or for fresh water.

That the first men in

reporting sounds
coming from the forest.

The men said it sounded to them

like the voice of God...

warning them to stay away.

It's an open question how much
of this story Avery invented.

But what is undeniably true

is how undeniably effective
that story has been

in achieving a result.

that Billy chose it.

A place likely to put
us all out of balance,

where our imaginations
might run wild

and our darkest impulses

somehow made far more
difficult to resist.
