The water, the waves. They'’re the hazards.

Put hazards together with people,
you have risk.

Your job is Risk Management.

it'’s also
about having an indomitable will.

been selected for that trait.

You know what makes it so special is,
it'’s almost vertical.

When the waves from the winter

As the Hawaiian say, "five-men high."

Five men, that'’s 30 feet.

And that'’s measuring
from the back of the waves,

not the front
like they do down in Australia.

Wow, that'’s incredible.

So, Nick, tell me,
where did you get your training

to become a Coast Guard
Aviation Survival Technician?

Actually, it'’s a combination
of three different schools.

First, it'’s beautiful Elizabeth,
New Jersey.

Then they ship us down to the Navy
Rescue Survival School in Pensacola.

Florida? You ever skip down
to Key West for Pina Coladas?

-They'’re the best.
-[Nick laughs] You bet.

Spent one weekend down there.
Man, almost ended up being AWOL.

[Dawn laughs]

The third is
Advanced Rescue in Astoria, Oregon.

How did you know?

[chuckles]

[man overlapping] This weekend at the
Banzai Pipeline.

It's winning the chronic action. Pipeline. Banzai. Watch them fall.

This is the famous Banzai Pipeline?

Yeah, well, without the Banzai.

We'’re here now
because there are no big waves.

We shoot the bottom
