The Curse of Oak Island...

We are definitely
drilling in the right spot.

There's a big, whopping bunch
of metal. I want to hit it.

Under this castle
is a dungeon where we found

- Templar symbolism.
- Perhaps there are answers down below.

This symbol here, I've
seen in Templar prisons before.

It's a Viking sail.

When this cone is rolled over,

we should be finding
something medieval.

I'm just trying to figure
out how this made its way

underneath the boulder.

That doesn't happen naturally.

This is astounding.

There is an
island in the North Atlantic

where people have
been looking for

an incredible treasure
for more than 200 years.

So far, they have
found a stone slab

with strange symbols
carved into it...

man-made workings
that date to medieval times,

and a lead cross whose
origin may be connected

to the Knights Templar.

To date, six men have died

trying to solve the mystery.

And according to legend,
one more will have to die

before the treasure
can be found.

Well, Marty, we started
drilling, we got to the bottom,

there was nothing but in
situ material, unfortunately.

As a new
day begins on Oak Island,

members of the team

remain determined
to brave not only

the chill of the fall season
but also a major setback

that recently took place
in the Money Pit area

in the hopes of making
a breakthrough discovery

that could finally solve
a 229-year-old mystery.

Nothing to write
home about at all.

- Sorry... sorry to inform.
- No, that's okay.

- All data's good data.
- That's right.

Three weeks ago, the team began

a horizontal
probe-drilling operation

some 106 feet deep

at the bottom of
the Garden Shaft

to explore a mysterious
seven-foot-high tunnel.

A tunnel that runs due west

into an area dubbed
the "Baby Blob,"

where water testing has revealed

high-trace evidence
of gold and silver

between 80 and
120 feet underground.

However, salt water

suddenly rushed in
and flooded the shaft...

leaving the team to wonder

if they encountered one of
the legendary booby traps

believed to be
connected to the ocean.

We are definitely
drilling in the right spot.

This is where the
scientists tell us

there's a big, whopping
bunch of metal.

So, I want to hit it.

- Yeah.
- This next one, we're gonna call it

the "Bravo Well," because...

I am hoping it leads to Tango.

are about to begin
drilling a new borehole

known as Bravo-1
near the Baby Blob,

in the hopes of
pinpointing the high source

of precious metals
that may be buried

more than 80 feet below ground.

All the indications are
leading us into this position,

so, I'm looking forward
to this-this next hole.

As the operations continue

in the Money Pit area,

over on Lot 5,

located on the western
side of the island...

Whoa, you guys are deep.

- Hi. -Hi.
- Hello.

Marty is joined by Jack Begley

where archaeologists Helen
Sheldon and Moya MacDonald

are investigating a
rectangular stone foundation.

It just keeps
getting deeper, Marty.

- Yeah.
- It's never-ending, this hole.

Although the team has found

a number of
18th-century artifacts

near the surface of this feature

since they first
acquired Lot 5 in 2022,

as they have dug deeper,
evidence has been unearthed

suggesting that it
could be much older,

including an iron spike
that may date back

as much as eight centuries.

I was doing the final scrape
over this orangey soil...

Because you have to make sure it's subsoil.

- Yeah.
- And I got big chunks of creamware coming out.

- Really?
- Yeah.

Like half bowls.
Yeah, a ton of stuff.

- So, we said, "This isn't subsoil."
- Right.

Subsoil refers
to a natural layer of earth

that would be undisturbed
by human activity.

Because archaeologist
Helen Sheldon

has just found
fragments of pottery

in the soil layer that
she is investigating,

that means the team
has not yet reached

the bottom of the foundation.

- And what's that?
- Here we have this blob,

basically, of a much harder clay

with this rectangle in it.

It almost looks like blue-gray
till from the Money Pit.

Yeah, it does. It's similar.

Maybe the clay was put
there as more of a solid base.

The clay found in that feature

matches the clay
found 50 feet down

in the Money Pit in the 1800s.

That is highly significant.

If this is deep
Money Pit material,

well, there's got
to be a connection

to these two features on Lot 5.

This could be
related to depositors.

