I'm your host,
Kevin Burkhardt.

Season two of "Alone"
has people talking.

And tonight, we're gonna
give you more of what you love.

Oh, my God, I'm alone.

- We scoured the Internet
to find the ten

most talked-about moments,
and we're about to reveal them

with the people
who know them the best.

Say hello to the cast
of season two of "Alone."

They dealt with weather
and bears and hunger.

While we count down through the
biggest moments of the season,

we will also be bringing you
never-before-seen footage

from these folks right here.

And later on, you'll get
a sneak peek at season three,

taking place
in a brand-new location.

But first, let's take a look
at what the cast of season two

had to go through
before they got here today.

[plane engine whirring]

[helicopter rotors whirring]

- All right.
Oh!

Mama bear just stood up
on her hind legs.

Not good.

And this must be from a bear.

And a good-sized one too.

- So pretty sure
that's a cougar

or some kind of animal
with sharp [bleep] fangs.

[animal howling]

There's a bear outside.

There's two of them.

Get out of here!

Check this out.

It's a very large pile
of bear poo.

One, two, three, four.

That's still steaming.

Five.

Six.

And I thought I was gonna be
alone out here.

[laughs]

Any reason for me to worry?

[chuckles]

Well, the smart guy would
take that seriously.

♪

- I'm not really sure how
I would've felt if I were there.

Actually, I probably
would've ran really fast.

And so, with that experience
with the bears,

let's start
with you, Desmond.

Getting into this.

Military guy.

So you obviously
you have a background

in being out there
in elements.

How did that
prepare you for this?

- Um, to be honest, with ya,
the military background,

I thought would prepare me
a lot more than it did.

And it didn't help at all.

Vastly different from anything

I've ever experienced
before in my life.

- Let's take a look
at your experience

at moment number ten.

[boat engine humming]

- There's the rescue boat
right there.

They're coming to get me.

Situation's just...

it's crazy.

I don't feel safe.

Little scared right now.

Uh, I feel like I bit off
more than I can chew.

- I was up off in here that had
bear scat all over there,

so I moved out of there.

Wow.

Look, look, look.

Bear scat.

Definitely
a bear presence here.

Not gonna sugarcoat it; I'm
a little concerned right now.

Feeling a little anxious
right now.

The fear factor of the unknown,

it's just overwhelming.

Everywhere I go,
I'm starting to see

more and more signs of bears.

Oh, [bleep].

This is fresh.

This is fresh bear scat.

I mean, this is probably
20 to 30 minutes old.

I'm not sure.
Maybe a hour.

Um, I got to get out of here.

Y'all can have this [bleep].
I ain't made for bears.

I ain't made for them.
I'm good.

So I guess
I'm officially tapping.

I'm good.

♪

- Uh, I don't know; you were
talking a lot of bear smack

when we got to meet you
on the show the first time, man.

This is kind of their way
to get back at you, I think.

Of course.

I did talk a lot of smack,
and that's just,

you know, my upbringing.

You got to have confidence
in anything that you do in life,

so I'm showing confidence,
you know?

- What happened?
Take us through it.

- Uh, I was out there
a couple hours and, um...

started looking around
for a shelter.

I had a area I was gonna
build a shelter.

Every place I went
had bear scat everywhere.

Um, so I was gathering
firewood for a fire.

And I was cutting it
on the side,

and a bear came out the woods

and bluff-charged me.

And, I mean, I went all the way
back to the edge of

where the water was, so I didn't
stand there and walk.

I took off running...

[laughter]

To the edge of the water

and tried to signal for help
as soon as I could.

I was--I mean, I was terrified,
to be honest with you.

Yeah.

Biggest question is,
why didn't you tape it?

Where--how come
we didn't see that?

- I was pretty much focused
on trying to get that one--

get past that first day.

So a lot of the stuff--
I didn't tape a lot of it.

- I don't know if you read
the fine print in the contract,

but if you get eaten by a bear,
that has to be on film.

- Really?
- Has to.

[laughs]

- That's the whole point
of this show, Desmond.

- Well, I'm sorry
to disappoint.

I'm sorry to disappoint.

- No, but seriously
do you have any--

I think you're being pretty open
and honest with us.

Do you have any regrets
about how it went?

- I wish I would've had more
time to experience situations

like that of being around bears,
uh, to prepare me for it more.

