Good morning, Mr. Phelps.

The man you're looking at, Prince Stephan,

is being imprisoned by this man, General Ramon Sabattini,

in order to force Stephan's fiancée, Francesca, to marry him,

making him a legitimate heir to the throne.

Sabattini plans to eliminate Francesca and the current monarch, Nicolai,

and then once he's on the throne, to ally with our enemies.

Your mission, Jim, should you decide to accept it,

is to stop Sabattini and rescue Stephan, Francesca and Nicolai.

As always, should you or any of your IM Force be caught or killed,

the secretary will disavow any knowledge of your actions.

This tape will self-destruct in five seconds.

Good luck, Jim.

Magicians are an obsession with Nicolai.

Power is an obsession with Sabattini.

Ambition will be the downfall of Vargas

and Buccaro.

This is Sebastian. He'll be working with you.

Bone structure's the same, should be no problem.

How about the voice?

He's been studying. Barney?

And now, Your Majesty,

if you will give me the name of someone that you wish to see...

Very good.

Who is it?

The Amsterdam Cultural Society.

You gave them permission to photograph the crown jewels.

Zastro who?

It's the magician.

Magician?

The one who will entertain us this afternoon.

The Montavia crown.

You will wear this today.

At the wedding.

- Who are you? - Francesca, I'm here to help you.

There's very little time for explanation. You must listen.

We're here to rescue you and Stephan.

Now you think you have it?

Yes, I think I know what to do.

The first bullet is real.

- The second is a blank. - Right.

Having trouble, Father?

Unfortunately and very untimely.

Please, may I help you?

She's okay.

Your Majesty.

Don't you suppose that I am tired of bowing to Sabattini?

But apparently not tired enough to adopt the new Asian plan.

Yes, but what they are proposing that's far too dangerous, Buccaro.

Disposing of Sabattini, that would not be easy.

But you have their complete backing.

If you will kill him, they will put you in total power.

Oh, yes, if all goes well.

But if the move fails, I might as well put a revolver to my head.

Our Asian friends will simply have to wait.

I understand that they're a very patient people.

Captain Buccaro.

And how are all your Asian friends?

Lmpatient, general. Colonel.

General.

Buccaro is the only man I know, Vargas,

whose corruptibility is totally incorruptible.

He's very dangerous.

He serves his purpose.

His own.

Have all the guests arrived?

Yes, all our trusted friends are here.

That should make it a very small gathering.

I will get your bride.

Vargas.

Ambition has its rewards.

And also its dangers.

I am the best chance you have.

By your leave, Your Grace.

What is the delay?

The bishop has not as yet arrived.

Can it go any faster, my son?

I'm afraid not, Father.

When do you think we will get there?

Oh, do not worry, Father.

The shortcut I took will get us to the cathedral before dusk.

The cathedral?

I want to go to the palace.

Oh, I thought you were coming from the palace, Father.

God bless you, my son.

- Your Majesty. - I am tired of waiting.

I want to see the performance.

Your Majesty, one never has the entertainment

before the ceremony.

It would be extremely inappropriate.

Your Majesty.

Your Majesty, as you recall, we had an agreement.

I was to perform promptly at 1:00.

It is now one minute past 1.

Performers do not give orders in the palace,

whatever your name is.

One, I am not a performer, I am an artiste.

Two, my name is Zastro and three, I am leaving.

No.

You idiot.

Look what you have done. You have upset him.

Zastro.

Zastro, please have patience.

Let me make myself perfectly clear.

I perform promptly at the time stated.

I have a very busy schedule.

It is now two minutes after 1.

Your grace period has expired.

I either perform or I leave.

Since you have stated the terms, why don't you leave?

No. We will have the entertainment immediately.

Not before the marriage.

Then there will be no marriage.

But, Your Majesty.

I have to sign the wedding document, do I not?

Zastro will perform.

Yes, Your Majesty.

God bless you, my son.

I will need a volunteer.

I can promise you an excitement never experienced before.

Surely, someone will volunteer.

Your Majesty?

Your Majesty?

Your Majesty?

Your Majesty.

Amazing.

Absolutely amazing.

Thank you very much, Your Majesty.

And now, for my next illusion.

Thank you, madame.

And now, Your Majesty,

if you will give me the name of someone that you wish to see.

Anyone. Make it as difficult as you can imagine.

Stephan.

Another request, Your Majesty.

I have not seen Madame Vinsky perform.

Where is she?

Madame Vinsky.

And now, if Your Majesty will write a series of numbers.

And give them to...

...Colonel Vargas for safekeeping.

Madame.

Six.

Twelve.

Twenty.

And 31.

That's it, exactly.

Those are the numbers.

A great event will take place here this afternoon.

But not the one that is planned.

I see red.

Red on a field of white.

I see many men running.

There is a man in this room.

A man who has many decisions to make.

Jim.

Jim.

- Yes, Barney? - Jim, we're in trouble.

I'll never drill into Francesca's tomb in time.

You've gotta call the whole plan off.

We can't do that. Everything's in motion.

Jim, the flooring gave way.

I fell and hit my head.

I can't see. I'm almost blind.

Barney, listen,

if you know where you are, I can talk you through.

I was above the stairs over the tombs, a few feet to the left.

All right, from the back wall, stay to your left.

