the biggest cause of road accidents
is distracted drivers.

There's not much
to distract the eye here,

except, of course,

that adds a whole load of misery
to a cold, grey day.

This couple get bashed
by a morning drunk driver,

who ploughs into their back side,

destroying
what little shopping they had done.

"Great, so let's add new car
to the bottom of the list."

Watching motorcycles speeding

can bring
a bit of nausea to the mouth,

as you anticipate
what might and could happen,

like driving 200kph.

What are you thinking?!

And here comes
his even more stupid friend

going even faster with
even less protective clothing on.

As his buddy slows down for a turn,

it all gets a bit gravelly.

(TYRES SCREECH)

Strewth!

Who's too cool
for a leather jacket now?

Barefoot strangers
appear out of nowhere to help.

This is either the beginning
of his hero-origin story

or it's a prelude
to an obituary.

Funny how those intersect.

he's lost the ability to speak.

Let's take you to hospital, man.

The crash
leaves the silly dingo in shock

Driving at night can be scary.

There's always plenty to navigate,
like poor visibility...

where you know
you're going to have to give way...

..or the glare of headlights
that reveal unexpected surprises.

(HIGH-PITCHED SCREAM)

You think you know the roads by day,
but once the lights are out

they can play host
to every imaginable danger.

WOMAN: Mm-mm. No.

Mm-mm.

Thought you were too old
to be afraid of the dark?

Mm-mm. Uh-uh.
I'm running this red light. No. No!

I'm not doing... No. NO!

Think again.

It's already looking bad
for this driver,

whose cracked windscreen adds
to the hazards of driving at night,

making the road look like
a not-so-fun house of mirrors.

And here comes the trouble.

(SWISHING)

Phew-wee!

A close shave,
but not for the vehicle ahead

who is blinded by the lorry's lights

and fails to spot
a truck full of timber.

At least if he's stranded overnight,
there's plenty of firewood.

(TYRE SCREECHES)

Well-lit motorways
can be just as dangerous

if you're not paying attention.

(GLASS SHATTERS)

And late decisions
can have terrible consequences.

This dozy driver attempts
to make a last-second lane change,

only to hit the big prize
of door number two.

Congratulations, you've just won

a front-end collision
with a concrete barrier!

(TYRE SCREECHES)

You know what else you might
experience on the late-night roads?

Pesky animals.

Some are cute, like this baby deer.

Look out!

Confused by the bright lights,

our little fawn
heads straight for the car.

Not a very bright Bambi.

Thankfully, Bambi is OK,

and the driver is able to carry
the dazed and confused fella

back to his mum.

Phew!

(TYRE SCREECHES)

Other animals on the road
are even less intelligent,

like teenagers.

This motorcyclist is doing
a good clip down the road,

when suddenly
something appears out of nowhere.

(ENGINE GRINDING)

It's a teen, on a bike,
in the middle of the road, at night,

with no lights on.

The rider quickly turns around
to see if he's OK,

and now there's another person
with him AND a dog.

Wait, were they all on the bike?

No. Phew!

It all seems like a rather weird
and random night for this driver.

Even the dog is like,
"You'd best head home, bud.

These two are a piece of work."

(DOG BARKS)
You alright?

What's scarier
than teens on the road?

A ghost bike on the road.
(SPOOKY MUSIC)

Ooooooh!

That's one drunk ghost,

as it weaves back and forth
before finally passing out...

..and finally laid to rest.

As we've seen earlier,
when driving at night

you need to be
fully focused on the road ahead,

as things can come at you
quickly in the dark.

Whether it's animals, kids, ghosts

or even badly signposted
construction work.

(BANG)
(TYRES SCREECH)

Ouch!

These cars
plough into a deconstructed road

with no formal warning,

taking their night
to an even darker place.

Maybe the construction workers were
so embarrassed by such a poor job

they didn't want anyone to notice.

As the dashcam driver
makes his way through the rubble

and the dust settles, the full
extent of the carnage unravels.

Thankfully,
nobody is seriously hurt.

Oh, wait, there's a tiny
warning sign further down the road.

When you're asleep at night, do you
ever dream of going to the toilet

only to wake up
and discover you didn't make it?

This driver
will wish it's just a dream

as popping out for a pee
turns into the nightmare

of falling from a bridge.

Miraculously, he hit
a few branches on the way down

and ended up
with just a fractured leg.

But a lesson learned -

always take a torch with you.

Driving at night isn't always
the stuff of nightmares.

If you're super lucky, you might
even witness something spectacular

that will light up
your journey home.

