because, I’m sorry,

their coverage sucks!

Okay, we’ve been surviving
on a diet of Pizza Hut Pizza

and Jolt Cola,
so... we’re a little fried.

Yeah, man!

(Screaming)

But, we’re riding a humungoid
caffeine, and sugar buzz.

I mean, I could bend
spoons with my mind!

(Laughter)

I’m so tired,
that for a while there

I was starting
to hallucinate, man!

At about four in the morning,
Garrett Utley

started to look like an alien!

I just wanted to grab
his big head and go,

Our job tonight, is more
to inform, than to entertain,

because, after 72 hours

of non-stop three-set
intense watching,

I mean, we got
so sucked into the coverage,

we didn’t even bother
to go upstairs.

I mean, we just whizzed in the
laundry room sink, you know?

to be conceited,

but, we are now experts,

Our top story tonight,

An announced, that Scud,
has been officially approved

as a useable scrabble word.

President Bush,
this week, called

the initial airstrike,
against Iraq, called

"The darnest search and destroy
mission ever mounted."

(Laughter)

Boy, the gloves are off.

(Laughter)

As experts have predicted, the
hostilities escalated yesterday

in the Middle East, as two US
networks, fought with each other

over access to information
and communications.

NBCsaid CNNhad

"Preferential treatment,
from the Iraqi government",

CNN accused NBC of,
"whining."

(Laughter)

Although they ordered,
all the journalist out of Iraq,

that, isn’t stopping, our
one- man mobile uplink unit

Al Franken, who reports now
from Baghdad. Al!

Dennis, I am, in Baghdad.

Only electronic journalist,
beaming out pictures from Iraq.

Now once again showing the value
of a totally self contained

one - man, mobile

Al, Baghdad
appears, once again

to be under massive
aerial attack.

Uh, yes Dennis, and,
it is eerily beautiful.

Uh, a couple of minutes ago, I
saw I Tomahawkmissile actually

strike it’s target.

The Tomahawkis -
is really amazing.

What it does is uh, it homes
in on a radar signals,

or, radio waves, or any other
electronic impulse.

And, once it homes in
on it and,

it locks in that’s
pretty much it.

Uh, oh wait a minute,
I see one now.

In fact, it appears to be headed
in this general direction.

Uh, turning now,
toward me, and, Oh, my God!

(Explosion)

Well, it appears that , Al’s
equipment has become unplugged.

Uh, but, hopefully we’ll be
seeing more

of our, one man mobile
uplink unit, Al Franken.

After a seven - hour operation,
the Joints Chiefs of Staff,

were finally
separated this week.

(Laughter)

And, according to a recent wire
service report, on an average

night, the White House,
orders five pizzas

from Domino’spizza delivery,
on an average night.

But, this week, as the countdown
neared the deadline

on Tuesday night the White House
ordered 55 pizzas.

I don’t have a joke, just,
you know,

what do they do
with all that pizza?

(Laughter)

Thousands of Iraqi refugees,
have reportedly been flinged

across the border into Iran,
to escape the bombings.

You know, we live
in troubled times, when Iran

is considered safe harbor.

(Laughter)

Two pollspublished
last Tuesday show,

the US population divided, on
whether or not, to start a war.

But, a third poll, released
by the White House

that evening, shows
that a majority of Americans

favored an attack,
rather than waiting.

(Laughter)

How many Iraqis does it take,
to screw in a lightbulb?

None, they’re not allowed to
turn their lights on anymore.

(Laughter)

And, CNNpresident,
Ted Turner, this week

reportedly questioned,
correspondent Bernard Shaw’s

expense account reports,
from Baghdad.

Turner questioned the $17,000
in damages,

the Shaw’s hotel room,
and said Bernie’s an animal.

He gets on the road,
and he’s like Keith Moon.

(Laughter)

You know, I feel sorry for, the
one retired Lieutenant Colonel

who, didn’t get a job as a
military analyst, this week.

(Soft laughter)

MTVthis week, gave up close
interviews, with rockstars

to get their opinions,
on the Desert Storm War.

I find it a little incongruous,
when guys from groups

like Megadethand Slaughter,
wax philosophic about war.

While that in itself, is
a frightening prospect,

Joseph Hazelwood.

If trees could scream,

would we be so cavalier,
about cutting them down?

We might, if they scream all
the time, for no good reason.

(Laughter)

(Man speaking): I remember, I
was hammering on a fence, in
the west pasture,

when papa approached.

He was carrying a letter or
something, in his hand

and he look worried.

I continued to hammer ,
as he came toward me.

"Son" he said, "why are you
hammering on that fence?

It already has plenty
of nails in it."

Oh, I’m not using nails papa,
I’m just hammering.

With that, I returned
to my hammering.

Papa asked me to stop
hammering, as he had some news.

I did stop hammering, but first

I’ve got a couple
more hammers in.

And this seem to make papa mad.

"I said, stop hammering"
he yelled.

I think he felt bad
for yelling at me

especially, since it looked
like he had bad news.

Look, he said, you can
hammer later but first -

Well, I didn’t even wait to
hear the rest, as
soon as I heard

"you can hammer", that’s
what I started doing.

Hammering away, happy
as an old hammer dog.

Pap, tried to physically stop
me from hammering

by inserting a small log

of some sort between,
my hammer and the fence

but, I just kept on hammering.

’cause that’s the way I am,
when I get that hammer going.

Then he just grabbed my
arm, and made me stop.

"I’m afraid I have some
news for you," he said.

I swear, what I did
next, was not hammering.

I was just letting the hammer
swing lazily at arms length,

and, maybe it tapped the
fence once or twice

but, that’s all.

That apparently didn’t
make, any difference
whatsoever to papa

because, he just grabbed my
hammer out of my hand,

and, flung it across the field.

When I saw my hammer,

flying helplessly
through the air like that,

I just couldn’t take it.

I burst out crying, I admit it.

And I ran to the house, as
fast as my legs could take me.

Son come back, yelled papa,
what about your hammer?

But, I could not have cared
less about hammering, at
that point.

I ran into the house, and flung
myself on to my bed,

pounding the bed with my fist.

I pounded and pounded, until
finally, behind me,

I heard a voice.

As long as your pounding,
why not use this.

I turned, and it was papa

holding a brand new
solid gold hammer.

I quickly wiped the tears
from my eyes

and ran to papa’s
outstretched arms.

But, suddenly papa jumped
out of the way

and I went sailing through
thesecond story window

behind him.

(Soft laughter)

Whenever I hear about a kid,
getting in trouble with drugs,

I like to tell them this story.

(Soft laughter)