I wouldn't have had a problem
staying out there.

It was just
that animal presence,

I've never dealt with that.

And in the battlefield,
I did all of that,

never had a problem
under pressure,

but having a large animal
charge you like that

was just something
I couldn't prepare for.

- Yeah.
- You know?

And, you know, to be honest
with you, I was scared.

I think that's fair.

We had a lot of reaction
in social media,

so let's go from one tweet from
a person named Jason Sellers.

He said, "Desmond was
only there for, like,

"seven minutes
before he tapped out.

I've taken longer naps."

[laughter]

How do you respond
to Jason Sellers saying that?

- Well, you know, Jason,
thank you for watching the show.

[laughter]

I mean,
what can you say?

What can you say about that,
you know?

I'm glad he watched the show.

Keep tuning in,
you know?

Don't bother me one bit.

People are gonna say things,
positive and negative, you know?

But if anybody's ever been
charged by a bear,

they know the feeling.

- You all had
experiences, right?

- Tracy?
- Oh, yes.

- Here's Tracy's face-to-face
encounter with her bears

at moment number nine.

[bear growling]

[leaves rustling]

Hey, hey, hey.

[bear growling]

Go on.

Twigs snapping.

♪

[bear huffing]

It's like a whining
and a huffing

and a really deep
huffing noise.

Sniffing right here
at the back of my head.

[bear growls]

[air horn blares]

Get on out of here!

Get!

♪

You heard me, get!

[air horn blares]

[air horn blares]

[bear growling]

Okay.

- I didn't do that, though.
I did not light off my flare.

[bear cub growling]

- Get the hell out of here.
I see you.

Get out of here!

Go on, get!

[bear growling]

Oh, man.

[bear cub cooing]

That is a cub.

♪

When I saw the little bear,
it just--this feeling of

remorse hit me.

[sniffles]

You know, I hate to do it,
but I'm gonna tap.

♪

- All right, so there's
a lot there.

Take me through
your range of emotions.

- You hear
the snapping of twigs,

and then you hear
the breathing

right beside your head.

And I mean deep breathing,
even deeper than Desmond.

[laughter]

The, uh--

the dynamic changes.

And my first thought was

scare 'em off with my voice.

I tried that.
That didn't work.

Went to the boat horn.
That didn't work.

Went to the flare, and at that
point, with the flare,

it's visual;
I had no choice.

And I really felt the animal
was bent on predation.

And when I went out,
I was locked eyes to eyes

with the mother
for about two minutes

before the cub
presented himself.

- Did you think--in those
moments when you're

staring her down, did you think
you were gonna be attacked?

I thought it was it,

the end of my mystery

right there.

- Wow.
- It was done.

How did you stay calm?

How did you keep it together
in that moment?

- I didn't understand
that animal's motivation

until I saw that cub.

And all it was was a mother
trying to protect her baby.

And that's when I understood.

And for me,
it just broke my heart.

Added everything up
and decided it was probably

my best interest to go ahead
and tap at that time.

The situation happened.

It happened the only way
that it could

that I could have
walked away from it.

Because a mother and a cub
is the most dangerous situation

that you can be in.

And, you know, I'm thankful
to be alive from it.

Wow.

Well, we've seen
two of the most

talked-about moments
from season two,

and we're only
getting started.

Day 31.

And the crazy
has already set in.

- Welcome back to the
"Alone" reunion special.

I'm Kevin Burkhardt,
and we are counting down

the ten most
talked-about moments

of season two with the cast.

[helicopter rotors whirring]

Plus, we're giving a sneak peek
of season three,

which is happening
in South America.

But first, we wanted
to spend a little time

with Mike and Justin,
talking about how they kept

from going crazy
all the days of being alone.

And it seemed like you guys
had to be active here.

You guys were busy making up
stuff to do, right?

That was the theme?

- Yeah, I don't think
Mike accomplished

not going crazy, but, um...

[laughter]

- Mike, it was really
unbelievable,

some of the stuff you built,

and it had people talking,
obviously.

Here are a few of your
many achievements, Mike.

Take a look
at moment number eight.

♪

My mind needs to stay busy.

I've got plans for my shelter.

And I want to build
the drying rack over the fire.

Now I'm gonna build
an elevated platform

for my kitchen fire.

I love these little kinds
of projects.

