How did you learn to cook?

Well, when I was a kid,
about 13 Viola was volunteering

at a drop-in center
for troubled youth

that I was
spending some time at,

and we just kind of
bonded immediately.

And eventually,
she took me under her wing

and started giving me
cooking lessons twice a week

as a way to keep me out of
trouble. And as I got older,

I started getting
pretty good, you know,

on all these local
culinary competitions.

So,
when I graduated high school,

Viola got me a job in the
kitchen at the Garnet

and worked my way up from there.

seen something in you.

Yeah. I mean, nobody has
believed in me the way she did.
