perhaps instead of
looking up for UFOs,

we should be looking down.

that would be right
out of an alien movie.

Triangular-shaped UFO.

- It's called a USO, an
unidentified submersible object.

- I've just never seen
anything like this before

and the plume will
like, what is that?

our team of top experts
will investigate

reports of UFOs that lurk
deep down below our waters

and those that
hover just above it.

- They did try to communicate
with this aircraft,

but it never responded back.

- And there is no
sign of any kind

of like propulsion system on it.

It's a credible case.

It's a credible video.

- [Tony] And then,
we'll pass a verdict.

- This is something that has
the characteristics of a UAP.

This case is absolutely
the real deal.

- The proof starts now.

Good evening and welcome to
"The Proof is Out There."

We begin tonight with
a UFO over Puerto Rico.

Now, there have been countless
UFO sightings over the years,

but many experts
consider this next piece

of footage the gold standard.

Take a look for yourself.

It's just after dark
on August 25th, 2013

in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico.

The crew of a United States
Customs and Border Patrol plane

is taking off for
a routine mission

when they notice a
strange pinkish light

approaching from the northwest.

They turn on their
thermal imaging camera

to track the object and
this is what they see.

[intense music]

Let's take a closer look.

It appears to be
a metallic sphere,

moving fairly quickly
around the airport.

Then it heads out over the ocean

where it does something
truly unexpected.

Did you catch what happened?

Let's zoom in.

[intense music continues]

The object seems to
splash down in the water

before reemerging seconds later.

Even more bizarre,

the object then splits
into two separate craft.

And people, there is no
known Earth technology

that can do that.

After nearly four minutes, the
object disappears from view.

Now, Puerto Rico is the
location for several sightings

of so-called USOs,

unidentified submerged objects.

Back in the 1990s,

a navy helicopter pilot
allegedly saw an unidentified

dark underwater mass
during a training exercise.

Another published report
describes a similar incident

in 1963, during an
anti-submarine exercise

led by the USS Wasp.

- They keep talking about
these incidents occurring

around their aircraft carriers,
naval ships, Puerto Rico.

Long history of interesting
sighting, very long history.

- What makes this
video so special

is that it comes straight
from a million dollar

infrared camera mounted
on a government plane.

There's a ton of
data to analyze here.

So what do our experts think?

[dramatic music]

- [Richard] It's a credible
case, it's a credible video.

- [Tony] Richard Hoffman
heads the Scientific Coalition

for Unidentified
Aerial Phenomenon.

First question,
is the video real?

- The telemetry you
see on the screen

showing GPS location
identically matched

what you had with radar.

So, there really
was an aircraft.

- [Tony] Next, Hoffman's
team determines

the object's temperature
to help identify it.

They compare the heat
signature of the craft

to some cows on the ground

in this frame at the
top of your screen.

- We broke the video
into 256 shades

from white to black, all
different shades of gray.

And we were able
to match that up

with the temperature of the cows

to match the temperature

of the object.

The object was roughly

at about 104 degrees.

- [Tony] Right away, that

eliminates a jet engine,

which emits exhaust
15 times hotter.

- The thermal signature
doesn't match anything

that we know and there's
no sign of any kind

of like propulsion
system on this.

- [Tony] Then they figure
out the object's size,

using this frame when
the object goes behind

a light post two pixels wide.

- [Richard] Okay, well
the object went behind it

and was blanked out, so
about maybe it's two pixels.

And that's why we come up with,

it's about three to
five feet in diameter

- [Tony] Based on that analysis,

Hoffman says the most
likely earthly explanations

are eliminated.

- We ruled out that
it wasn't a balloon,

it was about 18-mile-an-hour
winds from the northeast

and this object was going in
opposite directions from that.

So, it's clearly not a balloon.

- [Tony] What about a drone?

Our aviation expert, Tim
McMillan, is skeptical.

- How are you achieving
flight without an airfoil,

without an angle
attack, without wings?

To simplify that, you know,
how are you doing that?

- [Tony] And finally, a bird?

- We took a look at
thermal signatures of birds

and various other objects

and it doesn't match
anything like this.