They give me something to do
to keep my mind occupied

so I can make it
for the long haul.

♪

It's a one-burner.

That's all I need, though.

Nice, indeed.

All right, all finished.

And I'm ready to wash up.

I built a hands-free,
foot operated,

gravity flow water faucet.

You know, the projects keep me
busy throughout the day,

and so time just flies by
because of that.

And so I'll need to keep
thinking of projects

in order to maintain
that feeling out here.

♪

I have achieved
moderninity here.

I just need Barbara.

- I don't know how you thought
of some of this stuff.

I mean,
the dice football game

was one of my
personal favorites.

I mean, did you
think about this before?

How did you come up
with all of this stuff?

- Half of it, I--
it just came out there

to me to do these things.

Uh, the other half,
I kind of had it in mind,

and we've only seen on TV
about half of the things

that I've done,
you know, out there.

So it really was all about
building, staying busy,

keeping my mind occupied.

Um...

missing Barbara was huge.

I--you know, there's just
no way around that.

And once I got to the end
of my project list

and I didn't think I wanted
to build anything else,

time to go home.

- Yeah, purpose.
Interesting, right?

And I think that goes to kind of
what we saw in the piece

with you, in that building the
gym, having something to do.

You know, "I'm gonna wake up
and lift weights,

get a workout in,
just to kill some time," right?

- Yeah, I mean, it's a big--
you know, like Mike was saying

about the mental aspect of it.

And I think we did completely
opposite, you know,

different things
but for the same reason.

So just having stuff
that kind of mentally equals

regular life for you,
you know, is huge.

- It worked,
and that wasn't

the only interesting
thing with you.

Well, there was a lot of things,
but, you know, you're a veteran.

You're working hard to create
support for veterans

that are, you know,
struggling to find their way

after they leave
the service.

And you applied your cause
to improving your situation

out there by having
something to focus on.

Here's what you did, Justin,
that got everybody talking.

Moment number seven.

Today is day 22.

Today is all about
doing something

for the 22 veterans a day
that commit suicide.

I'm gonna climb
this damn mountain.

♪

[bleep].

[groaning]

What I wanted to accomplish
out here was

to serve as some sort of
inspiration for the veterans

that are out there
that are struggling.

One wrong move here,
and I'm done.

♪

If I can summit this mountain,
maybe it will let

other veterans know
that it can get better.

I have officially gained
as much elevation...

♪

As I can on this mountain.

♪

Yeah!

I don't get too excited
about much,

but this is pretty awesome.

And to any of you guys
out there that are...

♪

That are struggling
to make that climb,

you know what I mean...

♪

You can do it.
You can.

♪

You can.

That was real.

Um, you're a veteran yourself,
so you know, okay?

So tell me
about your cause.

Did you think
about this going in,

or when you were on the island,
is that something

that struck you that,
"Hey, I'm gonna do this"?

- Yeah, absolutely--
I mean, I didn't think

about the mountain climb
until--

I think it was probably
about day 12.

You know, I didn't go into it--
I didn't know that

I was gonna have
a mountain behind me.

But I think the--you know,
the biggest thing was,

it was symbolic.

Um, you know, the struggles
that a lot of guys

and girls go through
every single day.

When you're serving in the
military, you have a purpose.

It's bigger than yourself.

You know, you can mentally
connect and say,

"I'm serving something
that's bigger than me."

And then when
the music's over,

you don't have that anymore.

And if you don't find it
somewhere else,

you know, a lot of people,
they struggle with

that sense of, you know,
just lack of purpose.

- If I could,
on the actual physicality

and the toughness of the hike,
that did not look easy.

- I mean,
it was super easy.

I just walked up there;
I was like,

"Oh, all right, done, cool."

- No--
- While filming it, by the way.

- Yeah, while filming,
and, you know, it was only

day 22, so I was well-rested,
you know, well-fed.

No, it absolutely was
a pain in the ass.

It's not about breaking
an ankle or, you know,

something like that anymore.

If I fall, I'm done.

- Well, listen,
as someone who watched it,

it was awesome.

And, uh, hey, Justin,
thanks again.

Randy couldn't be here today,
but the sixth

is one of Randy's,

and I think you'll all
remember this one.

Here is now moment number six.

Good morning.

It's another beautiful day
here in British Columbia.

