is the USS Missouri,

on whose decks the surrender was signed.

[Charlie] Everywhere I looked,
someone I knew was dying.

[explosions in the distance]

I saved 11 guys.

I couldn't get to number 12.

You were a hero.

You don't get it, do you?

I had a guy under each arm
and I had to watch the 12th guy drown.

[Charlie]
I've had to live with that my whole life.

And that 12th guy was Hank.

[Mitch] Hank Everly, your best friend.

[Mitch] I don't blame you
for what you want to do,

but for what it's worth,
it's called survivor's guilt.

Sir, you're living a legacy

from Hank and all your buddies
who died on the USS Utah.

Whether you know it or not,

you're depositing that guilt on Jessie.

like a heritage,

and she'll have to carry that guilt
