We've had some heavy rains lately,

and the rangers are checking for leakage.

Sometimes water gets into the
caverns through the crevasses.

We call it percolating water.

You know, there's nothing like these

caverns anywhere in the world.

They're phosphorescent,

all the colors of the rainbow.

- [Gene] This is good examples

of stalactites and stalagmites.

- My trouble is I could never remember

which is the stalagmite and
which is the stalactite.

- It's really very simple, Madam.

The word stalactite comes
from the Greek word stalaktos,

which means dripping.

Stalagmite come from
the Greek word stalagos,

which means oozing.

So we have stalaktos and stalagos.

Very simple.

An amazing example

of Cretaceous limestone.

And you see how it
glitters with phosphorus.

Astonishing.

You know, this could
yield some signs of life

30,000 years or more ago.

early habitation in this area?
