It's not clear how

it got into the air
in the first place,

and it's certainly not clear
how it's staying there.

NARRATOR: Meet the man
shot by an unexplained object...

- There was just this intense
flash of light from this object,

and I started having seizures
within a couple of days

and I was going
in and out of hospital

with these seizures
and they couldn't stop them.

NARRATOR:
..now fighting for his life.

SASCHA AUERBACH:
All the findings seem to point to

significant exposure
to high energy radiation.

NARRATOR: And a U.S. jet fighter

bamboozled by a UFO in mid-flight...

straight in front of the plane.

UFOs - once the stuff
of science fiction -

now caught on camera,

to reveal what they know.

moment that these things,

whatever they are,

NARRATOR: A showcase of the
latest U.S. military equipment

for an audience of over
one million spectators

on the world-famous Miami beaches.

As plane enthusiast, David Sugarman,
films a military jet,

he seems to also capture

an extraordinary
and unexpected visitor.

- The beach that day
was absolutely beautiful,

crystal clear out.
The water was flat.

I was filming the jet
because I have

a infatuation for military aircraft.

It's something I've been interested
in since I was a little boy.

I noticed the object when I went
home and was reviewing the videos.

It's an unidentified
arial phenomenon

coming directly out of the water.

My reaction, I was absolutely,
absolutely shocked

at what I had seen.

It's clear as day that
something is going on.

It's pretty wild
when you think about it.

NARRATOR: The fastest aircraft
showcased at this event

travels at more than
1,500 miles per hour .

The speed of the UFO
appears to far exceed that.

- My reaction to the
speed of the object was...

I was... I was shocked!
I didn't have an answer.

NARRATOR: Even more remarkable,

the object appears
to achieve this speed

straight out of the ocean.

- To think that the object
appears to be able

to fully submerge in water,

yet also travel at that speed,

almost vertically, is mind-blowing.

NARRATOR:
This is no drone or missile,

nor is it part of the
Air and Sea show.

It's metallic and spinning,

so isn't a bird or bug.

But the strange object's
exact location

may provide an indication
as to what it is.

It's filmed at the western edge
of The Bermuda Triangle;

an area notorious for
disappearing ships and aircraft.

The mysterious triangle covers
a half million square mile section

of the Atlantic Ocean,
between Miami Florida,

Puerto Rico and Bermuda.

- The Bermuda Triangle is one of the
world's most famous mysteries.

Vanishing aircraft,

disappearing ships,

confused compasses,

strange sightings,

and countless lives
have been lost there.

NARRATOR: Reports of strange
events here go right back to 1492,

and some of the very first seafarers
who sailed across it.

And right from the start,
these have included UFOs.

- Christopher Columbus,

the Spanish explorer,

is sailing through
the Bermuda Triangle.

And at some point,

the compasses of
himself and his crew

begin to spin around frantically

as a huge light...

descends from the skies.

And while it's there,
the compasses are not behaving

according to the way they should do.

But when it ascends
back into the skies,

the compasses revert to normal.

- Weird compass movements
are a kind of staple

of the Bermuda Triangle mysteries,

and this has led to a theory

that there is some kind of strange
magnetic anomaly in the area.

- Just last year,
a boat carrying 20 passengers

went missing in
the Bermuda Triangle.

LINDA RODRIGUEZ MCROBBIE:
Nothing was found.

In fact, nothing was heard either.

There was no distress call.
No cry for help. Nothing.

It was as if this
29-foot-long ship just vanished.

NARRATOR: Something in the triangle
seems able to claim ships

far bigger than this.

A well-documented disappearance
occurred in 1918,

when the 550-foot-long USS Cyclops,

and her 309 men,

vanished without trace.

- This was during
the First World War,

so German U-boats were,
of course, immediately suspected.

But the Germans insisted

that their armed forces
had absolutely nothing to do

with the disappearance
of the USS Cyclops.

