[Episode 5]

Official Pan. Why are you taking me here?

Do you still want to pretend?

What do you mean? I don't understand.

Does this place seem familiar to you?

The carriage passed through here before going to Sunrise Garden.

Why is that so?

I fell sick and can't remember anything.

Don't play dumb with me.

I want the truth.

I have been telling the truth. But you never trusted me.

Fine, let's say you can't remember.

Let me refresh your memory.

Did you abduct Yang Caiwei from the Coffin House,

and bring her here to kill her?

Turns out he only knows that Shangguan Zhi abducted me.

He doesn't suspect my identity.

Yes. I admit that I abducted Miss Yang in the heat of the moment.

But she ran off and married you.

Do you want to settle the scores with me now?

Yes, she did run away.

So you followed her to Sunrise Garden, sneaked into Flower Tower and pushed her down.

I didn't.

How do you explain this, then?

I found it on Yang Caiwei's body.

Does it jog your memory, Miss Shangguan?

Since Shangguan Zhi intended to use my identity, why did she keep this?

You got me drunk to read the case file,

because you are scared that you might have left something behind at the crime scene, right?

- I was only concerned about Miss Yang's case. - Shangguan Zhi.

Tell me the truth, or you are not leaving here alive.

Pan Yue. What exactly do you want?

Pay blood for blood.

Fine.

Are you insane?

Didn't you say you want to take my life?

I know

you are suspecting me, and I can't prove myself.

Take a look yourself.

[Shangguan]

These are my henchmen.

Before heading to the Coffin House, I had planned

to leave Miss Yang alone in this abandoned mine pit.

I was trying to scare her off from approaching you.

Unexpectedly, a bunch of bandits followed us, and snatched our things.

They even pushed us into the pit.

Fortunately, branches were preventing us from falling to our deaths.

Then, we climbed out of the pit.

I asked her to drive the carriage and leave. I collapsed halfway from exhaustion.

I doubt you would be so kind.

I thought you two hadn't met each other for ten years, and had grown apart.

But after hearing what she said, I realized that the bond between you two runs so deeply.

Which makes my one-sided affection seem rather insignificant.

I know I couldn't change anything.

So I decided to let go of my obsession, and gave her the marriage fortune stick.

I wished that you'd both be happy together.

What did she tell you?

She said

when the Yang family ran into problems, she went to you, but was shut out.

Then, she ended up living on the streets in Heyang.

Besides, she was insulted and mocked because of the scar on her face.

She began to believe that dead people are more reliable than the living.

She used to think that you both had already grown apart.

But she didn't expect you to come to Heyang for her after ten years.

Turns out it was just a misunderstanding.

She believed you, and truly wanted to marry you.

♫ I'm left with nothing but feigning indifference ♫

♫ When I'm tracing the outline of your face ♫

♫ Everything converges and disperses like sand ♫

You told her she is the only woman you want to marry in this lifetime no matter what.

Whether it's 10 years ago

or 10 years from now,

you're the only person I want to marry in this lifetime.

♫ I will always know the person I cherished the most ♫

♫ Even if you are close by, yet as distant as the horizon ♫

The coachman will take you back.

♫ I want to hold you, but I can only feign ignorance ♫

[Heyang's Soup and Flatbread | Baked Flatbread | Tea]

[Spring Arrival Inn | Always Favorable Grocery]

Xiao Bao. Young Master Zhuo of Silver Rain Terrace is here. We should go now.

Come here and let me have a look.

Young Master wants you there.

Why are you afraid of me?

People said the young master of Silver Rain Terrace eats people.

- Come closer and let me have a taste of you. - Please spare us.

What a killjoy.

While you were away for the past month, Heyang has changed tremendously.

I know.

Pan Yue is on bad terms with the other three clans.

Pan Yue demands 400,000 taels of silver because he intends to make it hard on us.

House Master Cai and the rest are going to do something to Pan Yue.

They want to physical again? How boring.

Inform the other three clans that Pan Yue is ours now.

I'm going to destroy him

and kick him out of Heyang.

Sister.

Slow down.

He is inside.

All right.

Give me the money first.

Let's go.

Master. It is me.

You...