Gonna walk down and...

gonna check my traps.

Nice.

A little mouse.

My first bit of meat
in 14 days.

♪

All right, well, let's cook up
our mousey-mouse here.

You don't need to spend too much
time skinning him or anything.

You just sort of peel
the singed hair off.

I'm super excited
to eat this right now.

You could just peel open the
stomach to take out the guts.

But I leave in, like,
the heart and the liver.

And I'll just throw him
directly on the coals there.

♪

Just let him cook.

Little leg.

♪

Mmm.

And that's the only bit
that's left.

♪

Just the teeth.

♪

Teeth are just too hard.

♪

Actually, no, they're fine.

All gone.

Even the teeth, Randy?

I don't know about that one.

I mean, Nicole,
did you not eat a slug?

Am I remembering
that correctly?

- I ate quite a few slugs,
actually.

You just cook 'em over the
coals till the slime falls off,

and actually, they're pretty
good once you gut 'em.

The head's okay.

Actually, the head...

head tastes fine.

A little salt would be nice.

- Larry, you also ate
a mouse like Randy,

but you took the hunt
to a whole different level.

And, um, everybody
was talking about it,

as a matter of fact,
as we take a look

at moment number five.

- If I can't get protein,
I'm not gonna be out here

for that long.

I got to start
catching some fish, man.

Some mice would be good.

So I think I'm gonna
set up some mousetraps.

♪

God, I hate mice.

Whenever you find one,
there's at least one more.

So I need to take care of 'em.

♪

So this is my first
successful setting

of a Paiute Deadfall.

Man, I'm excited about this.

I hope this works.

Hah!

♪

My Paiute Deadfall has sprung.

The mouse got away.

It's like me against him now,
and it's--now it's personal.

And there we have it.

I hope I crush this little
sucker's head tonight.

[laughter]

♪

Oh, my God,
I am so stoked.

I finally, finally,
finally caught

the effing mouse.

Just about ready to go in bed,
and I heard "ka-thunk."

I came out, fricking mouse
is under the rock.

Boom!
He fricking takes off.

He went into this hole,
and I just barely got his tail.

And then I took my knife and cut
his little fricking throat.

And he's right there.

[laughter]

- Well, you did catch
that sucker.

- Well, I tried to make
a pact with this mouse.

I mean, that sucker
crossed the line first.

And I hold a grudge,

um, in case you hadn't noticed.

And it was him or me,
and it was--

the odds were stacked
in my favor.

- So as far as your mood
swings, on a serious note,

what was the base of it?

Was it just frustration?

Was it being alone?

Was it hunger?

Why the mood swings
that we saw from you

more so than anybody else?

Um, 'cause I think...

a part of it, I think, was that
I really, truly felt alone.

Even when I turned on
the camera, I guess I--

you know, I knew that there was
gonna be a TV show made

about it, but I just opened up
to the camera, you know?

I just pretended like
it wasn't there, really.

Or, you know, the only thing
I really thought about it was,

"Oh, I want to make sure
I get this angle,"

or, "I want to make sure the
camera's correct," or whatever.

I didn't really think
to self-edit

like I probably should have.

And, I mean, I'm kind of
like that anyway.

I mean, if I go out into
the woods and I, you know,

trip and fall, I'm gonna cuss
and I'm gonna get up

and I'm gonna be like,
"You fricking bush," you know.

And then I'll move on, you know?

- It's not a big deal.
- Right.

- After that, the other
spectrum of my mood swings,

I think that it was primarily
calorie-driven, lack of food.

I would be sad during the day,
and I'd be like,

"Man, this place sucks,
this place is horrible,

and I'm hungry," you know?

Just, "God, would
one of these guys

tap out eventually," you know?

I mean, it just sucked,
and then I'd eat,

and I'd be like, "Wow,
you hear that bird chirping?

That's beautiful.
This place is awesome."

You know?

And then about two hours later,

I'm, like, hungry again,
you know?

Yeah.

- But it was directly
calorie-driven.

And then also,
looking back on it,

both of my areas
were semi north-facing,

so I didn't get
a lot of sunlight.

And I think that
the lack of vitamin D

definitely was playing
on me as well.

- As we go through this show,
it's obvious that

this has left a permanent mark
on all of you, right?

Well, you kind of take it
to the next level when--

that permanent mark,
'cause you actually have now

a permanent mark from your
experience on the island.