To this day, the U.S. Navy

says that this is one of the most
baffling cases in its annals.

NARRATOR: But the mystery
of the Bermuda Triangle

runs deeper than
mere disappearances.

In 1971, Jim Kopf,

a crewman aboard
one of the United States'

most prestigious aircraft carriers,

tells of an incident that suggests

ships here are being tracked
by objects in the sky.

- The aircraft carrier,
John F Kennedy,

was making its way across
the Bermuda Triangle

in the summer of 1971,

when a member of the crew reported

that when below deck,

all the technical equipment
on the ship shut down.

- Kopf heard screaming
down the communication tubes

that the end of the world
was happening.

- (siren blaring)
- Man you battle stations.

- He and a friend
raced onto the flight deck

and what they found astounded them.

A glowing orange disc
was hovering over the flight deck.

He said it was huge.

And it stayed there,
just hanging in the air.

- Kopf says that
after the orb vanished,

the power returned to the ship...

and the crew were told never
to talk about the incident again.

The whole incident was classified.

NARRATOR: Three years later,
Charles Berlitz

published a hugely popular book

about the mysteries
of the Bermuda Triangle.

It sold 20 million copies.

Berlitz claimed to see
a peculiar pattern in these events.

Although many mainstream
oceanographers

prefer to blame the weather.

- This area is notorious
for sudden, vicious storms.

The majority of hurricanes
and tropical storms

actually pass through
the Bermuda Triangle.

The problem with this explanation
for the Bermuda Triangle mysteries

is that at the time of
some of these incidents,

there are no reports of bad weather.

NARRATOR: And the huge glowing orb

can't easily be dismissed
as a weather event.

What is more, 50 years on,

UFOs are still being sighted

over the Bermuda Triangle.

And leaked documents
on the WikiLeaks website

show that objects like these
might now be appearing

on sophisticated
military sensors, too.

LINDA RODRIGUEZ MCROBBIE:
Military personnel monitor missiles.

They do this by intercepting
electronic communications

between satellites and Earth.

They also use their system
of extremely sensitive

infrared early warning satellites.

And these satellites
are 35,000 kilometres

above the surface of the Earth,

which means
that they can know about

pretty much any
satellite launch on Earth.

But that also means that they catch
a lot of other flying objects.

NARRATOR: Some of these objects
are easily identifiable.

The ones that aren't,
are known as "fastwalkers."

- Fastwalkers is the
military code name

for objects that are
moving strangely,

that are picked up by
their infrared sensors.

NARRATOR: And there are a lot
of them around the Bermuda Triangle.

LINDA MCROBBIE: One kind
of fastwalker keeps showing up

and it seems to fly and
change course intelligently.

- This fastwalker flies
in and out of the ocean

somewhere between
Miami and Bermuda,

LUIS ELIZONDO:
We are seeing these UFOs

can transition from underwater
to the atmosphere.

It's the tell-tale sign

that you're looking at something
truly extraordinary.

NARRATOR: And today...
we're able to track them.

- When the object enters
and leaves the ocean,

it gives off a unique
electromagnetic signature.

- (fizzling)

- U.S. Air Force planes on
reconnaissance missions

have tracked UAPs
to this part of the ocean.

They've even recorded footage

of UAPs entering and leaving
the ocean here.

TONY MCMAHON: These UAP
sightings are hugely significant,

because this hard data

is being picked up by instruments

that are known to be
reliable and accurate.

The object captured on Miami beach

certainly looks and moves

like one of these
so-called fastwalkers,

not emerging out of
the distant ocean,

but right up by the coastline.

- Is there something under the
waters of the Bermuda Triangle

we should be looking for?

A base or even just
a dangerous natural anomaly?

A lot of ships, planes, and lives,
have been lost in this area.

The military needs to
throw open its sensor data,

so we can find out
what's really going on!

I think the governments are afraid

to share what these crafts are.

I don't know that the world's
reaction would be,

if the world found out that
there are other life forms...

and it's something
that we should be told.

