In this lesson.

I just quickly wanted to have a look at something called Drill Through Fields.

Now, you may have noticed that when you're working with the report that underneath your values you

have something called Drill three and you get the ability to say, Do you want to do this cross report

and do you want to be able to keep all filters?

So if you say keep all filters basically means that all the filters you selected, are you passing those

along?

But this is the big part that we're going to be looking at here is add drill through fields here.

So let's look at an example and see how this would work.

So I'm going to go to my page two, and I'm just going to simplify this.

Let's say, for example, we've got a table, and in the table we've got a list of different product

categories.

I'm just going to show our product categories in this.

Then we're going to create a new page.

Again, we'll create a table.

And in this case, what we want to do is we want to show our product subcategories and let's say our

sales figures.

Now, what we want in page three is that when somebody selects something on page two, that it will

then pass the value of the product category across into page three, and then it will automatically

filter this table to only show the product subcategories that have been selected.

So basically it is a drill through filter.

When somebody picks something, it's now going to drill down into that and show them a new page.

Now I'm going to just use one table here, but you could have several tables and graphs and everything

on this page.

When you pass it across, it is going to affect everything that is on the page.

And the way that you do that is on this page three, we add the product category now into this drill

through option.

So you can see at the moment nothing is selected.

So let's go back to page two and we're going to select, say, audio.

And I'm just going to right click on this and you're going to see that it now gives me the option to

drill this through.

So I'm going to say, do I want to drill through?

Do I want to go to page three?

So I'm going to say yes.

And you can see automatically now that that has been passed through because only the product subcategories

are showing for audio.

You can also see down at the bottom here that your filter is now activated for audio.

Also, what's been created is a little back button.

So when you're working in your Power BI desktop, you actually have to press the control key to actually

use the button, because if you just click on it, it will just basically allow you to format it because

it is just another item in your report.

So press control and then click on the icon and it will take you back from where you've come from.

Another example is right Click on computers again, get a drill through again.

It's offering page three because I've put that in there.

And again, now we'll see that only the product subcategories for computers has been passed through.

So as you can see, it's pretty simple to set up a drill through filter.

I just wanted to give you a quick example of that.

And also just to show you that this button has been created that allows you to return and you can see

that they just get an action and basically just say, take you back to where you came from.

So that's basically how that works.
