Welcome to this lesson.

Now, another topic that I wanted to go through before we concluded the section was the ability to be

able to use your own custom visualizations within Power BI.

So we've got quite a developer network out there who are creating their own visualizations, and you

may well find that some of these visualizations are useful and want to bring them into Power BI.

What I'm going to do first though is I'm just going to set my theme back to my default and go back to

my sales report.

And hopefully here we'll be back to our normal theme.

Now, what we're going to do here is we're going to add a new custom visualization here.

And we're going to we're going to use something called the bullet slicer.

So basically, we've got our slicer at the moment showing a region.

But let's say, for example, that I wanted to show a list of all my countries.

Now I've got quite a lot of countries, and maybe what I want to do is create a slicer that is kind

of like an Excel slicer.

So if you've ever used Excel and you've used the slicer, what you can have is you can actually have

multiple columns and you can then actually have that showing in the columns.

So the chick lit slicer is actually quite a good visualization for showing that.

So I want to add this custom visualization into this power bar report.

And the way that I do that is I actually go into my insert and you'll see that there is an option then

to be able to insert your own custom visualizations.

So we move across here, you'll see that you got your visuals, more visuals, and you'll see that there's

options, that you can get it from the app source or from your own files.

So again, like the themes, it is possible to download some of these files as files that can be uploaded,

but normally it's better to actually go to the app source.

So we're going to select that.

So the pub visual app source is now opened and what you can see is the a large amount of different visuals

that you can actually include into your power by now.

If you were going through this, you'll find that you probably need to look at quite a few different

visuals to get an idea of what they're about.

So if we select one, let's say for example, we select this dial gauge, you click on it and basically

what it will do is it will give you a bit of a preview of what the visual is about.

So I'll give you an explanation telling you what the visuals are.

But also you can see the pricing thread, where it's come from, who's who's done it as well.

What is really nice as well is that you do get certified ones which help you be able to to sort of understand

which ones are quite good and which ones aren't.

Now please note as standard, normally these visuals will work with your current slices, with your

filtering, and they will just easily be brought into this.

So that's really what you do.

You just go through this and you can pick the ones that you want.

You also do get your filters.

So if you want to use some of these filters to be able to find what you're looking for, then you can

use those filters.

However, I have seen the one that I am looking for, and that is the chick lit slicer.

So basically you'll see that you get the chick lit slicer and it gives you an explanation.

And you can see what I can do now is just add it into my beyond.

And that's really what I'm going to do.

I'm going to add this in.

And what it does is it tells me it's imported successfully, which is always good.

Basically, it's now added it as a visual into underneath here.

So you can see you got your traditional list of visualizations we've been working with, but now we've

got the checklist slicer that's been added.

Okay.

I'm going to have quite a bit of data yet, so I'm actually going to use the bottom of this screen to

display it.

Let's let's keep that nice and open.

Now, as I said, what I want to do is I want to be able to create a slicer that is now got all of my

countries in it.

And you see that I can add my categories.

Now, this does give you the ability to work with values and images, but in this case, I'm keeping

it just to the actual countries themselves, going to keep it simple.

So what you can see straight away now is I have my different countries and they've now been displayed.

So if I pick one of these, you can see straight away now that it actually now starts to filter and

you can see that it works like an Excel slicer as you select them and adds it on to the existing list.

To unselect something, you just click it again.

So if I've got Armenia and I've got Italy, I can select Italy just enough.

Or I could take our menu often just select Italy by itself.

It's a pretty easy to use.

But you'll also notice is that you do get your ability to format these as well.

And within the general and within the visual.

So if you want to change the way that this is viewed, you'll see that you do get a different orientation.

I'm actually going to add a see if I can actually give five columns in this.

There we go.

It's not too bad.

But a little bit more height than I could actually see all of the countries.

But I suppose an option is I can make a bit wider and make it six columns.

And there we go.

It's actually now show me all my countries altogether.

So now what it does is it makes it really easy just to be able to pick and choose which countries.

And again, you can see due on multiple selection on if I turn that off, then hopefully now you'll

see that it only allows me to choose one option that's pretty useful.

We can turn that on.

Can also then say, How do you want this to be viewed?

So you check it itself.

What's your text size to the I can make it a little bit smaller as well.

What's the height that you want to use?

Do you want to make bigger or smaller here?

In this case, I do have a bit of extra space so I could make it a bit higher.

Your width.

Do you want a specific background color?

You can create the background color on there or keep it as what?

What is your selection color so basic when it's selected.

And again, we say that.

So we now know it's when it's selected.

And if you wanted to, you could have hover colors and you can see there's quite a few options there.

So just like any other visualization, it allows you now to be able to make any changes that you want.

Okay, great.

So we've now got that selected and it's now part of our sales report.

So let's see what happens in the air service.

If we publish this, is it going to work in the air service?

So we're going to go back.

We're going to actually save this and we're going to publish it.

So let's first of all, just go to the top.

We're going to save this and let's go back to our home.

Let's choose our publish option again.

I'm going to publish into training and we're going to select that.

It's going to tell me it's going to replace an existing report.

That's fine.

We'll replace that.

Okay.

We'll give that a bit of time.

Just let it finish the publishing.

So good news.

Success.

We've now published that successfully.

Let's go back into the Power Air Service and let's view this report.

Okay.

Right.

We're back in the pub service.

We're back on the home page.

So let's go to our workspace.

We're going to go to our training workspace.

And in this case, now we're going to choose our sales report again.

All right, So there's our sales report.

And there we go.

Good news.

There's our countries and we select our countries.

We can see now that it is doing not filter very easily.

So there we go.

We've now brought a custom visualisation into our Power BI desktop and we've now published it to the

pub, your service.