And there you go,
it's unidentified.

It's not from any place here.

[dramatic music]

- So is it proof or not?

Well, you might think
it's a bird, a balloon,

or a manmade aircraft,

but it is hard to
explain how this goes in

and out of the water and splits.

So folks, we're gonna
call this a UFO.

You almost never see
an object like this

going into and out of the water.

That's amazing.

With videos like this,

it's no wonder USOs, also
called submerged UAPs,

have come to the attention
of the US Congress.

In fact, in May, 2022,
members of Congress

pressed Pentagon officials
for more information on them.

- Do we have any
sensors underwater

to detect on submerged UAPs?

Anything that is in the
ocean or in the seas?

- So I think that would be
more appropriate addressed

in closed session, sir.

- It's not known
what was discussed at

that closed session,

but what is known is that
the Aguadilla incident

was just one UFO at sea
that was sited from the air.

[dramatic music]

We all keep our phones
safely stowed away

when driving, right?

Well, that rule doesn't apply
if you're flying on autopilot.

And lucky for us, one
pilot had his hands free

and his phone ready to
capture a one-of-a-kind video.

Prepare for takeoff.

[dramatic music]

February, 2020, an Airbus
A320 is on a routine flight

soaring over Medellin, Colombia.

On the pilot's final descent
over the Caribbean sea,

he sees something unusual
out of his cockpit window.

Little does the captain
know, he's about to find out

he's sharing the friendly skies.

- The pilot does us the favor
of showing his altimeter

and we can see that he's flying

around 30,000 feet in altitude.

- [Tony] The pilot then
points his camera phone

out of the cockpit window

and watch this as he zooms in.

[dramatic music continues]

A metallic looking object,
a polyhedron of some sort

whizzes by in a straight line.

We slow it down and
zoom in further,

you can see it kind
of looks like a cube.

Could this be a UFO at sea?

- It has these kind of
little points that stick out.

It does seem to
be darker in color

and not like a bright,
shining balloon.

Whatever this is, it
definitely shouldn't be there.

- [Tony] Now, it's hard to
judge this object's size

without knowing
how far away it is,

but scientist Amy
Eskridge estimates

it's 10 to 15 feet in diameter.

- One theory is that
if we were visited

by another civilization,

they might send probes ahead
of when they actually come.

- [Tony] And consider this.

A similar object was spotted
by an FA 18 fighter pilot

in 2018 at an altitude
of 35,000 feet.

It still hasn't been
identified and its structure,

unlike any known airframe,

lends credence to the
alien probe theory.

- They might wanna collect data,

maybe do a little surveillance,
a little monitoring

before they actually show up.

- In the US, we associate
Medellin, Colombia

with drug cartels.

But in South America, the city
is known for UFO sightings.

In fact, after UFOs were
spotted over a soccer stadium

at above a forest,

the city earned the
title The New Roswell.

So we're turning to our experts

to see if they can tell
us what's going on.

[mysterious music]

- I've analyzed several
videos in-depth of UFOs

and UAPs over the
course of my career

and the way that it's
traveling on screen

in the area of the clouds
does appear to be consistent

with recordings that I
have deemed authentic.

- [Tony] So while Primeau
can't find anything

technically wrong
with the video,

something just doesn't
look right to him.

- What caught my eye is
when the camera's panning up

to the skyline, the operator
instinctively zooms in,

almost like he's
expecting this object

as it's coming
towards the airplane.

This was peculiar to me.

So the feel of the video, upon
visual analysis, feels staged,

- [Tony] But Primeau
thinks it's possible

the pilot was just
plain lucky to zoom in

right as the object
flies past the plane.

MJ Banias agrees.

- Pilots are the people
who work in the sky

and operate in it, so they're
gonna have the best view

of any potential
UFOs around them.

- [Tony] We turn this video over

to our aviation
expert, Tim McMillan.

He thinks whatever was shot
over Medellin is too slow

to be any kind of
plane or missile

and it looks nothing
like a drone.

- Initially when
it starts coming,

I thought it's
probably a balloon.