A woman standing on the roof
of her downtown apartment

captures one of the strangest
UFOs ever recorded.

- (woman groans)

WOMAN: Not normal at all!

- How is this staying
in the sky like that?

- That's just a weird shape.
What is that?

SASCHA AUERBACH:
It doesn't look normal at all.

And it appears to be
just hanging there.

NARRATOR: It looks like a sphere
with unearthly tentacles

hanging from either side.

Analysis of the footage
shows no tampering

or digital effects.

LINDA MCROBBIE RODRIGUEZ:
The clip looks genuine...

and it looks like
it was definitely taken

on someone's mobile phone
in the moment.

NARRATOR: The object isn't moving,

not even bobbing,
like a balloon would.

It's staying stock still

over a city so prone to turbulent
air currents,

it's famously called The Windy City.

- It does experience very sustained,

very cold winds

because it's on
the edge of Lake Michigan

and the air can actually come
all the way from the Arctic.

THOMAS GARDINGER: It can't be
hanging from something obscure,

though it is a dull day,

because then it wouldn't be
so steady.

NARRATOR: The object defies
the gusts around it

in a way that humans
can only achieve

with huge amounts of
stabilising thrust and power.

- Engineers today, of course,
can create vehicles that hover,

like helicopters.

They can even make jet engine
powered vehicles hover,

albeit at great expense
and considerable complexity.

NARRATOR: The F-35B,

an aircraft introduced to the
U.S. Air Force in 2015,

can hover in mid-air,

despite weighing over
27,000 kilograms.

But the noise it gives off
is up to 115 decibels...

as loud as a typical rock concert.

This object is eerily silent,

and its shape other-worldly.

LINDA MCROBBIE RODRIGUEZ:
When it comes to things that fly,

you're really looking for the
kind of classic tell-tale signs

of thrust and propulsion.

So, wings, jet engines, propellers.

This object doesn't have
any of that.

It's not clear how it got into
the air in the first place,

and it's certainly not clear
how it's staying there.

NARRATOR: The classic UFO
from science fiction

is a flying saucer or disc,
but much more bizarre shapes,

like the one caught on film
over Chicago,

are reported by observers.

- A man in New York in 1974

reported seeing an
unidentified spinning top.

- There was one spotted
above Los Angeles

that to some people looked to be
a humanoid holding a kind of orb.

- (thunder crashes)

NARRATOR: For the city of Chicago,
on the shores of Lake Michigan,

bizarre UFO incidents
seem to have stepped up

since a weird encounter
above the city's main airport,

witnessed by dozens of people.

- On November 7th, 2006,

a classic saucer-like object

was spotted over
Chicago's O'Hare Airport.

Reports varied about
what this actually looked like,

although they did all agree that it
kind of had this saucer-like shape.

NARRATOR: The object was said
to have hovered over Gate C17

for a several minutes
before shooting off at great speed.

It is said to have moved so fast

it punched a hole in the clouds
over the airport.

- People who saw this object,
they work in aviation;

they're ground crew, they're
mechanics, their flight attendants.

They see aircraft all the time.

But none of them knew what this was.

And its proximity to the airport
was very, very concerning.

- (dramatic, ominous music)

You would have thought
that an object like this,

as close as it was to the airport,

would have caused
some kind of investigation,

The Federal Aviation Administration
would have gotten involved.

It would have been a big deal.

But that didn't happen.

- Initially, the Federal
Aviation Administration

refuses to issue any type
of report on the incident.

But when a local paper,
the Chicago Tribune,

files a Freedom of Information Act,

the FAA attribute it
to a weather phenomenon.

NARRATOR: But the public
didn't buy this explanation,

and from that moment,
Chicago became associated with UFOs.

Reports flood in every month,

but this is a city of over
two and a half million people,

most of whom are not
trained observers.

- More and more people are
looking into the skies.

More and more people will see things
that they can't understand

and will ascribe it to a UFO.

