in the early days west of Sonora The Cry

of gold rang out in

California like mors to a flame men

swarmed West lured by their own dreams

of fabulous

weth gold was in the

streams in the mountains in the fertile

soil of once peaceful

valleys but blood ran with gold it was a

brutal World a man's world a woman was a

rare creature seldom seen in some remote

mining towns oldtimers like these had

almost forgotten what a woman looks like

and then one day there was heard an

amazing

report a woman was coming to SEO

City yes the news had been

verified

and she was a passenger on the weekly

stage from Stockton her name was

[Music]

Penelope but the stage from stocken

wasn't to reach SEO City without some

delay and when black Murphy or any of

his men gave orders

they were usually

obeyed the man with the hook had become

a legend of Terror west of Sonora what

did he want with Penelope

[Music]

Clinton you're coming with me Penny but

I can't I'm on my way to see my grandpa

Clinton he's a sheriff and he's going to

take care of me he's not fit to take

care of your child besides you're my

granddaughter too your mother was my

little

girl take the luggage blowing this

little girl off that

[Music]

stage gold robberies and bloodshed

continued in violence and black Murphy's

reputation for lawlessness Rose in

proportion rightly or wrongly the man

with the hook became credited with every

crime west of

Sonora and one man Sheriff Jeff Clinton

swore he'd stop at nothing to bring the

outlaw to Justice Texas is a long way

from here Jeff or I'd made it sooner

tell me what makes you think black

Murphy's responsible for all the trouble

hereabout because that blackhearted

scoundrel wouldn't allow another Crook

in this territory besides all the

evidence points to Murphy and his men I

see I just wanted to make sure that the

old family feud between the Murphy's and

the clintons wasn't walking your sense

of justice you know me better than that

Steve I'm a law man first and last I'm a

law man too Jeff be Mighty proud to be

your Deputy Murphy couldn't have hurt me

more when he took my grand well getting

penny back would be part of the Joby men

Jeff I've got news of your granddaughter

let's go

inside not only did Penny seem well and

happy but I'm convinced after watching

Murphy saved bast's life that he's not

the man you're after Steve you've been

taken in for that black heart tell us

the location of his Camp we'll have him

behind prison bar so fast he won't even

know what happened I can't do that Jeff

I gave black Murphy my word I wouldn't

cause him any trouble they're L places

to can back here why don't you just turn

in your badge and be done with it slow

down Jeff maybe Steve here's got a plan

you ought to listen to well have you yes

I have I want you and Murphy to meet

talk things over I'll take you to his

Camp if you come alone Steve you're

local Murphy would shoot any law man on

site he didn't shoot me think it over

Jeff I'll be back in a little while

the one man that could lead us some

won't do it main thing is he knows where

Murphy's located and sure duty is

Sheriff to capture black Murphy play it

smart yet what do you mean why tell your

honorable Deputy you've decided to

follow his plan and I'll form a secret

posy and follow you trickery has never

been my method of doing things s time

you change your method or do you think

you should turn in your

bed you're right round up some men to be

waiting out of

[Music]

town you ought to brush up on your aim

Brock Jack vasin still

alive right now he's at murph's Camp

recovering from your

bullet my brother don't realize it but

he's going to help us make sure he don't

recover don't you have any mother or

father

grandfathers anyone to look after you no

child I ain't got anybody you mean

you're all

alone that's right and Mrs ckins and I

terribly poor but we don't have any

Mothers or fathers either we're only

mind telling me where Murphy's

located you got a tent camp in a draw

just the other side of Stone Canyon

good well let's keep on going that's

Jeff signal that he knows where he's

going come

on

[Music]

what's the idea I'm sorry Steve but you

were so blame mistaken about Murphy that

this is the only way I knew how to get

him don't worry Deputy you didn't mean

to break your word yeah we'll tell

Murphy it wasn't really your fault oh

come on man the hide house just the

other side of Stone

[Music]

Canyon

[Music]

[Music]

go

k the sheriff knows the location of your

Camp Mary he's headed this way with a py

now you haven't got a chance of fighting

it out better clear up your Camp when

I'm a double crossed I fight get to your

horses

men

Grandpa

Granda what's the matter nothing

child thanks for the warning here on

we'll handle things

ourselves the sheriff and these men will

have to go through Stone Canyon that's

as far as they'll ever get I'll join you

there as quick as I

[Music]

can

[Music]

you won't be afraid with do promise me

you'll wait right here until I come back

for I won't be

convinced about

Murphy

past killed by the hook and it happened

just a few minutes before we got there

take the body off the under

yeah who discovered the murder Jeff well

my brother Sandy found him first Murphy

must have got word we were after him and

finished off bask just before he left

Camp these bask effect yeah follow them

can't give a lock him up for me will you

I'm going home all Jeff where's penny

she's safe I'll find her do you think

I'd let you get her away from me put up

that gun Murphy wait to get back to town

to break your word could you I told you

I'd kill you if you did that's one of

the reasons I'm here don't try a fast

dra Jeff never make

it lock him up Jeff before anybody comes

in I hate to think what an Angry Crowd

would do to

him

[Music]