- [Tony] Regular helium balloons

rarely make it to this altitude.

When they get this
high, the helium expands

and the balloon pops.

But solar balloons
are different.

Used as toys or for research,

they're usually made
from dark material

to absorb the sun's heat.

They rise as the air
inside warms and expands.

They've gone as
high as 46,000 feet,

but in general, when they
hit the cooler air up high,

they start to lose
shape and altitude.

It's just too cold for
them to stay aloft.

- It almost seems to have
an odd cube-like shape.

That is exactly what the Navy
pilots have reported seeing

off the East Coast
of the United States.

You know, currently
part of the unidentified

aerial phenomena that's
being investigated

by the Department of Defense.

I don't have a good explanation.

[dramatic music]

- So, assuming it's not a hoax,

it's certainly not a
drone or a known aircraft,

it's possibly a balloon.

I mean when you look at that
speed, your mind goes there,

but it's extremely rare
for a solar balloon

to reach this altitude.

By process of elimination,
we'll go with genuine UFO.

So humans might not be the
only pilots up in the sky.

- One of the big questions that
hangs over the UFO community

is the so-called Fermi paradox.

If there's so much potential

for intelligent life
in the universe,

why haven't we
heard from anybody?

Well, one explanation is that

the alien visitors
are like zoologists

trying to study rare
species in the wild.

They go to great
lengths to go unnoticed

so they can observe without
disturbing their subject.

But now that we've developed

high-tech
reconnaissance cameras,

it may be harder for
them to stay hidden,

which brings us
to our next video.

It's November, 2014

and a Chilean Navy
helicopter is on routine patrol

near the capital, Santiago.

The crew is testing out a
forward-looking infrared

or FLIR camera.

Something catches
the technician's eye.

And when he points his camera,
this is what he captures.

Two large overlapping orbs.

Check it out.

They're moving in unison.

Maybe they're even connected.

- So we see here, this
is done in infrared.

Everything that's
white is cooler

and everything that is
in black is much warmer

or hotter, giving
off a lot of heat.

- [Tony] Based on the
thermal camera's readout,

the object is hotter than
everything else in the frame.

And the navy crew says
the object speed

matches their own 130 knots.

Then look, the objects seem to
release a plume of some sort,

not once, but twice.

So what's going on off
the coast of Chile?

Is this a UFO at sea?

For forensic investigator,
Chase Kloetzke,

the plumes are an
intriguing site.

- I've just never seen
anything like this before

and the plume,
like, what is that?

It's so unusual.

Is it gas, is it vapor?

- [Tony] One thing
Kloetzke is certain about,

the video is not a hoax.

- This case is
absolutely the real deal.

Chile actually openly
investigates their UFOs.

So when the Chilean
government comes out and says,

this is something that
has the characteristics

of a UAP, you can
take it to the bank.

- [Tony] The Chilean
government studied this video

for two years before
releasing it to the public

and this UAP, or unidentified
aerial phenomenon,

didn't just look strange.

- We have reports
from the Chilean Navy

that this aircraft did not
appear on its radar system.

We also have a report that
they did try to communicate

with this aircraft, but
it never responded back,

which is a bit of a mystery.

- The Chilean camera could
switch between optical

and infrared settings.

For an unexplained reason,

the plume that shows up
as hot in the infrared

doesn't appear at all
in the optical viewer.

To cut through all
of these mysteries,

we turned the footage
over to our experts.

[mysterious music]

Tim McMillan considers
whether it might have been

a hostile craft trying to
sneak into Chilean airspace.

- Obviously, the
drone theory is one

that everyone has to examine.

This was filmed in 2014.

Drone technologies were
not nearly as advanced

as they are today, and
they weren't as frequent,

even with the
militaries of the world.

And so, there's not
really any shape

that would be consistent
with what you would expect

to see from a drone.

- [Tony] Balloons are also
mistaken for UFOs quite often.

So astronomer and video
effects designer Marc D'Antonio

looks at that possibility.

- Certainly, balloons
do go that high

and certainly balloons
do travel slowly,

but they generally don't
show hotspots like this.

I do not believe
this is a balloon.