- You got a tattoo.
- Yes, I did.

- And it is
an unbelievable tattoo.

We're gonna show it to ya.

Tell me about this--
the decision that goes into it

and every detail of this
tattoo; it's big.

- Well, I had a lot of time
to think in my shelter,

and I've got
a few tattoos anyway,

and I've been wanting
another one.

But I never really had
something that

absolutely meant a ton
to me that I wanted

to make into a tattoo,
you know?

And I was just sitting in my
shelter--I don't remember

if it was night or when it was,
and I just thought,

"What--it would be really cool
if I could get a map

"of the island and then just
different items to go around it

that meant a lot to me
while I was out there."

And so it gave me something
to think about,

and I just totally thought
about every detail

that would go into that.

- The mouse is pretty big
on the tattoo, by the way.

- It was a big part
of being out there, man.

Big part of being out there.

- And you got it, when it was
all said and done.

- Thank you.
- That's great stuff.

- Got to go check
my gill net.

I'm guessing it'll be empty.

Holy crap.

Oh, my God,
it's big!

This fish is just too big.

Cutting the head off
really is the best idea.

I don't want
to keep it in misery.

Let me show you this
smorgasbord I've got going.

I've got salmon in the pan.

This fish that I have now,
I can keep just for a few days

and just keep eating off it.

It's another good day.

I'm gonna go check
my gill net.

Looks like we got something!

And it is alive and kicking.

Need to cut its backbone
is the main thing.

That's dinner,

I know many people may think
I'm weird to set the fish free,

but, you know, I could use
a new one tomorrow, but today

I'm still eating on the fish
I caught the other day.

You're good.

You are feisty--I'm glad.

- Welcome back to the "Alone"

as we are counting down the ten

from season two and revealing

the best never-before-seen
footage along the way.

As we say hello to Jose
and Nicole on the hot seat,

good to see you guys.

- Good to see you too.
- Same here.

- Well, it looked like
you were living

pretty large
out there, Nicole.

Everyone was talking about your
luck being on the salmon run.

So, obviously,
you had a lot of fish.

You were right--the gill net
was placed perfectly.

You're an expert
on medicinal plants,

and so you had that going in
in your back pocket.

What did you think
going in?

What were you thinking
about your diet

and what you were
gonna need to eat?

- My strategy going in
was, you know,

passive food is great, right?

It's really easy to get,
you know, things that you forage

off the ground or things
that you forage in the forest.

And I ended up eating over 25
species--different species

of food out there.

In addition, I also had a number
of plants that I used

for medicinal purposes.

So I probably used about
30-some-odd species out there.

And so that salmon is just
a small part of my overall diet.

- But it was huge, and there
were a lot of them.

- Yes.
- And Larry's angry about it.

[laughter]

Social media--not just your
friends messing with you here,

but social media,
here, we got this

from Christine McNalley,
tweeting,

"The salmon might
need to borrow

Nicole's cell phone
to tap out."

Did you think any--

[laughter]

Did you think any
of the others out there

were having the same
luck as you?

I mean, you were even
letting fish go.

And that's a good question:
did you stop to think

if they were having
the same luck?

Did you stop to think if they
were having the same issues?

- I assumed everyone
was doing the same as I was.

I really did.

I mean, I know there's a great
skill base here, right?

No question.

- And, of course,
I didn't know

what everyone had
at their particular site,

but they did try to site things
where everyone had different--

uh, different things
at their sites, so--

that they try to make it
fair in some way.

So the fact that I hit
a salmon run was, you know,

great blessing for me.

And I didn't know that
other people didn't have that.

We didn't know what
everyone else was doing.

Right.

Jose, the whole time,
all we did

was watch your venture

and how much you
wanted this salmon.

And that's what
got people talking.

Here it is now,
moment number three.

- I have to maximize
what the sea has.

The number one way to
maximize it is having a boat.

♪

[yelps]

[screams]

♪

Down you go.

Oh!

Oh. Oh.

♪

Right now,
I feel pretty weak.

I'm like an old, old man.

♪

Oh, I'm sorry, Shauna.

I'm sorry.

I tried.

♪

- Bummed out
watching that, man.

- You know, we felt for you.
- Oh, yeah.

- Basically, what made me
decide, it was that

I had my insulated boots on.