This driver in Turkey
captures a meteorite

burning through
the Earth's atmosphere,

turning the sky emerald in colour.

200 kilometres away,

a young child turns away
at precisely the wrong moment.

Never mind, at that age,
a balloon with flashing lights

is so much more exciting.

for an empty, clear road.

So, when the Tarmac's slippery,
drive defensively and slow down.

You really wouldn't want
to deal with the aftermath.

who sets off from the hard shoulder
on a very damp day.

But maybe
it won't dampen his spirit,

as he soldiers on through the wet.

to help retrieve him from the ditch,

but we never quite
get to see the outcome.

with the flood water.

has a little snowman ornament,

which is maybe good luck.

But the good news is
the snowman is OK.

The bad news? It's cursed.

one rain day per month,

drivers in Palm Springs, California,

are more used
to sunnier, drier conditions.

Today is that one day.

Slow down. Don't speed.

Simple, right?

And now a new word
to add to your vocabulary.

the worst place to accidentally park

or just karma giving you
a little tap on the shoulder.

Either way, it's clean,

and you could probably open
the back flap

and empty it out
once you've had a bath.

it's time to head back
to the nighttime San Diego highway,

where earlier in the show

we asked you to take a guess
at what happens next.

parked precariously on the road.

That was a very lucky escape.

The driver is able to avert
running over the truck driver,

who takes a nasty stumble
into the line of fire.

out-of-control lorries

and even falling powerlines.

It's a close call,
as the turning bus

takes out
the electrics and traffic light.

A lucky escape
for the moped riders...

..but not so lucky for anyone

relying on the internet
to work from home.

One thing is certain -

this town
needs a decent electrician.

Driving scenic roads
is a great way of relaxing -

that is, until you encounter
idiots like this.

A close call
as the caravan-hauling driver

attempts to pass an even bigger
truck on double-yellow lines.

The driver is not only able
to thread the needle to safety

but also fill his drawers
in the process.

Overpasses are conduits for trouble,

as drivers attempt to reach highway
speeds as they round the corners.

(BANG)

This moped rider
attempts his very own rib slide,

narrowly avoiding a 50-foot shortcut
to the big lane highway below.

(REVVING)
As the bike heads off in disgust,

the not-so-lucky dashcam driver
takes a shunt in the rear.

(THUD)
Doh!

One of the worst places
to experience a close call

is at a railway crossing

because of the obvious threat
of death by train.

That doesn't deter some fools,

who are hellbent
on reaching their destination,

no matter the cost.

This SUV is in a pickle,
and he knows it,

as he tries to manoeuvre away
from being turned into a gherkin.

With the train fast approaching,

a guardian angel
rushes to the rescue.

Now move, mister!

Wow, a very close call -

and not even a wave of gratitude
for the guard who saved you.

are yet to learn their lesson

when it comes to illegal parking.

for some finger-licking indulgence,

only to forget how to park.

he bangs around his little bucket
into the other two cars,

while attempting

Not sure what kind of herbs
and spices the driver might be on,

Finding a clamp on your car

can be a real bummer of a way
to start your day.

You can either
pay a ridiculous fine,

drive off and ruin your car for life

Freeing your vehicle
from a wheel clamp is not illegal,

although you do run the risk
of damaging your vehicle.

Given the price
of an uninsured hospital visit,

he chooses
the most expensive option,

in pink-hooded determination.

in front of her,

she's behind the wheel of a car
AND breaking the law.

Ignoring the obvious knocks,

she's too in the zone
to worry about her surroundings.

As the light turns green,
the biker heads off,

leaving Granny sat in her Jeep still
browsing for knitting patterns.

Moment later, and
Grandma smashes the biscuit tin

by cutting off the motorcyclist

and knitting her way to
an angry tweet to herself later.

It's not a grandma -

it's a Karen in disguise!

The biker decides enough is enough,

and stops to give Nana a lecture
she'd be wise not to ignore.

I got it all on camera.
You on the phone,

you cutting me up, everything.

It's all recorded right now
and going to the police.

I'll follow you
wherever you want to go.

Alright, let's go.

But the only thing
she's going to do is drive on.

And off she goes.

And proof that grannies
spend as much time on their phones

as teenagers.

delivers a cold message of rebuke

it turns into a bit of a...

as they banter the legality.

DAVE: Is stopping deliberately
to try and make me crash

into the back of you
appropriate behaviour?

(POSH VOICE) There's a hump
in the road, so I had to slow down.