If middle fingers are pinched, the victim died in the hours of Zi, Wu, Mao, or You.

If the hands are open, they died in the hours of Chen, Xu, Chou, or Mo.

If the fists are clenched, they died in the hours of Yin, Shen, Si, or Hai.

This is how you determine the time of death.

Girl.

Master.

I thought I would never see you again.

Girl.

Girl, you...

Your face has changed.

How are you?

I'm not used to it yet.

I don't dare to put a mirror beside my bed.

I'm afraid I will scare myself if I wake up at midnight.

Sometimes I will remember my face with blood all over,

and I'll think that it's not Shangguan Zhi who died but me.

Girl.

It has been a tough time for you.

It's nothing for me. I'm just worried that I might get you involved.

Master. Where have you been for the past month?

What has happened to the Coffin House?

On the night of your wedding, a masked man tried to kill me.

Luckily, I took the medicine, and regained consciousness.

I managed to escape from the Coffin House before he noticed me.

Did you see his face?

I couldn't.

But that person was wearing the groom's gown.

Pan Yue is indeed cruel. He even wanted to kill you.

Girl. Are you safe with him?

He did suspect me. But I'm safe for the time being.

So I can focus on investigating him now.

Good. What is your plan?

I need to find Shangguan Zhi's body and examine it.

Perhaps I might find evidence against him.

All right. You ought to be careful.

Keep yourself safe no matter what. Understand?

Yes.

You also need to be careful. Don't leave the city if possible.

Just stay here to recuperate.

I will. Don't worry about me.

Oh, right.

Thank you, Master.

Stop the carriage.

- Go and check on the horse harness. - Yes.

I must reclaim my identity as Yang Caiwei as soon as possible.

[Edify through music and ritual]

Young Master Pan.

Do you think Miss Shangguan will come after you wronged her yesterday?

Did I ask her that?

Ling'er. Is Miss Shangguan moving out of here?

Of course not.

I'm here to serve the people. How could I withdraw before I contribute anything?

It's just that I want to keep my distance from Official Pan, so as not to annoy him.

- Shangguan Zhi. - Yes

Copy this scroll.

Yes. [Hunter Qiao Chong Case]

Official Pan.

Official Pan!

This is bad! Someone reports a case.

Constable Liu.

This is the county office. Do you expect people to come for tea instead of reporting a case?

But... But the one reporting is from Silver Rain Terrace!

[Heyang Magistrate's Office]

Isn't he the great hall master of Silver Rain Terrace?Let's go and check it out.

- What is he doing in the county office? - Come on. Let's go.

- Let's have a look. - Why does he come here?

- This is the county office. - Hurry on. Let's check it out.

What does Silver Rain Terrace want to do? [Court]

- It is terrifying. - Let me see. Make way.

Move aside.

I, Sun Zhen, would like to report a case on behalf of my young master.

Who are you reporting, and what is it for?

Pan Yue killed his own wife.

What?

- Official Pan killed his wife? - Seriously?

Let's hear what he is going to say.

A month ago, Official Pan forced a commoner, Yang Caiwei, to marry him.

Miss Yang fell off the building on her wedding night.

This case is hastily closed as suicide.

While Miss Yang was working at the Coffin House,

she had already been mistreated over the years.

If she had wanted to kill herself, she would have died a hundred times.

But why did she choose to jump off the building on her wedding day?

My young master feels sorry for Miss Yang's unclear death.

Today, we would like to seek justice for her.

That makes sense.

The ugly woman doesn't seem like someone who would take her own life. Could it be real?

Nonsense. Official Pan isn't that kind of person.

You never know.

It seems that Silver Rain Terrace is using this incident to make things difficult for Pan Yue.

Why don't I make good use of this chance?

Even if Miss Yang's death is suspicious, how can you prove that the murderer is Official Pan?

Do you have any evidence?

That's the government office's job.

Official Pan, your appeal to the people sounds resolute.

But after the incident that day,

you abused the right as a censor to hinder the investigation of the former county magistrate.

After being impeached, you returned to Heyang as the county magistrate.

Official Pan, do you think you could hush everyone in Heyang up by doing so?

How could a murderer who trampled on the laws

become the rightful official of Heyang?

