[upbeat music]

- Good evening, and welcome to music's biggest night.

Official YIFY movies site: YTS.MX

It's the 66th Annual Grammy Awards.

And tonight we're coming to you live

from the city of Los Angeles, where

the local population has just survived

the unthinkable-- rain.

We'll have a moment of silence for them later.

But right now, let's turn it up with an international

superstar, a multiple Grammy winner nominated

tonight for Song of the Year.

Give it up for Dua Lipa.

[cheers, applause]

[dua lipa, "training season"]

- (SINGING) Are you someone that I can give my heart to

Or just the poison that I'm drawn to?

It can be hard to tell the difference late at night

But if you really wanna go there

You should know I need someone to hold me close

Deeper than I've ever known

Whose love feels like a rodeo

Knows just how to take control

When I'm vulnerable, he's straight talking to my soul

Conversation overload

Got me feeling vertigo

Are you somebody who can go there?

'Cause I don't wanna have to show ya

If you're good then let me know ya

'Cause training season's over

I need someone to hold me close

Deeper than I've ever known

Whose love feels like a rodeo

Knows just how to take control

When I'm vulnerable, he's straight talking to my soul

Conversation overload

'Cause training season's over

Training season's over

["dance the night" playing]

Hey.

- (SINGING) Even when the tears are flowing

Grammys, make some noise!

Woo!

- (SINGING) I'll still keep the party going

Not one hair out of place

Even when the tears are flowing like diamonds on my face

I'll still keep the party going,

Not one hair out of place

Watch me dance.

["houdini" playing]

Time is passing like a solar eclipse

See you watching and you blow me a kiss

It's a moment, baby, don't let it slip

Come in closer, are you reading my lips?

They say I come and I go

Tell me all the ways you need me

I'm not here for long

Catch me or I go Houdini

I come and I go

Prove you got the right to please me

Everybody knows, catch or I go Houdini

If you're good enough, you'll find the way

Maybe you could cause a girl to change her ways

Do you think about it night and day?

Maybe you could be the one to make me stay

Everything you say is sounding so sweet

Do you practice everything that you preach?

I need something that'll make me believe

If you got it, baby, give it to me

They say I come and I go

Tell me all the ways you need me

I'm not here for long

Catch me or I go Houdini

I come and I go

Prove you've got the right to please me

Everybody knows, catch me or I go Houdini

If you're good enough you'll find a way

Maybe you could cause a girl to change her ways

Do you think about it night and day?

Maybe you could be the one to make me stay

Let's go!

(SINGING) I come and I go

Tell me all the ways you need me

I'm not here for long

Catch me or I go Houdini

I come and I go

Prove you got the right to please me

Everybody knows, catch me or I go Houdini

Houdini

Catch Me or I go Houdini

[cheers, applause]

Wow.

Are you kidding me right now?

Come on. Give it up, y'all.

[cheering]

That was insane--

Dua Lipa.

That is why she's one of the best

performers of a generation.

I am never going to look at scaffolding the same.

Did you see that thing?

Did you see that? Oh, man.

This is it. We're back.

It's the Grammys, baby. Welcome, everybody.

Welcome.

Welcome to you in the room.

Welcome to you at home.

It's the only concert that actually starts on time.

My name is Trevor Noah.

I'm your host.

And Dua Lipa was just the beginning because the Grammys

has everything, people.

We've got hip hop. We've got country.

We got rock.

We've got Afrobeats.

If it's recorded, the Academy has it.

You know, they've even got a Grammy for audiobooks.

Yeah, yeah.

I mean, they're really hard to twerk to,

but they're still great.

Yeah, chapter 1-- it was the best of times.

It was the worst of times.

Oh, and the Grammys doesn't just have everything.

It has everyone.

I mean, just look at this room, everybody.

Look at this room.

Look at the people in this room.

Give yourselves a round of applause, man.

Look at these people.

[cheering]

These people write the soundtrack to our lives.

Are you kidding me?

I mean, just look at this table over here.

Are you kidding me right now?

Look at this.

Ed Sheeran-- one of the greatest live performers

of all time, one of the greatest

songwriters of all time, flew all the way

from Taiwan to join us.

Are you kidding me? Look at this.

Mark Ronson-- one of the greatest

producers of all time.

And get this-- his mother-in-law is going

to be sitting right here. You know who she is?

Meryl Streep.

That's right.

Meryl Streep-- one of the greatest

Meryl Streeps of all time.

She's going to be in this chair.

I can't believe that Meryl Streep is here.

