movie one of Hunter's clks is picking

him up in Copper City he'll be in

Seattle in a couple of weeks I offered

to fly him all the way down to Seattle

myself but Hunter says his boat's going

to be there anyway Hunter must have paid

you pretty good money for him I

understand none of the other teams even

when you're running your traps you must

be home by dark your mom and I were

worried sick son I found the

plane

Smiley he's

dead I thought the dog was dead

too the cage was thrown clear at first I

didn't even see it

so this is the famous

cavic oh son always should have put him

out of his misery I just

couldn't okay

okay let's try and get him the rest of

the way in maybe he'll live that long

let's get you home so your mom can stop

worrying about you

come on put out the fire

son there was a cougar trying to get at

him a cougar are you sure well it sure

looked like a cougar I never heard of a

cougar this far north

[Music]

Andy Kurt Andy where have you been I've

been so

worried Smiley did crash Laura Smiley's

dead and he came across the wreck is

this the dog he was carrying get him

over near the fire son he's still alive

alive easy easy okay let him down right

here easy

son oh that's

good what are you going to do with him

there's not much we can do just keep him

as warm as

possible Laura I've got to go down to

the caner and let the other Pilots know

they can call off the search for

Smiley then I'll radio George Hunter and

let him know we found his dog Dad yeah

what are you going to tell

him the facts

now I see

it the dog's almost dead son I'll have

to tell him

that I'll see you

later I should have put him out of his

misery

no no no I'm glad you brought him

[Music]

home you need something to eat no Mom

I'm not hungry Andy

please Mom do you have a blanket we can

put over him I understand Mr Hunter and

he h pretty bad huh yes sir well let me

know it's possible to

sa right okay

right I'll do what has to be

done yes sir over and out

I'm really not very hungry Mom it's all

right

honey did you tell Mr hunri found cavoc

yes well what did you tell him that

frankly I didn't think the dog had much

of a

chance what did he

say he said take the dog out and shoot

him but he might live dad he's lived

this long you know better than that

son leaving him like he is would be

cruel no George Hunter told me what to

do and he was

right what about Dr Walker Vick Walker

isn't a vet he's a doctor isn't he

precisely that's what he is he's a

doctor and he could make a diagnosis

well I'll go over and see now wait a

minute Andy now if he says no that means

no I really find it amazing that that

dog is still alive don't you

there who that oh

Andy could you come to the house right

away what right away it's urgent is it

accident come on who is it who's H is it

your dad he's with mom your mom what is

it Laura come on come

on you can tell me about it on the

[Music]

way you dragged me out here to look at a

dog a a dog you let me think your mother

was sick Andy I didn't mean to I just

said you just let me jump to a

conclusion is what you just look now

that you're here won't you just take a

look at the

dog I'll look at him but that's it just

that just look at

him could a good vet bring him through

where' you propose to find one I don't

know look you want my advice that dog

should be put down

no please Vick won't you

try

please I'll pay

you I've got trapping money saved up

enough to pay

you if I don't have enough I'll work for

you to pay the rest

oh get hold of the other end of the

blanket we're going the back way through

the woods I don't want anybody seeing

this I don't want anybody hearing about

it either my lips are sealed don't

sake they hear about this finish as a

doctor that's for

sure come on C let me get at him yeah

everybody

out I mean it out all right come on Andy

Dad could I stay please well if you

don't get in my way too much I suppose

you can wait a minute Vic there's one

thing's got to be

said now

Andy Vic is going to do everything he

can for the dog but if he decides

nothing can help

cavic there's no

hope then he'll have to put him to

sleep I understand

Dad it's important that you do

[Music]

son I understand

sir that's the way it is Andy

Andy I'll leave your supper on the stove

Vic thank you well don't thank me yet in

fact don't bother to thank me at all

just go and leave me to get on with it

will you Victor good night yeah good

night wish I could say it have been a

pleasure oh this dog is a

mess you could start by taking your

boots off and not tracking all this mess

in here Andy yes sir

looks all

right gently doesn't

well I guess what he needs now is

sleep so do you son go on home go on yes

sir good morning

Andy that's a dog

uhhuh dog is pretty sick mom could you

come here a second I'm

coming I'll put some coffee on oh

scared you don't have to be afraid

honey but he might

die mom

I really care for

him there's nothing wrong with caring

[Music]

