975 A.D.

Since his surrender to Sung,

Li Yu of the Southern Tang, widely known as Li Hou Zhu,

was created the Marquess of Wei Ming

There on, he & his beloved second wife, Empress Zhou

were put under house arrest

and led a leisurely life

Li Hou Zhu could only lament

the destruction of his empire in poetry

Prince Jin, Zhao Guang Yi

had an eye on Empress Zhou

Li Hou Zhu's previous bodyguard Li Lang

came with the message

Li Lang

Greetings to Your Majesty

Rise

It's now the world of the Sung

and you are still so loyal

to an emperor without a country

Prince Jin arrives

Kneel, hurry and kneel

Prince Jin, what can I do for you?

I've been attracted by Empress Zhou's beauty

and am here to pay her a visit

She really is a beauty

Zhao Guang Yi, what do you want?

I'd like to make love to Empress Zhou

No, don't be rash, General

Ask the painter to

paint my posture of passion

And let it pass on to future generations

The Emperor promised me that

the Marquess residence would be left alone

What you've done is outrageous!

Have you heard of brother being succeeded by brother?

If my brother is dead then I'll be the King

So you won't yield?

Then you can do nothing except killing yourself

Would you like some help from me?

Bring the poisoned wine

What should I do?

I know you are good at poetry

I know what I ought to do

Good

Your Highness is a real genius

you're good even at this

You are the best for all time

Yes

You are a real philanderer

What do you think of this painting?

It's great but...

If it's great, that's enough

Bring the jade seal

Yes

Your Highness

It'd be a shame to lose

such a great licentious pose

You should leave it for posterity

Come men, keep it in the treasure trove

Hurry»-

Xiang Ling

Brother

Xiang Ling

Where's teacher?

Teacher asked you to keep a watch on Prince Jin

why are you back here?

It's tough, I'm not going anymore

Aren't you afraid teacher would scold you?

You could ask him to do that

He is training, don't disturb him

So you're scared, teacher

Teacher is deadly

You dare to be lazy?

How are you getting on?

I haven't been lazy

I have done all that you told me to

The painting is here

Zhao Guang Yi, I have got a hold on you

Teacher, you want to train to be a fairy

why bother with worldly affairs

and serve the prince?

Yes. why?

What do you know?

Without the Emperor's endorsement

how could I become a fairy?

I must help the prince to the throne

to achieve my objective

I must harness this opportunity

Your Highness, Prince Jin is outrageous;

the people resent him

Now he has done something worse,

he has no respect for the law

It could be dreadful if he goes on like this

Only you could stop him

What should I do?

Everyone has a duty to do away with the bad elements

No, during the revolt years ago,

my father united the kingdom

My uncle contributed a lot too

Empress has hence asked 36 regional military governors

to witness Father signing an agreement

to state that uncle will become the Emperor

after Father passes away

I know

or the 36 governors would revolt

Now, even you

dare not censure him for his actions

I'll send this painting to the treasure trove

Please consider then decide what's best to be done

I anticipated his action

Where's the painting?

Bring it here

They have already taken action

Don't think too much

Greetings to Your Majesty

What brings you here so early?

Regarding the Marquess residence matter...

I knew about that

Please look at this painting, Father

As a royalty

his doing is outrageous

He has gone too far

Father, take care

He is family after all

Li Yu is but the emperor of a lost dynasty

But when he was made a lord

you promised to leave his residence alone

What uncle has done

is a total disregard of you

Such impudence!

No matter what,

this must be explained to the people

I have my own plans, step down

Yes

Chen 50's greetings to Your Majesty

Arise

How could I serve you at this late hour?

Your Majesty, are you troubled by

what has happened at the Marquess residence?

This is a trivial matter

I'm worried about the Zhao Regime

I understand very well Your Majesty's concerns

The Agreement is set

Could Your Majesty be in favour of hereditariness?

A son to inherit from his father is perfectly justified

If you wanna get rid of the agreement it's not too late

But this will create discontent among the 36 governors

and cause chaos

Although Guang Yi is dissolute in conduct,

he is after all.. family

As long as the Zhao regime is safely protected,

it doesn't matter who will become the Emperor

Although Prince isn't on good terms with his uncle

he is an honest and considerate person

Besides, I can help counsel him

so Your Majesty can be more at ease

Guang Yi is too reckless

We should teach him a lesson... taste some failures

What? Everyone knows it already?