- [Tony] The key could
be those strange plumes.

D'Antonio thinks
the object is moving

through pockets of moist air.

- I have watched
contrails start and stop

and make dashes in the sky.

I think this is a contrail
from a commercial jet.

Two hotspots, two trails.

- [Tony] Others think the plumes

could be a plane dumping fuel,

but wouldn't the
two-year investigation

have tracked that plane down?

And the object appears to
be headed toward Santiago,

a city of over 4 million people.

- Aircraft, when
they're in trouble,

will tend to go out to the ocean

to be able to dump their fuel.

And they do that in
unpopulated areas.

And if you look at the settings
on the west cam camera,

it was looking at an object
that was fairly straight ahead,

which means that the object
was equivalent to its altitude,

which puts it relatively low.

4,000 feet is nothing in
terms of its altitude.

- [Tony] Airplanes only
form contrails of ice

above 30,000 feet.

Hoffman sees why the
Chilean authorities

still view this
video as unexplained.

- The Chilean
video has an object

that has all the appearances
of being something

that we would think of
as being an aircraft,

but we just don't know for sure.

[dramatic music]

- There are still no
clear explanations

for why radar failed
to detect this object

or why the plume doesn't show
up in the optical viewer.

But it's worth pointing out

that the US Navy only
started seeing UAPs,

like the famous Tic-Tac,

when it installed its
Aegis radar systems,

which the Chileans didn't have.

So, no one can identify

what the Chilean
Navy caught on video.

So we're going to
call this a real UFO.

[dramatic music]

So far, we've been
investigating UFOs at sea,

but what about UFOs in lakes?

Most people take up
kayaking as a way to escape,

bask in nature and relax.

But just going with the flow
was not an option for the guys

who had this intense and
unusual aquatic encounter.

[mysterious music]

June 29th, 2017,

on Yale Lake in
southwest Washington,

two men take their kayaks out

for a relaxing afternoon
when the calm waters

are suddenly disturbed.

- [Kayaker 1] Weird [bleep].

- [Tony] The video seems
to show bubbles rising

to the surface of the water
in the center of the lake

as the kayakers
paddle towards them.

- [Kayaker 1] Just
bubbles coming from

the bottom of the lake.

No current.

[Kayaker 2] I'm afraid to
put my hand in the water.

- [Tony] One kayaker dips his
camera below the waterline

and we see debris in
thousands of bubbles swirling.

- [Kayaker 1] Weird though dude.

- [Tony] The bubbling
is so intense,

the other kayaker
panics and paddles off.

- [Kayaker 1] Go, go, go!

- [Tony] Then an ominous burst

of murky brown water erupts,

as hundreds of leaves are
belched up to the surface.

- [Kayaker 1] What the [bleep]?

What the [bleep] just happened?

- [Tony] Some speculated that
the disturbance in the lake

could have been a sign
of an underwater craft,

maybe even a USO.

- [Kayaker 1]
Something just happened

that we caught on camera.

Dude, it stinks!

- [Tony] As it turns out,

there are many USO
sightings in lakes,

but Ken Gerhard says this might
be a different kind of USO,

one that's alive.

- My first thoughts are,
is there something alive

beneath the water that's
creating these bubbles

and this disturbance
in the water?

Yale Lake is connected
to the Columbia River,

which has been said to be home

to this massive creature
called Colossal Claude.

Sightings date back
to the early 1930s.

The general physical
description is a huge animal,

about 40 feet long
with a serpentine,

although a very
thick, powerful body

and what was described as
a very evil snakey head.

Many of the lakes
around the world

where these monsters
have been reported

all boast healthy populations
of salmon and trout.

So perhaps these lake monsters
might also live in the ocean

and follow the salmon
populations into

fresh water to feed.

[dramatic music]

- There are dozens,
maybe thousands

of undiscovered creatures
inhabiting the world's lakes.

Recently, researchers uncovered

around 40 new species
in Lake Mweru,

located between Zambia and the
Democratic Republic of Congo.

But was whatever
these kayakers saw

a creature from the deep?

Let's see what's swimming in
our experts' thought bubbles.