NARRATOR: And there could be
a terrestrial explanation

for all this activity over Chicago.

Just north of the city, there is
one of the U.S. Government's

most important
military installations.

- The Naval Station Great Lakes

is the U.S. Navy's
largest training ground.

It's been home to 20,000

soldiers, sailors, marines,

Department of Defence, civilians.

They all live there
and they work there.

NARRATOR: The U.S. Navy spends
22 billion dollars annually

on technology, research
and development.

It's possible that what was
seen over Chicago

in 2006 and in 2021...

were secret craft being tested.

GUY WALTERS: The fact that
you got a military area nearby

very quickly explains that this

is going to be associated
with the military.

LUIS ELIZONDO:
Lest we forget the lessons,

when Elon Musk and SpaceX

began launching their Starlink
satellite constellations.

A lot of people
started reporting UFOs,

when in reality, it was just
a long line of satellites

all moving together.

NARRATOR: But there is
a more sinister possibility.

- (tense, ominous music)

NARRATOR: The Deputy Director
of Naval Intelligence, Scott Bray,

admitted at a press conference
in May, 2022,

that UFOs were targeting
military training facilities

in the United States.

- Since the early 2000s,

we have seen an increasing number

of unauthorised and/or unidentified
aircraft or objects

in military-controlled
training areas.

Reports of sightings
are frequent and continuing.

Incursions in our training ranges
by unidentified objects

represent serious hazards
to safety of flight.

Second, intrusions
by unknown aircraft or objects

pose potential threats
to the security of our operations

NARRATOR: These objects may not
be interested in Chicago,

but in its massive Naval
training complex next door.

- These sightings are repeatedly
happening over training exercises

and the most recent report,
released in 2021,

the most compelling findings there

were also reported
by a naval investigation

into similar phenomena.
Is that a coincidence?

NARRATOR: And the Pentagon's
Advanced Aerial Threat

Identification Programme

advised the Government
that these incursions

may not be entirely friendly.

LUIS ELIZONDO: What we do see...

is what we would consider
in the military

as "active ISR:" Intelligence,
Surveillance, and Reconnaissance.

Or potentially what we call "IPB:"

Initial Preparations
of the Battle Space.

So, let's just speculate for
one moment that these things,

whatever they are here to do,

are here to do not very good things.

NARRATOR: In this light, the weird
object hovering over Chicago

could be gathering intelligence
about our military capabilities,

our logistics, our defences;

all as preparation

for an eventual invasion.

- Maybe it's something completely
innocent and simple in origin.

It may also be
that this particular UAP

is already known to
Great Lakes military personnel.

We just don't know.

NARRATOR: August 9th, 2019.

Dunedoo, New South Wales, Australia.

43-year-old Damian Nott
is rushed to hospital.

Doctors are aghast by what they see.

- My arm started getting red

and then it started blistering.

These really strange green blisters.

And then they found out
that I had bone issues.

A thing called
hypophosphatemic osteomalacia

which is, like, a rare bone disease.

They found that my bones
were that weak

they were on par with a
90-year-old woman's bones.

NARRATOR: And there's
a problem inside his head.

GUY WALTERS: Damien's had
these really, sort of, anomalous

and strange MRI brain scans,

and they're really making doctors
in Australia scratch their heads.

NARRATOR:
But medics are even more shocked

when they ask how Damian
got these injuries.

- The story goes
something like this:

Damien's with his girlfriend, Mel,

and they spot this strange object
hovering over their back yard.

They watch it for about 40 seconds
before Mel was a bit freaked out

and she goes back inside;
pretty sensible.

- There was this intense
flash of light from this object,

and I don't know if it was a...

what it was, but it kind of
lit up my entire vision

and I felt this warmth.

Blinked out and it was gone.

NARRATOR:
It was at that precise moment,

that Damien believes his health

began to deteriorate.

- It got really bad
over, like, three weeks

and during the summer
I was having seizures.