Apart from Father,

everyone knows about it

So what?

Uncle, no one has used this style before

How's the feeling?

Prince...

De Zhao, we heard that your house was on fire yesterday

Are you alright?

Brother, someone set fire to your house?

I'm lucky, I'm alright

That's good

Good for you

H is Majesty arrives

Long live the Emperor

Rise

Thank you Your Majesty

Guang Yi, how do you explain this?

I don't have to

Zhao Pu

I am here

You defy imperial decree, how should you be punished?

Defying imperial decree deserves death

Although Li Yu is under house arrest,

he still cherishes the memory of his fallen empire

He may not be truly loyal to Your Majesty

Even if this didn't happen,

it's no guarantee that

he won't do harm to the Sung Dynasty

Prince Jin is young & impetuous; been in army for long

Though a bit rash, he's still a Sung envoy after all

Besides, his achievements outweigh his errors

I hope Your Majesty would be magnanimous

As you've said

he's been in the army for a long time and is rash

I'll remove him from his present position

Who dares take up this position other than me

How dare you!

Slap him

Yes, Your Majesty

You dare defy a royal decree? Behead him

Mercy...

Zhao Pu, slap him for me

No need, I'll do it myself

Retreat

Your Highness, we've burnt that painting

Yes, smooth and clean

Come over

Your Highness, their failure

indicates that the Prince is already up to something;

we have to take precautions

Once I become the Emperor, he'll know

But nobody knows who'll take the throne eventually

Me of course, unless he dares to tear up the Agreement

Though he can't tear up the Agreement,

he surely can destroy you

Not that easy

It's not difficult at all

Then what should I do?

Don't go out

Not even the morning assembly?

If you can avoid it

No, I have to go

Everyone ready, Prince is going to the morning assembly

Make way...

What's the confusion?

Don't you know Prince Jin is going to morning assembly!

It's like this every morning

"Jinn

Assassin...

Chase

Let's split

Stop him

Hurry

Intercept him

Hurry

Follow me

Have some wine to keep warm

Alright

Right, what's your name?

My name is Xiang Ling

Wow, so spicy

You don't know me, yet why did you rescue me?

You don't know me either, why did you follow me here?

Alright, it's almost done, no need to be too anxious

Who is he?

My friend

Please

What's this place?

The Prince's residence

Which prince?

It's me, Prince De Zhao

So you are all bad guys

Brother Li, don't misunderstand

My teacher has something to discuss with you

Zhao Guang Yi is your enemy

and is also an opponent of the Prince

You must fight together against Zhao Guang Yi

I'll seek revenge myself

You can't fight him all by yourself

You'd already have been dead if not for me

It's out of good intention that Prince invites you here

I promise you but with a condition

What condition? Go ahead

I must kill Zhao Guang Yi with my own hands

What?

Yes, with my own eyes I saw

that assassin go into the Prince's residence

An eye for an eye

"Loyalty"

Would you regret it?

For the sake of Teacher

I'm willing to do anything without regret

Prince, are you agreeable to my plan?

Your plan is good, but...

a son succeeding father's throne is reasonable

The Agreement is just the Empress's idea;

nobody knows what's on her mind

But nephew fighting against uncle

would become a laughing stock to the world

Just focus to accomplish important matters, not trivial

Last time your uncle sent someone

to sneak in to destroy the evidence

He can indeed send people after you again

But he has no point doing that

It's hard to say

Alright, go by your plan then

You hide here and sulk

And disregard everyone else

You don't like it here, is that it?

I know you are thinking about your wife

ls your wife beautiful?

I'm not married

Xiang Ling

Xiang Ling...why did I ask you to come here?

That's right, my teacher asked me here

to come inform you to find him

Don't bother, you can go back

I need someone who can be trusted

and a secure place

Can you do that for me?

Yes, leave them to me

I've a very detailed plan in mind

Brother Li...

Why are you following me?

I love to

Wait for me

There' re shades here

How far do we have to go?