[dramatic music]

Marine biologist, Dr. Shea
Conger begins her analysis

by addressing the
lake monster theory.

- The number of salmon
in the Columbia River

has dramatically decreased

and this is an important
resource, not only for humans,

but for wildlife.

So if there were some sort
of abnormally large animal

in Yale Lake, it probably
wouldn't have a lot of food

to live off of.

And so, it's pretty unlikely

that there are undiscovered
large animals in Yale Lake.

There are actually a couple

of freshwater seal
populations in the world,

but if this were something
like a seal or a whale,

we would definitely
see the animal itself

and seals really only
hold their breath

for maybe 20 minutes at a time.

- [Tony] What about
those bubbles?

Geologist Bob Anderson
helps us figure out

what could be happening here.

- Natural gas and oil are formed
between sedimentary layers

and you get a lot of
carboniferous materials

that are from the time
before the dinosaurs

and these areas get
buried deep down

and that pressure and heat
causes those organic materials

to break down into hydrocarbons.

And all it takes is
a crack in the rock

and they just release
and they pop real fast.

- [Tony] The
Carboniferous Period

occurred 300 million years ago,

so these organic materials
have been building pressure

for quite some time
just waiting to blow.

- When you look at the video

and you add in the
combination of those bubbles

[water gurgles]

and the smell at the end-

- [Kayaker 1] Dude, it stinks!

- [Bob] To me, it's a dead
clue that it's some type

of a natural gas
that's coming up.

- [Tony] This happens
all over the world.

Massive underwater craters
have been discovered

off the coast of Norway,
up to 147 feet deep

and 2,624 feet wide.

Researchers have
deemed that the cause

of expulsions of gas rising
to the surface in the area.

[dramatic music]

Our verdict, natural gas.

The smell was the clincher.

The kayaker complained
about the horrible aroma,

which is a common
attribute of methane gas

when it mixes with
hydrogen sulfide,

causing a rotten egg odor.

While the men didn't come
across Colossal Claude,

they did still stumble
upon a remarkable

piece of natural history.

- [Tony] October,
2021, Cozumel, Mexico.

While it's typically
sunshine and sandy beaches

that draw tourists
to island paradise,

a TikTok user who
goes by the handle,

DontStayAtHomeDad,
says he came here

after hearing rumors
that something strange

is lurking in the waters and
that's when he captured this.

- [DontStayAtHomeDad] Here
you can see at nighttime,

two lights that are moving
in sync with one another,

slowly drifting away from shore

and kind of spinning
in a slow circle.

- [Tony] Take another look.

As we zoom in and slow down,

we see a pair of glowing
circles in the water.

- [DontStayAtHomeDad] I don't
know how much more proof

I need to give people
to convince you

that there's something
suspicious going on

out there in the water.

- [Tony] The video
goes viral on TikTok,

amassing 350,000 views

and multiple theories
on what this is.

Journalist MJ Banias says,

the UFO community is fascinated

with phenomenon known as USOs.

- Where a UFO is an
unidentified flying object,

a USO is an unidentified
submersible object,

unknown vehicles that operate

under the surface of the water.

an underwater UFO.

- [Tony] Some are
convinced Mexico's

ancient Mayan civilization

may be connected to
unknown craft in the water.

- Various researchers online
do believe that the gods

of the Maya are connected
to the UFO phenomenon

or to aliens visiting Earth.

The Mayans believed that
to access the underworld,

for some divine reason,

one would have to travel
through le cenotes,

which was an underground
water-filled pit.

- Earlier, we
brought you the story

of the Aguadilla UFO,
an unidentified craft

which was seen to
submerge in the waters

off the coast of Puerto Rico,

but that was shot by a
high-grade military camera.

Did this dad's
consumer video gear

capture something similar?

Let's turn to our experts
for the deep dive.

[dramatic music]

We begin our examination

with forensic video
analyst Michael Primeau.

- Upon initial review
of the evidence,

minimal digital information
accompanies the file,

but the lights do
appear to be real.

There's no evidence
of overlaying

or anything within the macro
blocks that would suggest

that it's placed
within the recording.