Pan Yue killed his wife. This is outrageous!

Pan Yue killed his wife. This is outrageous!

I haven't met with your young master before.

But I'm genuinely impressed by his kind resolution.

Although the falling-off-building case has been closed,

if someone questions it, I will re-examine the case,

and give you a satisfactory answer.

My young master isn't patient.

In seven days, you must give the people of Heyang an answer.

What do you say, Official Pan?

Heyang is under the protection of Silver Rain Terrace.

Since you are speaking on behalf of Silver Rain Terrace, how could I defy you?

I will wait for your answer.

He even comes to the government office.

Let's go.

Old Liu. The court is adjourned. Why are your legs trembling?

San'er, let me tell you this.

Judging what happened today, Silver Rain Terrace won't let it slide easily.

I bet they are going to torture us.

Old Liu. Both sides are no one to mess with.

We are very likely to be caught in the crossfire.

In the worst-case scenario, we would be better off leaving here.

That's all we can do.

Young Master. Pan Yue took the case.

He has some nerve.

I would like to see how he will clean up after himself.

Pan Yue promised to reveal the truth in seven days,

but he can't possibly turn himself in.

What plan is he hatching?

Silver Rain Terrace has been imperious lately.

Have you come up with a plan to deal with them?

What do you think we should do?

Should we examine Miss Yang's body publicly?

I... I'm not very familiar with this.

But they claimed that you impeded the investigation.

Why don't you examine the body publicly to show that you aren't hiding anything?

And the rumors would stop.

I never cared about the rumors. Why are you concerned about it?

I will do it. Allow me.

I'm thinking, if Miss Yang knows that you are wronged because of her,

she wouldn't rest in peace.

Before I put you in prison, I won't be at ease.

It seems that you pay extra attention to her case.

Because we have known each other since childhood.

Besides, you suspect me. So I'm thinking of proving my innocence.

There is nothing to investigate. She died in an accident.

- But seven days later... - I have a plan.

What plan?

Do you want to know?

But I don't want to tell you.

He seems confident.

I shall see what is up your sleeve.

Official Pan, here's your letter.

[Official Pan, please...]

Hundred Flowers Court?

[Hundred Flowers Court]

Young Master Li, let me pour for you.

- Come on. - Here.

One more.

- Sir, do you want some? - Sure.

- Come. - Please drink.

- Young lady, come over here. - Sure.

Coming.

Come hither, beauty.

Don't go.

Naughty.

Sir, come and get me.

- Don't go. - Come. Have a drink with me.

Cheers.

We have an important guest in the private room. Hurry over.

- Okay. - Come with me.

- Coming. - Quick.

Hurry.

- Hurry up. - Come on.

I wonder if I will be chosen.

- I want to be chosen. - I have prepared a good tune.

They will definitely choose me.

- Let's go. - It is our turn.

Come on.

Sorry to keep you waiting, Official Pan. Please forgive me.

I'm willing to wait for the beauties.

I won't blame you, Miss Qing.

That explains why all ladies fall for you.

You are indeed handsome and good-natured.

However, the young master of Silver Rain Terrace is targeting you.

You will probably have a hard time in Heyang.

Is the young master someone hard to deal with?

Zhuo Lanjiang is the only son of Zhuo Shanju.

He had been studying in the capital.

Three years ago, a new power arrived in Heyang, Gold Water Sect.

They were ferocious, and competed with Silver Rain Terrace for business.

Sect Leader Zhuo lost his life in the competition.

The young Zhuo Lanjiang then rushed back.

No one knows what happened that night.

People found that the river turned all red when they woke up in the morning.

The heads of the all the Gold Water Sect members were hanging on the city gate.

I heard that Silver Rain Terrace wiped out this sect three years ago.

I didn't expect it to be the young master's doing.

Miss Qing, did you invited me over to praise Silver Rain Terrace in front of me?

Of course not.

Official Pan, you are dashing, and I was attracted to you at first sight.

I'm meeting you late at night

because I want to do something those women wish for but dare not do.

Despite being a woman,

the Hundred Flowers Court has earned its place among the Four Greats.

In my eyes, you are a formidable person.

If I believe in such jests, I would be underestimating you.