I suppose we're almost there

Suppose? Wild guess!

How come we're living in such a deserted place?

In order to be close to those ruffians

Are they ruffians?

Don't look down on them

They used to be generals of Tang Dynasty

No wonder they are finished so soon

Be careful, don't touch them

What's to fear?

A near miss

Right? I told you not to touch anything

That was a close shave

I like that

Li Lang

Hey Black Leopard, it's you... Where are the others?

Here

Li Lang, look at your tummy

I just couldn't recognize you

We haven't seen each other for 5 years

How come there are so many traps here?

My mom taught me

Your mom is really something

Right

Where's Golden Tiger?

Golden Tiger, you're great

You'll be falling into the quagmire

Stop joking

Haven't seen you for 5 years, you've a beautiful wife

She's not my wife

You still don't admit it?

I've married 5 times since you left

My 4th wife gave birth to twins

Really? Congratulations

How's auntie?

She talks about you all the time

I'll bring you to her now

It's just ahead

Okay

Brothers, Brother Li is back, come out

Who's coming back?

It's Li Lang

How are you...

He is a newcomer

You are a newcomer

How are you?

Brother Li, do you know me?

Yes

Have some wine please

Some more

Try this

Old sir, alright, let me try it

Li Lang, come...

I'll introduce you to my wives

We just got married, she's the 20th

241: h

Right, 24th...greet Brother

Brother

Sister

Meet the 23rd, she's soon going to give birth

Brother

This is the 21st, my new-born son

So cute

See if he looks like me

How are you?

Greet uncle

Golden Tiger, I don't need to meet all your wives

Right, I'll bring you to my mom

Tiger is back

and has brought a girl to see you

Mothers, Li Lang is coming to see you

Auntie

Come over, come, sit

Mom, he's brought a girl

Look carefully, she's beautiful

Come over

Me?

Go

Go... Mom calls you

What's your name?

Xiang Ling

Oh?

Xiang Ling

What a good name, come, sit

This girl is really good

That's right, she's got a nose which indicates riches

Her hands are good for making a living

Tiger, you'd better marry her

That's right, marry her

Oh Mom, how can that be?

She's a friend of Li Lang's

Hey, tell me honestly

why are you here?

I want to use your lair for a couple of days

You must want to hold a wedding feast

Not necessarily

Though our place is small,

we have an experience

with over 20 wedding feasts

If not for a wedding feast would you lend me the place?

Why not?

Your granddad and mine are old friends,

not to mention our fathers, too

We are almost like brothers

All you need to do is ask

Did you want money?

Money? I could make a couple of million

with my brothers easily

Do you want to be a government official?

Government official?

Yes, do you want to?

Tiger, what's she talking about?

Government official?

Tiger...

Mom, she said she could make me a government official

Really, hurry and give her our consent

Promise her then

I did

You have consented

Yes

Are your people reliable?

All of them are more or less my relatives

There's no one else except my mother, my wives

my brothers and sisters

and my children

In war, family holds supreme

do you think my mom would betray me?

Tiger...have you given your consent?

I'll tell you later

People here are either my brothers

or my children

They won't plot against me

These kids are naughty

Let me ask you... despite not being

from the government, how can you make me an official?

Oh, not me, it's the Prince

The Prince

This Armour

is made from

9,999 gold thread and pieces

Weighing 80 catties it's spear and sword proof

Great, it's really great

Prince, with this gold Armour

you need not worry anymore wherever you go

You'll return home to pay respects to your ancestors

Yes

Then burn some incense for me

I will

I'm pleased that you're now on good terms with uncle

There's something which I'd rather keep from you

What is it? Speak

A couple of days ago, someone wanted to assassinate me

It was fortunate that Chen Bo was there

or else I wouldn't be able to see you today

The Prince will go to pay respects to the ancestors

We should make use of this opportunity to strike

He has got hundreds of guards around him

How are we going to attack him?

When he is unprepared

Whenever he goes out,

there are 3 identical sedans waiting for him

How are we supposed to know which one he's in?