I really can't believe it because, I mean--

[cheering]

Oh, what?

[cheering]

You thought I was lying.

You thought I was lying.

You don't have to apologize to me.

Meryl Streep-- yes.

Yeah.

And this moment right here-- you know what that means?

It means the Grammys is going to win an Oscar.

Yeah.

I don't know how, but we just did it.

I want to thank both Academies.

Oh, thank you so much.

Thank you so much. This room is insane.

I've been looking around.

Look at this--

21 Savage.

21 Savage-- who, by the way-- by the way--

has already hit a billion streams in 2024.

The year just started-- a billion streams.

Look at that.

In fact, I actually listened earlier

today, so it's 1,000,000,001.

You're welcome, my friend.

Yeah, yeah.

Olivia Rodrigo is in the house, everybody.

[cheering]

Absolute superstar.

Tonight, Olivia is performing her smash hit "Vampire."

And you know, Olivia, I cannot wait

to see what you rhyme "bloodsucker"

with on national TV.

Yeah, ice trucker?

Fudrucker? You'll think of something.

You'll think of something.

Who else do we have in the room tonight?

Who else do we have in the room?

We've got so many people here. We've got so many people.

I know Oprah is going to be joining us, as well.

That's going to be amazing. Yep, yep.

We got-- oh, look at this--

Billie Eilish, Finneas joining us.

[cheering]

This is insane.

I mean, we've got country stars like Luke Combs.

We've got Lainey Wilson.

Oh, and in case you're wondering,

yes, Beyoncé and Jay-Z will be joining us here tonight.

There are so many stars gathered in one place.

Neil deGrasse Tyson would be getting aroused.

He'd just be like, "it's?

A constellation."

Doja Cat is here.

Doja is in the house.

[cheering]

If you haven't listened to her album,

you are wasting your ears-- one of the best pieces of work

that has ever been put out.

Doja Cat put out a song, "Paint the Town Red."

It is a banger about how she doesn't care

what anybody thinks about her.

Oh, really, Doja?

Oh, really?

Well, guess what?

We think you're pretty great.

Yeah.

Yeah, that's right.

I said what I said.

Yeah, that's right.

And it hasn't just been a great year for music.

It's also been a strange one.

It really has been a strange one.

Oh, is that Lenny Kravitz? Are you kidding?

Lenny, are you just sitting there in front of me

like you're not here?

It's Lenny Kravitz.

[applause]

This has just been a wild year.

I can't believe this right now.

No, because I was talking to some of the artists

before the show.

We were talking about how AI made this a really

strange year in music.

And to be honest with you, I'm torn on this issue.

On the one hand, it is great that the Beatles could

use AI to release a new song.

On the other hand, I've heard an AI rendition, a fake song,

of Andrea Bocelli singing "My Neck, My Back."

And, listen, it was beautiful, but it was wrong.

It was wrong.

But in terms of human artists, no one got more nominations

this year than SZA.

[cheering]

And tonight-- tonight--

she'll be performing the year's most catchy

song about a double homicide.

I cannot wait.

And speaking of killing it, yo, can we

acknowledge for a second how women have

dominated music this year?

[cheering]

In fact, check this out.

Check this out.

Seven of the eight Album of the Year nominees are women.

You got SZA.

You got Olivia Rodrigo.

You got Lana Del Rey, Miley Cyrus, Janelle Monáe.

There's a band that's already won today called boygenius.

It's three women.

That's how good a year this was for women.

Yeah.

Am I forgetting anyone in that list?

Am I forgetting anyone?

Oh, I don't know, just maybe the Person of the Year

according to Time Magazine and everyone else.

Taylor Swift is going to be here, everybody.

[cheering]

And you can tell.

You can tell that Taylor Swift is here.

Yeah.

Oh, there she is. Look at this.

Look at this.

I say the names, and they pop out.

Taylor Swift, everybody.

[cheering]

Jack Antonoff, everybody.

I like that.

We should do it like this every year.

I'm going to say the people, and they're going to walk in.

Are you seeing what's happening right now?

As Taylor Swift moves through the room,

the local economy around those tables improves.

[laughter] Can you see that?

Look at this magic right now.

Look at this magic.

Lionel Richie-- now Lionel Wealthy.

Look at that.

Look at that.

By the way, can I just say something?

Before we move on, can I just say

I think it is so unfair how NFL fans have been complaining

about the cameras cutting to Taylor Swift,

like she's controlling the cameras at the games.

Just let her live. Let her live.

In fact, tonight, on Taylor's behalf,

you know what I'm going to do?

