everything around here the town banks
newspapers all those fields and the
people does he own you that was pretty
hard on him it doesn't have anything you
know I don't have enough to lose begin
on me I don't understand that the way
you own someone is you give them a lot
when you're threatened to take it away
from them
looking bigjim take away from me that
little place over there 200 a week yeah
I work for wages Big Jim moans me from
sunup to sundown that's all

other common folks hey Stan yes ma'am
[Applause]
I don't go home now Big Jim had a big
redheaded mucker working for him by the
name of Dick Finley oh I knew I was a
better trainer than Finley but I think
it would take Big Jim about five years
to figure that out so one night I went
to the bar where Finley hung out he was
a bit drunk I picked a fight with him
and I broke his arm that goes to Big Jim
and Isis they look for here put your man
out for a couple of weeks so I just
worked for you for nothing till he heals

the name of shadows it's a real beauty
man at horse cabron it's right after I
come to work here
he was spooky tried everything we
couldn't break him my toe Big Jim horse
had never make it on a track and even
the starting gun spooked he came off the
line sideways Big Jim wouldn't listen
I took shadows to the fairgrounds down
in New Orleans came in a bad fourth we
got back to the stable Big Jim took out
a 38 and he shot that poor horse right
between the eyes went boom yeah that'll
teach you you son of a [ __ ] I love that
horse
went berserk picked up a bucket of oats
you know a feeder that goes what even
right upside the head back hand and goes
down and I turned around I headed north
I'm on the highway hitchhiking
it comes Big Jim in his limousine
butters gonna kill me
pulls up me says yeah but you won't do
that for that's my goddamn horse I do
anything I want with him
I said yeah let be in the case punch on
back to your farm issued all your horses
come he none of them run as fast as he
could Big Jim thinks a minute throws
back his head and he laughs he says okay
let's let's you and me go find us a
horse that can run as fast as him one
who doesn't faint every time he hears a
bee fart but you don't treat a woman
like a wedding cake what Big Jim he
treats me like a wedding cake he doesn't
want to spoil I see him

Big Jim the law that oh I told her she
ought to come down and see how the PO
folks live [ __ ] man I think Jim's gonna
catch your ass when he find out you've
been messing with his wife and nobody
even complaining about a thing in this
county
yeah well charity begins at home
and that's just where I'm going babies
before the man gets back he's out of
town well he and gonna be out of town
forever baby
see you Barney okay so you do have a
little adventure in your soul Big Jim
doesn't know if that's what you need
that's very funny
haven't you heard Big Jim owns
everything around here the town banks
newspapers all those fields and the
people does he own you
that's pretty hard on a man who doesn't
have anything you know I don't have
enough to lose Big Jim only I don't
understand that the way you own someone
is you give him a lot
then you're threatened to take it away
from him [ __ ] Big Jim take away from
me that little place over there two
hundred a week yeah I work for wages Big
Jim owns me from sunup to sundown that's
all
besides Big Jim wants to win on the
track right now more than anything as
long as he figures I can give him one
he's not gonna get too smart with me
well
well what can you give him a winner told
you ever met the other horses yeah I
heard Big Jim say you're very good come
on I'll get you a cup of coffee I'll go
over the wipes you meet some of the
other common folks hey Stan yo Sam
[Applause]
I don't go home now Big Jim had a big
redheaded mucker working for him by the
name of Dick Finley oh I knew I was a
better trainer than Finley but I think
it would take Big Jim about five years
to figure that out so one night I went
to the bar where Finley hung out he was
a bit drunk I picked a fight with him
and I broke his arm
let goes to Big Jim and Isis they look
for here put your man out for a couple
of weeks so I just worked for you for
nothing till he heals up Jimmy never did
come back to work
[Music]
now hi in that vision house Cheerilee
- uma hi
Friday night Harry Colby comes up to me
at halftime there's a man a very rich
man wants to meet
Big Jim couldn't even do it himself
how deaf Harry is his bird dog Big Jim
had a Lincoln Continental his car I ever
saw
had a telephone a TV in it TV in a car
still knocks me over just to think about
it at the time I thought he was the
nicest man I'd ever met
graduation he gave me a new convertible
he talked to my mama daddy
they thought it was grandest thing ever
happened to our family
suppose it was went to Miami Beach on
our honeymoon came back here
and been any place since said
house

[Music]
[Applause]
Oh put them up Lonnie and as we called
ugly what are you thinking hey he isn't
mine
besides is a good breeder long as Big
Jim doesn't get too hacked off and if he
does I'd say
I tell you Big Jim had a horse once by
the name of shadows it's a real beauty
man that horse could run it's right
after I come to work here
he was spooky tried everything we
couldn't break him my toe Big Jim horses
never make it on a track and even the
starting gun spooked you come off the
line sideways Big Jim wouldn't listen
took shadows to the fairgrounds down in
New Orleans came in a bad fourth I got
back to the stable Big Jim took out a 38
and he shot that poor horse right
between the eyes went boom yeah that'll
teach you you son of a [ __ ] I love that
horse
I went berserk I picked up a bucket of
oats you know a feeder that goes what
you can right upside the head back in
and goes down not turned around I headed
north I'm on the highway hitchhike here
comes Big Jim in his limousine butters
gonna kill me
pulls up me says beer but you won't do
that for that's my goddamn horse I do
anything I want with him I said yeah let
be in the case punch on back to your
farmers should all your horses come he
none of them run as fast as he could
Big Jim thinks a minute throws back his
head and he laughs he says okay
and let's let's you and me go find us a
horse that can run as fast as him one
who doesn't faint every time he hears a
bee fart but you don't treat a woman
like a wedding cake well Big Jim he
treats me like a wedding cake he doesn't
want to spoil the icing him there's no
anyone else to either well I haven't got
any such intention I've got a girl
nobody a couple of us go in Atlanta
tonight

races you just rest your mind man what
he's as ready as you'll ever be goes
around that track like there's a mirror
waiting at the finish line for no really
win but I reckon that'll depend on the
other horses I never met any of
[Music]