- [Tony] So if what
we're seeing is real,

could it be secret
military technology?

According to Rich Hoffman at
the Center for UAP studies,

the video offers a clue.

- The fact that it was in close
proximity to the shoreline

to me would indicate that that's
probably relatively shallow

and they're relatively slow.

So I don't think that it's gonna
be anything like the secret

military type of situation.

- [Tony] Could these lights
be a natural phenomenon?

Bioluminescent sea life?

We take that question to marine
biologist, Dr. Shea Conger.

- Bioluminescence happens when
the chemical bonds are broken

and we call this an
exothermic reaction,

because energy is released

when chemical compounds
are broken down.

- [Tony] Approximately 75%
of creatures in the ocean

are capable of bioluminescence.

However, Conger notes
there's a catch.

- [Shea] Most
of these species

that would be bioluminescent
are actually deep sea animals

that live at extraordinarily
high pressures.

- [Tony] And while
bioluminescent algae can be seen

near beaches around the world,

it's often widespread and
doesn't typically form

such a distinct
circular pattern.

So where does that leave us?

Hoffman believes the
underwater attractions

of Cozumel itself are
key to the answer.

- I think that ultimately,
it's two people that are moving

through the water
with a flashlight.

People go scuba diving
at night all the time.

- [Tony] So we pressed
the anonymous dad

then he copped to it.

The post was a hoax,
classic clickbait

- I watched with my own eyes,

two human beings get loaded up
with all of their scuba gear

go underwater, turn
on their flashlights,

and then I started filming.

I'm trying to gather
information about the way humans

receive information and how
quick they are to believe it.

So when I saw this combination
of a foreign environment

with an odd visual, I
knew that in this moment

I had to put it right
on my TikTok channel.

I knew that it
was gonna blow up.

[dramatic music]

- So there you have it.

It's a hoax.

The dad says he's
compiling data about

how quickly people will
believe what they see online.

Okay, if you had any doubts
there's a lot of fake stuff

on the internet,
there's your proof.

- We've told you before
about Lake Superior

and its long history
of wicked storms,

shipwrecks and
anomalous sightings.

Well, add this to the list.

A close encounter between

a Great Lakes
freighter and a UFO.

June, 2019, Erik
Rintamaki is in search

of a unique rock called
Yooperlites that he discovered.

- [Erik] Whoa it's a big'un.

- [Tony] It can only be found
using a specific black light.

- I'm probably one
of the most famous

rock hounds in the world.

- [Tony] Suddenly, very
different glowing lights

in the air over the
lake catch his eye.

Let's push in.

It looks like two
objects are flying

perfectly in line
with each other,

or they could be two lights on
a large object we can't see.

- [Erik] This is
the craziest thing

I've ever seen in my life.

- [Tony] The lights make
no noise and watch this,

one passes directly over a ship.

- [Erik] It's a thousand-
foot iron ore freighter,

to give you some reference
on size of that video.

- [Tony] When Erik checks
in with the freighter,

they report that they
didn't see or hear anything

out of the ordinary.

Erik watches the orbs
for almost two hours

and then, they seem
to start watching him.

- [Erik] Yeah, it's
moving towards us,

like real fast
moving towards us.

- [Tony] Author Alexis
Brooks has heard of UFOs

trying to make a
connection with humans.

- This we see quite
often in UFO footage

where the light will
become more illuminated,

almost as if there's a
communication going on

between this object and the
individual that's watching it.

So this to me is extraordinary,
absolutely extraordinary.

- In a prior episode, we
discussed the sighting

of an alleged ghost
ship on Lake Superior.

That turned out to be a
mirage of a nearby island.

Is there some other optical
illusion at play here?

Let's check in with
our ace video analyst.

[dramatic music]

Regular viewers will
know Michael Primeau

as our video forensic analyst.

- I did not detect any
evidence to support

that this was added into
the video recording,

that this information was
created by computer imagery.

- [Tony] So the video is real,

but Primeau says the camera's
image quality is poor.

- We have a camera that's
essentially not recording

as accurately as we would expect

when you point it into the sky

and try to capture
this information.

