We are now at an important
Asian dock,

where poverty can lead to cruelty.

We have taken up a hidden position,

inside a booth where the
ferry boat tickets are sold.

To follow this tourist who is
apparently looking for something,

Prostitution is nothing shocking.

But here's a mother who forces her daughter
into the world's oldest profession.

An adolescent, almost a baby.

The mothers usually make the negotiations,
which can last for a long time.

As they're not willing to
give away a single cent.

And the more attractive the
daughter, the higher the asking price.

We follow the whole scene indiscreetly.

The young girl has doe-eyes and looks innocent
while her mother praises her talent

Will she convince the tourist,
To pay that amount of money?

The Negotiation is over, and the mother
looks satisfied, the daughter does not.

This woman is only half guilty,

when she was young, her mother
did the same to her.

We have shown you things that

tourists are not usually allowed to see,

Things that are not written in guides
and that we would like to ignore.

But let us continue our travel.

We are now in Hong Kong,
a free port, Asia's Switzerland

where the economic boom has
raised the price of houses sky-high

where skyscrapers row like mushrooms

and the city is always a huge construction site
providing work for the many immigrants

from Malaysia, Cambodia, Vietnam.

If the future of a civilization depends
on the the strength of its traditions

the Chinese civilization has
thousands of years of traditions.

Look at this religious ceremony

a huge crowd attends this ritual

following the procession both on foot
and on boats.

It's the celebration for lnau, one of the
most spectacular ceremonies in Asia

that takes place every year
during spring's full moon.

Inau is the queen of the skies,
and the goddess of the sea.

Chinese fishermen pay her homage

by bringing her food in the various temples
across the bay

The incense burners fill the air with
perfumed and coloured smoke,

in honour of the goddess.

Then the boats gather around
Victoria Peaks bay

and they all attend the transit
of the procession

Every year almost 300.000
people attend the ceremony

As in every modern society,
the young people protest against the ritual

These two have their own way of
protesting against the traditions.

They have occupied 3 square metres,

a beautiful veranda that
overlooks Hong Kong

They dance to more "familiar" music

and instead of wearing sumptuos clothes
they have chosen a more comfortable

and more "ancient" costume:
their birthday suit.

Another aspect of this riveting city
is the institution known as "topless bar"

Here the customers are served by
beautiful topless ladies.

But, contrarily to what you might expect,

these girls work here as a second job

to earn some extra money.

During the day - we have double-checked -

they work as bank clerks, tourist guides,

hotel receptionists, students, and so on.

We sincerely hope that some Italian mayor,
after seeing this,

will soon propose something similar in Italy.

Maybe he could easily, although only partially,
get rid of the problem of unemployment.

In Caulin, along the main road, there's the
only sex-shop in the whole of Asia

Young couples with sexual probelms
come from all over the country

hoping to finally solve their problems.

It is said that Asian men are
sexually "under-equipped"

Today, rather than blaming themselves,

they co-operate with their wives
to solve their problem.

Nowadays Asian women are modern
and, along with popular wisdom,

they have become more and more resourceful

and help their husbands make the "big" step.

After the first embarassing moments

the docile husband follows
the clerk's suggestions.

There are travel packs, luxury packs

While our stomach starts complaining

messing about with the snake.

We'd like to run away
but we are professional}; obliged to stay.

And document yet another "naked and cruel" fact.

We ask our Chinese colleagues
if they want to join us.

They happily accept
moved by our European kindness.

And at last the snake spaghetti
is served, for the Chinese people.

There's no denying it, each to his own taste,

and they must be so polite that
our friends ask for seconds.

Swiftly and rapidly, we move to
an Italian restaurant.