And I decided I could just
not dry these things

in any reasonable
amount of time.

It would've taken me, who knows,
like, two weeks to dry them.

That was a bit much.

I don't take a long time
to make decisions; I just go.

That's it,
so it's out out.

But I was really
bummed out, of course.

You know, on the spot,
I decided that I had to go.

Right.

So, okay, you made a quick
decision; we know that.

But then after the decision
was made, how crushing is it

that you've done all this
and you were in

a pretty good position,
and if that boat doesn't tip,

you're maybe still there?

- You know, the problem
was hypothermia.

But, really, what kept me
going there was my wife.

I decided that I really
wanted to try to go

as far as I could for her,

win, if possible.

And I really was really
basically bummed out for her,

'cause I wanted the change
of lifestyle for her.

I wanted her to stop working
and for us to go full-time

living in the bush, just
homesteading, hunting, fishing,

and gardening, and that
would have made it possible.

- You guys are something else,
I'll tell ya.

Well, we know now,
after talking to you,

the danger is certainly
real on "Alone."

Oh!

It's difficult, because I know
I could've lasted a lot longer

had it not been
for the accident.

I don't see any
hand parts anywhere.

♪

No blood either.

♪

Put that on.

I should've been cutting
kindling with it on there.

[laughs]

I would've had
a little better luck.

- Welcome back to the

after a trip to the hospital,
which we will

as you went back.

- I really just wanted to see
what was left undone

and what I could have done
better or what I did accomplish

out--you know,
after the fact,

after being away
for a couple days.

So it was good to go back.
It was really good.

I was happy they let me.

- Give you any kind of closure?
- Gave me lots of closure.

- It did?
- Yeah, it did.

- We should take a look
at what exactly got you

out of the competition
and got everybody talking,

as we take a look
at moment number two.

♪

Does it literally take everyone
else this long to start a fire?

Is it just me?

It must be just me.
It's got to be just--

People are living it.

Ugh.

That was a--
that's a nasty cut.

First things first,
how did you keep recording?

You're in pain.
You have this huge gash.

How did you keep
filming it?

I had two cameras rolling.

And when the accident happened,
there wasn't any pain.

So, initially, I was...

well, scared, you know?

Like, "What the heck
did I just do," you know.

So then the next step, for me,
was to obviously

hit the button
and get some help,

so take the camera with me.

I knew I was gonna be down
at the beach for probably

a while till they
got to me, so...

- How long were you
there waiting?

- An eternity,
it felt like.

- Oh, my goodness.
- I was frustrated.

But initially I thought, "Well,
they come in in the boat,

he could take a look, be done,
good-bye, see ya later."

So--but that wasn't really--

- Did you ask--
did you ask,

"Hey, is there any way
that I could stay?"

once they got there?

No, it was almost immediate.

Dan looked at it,
and he's like,

"Get on the boat."

And it was quick;
they immediately just

whisked me away.

- You didn't even have
time to think about it

once they got there;
they made the decision for you.

- No, right away.
Yup, right away.

- Did you realize that the cut
was as bad as it was?

Because Ox on Twitter says,
"Come on, Mary Kate,

"you had a fully equipped
medical kit.

At least give it a day or two
before pushing the button."

[laughter]

- There's a couple things here,
you know.

It's not just like
I cut my hand.

I couldn't--
my thumb wasn't working,

which means, obviously,
that something's wrong.

So, yes, I could have
field dressed myself, I'm sure,

if I had a sliver or didn't,
you know,

sever the tendon in my hand.

- Yeah, you had to go
to the emergency room.

This was no joke.

You had to get this
taken care of.

And this is Mary Kate
at the emergency room.

Let's take a look.

- Stupidest thing.
I know better.

I'm curious to see that, though.
I had it on video.

I had both cameras running.

I'm curious to see
how I cut that wood.

If I came down with the ax
or if the ax slipped off.

It's day seven!

That's my camp number too.

They're probably gonna give me
seven stitches too.

It's devastating, really.

To get this far and to get
everything prepped

and ready to go

and then just being stupid.

I'm extremely frustrated.

I feel, A, stupid,
B, frustrated,

and, C, extremely stupid.

- Well, that was just
your initial trip to kind of

patch it back together.

How serious was
the actual injury?

I snapped this tendon.

