Hey guys, welcome back to my pixel lesson.
Today we're going to be using the truck
we drew from last time
and creating a couple different concepts from it.
You can also follow along with any object
you think would be interesting.
It can be the same object as last lesson
or something different.
It's totally up to you guys.
I want to train you to have the flexibility
to modify your own work
and create interesting variations from it.
Think of it
like making upgrades
like how cars can have modifications
or how weapons and equipment could be upgraded
to have more powerful effects
and what that, add different look to it
Best truck that I'm drawing is like a blank canvas
because it can have so many different functions,
Subtitled by -♪ online-courses.club ♪- We compress knowledge for you! https://t.me/joinchat/ailxpXoW3JVjYzQ1
which is oddly satisfying for me.
I came up with a list of ideas to transform this truck
and I'm going to do just four of these. Overgrown, Drift racer
survival and utility.
Those are just some really bright ideas
that I wanted to try out.
And I thought it'd be cool to put it on a truck.
All right,
let's get modifying.
So I'm going to duplicate the front view of the truck
that I made
and make 4 copies.
We're going to start off at the first one, overgrown.
I wanted to communicate
the feeling of an abandoned truck
that's really damaged.
And there's a lot of foliage growing out of it
like it's been forgotten for a long
long time.
I chose a cool
green color for the leaves
to match the rest of the truck
cool colors.
I imagine
a lot of greenery has fallen onto this truck.
So I add a bunch to any flat surface.
I only use like two, three, tones for the foliage.
it doesn't have to be that complex
to communicate the idea of it
I also added some vines that connect to the floor
and more grass on the ground
for a more natural-looking environment
and it's more of a set-piece
this way too
truck must have gotten rain on a lot to being outside
and all.
So I had a bunch of rust
on places that have edges
for more of a run-down feeling.
I also made the headlight broken
and maybe the engine is busted too.
And that's why it's abandoned.
It's all about telling a story with your work
and creating a really lived in world.
And with that we have our first concept done.
That was easy,
wasn't it? Next
we're going to do the Drift Racer concept.
So I was looking up what these trucks were used for
and obviously the most common use is to haul cargo
but I didn't know that people really
like modifying these types of trucks to drift.
It was so many cool variations already.
So I wanted to create my own body kit for the truck.
I was searching up a lot of aftermarket
modifications on drift cars
and they have like a lower body kit
with a bigger shell
so I wanted to incorporate it into this truck.
I'm over all aiming for a more aerodynamic shape.
I don't know if it actually makes it faster,
but it looks cool.
I start to put a couple more details
like Racing stickers on the door and windshield
and a racing stripe on the side
and I also added skyroof
for drivers that want a peek out
and say hi to the crowd.
For smaller things like that
I usually keep each detail on its own layer.
So I know what's what
so I named everything
and that I put it into its own group.
So I know like this folder is for details
only. A really good tool to keep handy
is the move tool.
If I have a lot of layers,
I use the move tool
and it lets you go to the layer of
what you just clicked
now, you won't have to search through each layer
to find what you're looking for.
We can just click on it directly.
Maybe it would be good to have a different color
truck to look more like a drift car.
I chose orange and a really easy way to change
the color is to use the magic wand tool
select the colors you want to change.
I merge my truck to one layer already
and I'm going to change
everything to Orange.
I'm going to start by using a dark
red for the shadows and work
my way up to Orange as the base tone.
Everything about the magic wand
tool in pixel art
is that it select everything. There's no straight pixels
like you
would get on a brush and it's just solid color.
So I have everything checked off up here
because I want to select all of one color.
You can have contiguous checked on
and it'll just like clusters of one single color.
Now that I changed it to Orange.
We're just about done this one, too.
So let's move on to the next one.
We're going to be making like a post-apocalyptic
zombie version of this truck
and I wanted to make it
look more heavy-duty with a bigger frame
reinforced bumper and bigger Wheels
to get over Terrain.
Coming up with your own Concepts
is probably the most rewarding thing ever.
And please don't hesitate
to use photos for reference either.
If you don't know how to draw something, that's okay.
We all start from somewhere.
I still don't know how to draw everything.
So I use photo reference all the time as well.
I watch so many zombie and post-apocalyptic shows.
So I was really excited to draw this one.
I want to add some more lights on top
so they can see better in the dark
and the frame can also support a machine gun
turret to mow down a zombies that they encounter.
I'm going to add this heavy duty machine
gun mounted on top of the truck.
I recommend looking at reference pictures of guns.
They get a good idea of how to draw one.
I know there can be a lot of details in the gun itself.
But remember
simplification is really key
is only a couple of main components
like the barrel body magazine
trigger and the stock.
This requires would have fuel
and supplies kept in the back of the truck as well.
Maybe they're coming back from a supply run.
or trading supplies with other people
So just some final details.
I add some dirt and mud to the frame
since this car probably hasn't been washed in a while
clearly for any small details.
I like to keep each item like gas canisters
crates and the gun on its own layer
so I can easily move it around.
And that's about finished for this one, too.
So now we're going to move onto our last concept.
We're going to work on a utility truck.
I want to have it
as sort of those maintenance vehicles
you see on the highway
for construction and direct traffic away.
So first,
I'm going to start off by adding a green tarp
on the back of the flatbed
and it'll help
keep all the supplies from flying away on the road.
I thought about adding a crate
or a storage attachment to it as well.
But I really like this shape.
So I stuck with this one.
I also put an electric road sign on the rooftop
where the arrows go and that'll help direct the traffic.
Adding some wires
connected to the truck
will make it more believable as well.
I was rearranging the size of the light box
a lot since I thought the lights individually
look way too big.
So I'm trying to find a size
that will fit 5 square lights
vertically, and afterwards
Subtitled by -♪ online-courses.club ♪- We compress knowledge for you! https://t.me/joinchat/ailxpXoW3JVjYzQ1
I set it to a darker color.
And it appears turned off
and I'm going to light it back up
in the shape of an arrow
so it can direct traffic.
Adding some traffic
cones will help convey the look of a maintenance truck.
I made a small little platform at their friend
for the traffic comes to go into
and a small caution label on the bumper.
I also added a caution siren on the roof.
So people nearby know when to be careful.
I also added a small logo on the door of the truck.
This maintenance truck
must work for some sort of company.
So I made one up, all these elements
that I'm adding are all visually suggestive
to what it actually is
you want to be able to look at something
and instantly know what it is.
And that's part of the fun and making stuff like this.
So with that we've completed this one as well.
I'm really happy with how these turned out.
And in this exercise.
I basically wanted to show you guys
how easy it is.
To modify change up the look of a single item
and this will be really useful
if you're coming up with game assets
and you want to customize and
add modifications.
Thank you so much for watching
and let me know if you guys have any questions.
I'm really looking forward to
see your creativity shine in this one.
Now that we cover the basics of pixel art
and started drawing some items together. In the next lesson,
we're going to be making backgrounds.
I'm really excited about this
since this is what I'm best at doing. So
take care
guys, and I'll see you in the next one.
