You will always find soldiers
along the borders, on each side.

With different uniforms,
speaking different languages.

But up here, where loneliness is
so great, men are not so alone,

and they're certainly closer to each other
than people walking along city streets

where they bump into each other
without even looking at each other.

The exchange of a cigarette;

are here the signs of human
bonding, of the need for fraternity,