what happened in here we heard a

shot black

Murphy course for St and he kill us both

Mighty quick thinking wait till the town

here's about

this hey wait a minute oh let him go let

him go there's no reason to keep good

news a secret there's plenty of Reason

Jeff after all you're responsible for

the safety of your presis until he comes

up to

trial how many of you knew old

basard well I for one say that black

Murphy don't deserve no trial just a

minute just a

minute now get this straight all of you

the one around here is going to take the

law to his own hand don't listen to him

he's been siding with Murphy from the

start I've warned

[Music]

you good work Dixon let's get black

Murphy yeah let's

get Dixon and me will get into the

Sheriff's Office through the back door

the rest of you keep up plenty of Racket

out

[Music]

be taken out of this jail do you hear me

yeah we hear you Jeff but you're wrong

took Penny to keep you from killing Jeff

Clinton in town it was all I could do to

keep you from getting killed I want you

to do exactly what I tell you why should

I I made my first mistake when I took

the word of a sneaking double crossing

law man why should I trust you because

it's the only way you'll get penny

back you guarantee she'll be safe I

guarantee you what do you want me to do

lie low for the time being keep a close

eye on bascom's

claim

three strike or two my granddaughter

Penelope many meet three strikes how do

you

do M Mike I want you to meet

my how do you do M

Mike hello

Jake thanks smiley

I should think when Jeff Clinton's son

ran off and married black Murphy's

daughter it would have marked the end of

the Family Feud no that only made things

worse Jeff wouldn't even mention his

son's name after that

happened pretty tough on a little often

being loved by two grandfathers and kill

each other on

sight that's orange a you take it you'll

drink it and you're going to like

it

train the glory

train

train

[Music]

again

Glory that

[Music]

whistle

Glory you hear that train coming it's

coming around the it's aing and a it

won't come back again so have your

ticket ready for that train is found on

high that train to go into Glory going

to reach their

[Music]

by

brother

are

letain it's the

[Music]

glory yeah I'd like to make an

announcement well sure I guess it's all

right but you aren't going to preach a

sermon are you that depends on how you

look at it this Bible was among baskam

ofs listen everybody Steve has something

to say

when Jack baskam died he left behind two

things this Bible here and his gold M

before he died it seems he fell in love

with a gal listen to what the old minor

wrote on the Fly Le to whom it may

concern I jack baskam being alone in the

world and having no HS desire that in

the event of my death by causes natural

or otherwise that my entire claim and

all the gold in it become the property

of one Penelope Clinton signed Jack B

well

this afternoon I file baskin's

claim it may make Penny Clinton the

richest person west of Sonora oh Steve

you didn't tell me I didn't tell anyone

until the claim was saved let's drink a

toast of Penelope Clinton

nowbody see that are you happy

dear

ex has my Granda Murphy been invited to

my

party

uh Penny all evening long I've been

wanting to do some singing but just

ain't nobody asked me to sing if you was

to ask me though none of these fellas

could stop me don't you suppose you

could ask me maybe huh

please please sing it smiley oh

sure I ain't leaving nobody nothing and

I ain't taking nothing alone I'm going

to SP tce as much as I'm a making I'm

going to pay my way with a song can't be

bothered with in my pocket it's the root

of all evil I say I ain't going to do

tomor what I didn't get

[Music]

done there

is where did you hear

that do it what's going to tell him he

ain't the that's right Hein no no

sir you got

it

[Music]

yep

today I ain't leaving nobody nothing no

I ain't taking nothing alone I'm going

to spend twice as much as I'm a am I'm

going to pay my way with a song I can't

be bothered with in my pocket it's the

RO of all evil they say I ain't going to

do

get to be careful want to be working

[Music]

today

[Music]

that's

Sandy

what's up basam claims been filed on

after all we've got to work fast by Boys

bye so long look

[Applause]