- [Tony] Next, astronomer
and video effects designer,

Marc D'Antonio, examines
whether the orbs

could be something manmade.

- One keeps fading in and out.

We're not seeing
any blinking lights

that are mandated by the FAA,

so we know that
they're not aircraft.

It's not impossible that
they might be drones.

However, one thing to know
about drones is they actually

have their own set of lights

and an orange light is
not typically one of them.

- [Tony] And note that
Erik tracked these orbs

far longer than any consumer
grade drone can fly.

Aviation analyst Tim McMillan

wonders if it might be the
most obvious culprit of all.

- The planet Venus is very
commonly mistaken for UFOs

because at certain
times of the year

it can be extremely bright.

However, this object is giving
off kind of a orange-ish glow

and frankly, it appears
to be much larger

than even Venus at its
largest points would look.

- D'Antonio thinks the
object's orange glow

is the key evidence.

- To me, this object matches
a sky lantern profile.

It'll get a little dimmer and
brighter, dimmer and brighter,

and it'll start to flicker
and finally go out.

- [Tony] But what
could cause the objects

to seem to approach and
then retreat from the beach?

- Cellphone camera
footage is really hard,

especially at night when
you have a black sky

and a singular
point-like object,

and what will happen is the
camera will try to focus on it.

It's called focus
hunting or focus seeking.

And it will go big
and get bloated

and then shrink down again
as it tries to focus.

And somebody could mistake that

for an object racing toward
them and then racing away.

- [Tony] But just because
the camera can't hold focus

on the orbs doesn't
explain what they are.

And Erik and his clients
saw them for over two hours,

far longer than sky
lanterns can stay aloft.

- It is categorically a UFO,
in that it's unidentified.

- This was not a hoax.

And while it might
not be an alien craft,

it remains a genuine
unidentified object.

What's for certain is
that Erik Rintamaki

is still out there hunting
Yooperlite rocks

and now UFOs.

But is there proof it could
also be holding a species

not of this Earth?

One night in 2015, a
group of veteran fishermen

is out on a routine trip

when they come across
something they cannot explain.

A camera on board
captures a strange,

bright blue green
light glowing just

below the surface of the lake.

As you can see, when
the camera zooms out,

the light stays put
in the choppy waters

as the ship heads back to shore.

Locals have long believed
strange things are happening

below the surface here.

- Lake Baikal is a
hotbed of UFO activity.

So if there's beings coming
from a different planet,

we would expect
that they might want

to set up a base here on Earth.

So a place like Lake Baikal
could be a very good location.

- [Tony] Journalist
MJ Banias recalls

one reported
encounter in the lake

that lends credence
to this theory.

- There's a strange story

that comes out of
Lake Baikal in 1982.

Russian divers were
operating under the water

when all of a sudden,

they bumped into these
strange creatures.

According to the story,

these creatures were
wearing silvery suits.

They were humanoid
in appearance.

The divers were so
shocked by what they saw

that they tried to
quickly leave the area

and three died due to
coming up too quickly

from the depths of Lake Baikal.

- [Tony] This blue light
has never been seen again.

So who or what created it?

- There is undoubtedly
animal life down there

that has yet to be found.

Whether that animal
life is alien in nature,

that is still in the
realm of speculation.

- Two thirds of the 2,000
plant and animal species

living around Lake
Baikal can't be found

anywhere else in the world.

So it's already a unique place,

but does this video indicate

there are extraterrestrial
beings camping out there, too?

First, we have video forensic
analyst Michael Primeau

check whether the
light could have been

digitally inserted
in the footage.

- It doesn't appear to be CGI.

It doesn't look like something

that was added after the fact.

- [Tony] It's possible then

that we're just looking
at a search light

from another unseen
boat or an aircraft,

based on how light should
act on a lake such as this.

But physics
professor Michio Kaku

throws cold water on that idea.

- The surface ripples
in all directions.

Some of the light
would've been reflected

in different angles,

but we see no evidence of
an external light source.

- [Tony] An external
light source

would fan across
the water like this,

but we see nothing
like that here.