I fell over during one of
these seizures

and broke my back in three places.

We went to multiple doctors...

none of them
could explain my arm either.

They couldn't explain...
the type of burn.

It was almost like a microwave,
radiation burn.

- Sounds like, from this range
of symptoms, that Damian has

been exposed to a very
high level of radiation.

And when we talk about
radiation exposure,

we're talking about
high energy particles

moving through
the body very rapidly.

You might think about these
particles as like tiny cannonballs

that shoot through your body,
and as they go through,

they damage your DNA and your cells.

NARRATOR:
Doctors believe Damian is dying

from the injuries he sustained.

It's a strange story,

but it's one that is echoed
in a range of reported incidents

in recent history.

- Damian is ultimately
one of the latest people

in a line of so many others

to claim that they've succumbed to
these bizarre and horrific injuries

after, supposedly,
a close encounter with a UAP.

NARRATOR: In 1951,
a group of GIs fighting in Korea

report they fired on a strange light

that seemed to be
surveying the battlefield.

The object seemed to shoot back,

hitting the men with a ray

similar in description
to the one that hit Nott.

When they were examined by doctors,
they were found to have dysentery

and an extremely high
white blood cell count.

In 2021, a Pentagon funded study

was declassified under the
Freedom of Information Act.

It detailed reports
of military personnel

who had got too close to a UFO.

- There were hundreds
of patients affected,

and their symptoms
ranged in severity.

Some of them had
gruesome burns and sores,

some of them developed brain damage,

and some of them developed
unexplained multiple sclerosis.

NARRATOR: Some are said
to have died from injuries

that scientists
would normally link

with radiation poisoning.

LUIS ELIZONDO: There are
some individuals that displayed

some internal organ damage,

and also specific brain morphology.

Now, it's not unusual because
the human body

is mostly comprised of water,

and it is electro galvanic,
to some degree.

So we conduct electricity.

That's how nerves
and everything work.

So, we're like a large
biological, electrical circuit.

And there were some-some patients

that displayed internal organ damage
consistent with some sort of...

what one might consider
directed energy-type weapon.

- If Damien Nott and others
are purposely zapped by UAPs,

this may be their way of saying,
"Keep your distance."

NARRATOR: Damien is convinced
that his injuries came

as a result of contact with the UFO.

But an event from 2016,

involving another
health-shattering beam,

suggests a more
earthly enemy is at work.

- An unusual set of symptoms
started to afflict

U.S. diplomats and CIA officers
who were serving in Havana, Cuba.

And the symptoms
that they found were

memory loss, hearing loss
and nausea.

All could be explained
by one thing: brain injuries.

GUY WALTERS: For a while,
everything was kind of hushed up

because of the nature of the work
some of these people performed.

NARRATOR: When the bizarre symptoms
began appearing elsewhere,

a disturbing commonality emerged.

- In 2018, U.S. personnel
working in China

began to suffer similar symptoms,

and sometime later,
personnel working in Russia as well.

And these are two nations
with known antagonism

towards the United States.

- Since then, there have been
more than 100 reported cases

of what we're calling
Havana Syndrome.

- This is an urgent priority.

For President Biden, for me,

for our entire government.

- You've got people being forced
into early retirement

because of the severity
of their illnesses.

So, you know, this is really
sinister stuff and it's real.

Some are seeing it
as a de facto act of war.

- (crackling)

It's some form of sonic weapon,

which is kind of directing
some form of radiation

at American embassies.

It's not a death ray...

but it's certainly an invisible beam

that makes you very ill indeed.

NARRATOR:
But even if the so-called UFO

Damien and his girlfriend
saw in 2019

was some sort of drone
from a communist country,

the weapon it apparently fired

matches nothing
seen before on earth.

- Damian Nott reported seeing
a pulsing blue light

coming out of a flying object,

and that's not what you
would expect him to report

if he was hit by a radar weapon.