- Yeah.
- Could Jack be correct

that the team has
found more evidence

that the features on
Lot 5 may be connected

to an operation to bury
valuables in the Money Pit area?

If so, what might they find as
they continue to dig deeper?

I guess I'm pleased that
there's more to be found here.

more than 3,200 miles to
the east in the Netherlands...

Right, guys. Welcome
to the Castle of Valkenburg,

one of the mightiest strongholds

in the Middle Ages
here in this region.

Rick Lagina,
his nephews Alex and Peter,

along with Doug Crowell
and Emiliano Sacchetti

are meeting with
author Corjan Mol

and historian Jacquo Silvertant

at a 12th-century fortress
known as Valkenburg Castle.

The lords of
Valkenburg had relations

with both the French
and the German kings,

so they were very powerful.

You see the Templar cross?

- Yeah.
- One week ago,

Rick and the team began
their journey in Morimondo, Italy,

to investigate the theory

that as early as
the 12th century,

the medieval order
of the Knights Templar

conspired with members
of the Viking culture

to smuggle sacred
religious treasures

across Europe before
transporting them to Oak Island.

And while visiting
sites in Italy...

I see a four-dot cross.

As well as outside the city

of Maastricht in
the Netherlands...

On the other side
here, circle and dot.

Yep.

Over here. Four-dot cross.

That's remarkable.

They were
shown numerous carved symbols

that have also been found
over the years on Oak Island.

Maybe they took
their treasure here

on their way up north.

Now, in light
of several new discoveries

on Oak Island,
including three artifacts

whose origins have been
traced to Scandinavia,

Corjan and Jacquo have
arranged for Rick and the team

to explore Valkenburg
Castle where they believe

more evidence of a
Templar/Viking alliance

is waiting to be revealed.

Under this castle is a
dungeon I'm gonna show you,

where a couple of years
ago, we found loads

of inscriptions that relate
to Templar symbolism.

The lords of Valkenburg

probably were involved
in arresting and,

keeping, Templar
Knights in their dungeon.

So, it might have been
refugees that they picked up.

As they fled.

- Perhaps there are answers down below.

In 1307,

King Philip IV of France

and Pope Clement V

dissolved and prosecuted
the Templar order

on charges of heresy.

However, some believe

that the true purpose was to
obtain the priceless treasures

that they may have
found in the Holy Land

during the
12th-century Crusades,

including the golden menorah

that once stood in
King Solomon's Temple,

and the Ark of the Covenant.

Hundreds of Templar Knights
were arrested and executed

in prisons across Europe
such as Valkenburg Castle.

However, many
others eluded capture

and their sacred treasures
have never been found.

Each of us in our own way

are trying to make these

very positive connections

between what we're seeing
and doing in the Old World

and how it may relate to
Oak Island and the mystery.

under the Castle of Valkenburg.

Our interest goes
to these engravings

on this 14th-century, wall.

If you look carefully,

there is a four-dot cross here,

- like you see.

We seem to see
these four-dot crosses

in a lot of places.

We've seen it on the H+O Stone,

on Oak Island.

And we've seen it,
actually, throughout Europe.

It's much more significant to us

because we're kind of seeing
it crop up all along this trail

that we're chasing of
the Knights Templar.

- Could this be a goose paw?
- ! No way.

That is a goose paw.

Remember when we saw
this symbol in Nova Scotia?

Yeah.

At Valkenburg Castle,

a 12th-century fortress
in the Netherlands

that once held prisoners

connected to the
Knights Templar,

Rick Lagina and members

of the Oak Island team
have just discovered

a potentially important clue.

But I mean,

but a goose paw here...

I got goosebumps.

That is the, the
mark of the Masons

for the Knights Templar.

Incredible.

In 2022,

Corjan Mol showed Rick
and members of the team

a so-called goose paw,

that in addition
to other symbols

that are related to
the Templar Order,

was carved into
the rocky shoreline

in Liverpool, Nova Scotia,

just 50 miles
southwest of Oak Island.

That's-that's just crazy.

This symbol here

I've seen in Templar
prisons before.

Really?

I can see.

Yeah, I can see what
you're pointing out.