That also rules out the
reflection of the moon.

So if it's something
under the lake,

marine biologist
Shea Conger examines

if it could be coming from
a manmade underwater vessel.

- You wouldn't have
an artificial light on

during the night if you
wanted to study animals

in their natural environment.

So, it seems pretty unlikely

this is some sort of
a research vehicle.

- [Tony] It's well known that
bioluminescent marine life

glows at night,
but Conger doubts

that's what is
happening here either.

- We don't actually have
any bioluminescent animals

in Lake Baikal.

It's a freshwater body of water.

In addition, bioluminescent
animals tend to act

in kind of a flashy manner.

We would see a flash of light
and then it would dissipate.

This is a solid light source,

so I can actually
rule out the fact

that it might be
some type of animal.

I'd conclude that this is some
sort of underwater technology

that's really difficult to
understand or make sense of.

- Our verdict?

This is still an
unexplained phenomenon.

We can't say for
sure whether or not

it's from something
extraterrestrial.

But two years after
this incident,

a mysterious mass death
of seals in the lake

also baffled researchers.

So something fishy is
definitely happening.

We'll keep an eye on it.

- Spy satellites, stealth
fighters, the atomic bomb,

these were all once top
secret weapons programs.

Makes you wonder what
other secret technology

is the US military
working on now?

And could they be working with
allies from another planet?

According to one
foreign government,

this video proves it.

September, 2018, the
Mediterranean Sea.

An F18 is approaching the
deck of the carrier USS Ford.

It looks like a pinpoint
precise landing, but then.

[dramatic music]

- As it goes to touchdown,

we actually see a
triangular-shaped UFO,

like something that would be
right out of an alien movie.

And you're like, whoa!

Let's rewind that.

- [Tony] The object
definitely doesn't look like

any known military aircraft.

And the triangle shape,
that means something.

- Historically, UFOs have
been certain types of shapes.

You've got cigar UFOs, saucer
UFOs, and triangle UFOs.

So the fact that there
was a triangle UFO

on this aircraft carrier,

that really sent the UFO
community into a frenzy.

- [Tony] The USS Ford video
becomes more than clickbait.

It becomes international news.

The Iranian state
media declares it proof

that the US is plotting with
aliens to take over the world.

And even when this official
version of the video surfaces,

same plane, same ship, but no
UFO, people aren't convinced.

- Some are wondering, hmm,

is this original video
really the original video,

or did they edit out the
triangular-shaped UFO

to keep us from knowing

that they actually are
harboring alien spacecraft?

- The US military's
so-called black budget

for military research
and covert ops

is estimated at about
$50 billion a year.

Is this video proof of
your tax dollars at work?

Science writer and
forensic video analyst,

Mick West, notices
two things right away.

First, look at those shadows.

- [Mick] The sun's
rays are all parallel.

They're all the same angle,
like that helicopter angle.

But if we go to here,

it actually needs
to rotate to there.

So, they've put the
shadow at the wrong angle.

These all have an
angle like this

and these have an
angle like that.

- [Tony] Then he
stabilized the footage,

keeping the deck fixed.

- [Mick] We can see the
object kind of jiggles around.

Everything else is
staying nice and solid,

but this is doing a
little dance on the deck,

which is because they
haven't properly registered

the motion tracking with the
deck at a sub pixel level.

- [Tony] Oh, and
just one more thing.

- It looks, not just remarkably,

but identically
like a toy model kit

of what is called the TR-3E.

This particular
aircraft is identical

to the model that is for sale.

- McMillan says videos like
this aren't all fun and games.

When they get exploited
by hostile governments,

they sow mistrust and anger
towards the US military.

That's a common tactic
in information warfare.

So, our verdict?

Hoax and perhaps not
such a harmless hoax.

Well, from UFOs that can
travel in and out of the water

to alien crafts evading
radar detection,

we've explored some
remarkable incidents.

Now when it comes to USOs,
that's another story.

We've seen plenty of evidence

they are a very real phenomenon.

But with so much of our Earth's
surface covered by water,

you can't help but wonder,
how much are we missing?