Andy now you get some sleep

please Mom if you hear from Dr Walker

wake me up I will promise

[Music]

he's pretty scared he'll be all right

Laura even if the dog dies whatever

happens and you'll be

fine you're right

[Music]

thought in case something had happened

to cat no I haven't heard a word from

Doctor Walker hi

Honey hi there okay guys want to clean

up then is's ready I'm hungry sure wish

I could go over there right now Vick

doesn't want you there during office

hours son and if that's what he wants

and you have to obey his wish that's

right MC Walker does things the way he

chooses I'll just go up and watch

I'll go over after supper uh not until

7:30 won't yes

Mom yeah Walker what's happening now

hello Vick uh Kurt ev's here can you

spare a moment moment

sure uh it's about the

dog Andy's already gotten awfully

attached to it I was just wondering what

do you really think his chances are well

they're no better than

50/50 50/50 huh sorry KT I can't tell

you anything better well thanks I

appreciate that

how is he oh why don't you come in Andy

cavic he hasn't been awake enough for me

to ask him which I might have done have

you been a human patient here do you

want some Coco what Coco now you've

heard of Coco haven't you as your mother

deprived you all these years I've heard

of it I mean yes thank you I'd like some

well so would I so why don't you put

some milk in the pan and shove it on the

stove and keep your eye on it

huh you hate it when he gets that that

slippery skin in it all gets in your

beard miss m clean it out yes

[Music]

sir is he really

better well he's not exactly dancing is

he still I think he's turned the corner

oh still you silly creature he's trying

to help

[Music]

you now I think he should take him about

a a day for his system to realize that

it's not getting its food directly

anymore by tomorrow night I think he

should be ready for a little solid

[Music]

food all right Andy let's see if we

can't find cavic something to

eat which one of these do you like

how about this one here this guy

here all right what shall we give him a

steak or maybe a piece of tail with some

meat to chew on Dr Walker said he might

not be able to chew very well all right

then we'll give him some

steak get off there

okay here we

go one Stak coming

up come on put it on the floor I doubt

he'll take food from

anyone you don't have to be afraid of me

cavoc I'm not going to hurt you he's not

afraid of you

me up see if we can help them

man uh I don't how many days I'm going

to be look you'd

uh get your father and uh take cavy back

to your place huh what do we do nothing

I hope what he really needs now is sleep

and food and water I'll be back in a few

days I'll stop by and not a word to

anyone about where he got his doctoring

you're a big one aren't you I heard you

had him I wondered if we were ever going

to get to see him or not

well he was awfully sick what's his name

again kevic he sure looks like a winner

can understand why George Hunter bought

him I can too well I better be getting

back to work myself Andy see you

tomorrow bye hi Adora how you doing come

on

Kevin

Andy what's

that where did you find him out in one

of your trap lines he was in a plane

wreck ah hunter's dog hunters dog is the

one that won the big race up by

to oh not the Championships not the

Championships no the earlier race you

know the one they arranged uh

together so this was in Smiley's crash

huh I didn't think the dog made it

though it's got some kind of Eskimo name

right cavic cavic it means Wolverine

Wolverine doesn't look like a wolverine

to me you know what a wolverine looks

like though Andy it's a small little

animal with big teeth you know they're

ferocious they're terrible that's the

wrong name for him too who named it I

don't know oh he's big I know he's big

he's probably got wolf in him he's

probably got wolf wolfing him right Andy

I guess yeah what

[Music]

the I'm seeing it but I don't believe

him wa

[Applause]