However, since I have come here at your invitation,

to show my respect, I will drink first.

All right.

Official Pan, you are straightforward.

I will cut right to the chase.

You will probably expect a fight with the Four Greats since you came to Heyang.

The Hundred Flowers Court would like to be your ally, and assist you.

How do you know there will be a fight?

If not, your effort coming to Heyang would be in vain.

If you want to achieve something big,

taking down the Four Greats could help you gain a big reputation.

It sounds reasonable.

However, the Four Greats are thick as thieves.

How do I know if this isn't a honey trap from the Hundred Flowers Court?

Among the Four Greats, I'm unsatisfied with ranking last.

Silver Rain Terrace is domineering over everything,

while Gu Yong of Relief Hall is greedy.

As long as you pay him enough money, he wouldn't hesitate to stab his own father.

Also, Cai Sheng of Life and Death House is a reckless man.

He is foolhardy.

If you plan to engage in this fight,

I will assist you, and triumph over the rest of the Four Greats.

Do you think I will win?

I always have a good assessment of men.

All right. I promise you.

These two have allied themselves, colluding together.

But words alone aren't enough.

Shouldn't you show some sincerity, Miss Qing?

Don't worry, Official Pan. I have prepared a gift for you.

Here. May everything go smoothly for you in Heyang and may you get promoted.

May the Hundred Flowers Court shine its radiance upon Heyang.

Change the tune.

Yes.

You have ruined Official Pan's mood. Leave and receive your punishment.

- Yes. - Hold on.

Did you play the wrong note on purpose?

It seems that you are interested in me.

Come with me tonight.

I bid you farewell, Official Pan.

I shall take my leave.

Sister Qing. Is he the one you chose?

I will take this chance.

Perhaps he could help me to achieve my wish.

Didn't you want to keep your distance from me? Why did you follow me there?

You surely have a way to take your enemies down.

You joined hands with one of the Four Greats. This is impressive.

- It seems that Heyang will soon... - Stop flattering me.

Please don't take me wrong.

I thought you were investigating the falling-off-building case.

Had I known it was a lady's invitation, I wouldn't have come.

Shangguan Zhi. I don't care whether you are investigating or doing something else.

Since Shangguan Lan left you in Heyang, I must keep you safe.

If you keep messing around like this, I might not be able to help you next time. Do you understand?

Yes.

Thank you for helping me.

[Edify through music and ritual]

Young Master Pan.

Young Master Pan. The person you invited has arrived in Heyang.

All right.

[Court]

- I... - This is Official Pan's order.

Does he think I'm a thief?

Pan Yue is cautious around me. I'm afraid it is difficult to follow him.

How will I find the body of Shangguan Zhi?

When he probed, you know, and grabbed it, he discovered it.

Oh, right!

Did you know?

Many gambling houses have opened bets on the outcome of the case seven days later.

Between Young Master Zhuo and Official Pan,

if you bet on the right person, you could make a fortune.

I knew about it. Whom did you bet on?

Of course, Young Master Zhuo.

There is a saying, "a powerful dragon can't defeat the local snake."

I'm not like you. I'm smarter.

I bet on both.

No matter who wins, I won't lose money.

Well.

[Heyang's Soup and Flatbread] [Baked Flatbread]

Put your money on the left side if you bet on Young Master Zhuo. The right side is for Official Pan.

- You will strike it rich if you bet on the right person. - It must be Official Pan.

Young Master Zhuo is resolute and a man of his word. I bet on Young Master Zhuo.

- Me too. - Me too.

Official Pan serves the country and its people. He mustn't be slandered. I support Official Pan!

- Official Pan. - Me too.

- Young Master Zhuo! - Official Pan!

- Young Master Zhuo! - Young Master Zhuo!

- Official Pan! - Official Pan!

Madam, whom do you bet on?

She put all her money on Young Master Zhuo.

Why?

- Why did she bet on Young Master Zhuo? - That's a lot.

I bet Young Master Zhuo will definitely kick Official Pan out of Heyang.

Impossible.

Madam.

Both Young Master Zhuo and Official Pan are on an equal footing now.

You shouldn't put all your eggs in one basket.

I'm afraid you might be cleaned out.

That's right.

