What was your impression when you received this piece?

And when you checked it?

When I found this piece was in my mailbox, I was very excited.

I've had a long history of doing new music,

and so I am always very passionate and very excited to find something new.

And this was certainly new.

I've done work with electric guitar before, but this piece explores

genres and sounds which I haven't had the opportunity to explore as a conductor.

So it was quite exciting.

What was the assembling of this piece like?

Putting together this piece actually was relatively simple.

It's difficult, but it's well-written and very clear.

What he wants, the composer wants with Carla wants is explicit in the score,

and so we just have to follow the directions, basically.

And we have such a good team

that all of the parts we're working very well together.

So although it's quite difficult, the process has been very easy.

what do you think about his music?

Well, this is the first time I've come across

Carlos music, and I really am excited to learn more of it.

I love this piece. I'm really enjoying working on it.

The orchestra sounds amazing.

The soloists are really topnotch and so I'm excited

to find out more about Carlos music.

What do you think about

a piece that includes

electric guitar and a controller in an new in this?

Sure.

I think that we are living in one of the

most exciting times for classical music, so called classical music

for this very reason, because the walls

that have contained what we consider classical music have broken down

in the last 20 years, especially, in fact, even in the last five years.

So for me to do a piece that has electric guitar electronics and,

you know, ideas from metal music, from rock music, from popular music,

from new music,

and put it right next to Beethoven is what I want to be doing creatively.

And it's also what I want to give to the audience today.

I think it's the way forward.

I think that when younger people are in the audience,

they're going to be turned on by this music in a different sort of way.

And I do think that the classical music lovers will also find something new

and exciting in this. So for me, it's very exciting.

And do you have any advice for the audience

regarding concert music.

My advice to the audience regarding

contemporary music is just come with an open mind.

Open your ears, open your mind and listen.

And it's okay not to like the music.

That's fine.

Because most likely there'll be something else on the program that you do like.

And so the more you listen, the more you explore, the more you learn

about this music, I promise, the more you will start to like it.

And in fact, you might even love it.