I mean,

they are one of our
primary suspects this year...

Just because of the convergence

of so many 1200s dates.

of what may be
depicting a Viking sail?

There's been thoughts that
this is a Templar treasure

on Oak Island, right?

We know the
suppression happened.

- We know they had motivation

to maybe take
something to a sanctuary

far away from the troubles.

But how did they get there?

How did they know
about the New World?

Yep.

So Templars used Vikings

for transportation to come

to a promised land...

North America.

Earlier this year,

retired professor of
psychology Dr. Doug Symons

presented the team with
his published research

detailing how the
Scandinavian Viking culture,

which is known to have
explored regions of North America

more than 1,000 years ago,

intermingled with
the Templar Order

during the 12th-century Crusades

and may have helped them

navigate across
the Atlantic Ocean

in order to hide
their sacred treasures

on Oak Island.

This might be a
clue that there's a link

between Templar
and Viking technology.

Is it possible that Corjan has

just found more evidence
in Valkenburg Castle

that supports
Dr. Symons' theory?

That's a boat with two masts.

If so, could that
explain not only the artifacts

and structures
discovered on Oak Island

that may be related
to the Templar Order

but also those that were

scientifically traced
to Scandinavia?

If there are Templar carvings
in this dungeon prison,

to me, that supports the idea
that they did flee to the north.

- Yeah.
- Which-which is exactly

- what we suspected may have happened.

And they traveled through lands

where they didn't
have any holdings

so people wouldn't
be looking for them.

There was a need
for refuge, safe refuge.

So, where are you going to go?

You're going to go
to the New World.

You have to cross the Atlantic.

So what we are
chasing now is that

east to west
voyage possibilities.

Did the Norse really have
the command of the oceans,

such that the Templars
could rely on them?

They went a more practical way

up north using the
highway of the Middle Ages...

If Professor Gaspani is right,

when this cone is rolled over,

we should be finding
something medieval.

In light of the research

of Italian
archeoastronomy expert

Professor Adriano Gaspani,
who believes that members

of the Templar Order
created Nolan's Cross

some eight centuries ago,

Marty has secured
special permission

from fellow landowner Tom Nolan

to lift Cone E in order
to search for clues

that might help prove

that this incredible
theory is true.

If we can get it straight up,

- that's the ideal situation.
- Right.

You know, so we
don't disturb what might be

underneath it.

- Yeah.

Cone E has never
been moved, to our understanding.

If we pick it directly up
and then get an expert

like Dr. Ian Spooner
to look underneath it...

I believe we have
a really good chance

of finding organic material.

Might need another

Then we can analyze the samples

and be definitive

as to whether it was placed
by people or by the glaciers.

If there's something
man-made under it,

then that's even
more definitive.

I want to see what's
under that stone.

It's like an iceberg. Most
of it was underground.

There were two reasons why

the-the Knights Templar
came to this island.

One of them was that they had

how far it was to

sailing, east-west.

According to Erling's research,

Nylars Church was one of
the locations in Scandinavia

where members
of the Viking culture

helped the Templars
prepare to transport

their sacred treasures
across the Atlantic Ocean

in order to hide
them on Oak Island

approximately

an Old World treasure,

Old World mystery that
travels from east to west.

It's beautiful.

So, now we are in the land

of the Norse.

We hope to make
some direct connections

between the Norse
and the Templars.

And one of the ways
in which to do that

might be at this very church.

are these actual rune stones?

They are rune stones,

and they were found
here close to the church

and then put into
the church later.

Rune stones on this
island, they are all connected

- to Christianity.

Dating back to
as early as the fourth century,

the Norse culture carved
symbols known as runes

into raised stones and boulders

throughout
Scandinavia and beyond

for various
commemorative purposes

such as honoring the
dead, religious worship

and to mark new territory.

Look at how many of those runes

match the 90 Foot Stone.

Quite a few on there, actually.

Wow.

Runes found

at a believed Templar

which was discovered in
the Money Pit back in 1804?

First documented by members
of the Onslow Company,

the 90 Foot Stone,
which was lost

in the early 20th century,

was described as
Swedish porphyry,

which is a type of igneous
rock with an olive-green color.