In fact, if you were hit by radar,
there wouldn't be

any visible light
for you to witness.

When I think of blue light, I think
of NASA's ion thruster engines,

but those are only used in space.

So, could this be
an engine from space?

Damien claims that there's
no earthly explanation

that he can think of to explain
what he saw, so perhaps he's right.

NARRATOR: We may never know
what exactly Damien Nott encountered

in the winter of 2019,

but he blames whatever it was

for the heart problems
that plague him to this day.

- A lot of people say
that all this is positive,

and aliens are positive.

That there's no evil
and everyone's good

and they have our best
intentions at heart.

How can you say something like that?

SALMA SIDDICK: The eyes were
nothing like I'd ever seen before.

They were very big and very dark.

They were captivating.
You couldn't look away.

Almost as though this being
was looking into my soul,

like it knew me.

Like it knew who I was.

July 25th, 2022.

Human rights lawyer, Salma Siddick,

speaks about a bizarre encounter
she had as a little girl.

It happened on
September 16th, 1994,

at Ariel school in the
Zimbabwean town of Ruwa,

15 miles from the capital, Harare.

Salma was one of dozens
of school children who said

that when they were playing
during their morning break,

they saw three
gleaming orbs overhead.

The orbs disappeared
in a flash of light...

then reappeared
in another part of the sky.

If it had just been
one or two school children

who had noticed them, their story
might have been dismissed,

but 60 pupils reported
seeing something very similar.

- We all looked at each other
and said "Did you see that?"

We realised that we were
all seeing the same thing.

I don't quite know how
to describe it, but it was...

like nothing I've ever felt before.

It was silver-esque in colour,

but it was a type of...

metal or fabrication
that I'd never seen before.

SASCHA AUERBACH:
The disk ends up hovering

above an adjacent playing field,

and the children rush
to get a closer look at it.

Then they witness
something even more chilling.

- I saw what I call the being,
or a being.

It was maybe about
three to four feet away from me.

Three to four feet tall, I guess.

It did not have any hair,
no hair on its head, nothing.

Its skin was almost like
porcelain really.

NARRATOR:
The creature got so close to Salma

she could almost
reach out and touch it.

But as it got nearer still,

the entire environment
seemed to change.

- It moved from place to place.

What I remember
is that I would see it...

like, over here...

and then I would blink and it
would be over on another side.

Time seems to be the really...

odd thing that stuck out,
in that it seemed like

it had slowed down immensely.

SASCHA AUERBACH:
The day after the incident,

the children are asked
to illustrate what they had seen.

And about 35 of the pictures drawn

were very similar
in their depictions

of the craft and the beings.

NARRATOR: Some of the children said
these beings had issued frightening

telepathic messages.

JOYCE OHAJAH: Oddly, some of the
children say that the bipedal beings

that they encountered
spread telepathic warnings

about the future state
of planet Earth.

- (foreboding music)

JOYCE OHAJAH:
Some claimed that the beings warned

that we were
polluting the environment

and that we must be careful
of our technological development,

and that unless we changed our ways,

we'd face dire consequences.

NARRATOR:
School Pupils living and studying

in close proximity are known to
be susceptible to mass hysteria.

Teachers have found that children
can convince each other

of the existence of all kinds
of incredible things,

including supernatural beings,

and start behaving
in erratic and peculiar ways.

- Interestingly enough,
a lot of mass hysteria cases

have been documented.

And a particularly interesting one

happened in Zimbabwe in 2009.

The children started
screaming in terror,

reporting that they were seeing
lion and snake creatures

and some of them acted
as if they were in a trance.

Reports on these
mass hysteria incidents

surmised that they
might be the result

of people being under extreme stress

or pressure of one sort or another.

NARRATOR: Just two days before
the 1994 incident at Ariel school,

the Russian Zenit 2 Rocket

passed over the skies
of south-east Africa.

It's possible that this
space spectacle

could have acted as catalyst

for a fantasy shared
among the pupils.

