in these races over the years,

at the historic Makapu'’u Lighthouse,

taking in the incredible vistas,
when one of my coast guard friends,

who was still trying to catch up to me,
hollers out,

So, like a rocket,
I pulled down the stairwell,

and there, 200 feet below us
are swimmers in trouble.

"“Sean, you can'’t go down there,

it'’s too steep, it's too dangerous."”

But two people are alive today

because I listened to myself, not others.