[Laughter]

Andy The Wolverine sced off that

[Music]

way why you believe

that you better change his name even old

rags got a piece of them come back here

rabbit would be more like it rabbit's no

good good rabbit kill the

m i don't really mind is being a coward

but

he even ran away from Rags he's five

times as big and he ran Andy you're

being awfully hard on him he ran like he

was scared to

[Music]

death Andy come

here come here

son sit down here I want to talk to

you you'll be hearing talk one of these

days and I rather you heard it from from

me what kind of talk about me not

wanting to go back to fishing fishing

boats cost lots of money no that's not

the real reason there were people

willing to finance me even George Hunter

he offered me the shinuk

maid no it's something

else when we lost our old

boat something happened to me oh I'd

been in wrecks before but

when Freedom went

down when she sank

it and I I just sort of lost confidence

in myself I knew I should get up and try

again but I just

couldn't but maybe it would never happen

again I know that

here but in

here in here I'm scared

Dad I'm not ashamed of it

[Music]

son a man can just take so much of a

beating

and and he's

whipped is that what the crash did to

Cav

[Music]

you remember don't you

come on

C hi son how you doing good where you

been well I've been up at the the air

trip uh these two surveyors just flew in

I had to pick them up surveyors come on

Evans let's go yeah they're doing some

work in for Mr Hunter does that mean Mr

Hunter will be coming too I don't

know maybe he won't come maybe he won't

come at all this year well he'll be here

eventually Andy now we'll deal with that

when the time comes all right okay okay

H how'd trapping go it was okay okay

I'll see you bye dad

Cav okay now I got to go to

school

okay Mr n hi pinky how you doing in the

pink come here that's quite the dog

young Andy

found yeah it is not the kind of dog I'd

run around with you know I think cavic

suits Andy just fine I'm curious Kurt

you know it seems to me a dad would want

to give his son a real dog you know not

a Chevy little coward you

know K suits me just fine too

py just the way he is I'm just asking

Kurt I'm just

asking I know pigy I'll see yeah we'll

see

you like father like son I always say

Lloyd that's just about it

[Music]

y what does that tell Will you like

Andy Laura

a word I said he says nobody's going to

pull the wool over George go son they

left on the Copper Queen 10 minutes ago

Andy Andy there's nothing you can do

built please see he doesn't get into the

flower beds act just had them tilled and

there to be seeded

shortly anybody home hi Honey hi hi

Dad oh oh yeah little grungy just a

little

Dad yeah is it okay if I read a letter

to Mr

Hunter well yeah I guess so but uh

wouldn't you rather remember the dog as

he was with us I mean cic's a part of Mr

hunter's life now well I don't think

writing a letter is going to hurt I just

want to find out how he is and tell him

how I am some things are best left in

the past it's just a letter dad

Andy go ahead write the

letter what's wrong with

dad daddy misses cavic

[Music]

too

Ma what's wrong with him ma he's not

eating and well you know Northern dogs

is it maybe a change of climate or is

something else wrong with them

[Music]

[Music]

he's

homesick Lonesome

too needs

exercise I'm exercise him

Mac do what has to be done

down here rubber boots and the rain

Slicker and the sester hat not something

star of the Sportsman's dinner at the

Country

Club what if he pulled another stunt

like that or they'd laugh me out of town

won't ask any

questions maybe you're right ma we'll

give him a look just a

look this is a fine dog Mr

Hunter he won't let you down he'll give

Andy Laura look here's a picture of

cavoc in the Seattle paper what does it

say well let's see it says uh cavic

Champion sled dog owned by saddle

industrial George C Hunter leaped

through a glass window last night during

a special program being held at North

River Country Club the animal lead dog

of the winning team of the select dog

races in Alaska is one of the kind a

search was made for the premises of the

premises but no trace of the animal was

found police have been notified to be on

the lookout for a dog which answers to

the name of

cavic no reward has been offered well no

wonder we never heard from them

[Music]