I'm going to give her a break.

Every time they mention Taylor Swift,

I'm going to get revenge.

Every time someone says "Taylor Swift,"

I'm going to cut the cameras to someone who played football.

That's what I'll do.

Cut-- bam, just like that.

Oh, yeah, you like that Terry Crews?

You like that, Terry Crews?

You better fix your face, Terry.

Yeah, we're watching you all night, Terry.

No relaxing for you.

Do you work for the CIA, Terry?

Huh?

Huh?

I can read lips, Terry.

You better watch what you say.

[laughter]

Oh, and also, everyone, pay attention to this.

This is really important.

Taylor Swift is one of only four artists

who has ever won Album of the Year three times.

The others are Frank Sinatra, Paul Simon, and Stevie Wonder.

So if Taylor wins tonight, she will

become the first artist ever to win

Album of the Year four times.

So we could see history made tonight.

Also, if you're into performances

by living legends, then tonight is definitely

your night because we've got a special performance

by Stevie Wonder.

Billy Joel is going to be performing his first new song

in 30 years.

And get this.

Joni Mitchell is going to be performing at the Grammys

for the first time ever--

ever, people.

[applause]

Are you kidding me?

That's right.

The Grammys has everyone, unlike TikTok.

Yeah, because, I mean, you saw that, right?

Universal has just pulled all of their artists

off of TikTok.

All the music is off TikTok.

So right now, the CEO of TikTok is probably sitting at home

watching this show eating ice cream,

crying, seeing all of his exes in one room.

And you know what, TikTok?

Shame on you.

Shame on you for ripping off all of these artists.

Yeah, shame on you.

[applause]

How dare you do that.

That's Spotify's job.

[laughter]

Now, I must warn you--

I must warn you, this show is live.

In case you couldn't tell, this show is live.

So anything can happen.

This is like flying in a Boeing airplane.

One minute there's a door.

The next minute, we're outside.

[laughter]

And my job as host is to just keep

the good vibes going tonight.

And I make sure that Katt Williams doesn't say

anything about me after the show,

and then everyone had a good time.

So let's get straight into it.

If you got me, I got you.

We doing this, people?

[cheering]

Well, let's get into it.

To present our first award of the night

is a five-time Grammy winner and 34-time Grammy

nominee who's had a huge impact on the world of music.

In fact, just this past Thursday,

she received the Impact Award from the Recording Academy's

Black Music Collective.

She's a trailblazer, an incredible talent,

and she's the official majority stakeholder in Christmas.

Please welcome the one and only Mariah Carey.

[mariah carey, "fantasy"]

- (SINGING) Oh, when you walk by every night

Talking sweet and looking fine

I get kind of--

Thank you, Trevor.

Thank you, all.

The gifted artists in our first category tonight

understand the kind of tremendous impact

a great performance can have.

I admire all five of the extraordinary women nominated

this year in this category.

And yes, this year all five nominees are women.

[cheering and applause]

These are the outstanding nominees

for Best Pop Solo Performance.

"Flowers," Miley Cyrus.

- (SINGING) I can buy myself flowers.

Write my name in the sand.

- "Paint the Town Red," Doja Cat.

- (SINGING) She a rebel, she put her foot to the pedal.

- "What Was I Made For?" from the motion picture

'Barbie', Billie Eilish.

- (SINGING) What was I made for?

"Vampire," Olivia Rodrigo.

- (SINGING) Blood sucker, dream crusher.

- "Anti-hero," Taylor Swift.

- (SINGING) Always rooting for the anti-hero.

- And the Grammy goes to--

"Flowers," Miley Cyrus.

- (SINGING) I can buy myself flowers

Write my name in the sand

Talk to myself for hours

Say things we don't understand

I can take myself dancing

And I can hold my own hand

Yeah, I can love me better than you can

Can love me better, I can love me better, baby

Can love me better

I can love me better, baby

Paint my nails cherry red

- This MC is going to stand by this MC for this

because this is just too iconic.

Oh my God, I just got stuck in the rain in traffic

and thought I was going to miss this moment.

And I could have missed the award, that's fine.

But not Mariah Carey.

I just saw you at the Hollywood Bowl.

It was everything.

I got sat in my lucky number three seat,

and so there's a story I want to tell

that sums up this moment.

And I wasn't going to tell it, but now Mariah is here.

So there was a little boy that all he wanted for his birthday

was a butterfly.

And so his parents gave him a butterfly net.

And he was so excited.

He just went outside out in the sun

and started swinging and swinging.