good that was close

I'd like a word with you

smiley party

over see you tomorrow Jeff yeah goodbye

bye Smiley huh I picked a very important

job for you well you sure picked the

right fell Little Penny Clinton's life

may be in danger well Smiley Brett's

always willing and what look

I want you to act as Penny's bodyguard

if anything happens to her I'll hold you

responsible well you can depend on me

good remember don't let anybody know of

our talk oh

no Take that her little girl with you

I'll get you hey tell the sheriff the

Mind claim registration office is on

fire it is jump

I know boys but if you please go on home

there's nothing else I can do tonight

what about that fire has stored every

official record if all claims aren't

protected right away they'll be jumped

well all right all right see me in the

morning oh did you find anything enough

to know that fire was no accident sure

Murphy's men did it I want to talk to

you alone Sheriff all right come on boys

clear off come on I'll see I'll do all I

can to get the claims back for

you we're that fixed if the loss of

those claim records will cause more

violence and bloodshed than anything

we've had yet they're not lost that's

what I wanted to tell

you brought him here this afternoon for

safekeeping well you don't mean a well

Steve you've saved the day I'll break

the good news oh wait a minute

Jeff if we make everyone think these

claim deeds have been lost whoever's

after the minds especially the bast CL

will show his hand you mean his hook I'm

still not convinced you're right about

Murphy you know Jeff they say love makes

a person blind well hate does too and

you've hated Murphy for so long you

can't see him as anything else but a

blackhearted door well he killed Jack

baskam didn't he oh one stor him do it

far as I can see everything against

black Murphy's been only circumanal well

he he he kidnapped Penny she's his grand

daughter too oh all right but what's all

this got to do with the claim records is

the only information in existence giving

a legal description of baskin's mind now

if those Claim Jumpers file against them

that'll give us the lead we want all

right I'll think it over now you go out

there and try to pacify those miners all

right

hey Sandy

yeah were you out there all the time

Steve and I were talking uhhuh well uh

what do you think I ought to

do you ought to do as he says let Murphy

think the records have been destroyed

then you wait up at the baskam claim and

catch Murphy red-handed and if I were

you I wouldn't let Steve in on that

that's part of it lay it

alone you're right Steve's a good man

but he's got the wrong idea about

Murphy the sheriff is going up to the

baskam claim tomorrow alone you three

keep an eye on that new Deputy make sure

he doesn't go there

too oh boy a homecooked meal and am I

Starve is this the first meal you ever

cooked honey uhhuh well it's just

[Music]

looks you know Mrs ckins looks awfully

peed I think maybe she'd use this for

strength oh no she's a very light eater

you can't have all of her

breakfast

yeah oh I near

go oh Lord for all this wonderful food

let us be beautifully

grateful now you

[Music]

all today oh goody I'll be able to cook

you lunch and dinner

too that's right fill him up

penny

[Music]

we can see anyone coming to the claim

from

[Music]

here we'll be able to pick off the

sheriff from here without any trouble

once out of the way I'm The Only Living

relative of Penny Clinton except for

black Murphy Murphy won't dare show his

face especially after my brother's

murder's been pinned on you sure made

good use of that Clinton Murphy Feud

ain't a man this side of Sonora who

don't blame Murphy for everything we've

been doing that just comes from playing

the pool while my brother thinks he's

the smart one you think that mind as

Richard Bas figured

it

Richard

[Music]

[Music]

wait a minute this is even better than

we counted on let Jeff find Murphy

chances are good those two kill each

other they don't you boys can finish the

job where are you going make sure that

even Penny Clinton doesn't stand between

me and the legal claim of that

[Music]

mine

[Music]

[Music]

even a Murphy don't deserve to get shot

in the back I understand you're pretty

fast on the draw I'll turn around and

start

shooting I'm going to count to three and

then I'm going to shoot anyway

one

two

[Applause]

[Music]

you two better hang together now or

you'll be shot separately well who's

shooting at us if it isn't Murphy's man

I wouldn't be surprised for what are

some of your trusted friends how many

knew you were coming here today nobody

except my brother and smiley you told

your brother it's was his

[Music]

idea itd be worth Penny Clinton's life

to get out of this scrape the sooner the

[Music]

matter I'll draw that fire you two try

and get to your

[Music]

horses try to circle

around all right start stop

[Music]

moving

[Music]

after

keep on

[Music]

going

[Music]

[Music]

[Applause]

[Music]

[Applause]

[Music]

[Applause]

[Music]

Brock is the only man beside your

brother Sheriff who knows who killed

Jack bman I didn't kill him I swear I

didn't we still alive when you and Sandy

went to his tent wasn't he

yes but I didn't kill him his brother

did it he used a hook to make it look

like Murphy did

it I'm going to do a trick now that

everybody in the world knows but I'm the

only one that can do it I'm going to

make a tree might even have squirrels in

it might even have apples on it and tell

Great Big Tall Tree room for everything

keeps getting taller and taller and then

can sing a song about an

Indian in the fur away Mountain the high

P the Liv Little Engine he was might

cute and all of the Braves would go to

hunt the bear they tell a little in you

say right there they tell a little and

you stay right there he had a little

Hatchet a willow too he could make an

arrow go a sailing through pull a little

string sight with his eye and flip a

little arrow up in the sky he'd flip a

little arrow up in the sky poor little

engine felt so bad had no fun like bra

had all left him at home leave a little

engine all alone he long for the day

when the world would see what a great

big Brave was he they'd be glad they had

him there fre bring him home a great big

bear he bring them home A Great Big

Bear one day all Hunters were away when

a limpy old hound started into Bay

scared a little Indian out of his hide

when he hurt right by his side he hurt

right by his side there stood a wild cat

great big teeth claws like pitchforks

right beneath spitting out fire and a

growling like a bear the poor little

Indian stood right there and the poor

little Indian stood right there quick

like a f she stung a b pull her way back

and flippy let her go slap the old wild

cat right in the snoot he laid on his

back and he never made it toot when all

of the Braves had viewed the cat they

all agreed that that was that forever

more when we hunt the bear we want the

little Indian to be right there well

they want the little Indian to

be right

[Music]