Even if we knew,

he's protected by his gold Armour

How could we kill him

It's his gold armour that would take his life

Your Highness, please have a look

This river is the only route which must be passed

The flow being rapid, they must cross by wooden raft

We have tested

the water displacement with the sedan on board the raft

We've made a mark there

The Prince's gold armour

is made from 9,999 gold pieces

and weighs at least 70 to 80 catties

Once the Prince gets on the raft

the displacement of water will be different

At that time, it will be much easier

to take his life

Your Highness, we shouldn't miss such great opportunity

Delaying decision won't leave us enough time to set up;

either you or he would die

You decide

You as the Prime Minister

don't even know someone sneaked into Prince's residence

and tried to assassinate him

I deserve death

ls it Guang Yi's idea?

I can guarantee with my own life

that it isn't Prince Jin's idea

In order to settle the disputes between the two of them

Come tomorrow I'll announce that

in case the Prince is killed

the Agreement will automatically be torn up

On the other hand, if something happens to Guang Yi

the Prince will be fully responsible for it

"Jin Residence"

Where is His Highness?

In the garden

Got you

De Zhao, where're you running to?

Your Highness

Zhao Pu, you're here just in good time

I've something to talk to you

Did you send killers to assassinate the Prince?

Yes, he's now like this fish

under my control

Your Highness, you can't kill the Prince

If you do

His Majesty will tear up the Agreement

I'll have this done tactfully

so he can't blame me

Just now His Majesty told me

that in case the Prince is killed,

the Agreement will automatically be torn up

Really?

In fact, I'm here just to tell you this

Call the killers to come back immediately

It's on fire...assassins! Guard the Prince

Who are they?

Is this true?

His Majesty, this wasn't the doing of Prince Jin

The kung-fu of Prince Jin's men can hardly

behead someone from above in the rushing current

There are so many heroes in the martial arts world

As long as you can pay

you can hire any expert

Well...

In this case, I must fulfill my promise

and tear up the Agreement

Your Majesty, the Prince's body has not yet been found

No one knows for sure if he's dead or alive

Your Majesty, have mercy

and allow Prince Jin to go and find the Prince

I'll give him 10 days, go

Thank you Your Majesty

Your Majesty, I don't know if I should say this

Speak

Something about a saying 'when push comes to shove'

If the prince couldn't be found by the deadline,

would he use the same tactics

against Your Majesty?

Forgive my frankness

I'll appoint you as my personal bodyguard

to protect me

Thank you Your Majesty

Put the palace on tight security

Yes

Who killed the prince? Speak

Speak or I'll hand you over to the Emperor

Your Highness, we have not killed the prince

Our kung-fu is not good enough

to kill the prince under those circumstances

Then who did it?

Your Highness, as far as I know

only one person has such sublime skills

Who?

Chen Bo

Chen Bo?

He is the prince's man, how could he have done it?

Your Highness, there's indeed such a possibility

Where is he?

Inside

Welcome Prince

I am most honoured

Tiger, this is a present from the Prince

Thank you

Please have some tea at my humble dwelling

It's a bit small

but it's safe, welcome

Quiet...go out and play

You are all posterity of a famous family

Yes, his dad was a famous general

This kid is useless

If he could be in your favour

our family would be most grateful

Yes, when all is done

I'll give you titles and land

That's great

I know you are a man of your word,

but there's no proof

This is my jade talisman;

you could bring it with you to see me

I am most grateful

I'll never forget this

Do you know where the prince is?

No

I know nothing

Go on

Yes

If you don't speak, I'll pierce your head

Will you speak or not?

I'll speak, the prince is not dead

Where is he?

At Tiger mountain

The prince is hiding

in the lair of the bandits of the South Tang

So he wants to frame me

One plan better than the other

We will make the Prince

bear the name of a traitor

and hand him over to His Majesty

You can eliminate the ruffians and win glory

It's killing two birds with one stone

Alright, I'll go in person tomorrow to wipe them out

"Better repent than being killed"

Wait, this could be a trap

You two go and have a look

Yes

There's am bush

Let's make a detour

Stop

Appearances are deceiving, let's retrace our steps

Your Highness, there're traps everywhere

We shouldn't take the risk

You two go into the lair and find the Prince

Yes

You two listen to me

If the Prince becomes the Emperor,

our big brother will become a senior official

We too will then have a share of the rewards and

we won't be drinking in here

You need not guard the lair

Of course, by that time

we will be guarding

the prince's residence instead, right?

