Welcome to this section.

So in this section, we're going to start looking at how we can build up our data model.

We're going to start looking at how we can create calculations that are going to enhance our ability

to analyze data.

Now, one of the ways we can do this is to create something called the calculated column.

So what you're going to see is that we're going to add a new column into our table and we're going to

do a calculation that will then add data into that column.

Now, to do that, what we're going to do is we're going to use something called the DAX formula language.

So you're going to see that Dex is actually very similar to Excel.

So you're going to see a lot of common expressions between the two.

Now, this is really nice because it allows you to move from Excel into Dex very, very quickly and

very easily.

So what we're going to be doing in this section is we're going to be doing some common calculations,

also going to be looking at some data calculations.

So we're going to look at how we can get our year, how we can get a month on a weekday, and we can

bring this data then into our analysis.

And also in this section, we're going to be covering how to create a data master file.

So when we're creating data elements such as year, month, week, day, you may not want to do this

for each report.

So we're going to see with the date master file, we can create once, then bring it into our report

user relationship and it's a lot quicker and easy to be able to do this.