But, nearly 30 years after
the strange events at Ariel school,

Salma Siddick
is sticking to her story.

- You start to question yourself.
It's like, "OK, did I see that?"

But I believe in what I saw

and I thought supressing it

indicates that I don't
believe in what I saw

regardless of what
everyone else thinks or may think.

NARRATOR: And documents produced
by the Defense Intelligence Agency,

released on April 6th, 2010,

may explain the strange sighting.

SASCHA AUERBACH: Some of the
topics discussed are remarkable,

bordering on science fiction
or paranormal phenomenon.

NARRATOR:
It's a high-level briefing document

discussing how UFOs might be
capable of appearing

and disappearing instantaneously;

a feature of many witness reports.

- Traversable wormholes
are discussed,

still just a feature
of science fiction,

wormholes theoretically act
as a tunnel

between two distant points
in space-time,

making a sort of shortcut.

This capability would mean
it's possible to leave space-time

and exist outside of it.

NARRATOR:
It's seems like science fiction,

but its a technology that humans
are already working on.

- In 1994, the Mexican theoretical
physicist Miguel Alcubierre

proposed the first warp drive,

calling it the Alcubierre Drive.

- (warbling)

NARRATOR: Alcubierre said that by
creating a bubble of flat space-time

around an object and curving
space-time around that bubble,

the distances would be reduced,

creating a wormhole,

allowing an object
to travel any distance

faster than the speed of light.

- If we're making even theoretical

progress towards achieving
something like a warp drive,

was the encounter at Ruwa
with an alien civilisation

that's already achieved this
theoretical warp drive technology?

NARRATOR: This would certainly match
with Salma's description

of time seeming to alter,

or warp, as the entity approached.

SALMA SIDDICK: It felt like
I had no concept of time.

Everything was moving really slowly.

- Were the children who reported
seeing two beings,

in fact, instead seeing one being

that was manipulating time and space

around itself and the craft.

operating outside of space-time,

it could also explain
its seeming ability

to deliver a prophecy
about events on Earth

that have yet to happen.

The 1994 mass UFO sighting in Ruwa

happened in an era
before smart phones

and digital cameras were invented.

Today, the most significant
evidence we have,

lies in the testimony
of pupils like Salma,

who, 30 years on,

still believes she witnessed
a creature

commanding extraordinary technology.

- I think it definitely
opened up my mind to...

the fact that there was
more than just us out there,

because whatever I had seen
was not of this place.

NARRATOR: On the 17th of May, 2021,

President Barack Obama appeared
on James Corden's Late Late Show.

- James Corden, well,
that's not exactly

how any UFO investigation
should start.

NARRATOR: But when the light-hearted
interview turned to the subject

of UFOs, the demeanour
of the former President

changed markedly.

- In what was a jarring break

from the usual light-hearted
tone of the show,

Obama became deadly serious.

NARRATOR: The former president
said to Corden and the cameras:

- Did he really say that on one of
America's biggest talk shows?

- (crowd cheering)

- It was incredible.
The interview was reported

by news outlets across the world.

NARRATOR: And he didn't stop there.

Just a month later,
he openly discussed

the government's likely response

if extra-terrestrial contact
is ever made.

- You have Obama
telling the New York Times

that extra-terrestrial contact
would, of course, require

the U.S., quote:
"To spend a lot more on defence."

That was one hell of a statement,
given that the U.S.

already spends an absolutely
colossal 800 billion,

probably nearly a trillion
dollars annually.

I mean, you got to ask,
what kind of alien contact

is President Obama envisaging?

- What's really incredible about
this is, it's a complete U-turn

from what he said while he was in
the White House from 2009 to 2017.

- I, Barack Hussain Obama
do solemnly swear...

- That I will faithfully execute...
- That I will faithfully execute...

NARRATOR: In 2011, two petitions,
with thousands of signatures,

were sent to the
Obama administration,

seeking the truth
about UFO contacts.