And upon its removal
from the Money Pit,

seawater began
flooding the shaft,

which has thwarted
everyone since then...

Including the Laginas... when
attempts have been made

to dig below that
depth for whatever

may lie buried in the area.

I've got a

looks like the shape
of a Templar cross.

And that's what might
be reflected right there.

If you recall, the description
of the 90 Foot Stone

is very interesting,
also, because it says,

"Swedish porphyry,
olive-green tinge."

It's close.

They come close.

Look at that stone right there.

The early descriptions
of the 90 Foot Stone

c-certainly fits what we're
seeing here at Nylars.

What it says to me is,

"Within these runes
might be a connection

to help us understand
the Oak Island mystery."

It's a remarkable journey

but it continues to get
even more remarkable.

On the island
of Bornholm in Denmark,

Rick Lagina, along
with other members

of the Oak Island team,

are meeting with
local researcher

and historian Jeanne Cordua
at a site known as Madsebakke,

a massive rock
face that features

hundreds of ancient carvings
known as petroglyphs.

So,

what we are going to see
is about 3,000 years old,

dating back to the
Scandinavian Bronze Age.

- Wow.
- What is the,

archaeological thought
for these carvings?

Were they made by
the people of Bornholm?

I am sure they
were made by the local people.

And the rock carvings...

they were sacred.

While historians believe

that many of the
petroglyphs at Madsebakke

were created for
religious purposes

as much as 3,500 years ago,

some of the carvings are
thought to depict navigational tools

and were created to align
with stars in the night sky.

It is researcher
Corjan Mol's belief

that between the 12th
and 13th centuries,

members of the Viking
culture and the Knights Templar

may have studied
these very carvings

in order to journey across
the Atlantic Ocean together

in order to hide sacred
treasures on Oak Island.

And the large one you're
going to see up here,

well, you can call it a-a
compass from the Bronze Age.

You will find north.

And it points to, sunrise

at winter solstice and
sunset at winter solstice.

Norse mariners,
they could, of course,

use this, knowledge,

so that they could travel
these immense distances.

They had some, devices.

It's quite transparent,
translucent.

The, sunstone.

- Yeah, sunstone. Yes, indeed.
- Sunstone.

According to
13th-century Icelandic records,

a sunstone is a
translucent mineral block

that Viking mariners used

in order to navigate
on the high seas,

as it would allow
them to track the sun

through fog or overcast weather.

I think you should go over here

to look at the-the
large wheel cross

with the cup marks around
it and the four little dots,

signifying sunrise
and sunset at the solstices.

It's also like a-a Bronze
Age compass, if you want.

- So, please.
- Okay.

Is this it?

Yeah.

- It's impressive.
- Wow. Look at that.

Wow. That is exactly
what we've been seeing.

Pretty identical.

If that isn't a
four-dot cross...

3,000 years old.

Could the team be correct

that this Bronze Age petroglyph
of an astronomical compass

might also represent
a four-dot cross,

a symbol that they
have not only seen

at numerous Templar
strongholds across Europe

but also on the
so-called H+O Stone

that was found on Oak
Island back in the 1920s?

You know, I
think the puzzle just got

more complicated in some
way, because we have a new use

for the four-dot cross, right?

As a compass.

This is so old.

It would make the four-dot cross

pre-Christianity.

I think, because we find

the four-dot cross
representation everywhere

here in the Old World,

I think it needs more study.

What cultures assimilated it?

Were they specific
to certain societies

or organizations
like the Templars?

- A lot more study.
- There is, also,

little deep potholes
that should depict,

perhaps, the Hyades,

part of the
constellation of Orion.

That looks like five stone piles

in the shape of the Hyades.

Earlier this year,

Italian archaeoastronomer
Adriano Gaspani

shared research with
the team suggesting

that the five stone
piles, or cairns,

which were discovered
on Oak Island in the 1960s

were created
according to alignments

with a star cluster
known as Hyades

by members of the Templar
Order in the 13 century.

I have the picture
here of the stone cairns.