Right

Hey, why is that guy lying on the ground?

Let's go and have a look

Hey, wake up, useless

drunk so easily!

There's some noise inside

No, don't be suspicious, let's drink

Go in and have a look, it's much safer

Alright, go...

It's bad

Someone's coming, put him down

Lost them

Look

Distract them

Seems like someone's inside

Look

It's a trap to lure us away

Where's the Prince?

Inside

ls he dead? He better not be!

What? He's not dead

He's been drugged

If he doesn't wake up in 24 hours,

his life will be in danger

Do you have the antidote?

No

Oh, what're we going to do...

My Teacher may be able to help

Then hurry and go there

No, it takes 3 whole days to go to your Teacher's;

By that time he would have been dead

I know a short-cut which can lead us there in a day

How dare you come back to me?

Although we have failed to bring the Prince back,

he has been drugged by us

Even if he were rescued in 24 hours

he'll become an idiot

An idiot?

Teacher, the Prince has been poisoned

I'll give him the antidote, carry him in

Teacher, how's the Prince, is he alright?

How come he's expressionless?

How is he?

Teacher, how is he?

It's fortunate that you brought him here in time

He's alright now

We're lucky to have you

If not for the shortcut, the Prince would have died

I'll go and pick up some herbal medicine

You take the Prince back to his residence

Your Highness

Chen Bo wants to meet you

What is it?

Your Highness

Have you thought of becoming the Emperor?

Don't get me involved in this

You wouldn't just want to be a Prince forever!

What's wrong with that?

Wine, women, all that I want

When you become the Emperor,

you can wine & whore to your heart's content

Enough is enough

Father has been working so hard all his life

If you became the Emperor,

there'll be people doing all the work for you

Not laborious at all

It'll be no different from now

Father & uncle have made the Agreement which states

for the younger brother to succeed if the elder dies

Why should I fight with uncle then?

Maybe I should advise His Majesty

to make you the Crown Prince first...

This is even worse

It's just like with my big brother

He is constantly in fear;

afraid of being killed any time

There's still no news of him

I won't let anyone know of our conversation today

Oh? What is it?

Mom

Prince...

I want my mom...

Prince...

I want my mom...

Prince...

It's bad, he's insane

How can we be government officials now?

Chen Bo lied to us

Yes, he lied to us

No, my Teacher wouldn't lie to us

If not, why has he become like this?

I think it's not that simple

Send him in. I knew you'll be here for me

Aren't you going to ask them to get lost?

Retreat

Yes

Please

The Prince is in my hand

He's nothing but an idiot

If His Majesty knew about this,

you won't be able to get away with it

I'm not afraid

Your Highness, Chen 50's intentions are good

Brother Bo, let me ask you frankly

What do you want?

You scratch my back and I'll scratch yours

If you agree to assist His Highness,

you'll be rewarded the rest of your life

I don't care about fame or glory

I only want to find a quiet place

After ascending throne, Prince will name you as fairy

I have another condition

What condition?

I detest those evil styles

which use evil kung-fu

I don't ever want to see your killers

Your Highness, I'll risk my life for you

it'd only remain to be seen how determined you are!

Alright

These two cups of wine are from His Highness

Thank you, Your Highness

Please

Why do you have to kill us? Why?

You are so devious

The one who wants to kill you is me

We'll be going to His Majesty right away

Send the guards outside of the palace

no one is allowed to come in without my order

Yes

What is it?

Chen Bo and Prince Jin have gone to the palace

Alright, let's set off immediately

Did Chen Bo let you in?

Alright, since we've come to this

I want to know what has happened to De Zhao

The Prince is not dead but he has lost his sanity

Guang Yi, what do you want?

I want you to abdicate

I would die soon, you can't even wait?

I don't want to have unnecessary troubles

Alright, come men

All men have already been sent away

by Chen Bo

There's only you and me here.

For the sake of brotherly love, I'll let your corpse remain intact

Drink this

ls that what you mean by brotherly love?