Well, you can't
see it on this hand,

so I snapped this tendon.

- And it went "jerp!"
- Wow.

- So they had to go
fishing for it.

- And--
- That was pretty exciting.

- I mean, how is it now?
- It doesn't go up and down.

So I can't go like this.

Well, I can touch all my...

Wow.

- And my grip's
a little bit weak.

- Yeah.
- Other than that...

- You could use it,
at least.

I can use it.

- Did you think it would be
something like this

that would take you out?

Of all the things that you
thought of, I'm sure,

going into this, did you think
it could be something like this?

No.

I didn't know, you know?

But that is what upsets me
most about it all

is because I really
wanted to know

what my breaking point
was going to be.

So--and I never got
to figure that out.

Never got the chance.

We're obviously glad
that you are okay.

I mean, wow.

I mean,
what does it feel like?

You did it, and, you know,
you outlasted

all of these amazing people.

- It's just
a surreal moment for me.

I had been holding myself
in this thing,

thinking, "Okay, I just got
to stay one more day,

just keep going, keep going,
keep going."

And then all of a sudden,
to have someone just come

and just take me out
of that suddenly

and just say,
"No, you're done.

You don't have
to do that anymore."

And, uh, all the things
I'd been anticipating,

just suddenly,
just out of it.

- What a moment.
And here it is.

You, the fans, said it.

The number one
most talked-about moment

from this season of "Alone."

♪

- You know,
heading into day 70,

and I feel like
I could keep going.

You know, somebody said to me
right before I left,

"Boy, 50 doesn't
slow you down at all."

And I'm like, "Yeah, baby."

[tree branch cracking]

♪

Oh!

[crying]

♪

I did this for you guys.

You know that, right?

I know.

♪

[helicopter engine whirring]

♪

I'm ready to go home.

Yes, we get to ride
in a helicopter!

Wow.

You saw your daughter--

- I need a second here,
seriously.

Yeah.

- And I--oh, the emotion
of that moment is just amazing.

It's indescribable.

I--honestly,
I don't know how to describe

the emotion of that moment.

When I turned around
and saw Erin standing there,

and everything just
all of a sudden--

all that tension,
all that difficulty, all that...

it just went away.

I loved my time
on the island.

I can't say that enough.

But at the same time,
that moment was like waking up

from a bad dream.

You know?
It was a hard dream.

A really cool, intense,
hard dream.

And all of a sudden,
waking up and realizing,

"Wow, I get to go back to--
I get to see my kids again."

- If you were forced
to stay there longer,

how much longer
could you have gone?

- I knew I was coming
into a bad tide cycle,

where it was gonna be
hard to fish,

and I was living at this point
exclusively by fishing.

Um, psychologically, I knew
that Christmas was gonna be

a huge barrier.

I did not even want
to think about Christmas.

Thanksgiving, I wrote off;
I knew, "Okay, I'm out here

"for Thanksgiving;
I'm gonna miss that big feast

and everything
and miss my kids."

And I--when I would
think about Christmas,

I would just say, "Okay, I'm not
gonna live that pain

"from a month from now
in this right now,

which is really kind of okay."

Two weeks without
even batting an eye.

Day 80, no problem.

Christmas was gonna be
a barrier for me.

- That was gonna
be interesting.

Yeah.

- You know, you guys
are all amazing

and all had different
experiences here.

So hearing Dave's story
and watching him

come out on top,
what are your thoughts?

What are you thinking right now,
as we've all shared

all of your stories,
you know,

and gotten pretty
personal here?

- Well-deserved.
- Yeah.

- Yeah.
- Yeah, good job.

- It's not a feeling of
a competition amongst us here.

It's more family,
if you will.

Uh, so whoever would have won,

I think we would've,
you know...

wished 'em well.

And, you know, he's a great man,
has a great family.

He's gonna do good things
with it, so well-deserved.

- I was really hoping
that Dave would win, because,

from the very beginning,
he says, "If I win,

I'm gonna take care
of all of you."

[laughter]

- And so--
- I got you all here, right?

I got you all together.
That was part of our deal.

Remember we said,
"Whoever wins this thing,

we've got to get everybody
together," right?

Remember that?

I remember Justin
talking about that.

You're all here.

- And as someone
who watched it all unfold,

it was pretty cool to watch.

Dave, congrats on the win.
