from the Japanese-held islands
in the Pacific.

in the Solomon Chain.

Japanese offensive
since the Battle of Midway,

strains the determination
of our fighting troops
to hold the Solomons,

and continue the drive
to recapture the Philippines.

Day and night,
death rains from the sky,

but to a man, our soldiers,
sailors and airmen,