[Music]

on

for for

[Music]

[Music]

it's a

wolf did you get him

I think I winged him did you are you

sure Phil Phil what happened mind your

own business ah the heck what's wrong

with

[Music]

him for

[Music]

[Music]

[Music]

oh

[Music]

[Music]

one more and that does

it I'll get it I'll do it we're just

about finished anyway are you sure yeah

you better go inside there and get your

books be getting home it's getting late

okay see you tomorrow

[Music]

oh

[Music]

cavic oh

cavoc it is you oh

K it's incredible but maybe he did make

it from Seattle he's taken a terrible

beating yeah that's as I feared he's

he's wrenched

well I guess I'm going to have to put

him under and then snap the hip back

into the socket and put a splints on it

and a bandage and then four or five days

he'll be

chipper some terrible fights haven't you

boy cavic fights oh yeah Kur some real

bad ones you don't get scarred like this

and survive unless you got real guts you

know oh all right all

right he's an amazing

dog bck m

do you really think he can make it 2,000

mil up here alone oh I don't know look

at him I mean you don't get scars and

scratches like that from being flown up

by Bush pilot do

you Dr Walker mhm thanks an awful lot

for fixing him up that's all right Andy

I'll pay tomorrow oh yeah well uh

splints and the shot and bandid that's

uh it's going to cost you a dollar come

on Vic you'll never get rich that way if

I was wanting to get rich I look in

Fairbanks or Anchorage and telling lies

and wearing stiff shoes come on Carrie

get out of

there any case this dog's well he's

deserved all the help he gets what are

you going to do when Hunter comes back

in a couple of

weeks oh I hadn't even thought about

that well I suggest you do get something

worked out I don't fancy patching up

cavic like this once a year this thing's

got to be settled Kurt one way or the

other but it's got to be settled it will

George Hunter is never going to break

that boy's heart again I can promise you

that not as long as I can help

[Music]

it all right Evans I agree he's a cow

card but nobody's going to tell me that

dog walked 2,000 Mi just to be with your

boy I want to know who brought him up

here for you nobody cavic did it himself

he took a terrible beating getting here

too worse than anything those muts in

town ever did to 2,000 miles I couldn't

believe it either well the mountain

range alone is more than any of us i'

want to fool with there he is take a

look for

yourself cab

well I'll be darn he made it all right

what's left of him you want him for your

boy we'll have to make a deal I see I

paid about $5,000

for that's awful lot of money Mr Hunter

that's what I

[Music]

paid I've got some trapping money saved

up

Dad Mr Hunter I don't Grudge you the

$5,000

but cavic isn't worth that now you

wouldn't pay that for cavic now

no I wouldn't I wouldn't

pay name of

price maybe we could afford

$250

$250 that sounds

FY wouldn't make a house dog

now

$250 all right Evans you got yourself up

a heck of a

bargain Mr

Hunter I'd just like to say thank you

you

[Music]

[Music]

should there you go Andy I thought Mr

Hunter was never going to send this well

legal papers take time to prepare son

but it was worth the wait wasn't it sure

was look there's your mom mom look what

I

got coc's mine now he's really

mine well it looks like we got ourselves

a dog I'm glad

Kev oh hi Kev come here where are you

[Music]

[Music]

[Music]

[Music]

he's doing it

he's standing up for

[Music]

himself holy

[Music]

m i don't believe this he could have

killed him but he didn't kill him

[Music]

oh

Evans

[Applause]

Evans you'll put one over on me Evans

you knew that dog was

okay are you calling me a liar Mr Hunter

$250 for a dog like that is more than

sharp dealing you know it now and you

knew it then now you're calling me a

cheat I can get that dog back you know

any Cod of law any judge you want to

take it to court you go right ahead I'll

fight you wherever you take it I'll
