In my home, I have trained attack dogs.

This guy would have broken in my house,

my dogs might have killed him.

So this is my buddy Kar.

For the last two decades or more,

I've been working and training German Shepherds.

When I'm home, I can protect my family very well.

But when I'm gone, I really look to them

to guard the fort.

I've been interested in dogs since I was a little boy.

I probably had my first dog at about age eight.

And then I started training them for protection

In my early teens.

I love Kar so much and love having him around.

I figured he could use company

and I might enjoy having two of them,

So I got Frankie.

So this dog, I just got him a few days ago.

He comes from Eastern Europe, and there

his owner had trained him to be aggressive towards everybody.

He was not friendly.

He kind of wanted to eat everybody.

So it's gonna be a real challenge

to get him to work with Kar.

Oh, jealousy.

Because they're alpha males

and they both want to be top dogs,

I have one of my best friends who's a great trainer

coming in today to help out.

- The first session,

we'll just start out with a few really basic exercises.

I think it should be fun

and probably a little... a little chaotic.

- So second trainer's gonna agitate the dogs

and get them all riled up

to see if they'll still listen to my commands.

- Okay, and now turn them on.

That's how fired up they get, boy.

They want some.

We had them kind of turn on each other for a quick second.

I think maybe we should take a little break.

- Okay, we'll do muzzle next, but we'll wait a minute.

Feels like a dangerous situation.

As strong as I am, I'm having a hard time

keeping these guys from trying to kill each other.

And, unfortunately, training has got a long way to go.

- Okay, so we're going to do muzzle attacks now.

And, you know, we now know where the holes are.

A lot of things need to be improved.

Telling them to turn off,

you need to say it over and over and over again,

and still they didn't turn off.

- With dogs like these, the most important thing

Is to make them obey your commands.

When I tell them to stop biting and come back to me,

they got to work on that.

And if they don't do that, you're going

to have a big problem, because they're dangerous.

We're trying to hit all the main troubled areas.

Just a lot, a lot of narcotics slinging

and stolen property, murder.

But we need to be that way to keep the community safe.

The dog did a preliminary search of the vehicle,

Wasn't able to locate anything.

They said it did a small alert, something real weak,

which is saying the presence of it.

Maybe it was in there in the past, but nothing strong.

So they probably either had it in their pocket

and the residue drifted on the seat,

or it might have been from rolling a marijuana cigarette.

that the gentleman who was lying about his identity

did have outstanding warrants.

I recently got another dog

who's also well-trained for protection.

First time I trained them together,

it didn't really work out, so we're back here again

trying to do it all over again

To see if I can make them work together better.

Not looking at the dogs, but looking at Steven,

yelling at Steven.

- Today we're going to just do

some basic maneuvers with the dogs.

- You're gonna be yelling back at him and...

It's really important to get these dogs

to work as a team, because when I'm not around,

I need them to be able to protect the family and the home.

- Hey, what are you doing with those dogs?

This is an exercise where we tell them, "guard the house.

"anything that's outside trying to get in,

Don't let it in."

And we're going to start that right now.

Most people wouldn't want a piece of that.

In this situation, we're going to create

a violent attack scenario

to make the dogs believe that it's real.

So now he's going to come up to attack me,

and I'm going to let them defend me.

And I'm going to get to the mix

and pretend like I'm fighting with Donnie,

but I'm really not going to hurt Donnie.

Okay, everybody ready?

- Back them up.

- Handlers have been bitten by their own dogs

because the dogs are used to attacking the aggressor,

and suddenly you've got the handler being aggressive.

So I want to make sure that both dogs know

that Steven's not going to just stand there,

and they have to be prepared for that.

I think it's amazing what they're doing.

I feel like Frankie gets along with Kar very well

and responded to me.

And, hopefully, we'll never need them to track anybody

or go into the field or anything.

They're just my best friends.

And, God forbid, if there's ever a burglar

and I'm not home

they'll defend my family as best they can.