But with no luck, he sat down on the ground.

He finally let go and he surrendered.

And he was OK that.

He wasn't going to capture this beautiful butterfly.

And right when he did is when the butterfly came and landed

right on the tip of his nose.

And this song, "Flowers," is my butterfly.

Thank you.

Yes!

- (SINGING) I can buy myself flowers

Write my name in the sand

Talk to myself for hours

Congratulations, Miley Cyrus.

All right, time for some more great music.

Our next performer is nominated for Best Country

Solo Performance for a song originally

sung by one of his heroes.

This is Luke Combs.

Take a look.

- My dad had a 1988 Ford F-150 pickup truck.

Had a cassette player in it.

My dad would play me that Tracy Chapman self-titled album.

That song, "Fast Car," it was my favorite song before I even

knew what a favorite song was.

The idea to do "Fast Car"--

I've been playing that song since I

could play guitar, honestly.

I just love that song.

So when I went into the studio to record my most

recent record, which was getting old,

and I was like, what if we just did

this cover of "Fast Car," just because I wanted to do it.

I'm not doing it for anybody else.

I'm just doing it for me.

Tracy's obviously written one of the best

songs for a few generations.

You hear--

- -it's already iconic, before you've even heard the words.

Once you finally get to that chorus--

(SINGING) I-- I--

Right?

Like, everybody's screaming that.

(SINGING) I-- I had a feeling that I belonged.

You get to see people have the experience

that you had with them.

It can be felt and related to by all kinds

of people around the world.

Tracy is such an icon and one of the best songwriters

that I think any of us will ever be around to see,

and it's just such a cool full-circle moment for me.

Just to be associated with her in any way

is super humbling for me.

[tracy chapman, "fast car"]

[crowd cheering]

(SINGING) You got a fast car

I want a ticket to anywhere

Maybe we make a deal

Maybe together we can get somewhere

Any place is better

Starting from zero, got nothing to lose

Maybe we'll make something

Me, myself, I got nothing to prove

You got a fast car

And I got a plan to get us out of here

Been working at the convenience store

Managed to save just a little bit of money

Won't have to drive too far

Just to cross the border and into the city

And you and I can both get jobs

Finally see what it means to be living

See, my old man's got a problem

He live with the bottle, that's the way it is

He says his body's too old for working

His body's too young to look like his

My mama went off and left him

Wanted more from life than he could give

I said, somebody's got to take care of him

I quit school and that's what I did

You got a fast car

Is it fast enough so we can fly away?

We got to make a decision

Leave tonight or live and die this way

'Cause I remember when you were driving

Driving in your car

Speed so fast, I felt like I was drunk

City lights lay out before us

And your arm felt nice wrapped around my shoulder

And I, I had a feeling that I belonged

I, I had a feeling I could be someone

Be someone, be someone

[crowd cheering]

You got a fast car

We go cruisin', entertain ourselves

Still ain't got a job

So I work in the market as a checkout girl

I know things will get better

You'll find work, and I'll get promoted

And we'll move out of the shelter

Buy a bigger house and live in the suburbs

So I remember when we were driving

Driving in your car

Speed so fast, I felt like I was drunk

City lights lay out before us

And your arm felt nice wrapped around my shoulder

And I, I had a feeling that I belonged

I, I had a feeling I could be someone

Be someone, be someone

You got a fast car

I got a job that pays all our bills

You stay out drinkin' late at the bar

See more of your friends than you do your kids

I'd always hoped for better

Thought maybe together, you and me'd find it

I got no plans, I ain't goin' nowhere

Take your fast car and keep on drivin'

'Cause I remember when we were drivin'

Drivin' in your car

Speed so fast, I felt like I was drunk

City lights lay out before us

And your arm felt nice wrapped around my shoulder

And I, I had a feeling that I belonged

I, I had a feeling I could be someone

Be someone, be someone

[crowd cheering]

You got a fast car

It's fast enough so you can fly away

We got to make a decision

Leave tonight or live and die this way

[cheering, applause]

- That's right, that's right, that's right, that's right,

that's right.

Luke Combs, and what a surprise--

the legendary Tracy Chapman, everybody.

Thank you so much for that.

Thank you so much for that.

We'll be right back with performances

by SZA and Billie Eilish.

More Grammys after this.

- The 66th Grammy Awards is sponsored by Hilton.

Hilton, for the stay.

- (SINGING) If you want to be with me

- Please welcome two Latin Grammy award winners--

Christina Aguilera and Maluma.

