[Music] oh [Music] before dc comics and marvel there was king features before superman and captain america they were secret agent x9 a comic strip syndicated in newspapers by king features beginning in 1934 it was created by hard-boiled detective writer dashiell hammett and artist alex raymond the hand behind jungle gym and flash gordon the premise was simple a nameless agent working for a nameless agency the missions and villains would change with the times during its 62 years in publication in 1937 it was adapted by universal pictures for a 12-chapter cliffhanger starring scott kolk by the mid-1940s universal had serialized more comic strip characters than its rivals colombia and republic combined its last would be a second version of secret agent x9 which brings us to today's cliffhanger serial marathon at the onset of world war ii on the only neutral island in the pacific x-9 teams with chinese and australian agents to stop the axis powers from possessing the formula to create synthetic fuel codenamed 722 [Music] on this glorious day the first anniversary of pearl harbor japan must remember that victory depends more than winning or losing battles science and industry are equally as important as the imperial army and navy all scientists in their laboratories must develop better weapons our industrialists must improve the manufacturing process our workers must