- Go 14 feet to the next corridor. - Okay, Jim.

The bishop's at the gate.

And that concludes our performance, Your Majesty.

What? No. I command you to continue.

I'm sorry, Your Majesty, that would not be possible.

Why not?

The bishop has arrived, Your Majesty.

The bishop just passed through the palace gates.

Get Francesca.

Barney.

Barney, what is it?

Barney?

Some kind of pit, Jim.

It's not on my map.

Can you...? Can you get by it?

There's a ledge.

I'll keep going.

Dear friends, you are about to enter into a union,

which is most sacred and most serious.

A union which was established by God himself.

By it, he gave to men

a share in the greatest work of creation.

She has a gun.

Guards!

I want everyone out of here.

Immediately!

Forgive me, Francesca.

Amen.

You knew.

You knew that it was going to happen.

- Yes. - Then why did you not try to stop it?

Because I also foresee that Sabattini's plan will fail.

He has no future.

What about my future?

Your future would be best discussed in private.

Captain.

Madame Vinsky will be staying with us.

Would you show her to her room?

I want her buried.

Do you hear me?

I want her buried now.

Jim, I'm at the corridor. What's next?

All right. Turn right.

Go 30 feet past the second crypt.

Then turn right again.

- Three feet and you're there. - Got it.

Francesca's due to be buried in a few minutes.

Five minutes after that, she'll need air.

Close it.

Your Majesty, this is most improper.

Close it.

No.

No.

Plea...

I've got it, Jim.

All right, hurry, Barney, she needs air.

No, plea...

Jim.

She's getting oxygen, but I don't know if she's alive.

Barney?

Barney, are you all right?

Yes, Jim.

I can see.

Madame Vinsky will not be joining you.

What do you mean she will not be joining me?

She is staying on with us here at the palace.

- She cannot. - At her own request.

We have engagements.

She cannot terminate our agreement.

She can and she has.

- Now may I suggest that you leave? - No.

Captain.

Francesca.

Francesca.

I told you that this whole affair was a mistake from the start.

Now what are we going to do, general,

that there's no legitimate way left to the throne.

There is only one way left open to us.

We must eliminate both Nicolai and Stephan

and take the government by force, if necessary.

- Well, after all, what else...? - Will you let me think?

We've had enough thinking. We must act.

- Are you all right? - Yes.

- Put these on. - All right.

Come in.

- What is it? - There's a man at the gate

demanding to see you, general.

- Who? - A Roger Benedict.

I don't know him. Send him away.

He told me to show you this.

All right.

The Kratazof Diamond.

It...

It must be a fake.

We'll see.

Every stone in the jewel room is a fake.

Show Mr. Benedict in.

You have a very interesting calling card, Mr. Benedict.

Yes.

It is rather a door opener, isn't it?

How did you get it?

A man came to me several weeks ago, said he had a fortune.

A vast fortune in jewels and wanted to get rid of them.

He understood that I had some contacts.

- Where is this man? - He's dead, very tragic.

He was killed in a car accident.

Stephan.

What is it you want, Mr. Benedict?

Thirty percent of the jewels.

But you don't know where they are.

Yes, but I can find out where they are.

- How? - Prince Stephan.

But he is dead.

Yes, that's a pity.

Among my many talents is persuasion.

If he were alive, I would make him talk.

What happens if we refuse your offer?

Prince Stephan had a premonition

that he was going to meet with an accident.

He wrote a letter. I have it.

Quite incriminating.

Certain countries would pay a great deal to see that letter.

He is bluffing.

How do we know you wouldn't sell it?

You don't. You simply have to trust me.

When would you like to talk to Prince Stephan?

Now.

Have my car brought around.

Colonel Vargas, please?

Enter.

Your car is waiting, general.

Shall we?

- Yes? - This is Madame Vinsky.

I believe you have a problem.

Well, what do you mean?

The crown jewels are missing.

- How do you know that? - Never mind.

I know where they are. Do not tell Sabattini.

He intends to have you killed.

Please continue.

Do not go to the prison.

Stay at the palace.

After Sabattini leaves, come to my room.

Very well.

I will have to join you later.

- A problem has come up. - What?

It's a personal matter.

And I will continue to be sceptical, madame,

until you tell me just where the crown jewels are.

No. Not yet.

Well, Stephan is now being interrogated by a Mr. Carter.

What if he were to break down, Sabattini would get the fortune?

Stephan will not talk and his name is not Carter.

Well, when do you intend to tell me, madame?

When you are ready.

There are certain matters that must be taken care of first.

Such as?

Sabattini's removal.

But I cannot run away, madame.

Besides, certain Asian powers will back me in a bid for power.

If you accept their offer, it will cost you your life.

Your only chance is to run.

And to run with the crown jewels.

Sabattini plans to have you killed, and soon.

That's impossible.

Sabattini needs me.

For a while.

I don't believe you.

I can prove it.

How?

There is a list of officers being prepared.

A list of untrustworthy officers.

- Yes? - It is an execution list.

And your name is on it.

The list is in Sabattini's safe.

The only one that knows the combination is Sabattini.

Right, 49.

The numbers are right, 49.

- Left. - Left.

Seventy-three.

Seventy-three.

- Right. - Right.

Seven.

We shall soon see if you are right, madame.