I wouldn't make this bet if I'm not confident.

Madam, do you know something? Could you share it with me?

What did she say?

Can you hear it?

- She is leaving? - She is leaving like this?

I will return to claim my winnings seven days later.

Sir. What is it about?

Care to share it with me?

But she just told me. It is not appropriate if I tell you now.

Take this.

- You can have all the money. - Well...

I will only tell you.

What...

- Stay back. - Pay me if you want to know.

She told me her husband holds an important position in Silver Rain Terrace.

She said Young Master Zhuo has already found where Madam Pan was buried.

Yes!

I will return to claim my winnings seven days later.

What is it?

What did he tell you? [Win | Accumulate Fortune and Win Big]

We are buddies. Share it with me. [Win | Accumulate Fortune and Win Big]

Let me tell you. I will only tell you.

All right.

Sister.

This is a wise move to lure him out.

I bet Pan Yue won't sit tight after knowing this.

Anyway, I will be waiting for him to lead me to the body.

Let's go.

Mind your step.

[Liquor]

I don't think this rain will stop soon.

- I will go and buy an umbrella. - Don't go.

People in the county office might notice if you get drenched.

I will go. I run faster.

Be careful.

Yang Caiwei. How could you do this to me?

You promised you would drink here every month.

Why are you so late?

- Mister. You got the wrong person. - A'Jiang?

Let go of me.

Yang Caiwei. Yang Caiwei.

You said I'm living like a delinquent with an unstable life.

You wanted me to stay alive and come back for you.

Now that I'm back,

but you died.

Scram. Don't touch me.

Do you know who I am?

Shut up.

You are just some reckless delinquent.

You will die if you don't get bandaged.

Put up with the pain.

Where did you go?

Where did you go?

Come on.

What are you doing?

Misters. He is my friend. I'm so sorry. He is drunk.

I will compensate for the things he broke.

Take him away now.

All right. I'm so sorry about that.

- He is a bad drunk. - Let's go.

- Yang Caiwei. - My goodness.

You scoundrel.

Why don't you come?

- Caiwei. - Yang Caiwei.

Who is he? Why do you care about this hooligan?

I saved his life from the mass grave.

Both of you are my only friends in Heyang.

Yang Caiwei.

Yang Caiwei.

He has a good-looking face.

His arm is injured. What do we do? Should we carry him back?

But I don't know where his home is. We will find him a place to settle down.

- Come on. - Yang Caiwei.

Young Lady.

What is wrong with you? You look listless.

Nothing.

Official Pan's clothes are washed.

- Do you want to deliver them to him? - No.

You go. I don't want to see him.

I got it. You are playing hard to get.

I understand. I'm leaving.

Because of me, Master has to go into hiding,

and Bai Xiaosheng has to act cautiously.

Seeing how A'Jiang is suffering, and I can't tell him the truth...

I must find the truth quickly and end all of this.

Something is wrong.

Old Liu. There are only two days left until the seven-day promise with Silver Rain Terrace.

But Official Pan hasn't made a move. Could he be conceding already?

I heard about it too. What is going on?

- I think so. - Is that true?

I went to the gambling house this morning

and changed all my bets to Young Master Zhuo.

Do you think I'm a traitor?

Everyone outside is saying that Silver Rain Terrace has found Miss Yang's body.

This is going to be their game.

Well. Isn't it obvious who the winner is?

My goodness.

If Official Pan loses, he can just go back, and marry the princess, right?

But look at us. We will lose our jobs.

I must take this opportunity to make money before I leave. Am I right?

Did I get it right? Hey. Am I right?

You are a good planner.

Being a constable is a waste of your talent.

Official Pan.

Official Pan. Please forgive me, Official Pan.

I... I... I will go and receive my spanking.

Let's go.

Official Pan, I will count it for him.

Prepare the horse. I'm going out tonight.

Yes.

Ling'er. Ling'er.

- Ling'er. - What is the matter, Young Lady? Why are you in a rush?

Get me some cucumber flower powder. Quick.

- Yes. - Hurry.

I have thought if I knew the time I would die,

I must find a beautiful peach blossom forest in advance for the burial of my body.

That forest looks quite good.

Why is it here?