I'd say it's almost identical.

- That's just uncanny. Looks pretty close.
- Looks pretty identical.

Is it possible that the team

has just found the inspiration

for that megalithic formation
more than 3,400 miles away

at Madsebakke?

It's a cross-fertilization
of cultures, right?

Using this old knowledge.

In that sense, this is...
This is a fantastic place

where a lot of lines
come together, literally.

Well, it's
cross-cultural assimilation

and the Templars were

one of the most
astute at doing that.

We just have to figure
out the relationship.

the Ladby Viking Museum

is located on the burial
site of the King of Ladby,

who died in 925 AD,

and was buried within a
70-foot-long Viking ship.

proving more potential connections

between the Vikings and
the Oak Island mystery,

Rick and Doug have
brought a picture

of a believed
medieval crossbow bolt

that was found on Oak
Island back in the 1960s

by the late Robert Dunfield.

As it turns out, we have
something we would like to show

that's currently being
conserved and tested.

It's a real, interesting item

and may have a story to tell.

has just given her assessment
that an iron arrowhead,

which was found on Oak
Island nearly 60 years ago,

could be of Viking origin.

This is very
quintessentially the way

that they made these
artifacts in the Viking age.

they come in around the
beginning of the Viking age,

so we're talking about 800
we see this particular point.

And then it goes on
throughout the Viking age

and stops somewhere
around the middle

of the medieval period.

So, this is pre-1300.

So, this could have been
used through the 1200s?

- It could, yes. Yeah.

So, the Vikings
were very keen archers,

both in war times
and for hunting.

So, this to me is
absolutely something

that belongs to a Nordic

or a Norse, sort
of way of doing it.

If Ane's assessment

of this arrowhead is correct,

could that help explain

who created the megalithic
structures on the island

such as the stone
piles on Lot 15

and Nolan's Cross,
which are believed

to date back to
approximately 1200 AD?

Would it account for the other
artifacts the team has found,

which have been scientifically
traced to Scandinavia?

And finally, does it
offer more evidence

to support Dr. Doug
Symons' theory

that Vikings assisted
members of the Knights Templar

in transporting their
sacred treasures

across the Atlantic
Ocean to Oak Island

as much as 800 years ago?

Earlier this morning,

archaeometallurgist
Emma Culligan

scanned the mysterious substance

using an X-ray diffraction
device... or XRD...

Which uses X-rays to determine

the chemical composition and
physical properties of minerals.

So, majority is, there's
a lot of quartz in it,

which is not surprising.

There's a lot of
albite, muscovite.

There's chlorite
serpentine, which again,

is another form of chlorite.

I-I see a lot of clay-esque
type of material.

Yep. Yep.

I'm not seeing
anything too unusual

- with the clay composition.
- Okay.

So, I was
photographing the sample

at kind of a microscopic level.

I noticed that there's
a hair embedded in it.

In the Oak Island Laboratory,

archaeologist Laird Niven

has just revealed
that hair of some kind

has been found embedded

within the cement-like substance

that was discovered
beneath a boulder

known as Cone
E in Nolan's Cross.

That doesn't happen
naturally, right?

No, that's impossible.

But then...
I'm just trying

to figure out how this made
its way underneath the boulder.

A 60-ton boulder.

I don't want any unknowns.

Now, we have some evidence
that Cone E was placed.

But, who did it?

Maybe, finally, we're
going to figure that out.

Well, this is astounding.

This is... at this
point, inexplicable.

Yes.

Okay.

It's an enigma
that I can't explain.

It's like every bloody
else thing here, you know?

It's odd, it's weird,
it's inexplicable,

at the present.

And we arrive at the same place.

We need more data.
But you know what?

It could be very meaningful.

Laird doesn't know what it is.

Terry doesn't know what it is.

And so I'm putting that in

the just "I don't know
what that is" category

for right now.

And so, we need to test it

because it's
definitely anomalous.

Can we do a DNA test?

Scanning electron microscope.

rock here does mean something.

But I believe, I
really do believe

this one is super important.

We need to get it tested
and see what it means.

Could this actually
be from a human?

trying to figure out.