Because of you, I promised brother'd succeed brother &

signed Agreement so that I could pass the throne to you

Once when we were out conquering the world,

I took a shot for you in order to save you

My wound has not yet recovered

When you were small and bullied by others,

in helping you out, I almost broke my hand

I won't drink this poisonous wine

Just come and kill me

You still want to kill me

Teacher

What is it?

Why do you have to do this?

What if I do?

Teacher, why do you have to betray

the Prince and join Zhao Guang Yi

and say that the Prince is alright?

Yes. why?

Now His Majesty is dead

and the Prince has become an idiot

That's why I help Zhao Guang Yi to rule the empire

What about our business?

Chen Bo,

you asked me to help fight Zhao Guang Yi

Now you change sides and break your promise

Aren't you afraid of becoming a laughing stock?

One must offer sacrifice for the greater good

Li Lang, for the sake of country and the people,

don't dwell on personal conflicts

Chen Bo,

don't try to make excuses

What you and Zhao Guang Yi did

was solely for your own vested interests

You are the slaves of power

You've been making use of other people;

even the Prince

As the prince is useless

you joined Zhao Guang Yi

You've now succeeded, so what?

I won't be subdued by Zhao Guang Yi

I must kill him with my own hands

Li Lang...

Don't stop him, let him go

Brother Li

Teacher, you shouldn't do that

Xiang Ling

Chen Bo, I don't care about your rivalry

You and the Prince once promised to make me an official

Now the Prince has become insane & His Majesty is dead,

what's to become of my position then?

Don't worry, I treasure good talent

Words are meaningless

Right

I, Chen Bo, mean every word I say

Don't talk too much

When are you going to give us the positions?

Yes, when?

After the mid-autumn, come to receive the appointment

Alright, deal

Brother Li...

Brother Li, I'll tell you some good news

He promised to make me a government official

After the mid-autumn festival,

we're to go to the capital to receive the appointments

Golden Tiger, I don't think it's that simple

I don't care

He promised me that

I've decided to go

Don't forget to come up and bid me farewell

I'll set off immediately after the mid-autumn festival

Xiang Ling, remember to come

I'm going back to tell my mom

Bye

See you then

Where do you intend to go?

I don't know, as far as possible

Can your boat take in one more person?

No

Why?

No particular reason

Why can't you take me along?

Please, take me across, why don't you say something?

Come, hurry

Go there by yourself

Come over, I can't row a boat

Come over, quick, I don't know how to swim. Help!

"Wu Ancestral Hall"

What happened to you, Master Zhang?

Why didn't you go to the capital?

I'm old and have weak eyesight

I like to lead a quiet life in here

Master Zhang, you'd better go with us

If you don't we'll be worried

What about the cows?

Cows? Why bring them to the capital?

I raised them since they were small

how could I leave them?

There's no field in the capital, don't bring them...

Where should these chicken go?

Chickens? Are you crazy?

Is my dress beautiful?

Why are you so anxious to dress up?

We have to go to the capital

One has got to be presentable

It'll take 2 days to get to the capital

By that time everything may get dirty on the journey

Dad...

Do you know where I'm bringing you?

Where?

I'm bringing you to the capital, a place full of fun

Want to study in the capital?

Brother, is everything ready yet?

Yes

Do you need to wait for Li Lang and Xiang Ling?

Yes

They are here

Xiang Ling

Mom, look, the official from the capital is here

Look, they are here to bring us to the capital

Go and welcome them

Listen everyone...

Let's all kneel to welcome Lord Chen

Kneel...

Attack

Let me go...

You should keep your promise

I've just ascended throne & must go to Taishan to pray

You go with me

Wait till I come back

I'll canonize you, and award you with Huashan

Brother Li...

Attack, arrest him

You've overestimate your ability

Li Lang

I've tried my best

Li Lang

Xiang Ling, I'll let you go

Go

I don't have a Teacher like you

Don't force me to kill you

God's grace extends to all living creatures

Honour and integrity benefit all people

Chen Bo has won glory for Sung

He will be appointed god of the Western tribe

and awarded Huashan

Thank you, Your Majesty

You'd have known of all this when you first met me

You are so devious!

Go and be your fairy