You'd already slowed down.
Why did you suddenly break?

Because there's
a hump in the road to slow down.

I slowed down to go in here.

Is it good practice
to abide by the law

of not using your phone
while driving?Yes.

Somebody's full of bravado,

This driver obviously thinks
HE has the law on his side.

It wouldn't be a problem
if drivers like you

didn't use their phones
while they're driving.

I wasn't using the phone
when I went over the hump.

Turns out he does...

as Posh Man is a court judge,
who really should know better.

The judge ended up on
the wrong side of the law, though,

once reported to the police,

and was forced to complete
mandatory driving training.

Let's hope he had to cycle to class.

cops-and-robbers chase.

Don't worry,
the barrier did not go unavenged.

The getaway driver
was later caught and charged

for drug possession
and disturbing the crickets.

Here's a tip... if you find yourself

being pulled over
by a police officer,

the worst thing you can do is
try and make a quick escape.

(REVVING)

If you do,
then at least make it funny,

so we can laugh
when watching the show.

Because - spoiler alert -

they'll ALWAYS find you...

(SIRENS WAILING)

This little boy
and his passenger buddy

have taken Daddy's toy
for a joy ride.

And we're not
talking about his secretary.

(TENSE ELECTRONIC MUSIC)

Stopped by the police, this tiny tot
says no to the flashlight...

..and runs away with Daddy's chrome,
like a dog with a chicken bone.

As the officer
gets back in his vehicle,

up ahead his colleague
- with sixth sense -

anticipates this might happen
and gets out the spikes.

OFFICER: Stop!

I've got a spike strip.
I've got a spike strip.

(SIRENS WAILING)
Stop! Stop!

He's been spiked. He's been spiked.
He's been spiked.

Yup - sounds like he's been spiked.

And now it's only a matter of time
before...

(CRASH)

(GLASS SHATTERS)

And there he goes!

Riding the wheel rims does the job,

and the car takes a tumble.

Too easy.

With the driver happy to submit
to the gun-welding officer

- good move - the true reason
for running away becomes apparent.

So you all ran because of the weed?

I mean, I thought
we were just gonna ticket you.

And now you've just won
a whole load more charges

and wrecked the car.

Daddy won't be happy.

(TYRE SCREECHES)

Bandit on the run!

It's a foot chase
between this suspect

and a clearly out-of-shape
police officer.

That's a lot of gear - and wearing
the colour black in the hot sun

doesn't help. What DOES help

is being given a sneaky ride
on the back of this pickup.

Oh, (BLEEP)! Oh, (BLEEP)!
Oh, (BLEEP)! Oh, (BLEEP)!

Clever thinking. Only in America!

Well, Florida to be more specific.

And the suspect
is heading off into the ravine,

so if the gators don't get him,
the Florida Man will.

(FAKE TERROR) "Oh, my God, no way!"

(TYRE SCREECHES)

(CHEERY MUSIC)

Now to a clip which is
more like a movie in real life,

as you are witnessing
a prison break in Thailand.

The man driving
is a Japanese prisoner,

who busts loose
having stolen a police van.

From another angle, we can see other
guards rally to buttress his escape.

(CHEERY MUSIC)

The prisoner was eventually caught

and sentenced to a three-year
retelling of his life to Netflix.

(CAR PURRS)

and march him back to his colleague.

As they focus on
trolleying him off to justice,

his passenger stumbles out,
perhaps needing medical assistance.

If only there was some sort
of emergency personnel on hand.

And wait, there's another.

Any more in there to declare?

It raises so many questions.

Who was this mystery man?

Who were these women?

Would he be up
for co-starring in a Netflix series

with a Japanese escapee?

(SHUTTER WHIRS)

Keeping it in the family.

(JOLLY MUSIC)

There's nothing better
than spending time with your family,

apparently.

But too much time
can lead to boredom

and the desire to entertain oneself
at their expense.

(LAUGHTER)

And who better to prank
than the people you love the most -

even if Dad doesn't
appreciate your silly humour!

(HORN HOOTS)

(LAUGHTER)

So let's end the show

Give us a child who hates
an awkward social situation,

and we'll give you a dad
willing to make the most out of it.

Goofy father here loves to embarrass
his daughters with daily pranks.

And what's more embarrassing
than continual humiliation

in front of their school friends?

(CHILD WHIMPERS)

Dad even has a variation on a theme
for each day of the week.

Seriously, coming home from school
should be a joyous occasion.

They'll hate you now,
but in years to come

hate you more for
the long-term psychological damage.
