We're going to find her.

And I don't know what the hell
is going on in that field.

So I'm on a short amount of time

to try to get this horse found.

- What's up?

- I guess y'all didn't see
anything out of the ordinary?

You didn't see my mare come
running past?

- No, we didn't see your horse.
- She's gone.

Dixie is flat-ass gone.

Broke the post off that we tied
her off to.

Had to come running out of the
field

because Hadley here just got his
ass

jerked out of the picture.

Like something got ahold of him.

- Wait a minute. What do you

- I got grabbed

and drug.

Would you step off that horse

Right now, Parker and I, we need

to get Hadley to a safe space.

We're gonna get you to a truck.

And the other boys, they're hot
on the trail

of that horse.

So the team's split in two
groups.

- The rest of the team heads out

to where survivalist Josh...

- It's about the spot where I
saw her.

- Most recently spotted Kaleb's
horse.

- Sure nothing was chasing her?

- Not that I could see, man. But
it was kind of a blur.

- Don't see no broken limbs yet

- You got a track? - Take a look

And, I mean, that's a canine.

You can see, this was an older
coyote from the way

them teeth are ground off. -

It's not every day you're gonna
find a predator

dead right next to the prey.

- I've never seen that.

- He's got them teeth snapped

- Kaleb continues to search for
his missing horse...

wheat field...

Where mutilated animal bodies
have been recently discovered.

gonna find a predator

dead right next to the prey.

- I've never seen that.

If she ain't running now, she's
definitely running.

We just heard a boom, sound like
a damn cannon went off.

I ain't never heard nothing like
that in my life.

100 yards to the north.

We gotta hurry up there and see
what it is.

It's coming right up on that
ridgeline.

- Well, this is about as far as
we can go.

Do you see anything out there,
Ora?

- Man, it's just country.

- Parker, you guys got a copy?

Did y'all hear the big-ass
explosion

or something go off back here?

- Ask them if they're under that
ridgeline.

- You guys over there by that
north ridgeline?

- Yeah, we're staring at the
ridgeline right now.

And it blasted off back here.

- Son of a bitch is between us.

- In 2017, just 70 miles to the
west,

outside of Cortez, Colorado,

a string of four different
ranchers

reported hearing loud explosions

on different nights during the
summer.

The ranchers described the
noises

as sounding like sonic booms,
and the name caught on.

In addition to the mysterious
sounds

were numerous sightings of
strange balls of light

in the sky that were reported to
circle each other

and originated from a larger
central light.

The source of the booms were
never discovered

and the cause of the lights
remains unknown.

- Tell them boys to cut a wide
circle

and get back here.

- Hey, Jeff said, let's cut a
big circle away from it.

Come back here to the trailer.

- Yeah. - Copy that.

We're gonna circle back, just
backtrack

the tracks we came out on.

- I don't like that one damn
bit.

- We'll come back in here first
light

and pick the track up. - Yeah.

- There ain't no sense in us
getting off

in the middle of this tonight.

- If she's out here,

she's gonna have to take care of
herself for the night.

- The next day, the team catches
a potential break...

- Can you show them the video
real quick?

- You bet.

- When a local rancher shows
them video

captured by his doorbell camera
from that morning.

[dog barking]

- There she comes.

Just cruising right down through
there.

[horse whinnies]

She's damn sure moving.

- Livestock expert and
professional steer wrestler

Kaleb has deep ties to his horse
Dixie...

- She's got a three-hour head
start on us.

- Who he's ridden on the rodeo
circuit

for the past eight years.

- Cannot thank you enough. - All
right. You bet.

- Good horse is like family to
you.

So you don't stop until you find
them

when they come up missing.

I put a lot of years of training
in this mare.

I take her to a lot of rodeos
with me

and we've won a lot of money
together.

Everybody in the family can get
around her.

She'll walk right over there to
you,

put her head in your lap.

I mean, she's like a dog to me.

And there ain't no way in hell
I'm going back to Oklahoma

with an empty trailer.

So it's time to cut her tracks
and we get in there

and find her. [whistles]

- With Kaleb's horse on the run

directly next to the wheat field

where animal mutilations have
been taking place,

the team tracks on foot.

- I got tracks right here.

I got her.

- Yup. Sure enough.

- That's not old either.

- She's taking as long a stride
as she's got under her.

- There's another one right
there.

- Yeah. - She is moving.

- Hell, I'm glad it did rain
now.

- I know.

- Right there.

She's running straight through
here.

- Hey. What the hell is that?

It's dead, whatever it is.

- What in the heck is this,
boys?

■ ■

- Boy, that's a big old range
cow, ain't it?

- How'd she die?

- If a cow dies, things start
feeding on it.

Coyotes, first thing they do is
start dragging off ribs

and legs and such.

The whole thing's in one pile.

- I got a leg plumb back here.

- Been gnawed on?