- One had over 12,000

calling on the American government,

firstly to disclose any knowledge

or communication
with extra-terrestrial beings.

And secondly,
to acknowledge that there had been

extra-terrestrial
engagement with Earth.

- The petitions referred to hundreds

of military and government
agency personnel

who are coming forward
with testimony

confirming this
extra-terrestrial presence.

NARRATOR: When the petitions
arrived at Obama's White House,

his senior advisor for space and
innovation, Phil Larson, responded.

GUY WALTERS: He just flat out
denies any knowledge

of extra-terrestrial beings.

And tells the petitioners
that the government had,

quote: "No evidence that any
life exists outside our planet."

NARRATOR:
But leaked emails from 2015

paint a very different picture
of behind-the-scenes discussions

in Obama's White House.

- What Wikileaks revealed was that
there was this whole chain of emails

between the late Nasa astronaut,
Edgar Mitchell,

and the Obama administration.

SASCHA AUERBACH: Mitchell was
the lunar pilot module on Apollo 14.

And he was only the sixth person
to walk on the moon.

NARRATOR: And after retiring
from NASA in 1972,

it was Mitchell's
outspoken views on UFOs

that kept him in the headlines.

He said:

- In an email sent
on the 25th of June, 2014,

Mitchell requests a meeting with
President Obama and John Podesta.

Podesta was a prominent Democrat

and very much part of the
establishment at the time.

NARRATOR: On January 1st, 2014,

John Podesta became
Counsellor to the President,

having previously spent four years
in Bill Clinton's administration.

- (crowd cheering)

NARRATOR: Podesta is the
ultimate Washington insider...

- We're still counting votes

and every vote should count.

NARRATOR: ..and he has
a strong interest in UFOs.

- There are speeches where Podesta
is arguing for disclosure.

He says it's the right thing to do.

NARRATOR: A politician
as high profile as Podesta

calling for the government to
disclose what it knows about UFOs

was music to Edgar Mitchell's ears,

and the astronaut
got in touch by email.

- He wants to discuss the next steps

in terms of extra-terrestrial
disclosure.

- It turns out that Podesta had been
talking to some of America's

most senior generals

with the aim of making public

the knowledge of UAPs.

NARRATOR: But none of this frantic
behind-the-scenes activity

on UFOs is ever made public.

- The thing that really baffles me
with the Obama administration

is how little information
about UFOs,

actually got out,
given their interest in disclosure.

They never pushed it to the extent

where the American people were
given the information they deserved.

NARRATOR: There is a strange pattern
of United States Presidents

showing an interest in UFOs

but being silenced once in office.

- You have Gerald Ford,
who is president of the 1970s,

and he said that he wanted answer
to the UFO issue in 1966.

But once he was in the White House,
yeah, he didn't bother anymore.

NARRATOR: Jimmy Carter said
he personally saw a UFO in the sky

above a restaurant
in Leary, Georgia, in 1969.

He told journalists
that once in office,

he'd throw open
the government's UFO files

to scientists and the public.

- Attorney Daniel Sheehan
says that President Jimmy Carter

approached the head of the CIA,

who at the time
was George Bush senior.

Carter allegedly told Bush

to reveal the truth about UFOs,

and Bush allegedly replied

that he, the U.S. President,

didn't have the need to know.

NARRATOR: Obama's carefully worded
admission to James Corden

on primetime television

is proof, that whatever UFOs are,

the age of absolute secrecy

is coming to an end.

- There's been a political and
cultural shift in Washington, D.C.

and now the issues are being
increasingly discussed.

- Reports claim that the military
and intelligence communities

are dragging their feet,

but the tide is starting
to turn against them,

and they won't be able to swim
against that tide for much longer.

NARRATOR: On March 10th, 2022,

an independent researcher
investigating classified documents

held in Obama's
Presidential library,

made a staggering discovery.

- Almost 30,000 pages
of UAP and extra-terrestrial data.

I mean, that's vast.