- No, sir.

- I don't see a tooth mark on a
single bone.

- In 2019, in Eastern Utah, a
rancher made

a similar grisly discovery when
one of his cattle

appeared to have his head and
upper torso blown off

in an apparent explosion in the
night.

While the upper body was
violently impacted,

the back half of the cow was
undamaged

and very little blood was found.

The following night, a second
cow

also appeared to explode.

Neither cow carcass would decay

even after several weeks had
passed.

After being unable to find
answers,

the landowner eventually shut
down his operation

the following spring.

- I'm damn worried that gray
mare is

gonna end up like this cow.

So we got no options.

We gotta get on it.

We gotta find that mare today.

We're gonna get mounted and get
after this.

- After finding the exploded cow
carcass,

the team splits up to search the
two most recent places

the horse has been seen.

- She was off in this spot right
here.

- OK.

- Former military Ora...

- Y'all in position?

- Has called in some favors to
help in the search.

- I spent seven years in the
military.

I was a U.S. paratrooper.

I've known some pretty
interesting people,

people that got some pretty good
connections.

Let's fire this beauty up.

- Armed.

- Ora's plan is to use a
high-speed

thermal-equipped drone...

- Hell yeah.

- To guide the rest of the team
from above.

- Oh, she's good as caught now.

- This high-speed drone is
capable of flying

over 120 miles an hour and is
able to continue

to search the ground in total
darkness.

- Hey, boys, we're gonna take a
pass up this creek bed,

see what we can find.

- Ora's attempting to search
over 700 acres

of flatlands between two
mountain ridges

as quickly as possible.

- She's been running for a
while.

What I'm worried about now is,
it's getting dark quick,

and we're running out of time.

You go up just a little bit? -
Yep.

- Just a skosh.

- There she is. There she is.

- Right there. - Yup.

- I got here. - There she is.

Hey, Kaleb. Kaleb, we found her.

She's about 150 yards maybe just
to the east

of y'all, just a skosh.

- 10-4. - Let's go.

Let's cut right through these
junipers, man.

- Go up just a little bit? -
Yeah.

- Just a skosh.

[dramatic music]

She's about 150 yards maybe just
to the east

of y'all, just a skosh.

- 10-4. - Let's go.

Let's cut right through these
junipers, man.

her.

We're gonna keep on her.

Kaleb, we're still on her.

She's walking up through those
trees up the ridge.

- Josh, let's keep paralleling
these junipers.

Ora, come over here. Bring that
drone over the top.

I got her running down these
junipers.

- We see y'all. Keep going.

- Parker, y'all got this. Copy.

- She makes a break for that
ditch line,

I need you all to cut her off.

- Parker, I don't know exactly
where you are.

But it's a couple of hundred
meters north

of Kaleb and Josh. - Oh, down

- She's right down in that creek
bed.

What in the hell is she running
from?

- Ora said she's in this creek.

- Come on. Ay! - This is it,

- Where'd she go? - Ah, hell.

- As the sun sets, the team
loses track of Dixie.

- Nothing.

- Ora switches on the thermal
cameras

to continue the search.

- Ora, come back with that drone
and start grid searching

this field right here.

We're busted out of this timber.

So if she's come out of there,
she's gonna be

cutting across the field. Send
that drone over.

- Will do.

We can see y'all here on the
screen.

We'll kind of go ahead of y'all

and see if we see anything.

- This mare's being a real
ass[bleep] to hang on to.

She went down this creek?

God almighty, what is wrong with
this mare?

that just pops up on this ridge.

- That whole ridge is lit up.

- It don't look like it's
hoverin'.

It's coming up out of the
ground.

Some--I don't know what it is.

It's some kind of a UFO.

- Is that a fire?

- I'm heading over there right
now.

- See if you can go up that
ridge

and see if you can get a camera
on it.

- To us, it looks like a bunch
of white dots

with some heat signatures coming
off of 'em.

- From the drone standpoint? -
Yes, sir. Yeah.

We have the thermals on it.

Wait till we get some eyes on
this thing from above

and we'll let y'all know what we
find.

- Our radios are getting jacked

I don't know if you guys are

getting pretty wiry.

red lights

captured by the thermal drone.

Jeff, why is there a mountain
glowing red out here?

- 30 years ago, I spent nine
summers chasing lights

of every description on a ranch

about 250 miles northeast of
here.

And in my arrogance, I thought
I'd seen it all.

I have never seen anything like
that.

I've never seen that shade red.

Every light I chased for nine
summers

was flickering or flashing or
moving.

This thing just glowed like a
heat lamp.

That looks like a picture of a
starburst to me.

I've never been so perplexed.

- Yeah, you can feel the energy
down there.

There was no--I mean, hell, you
guys' horses was acting up.

- Something was definitely going
on.

and we lost the screen briefly.

And we decided to bring it home.