[applause]

- (SINGING) If you want to be with me

I can make your wish come true

You gotta make a big impression

Hola, Maluma.

The two of us are proud to stand together

on the Grammys stage to present an award that

recognizes some of the most exciting Latin music

in the world today.

Así es, Christina.

And I would say it's some of the most

exciting music in any language, anywhere on Earth today.

Estos son los nominees for Best Music Urbana Album.

[music playing]

"Saturno," Rauw Alejandro.

- (SINGING) --sus nenas

A dar una vuelta

- "Mañana Será Bonito," Karol G.

(SINGING) Te tenía bonito

- (SINGING) Está nuevacita, salió--

"Data," Tiny.

- (SINGING) --le caen miles

Yo soy su cone, yo soy su dealer

- And the Grammy goes to--

- Que viva Colombia--

Karol G.

(SINGING) Qué fue?

No pues que muy tragadito?

Qué haces buscándome el la'o

Si sabes que yo errores no repito?

Dile a tu nueva bebé

[laughs]

Hi, everybody.

My name is Karol G. I am from Medellin, Colombia,

and this is my first time at Grammys,

and this is my first time holding my own Grammy.

I'm super happy.

I'm super nervous.

I'm super excited to be in front of so many legends

that I admire and respect.

This is such a beautiful thing.

My album has given me the best memories

in my own life, my whole life.

My fans that came and enjoyed my album,

they give motivation and inspiration with me

and heal with me.

Thank you so much.

I promise you to give you my best always.

And I hope that this is the first of so many.

So thank you, everybody.

Tiny and Rauw.

And Latinos!

- (SINGING) No pues que muy tragadito?

Qué haces buscándome el la'o

Si sabes que yo errores no repito?

- Congratulations, Karol G. All right,

it is time for this year's leading Grammy nominee,

with nine nominations for her album SOS,

and she has already won two Grammys today.

This has been a year to remember for SZA.

[cheering, applause]

- I couldn't figure out who I wanted to be on this album

because I had so many points to prove.

SOS took about five years for me to finish and put out.

I consulted the water about every aspect of this album.

I never feel nervous in the ocean when

I'm swimming in open water.

I loved the isolation, the vastness, the emptiness.

I definitely feel like fear and anxiety

are a part of who I am.

My intense fear is part of the reason why I

have a lot of energy on stage.

I get to, like, leap around and jump around

and scream and shake my head and do all these things.

My biggest thought in my head every night was, like,

am I going to do good at this show?

My personal lesson is to get out of my own head

and deciding what kind of person I want to be

and not feeling bad about that.

The heights that I've reached are

so much bigger than anything I could

have imagined for myself.

Being the most-nominated person at the Grammys is a blessing.

I used to cry just imagining what I would say on stage

if it ever happened to me.

But now it represents the culmination

of everything that's happened in my entire career.

[cheering, applause]

[music - sza, "snooze"]

(SINGING) I'll touch that fire for you

I do that three, four times again, I testify for you

I told that lie, I'd kill that bitch

I do what all of them around you scared to do, I'm not

Long as you juggin' out here for me, I got it

Mobbin', schemin', lootin', hide your bodies

Long as you dreamin' 'bout me, no problem

I don't got nobody, just with you right now

Tell the truth, I look better under you

I can't lose when I'm with you

How can I snooze and miss the moment?

You just too important

Nobody do body like you do

I can't lose when I'm with you

How can I snooze and miss the moment?

You just too important

Nobody do body like you do, you

How you frontin' on me and I'm the main one tryin'?

How you blame it on me and you the main one lyin'?

How you threatening to leave and I'm the main one cryin'?

Just trying to be your everything

Main one, how you frontin' on me and I'm the main one lyin'?

Yes, I'm the main one

How you threatening to leave, and I'm the main one cryin'?

[music - sza, "kill bill"]

(SINGING) I might kill my

ex Uh-oh

Not the best

idea Ah-ah

His new girlfriend's next

She just--

How'd I get here?

- -get it

I might kill my ex

I might

I still love him, though

I don't

Rather be in jail than alone

Well-- well-- well--

I'm a fan even though I was salty

Hate to see you with some other broad, know you happy

Hate to see you happy if I'm not the one drivin'

I'm so mature

I'm so mature

I'm so mature, I got me a therapist to tell me

there's other men

But I don't want none, I just want you

If I can't have you, no one should

I might

I might kill my ex

Not the best idea

His new girlfriend's next

How'd I get here?

I might kill my ex

I still love him though

Rather be in jail than alone

I get the sense that it's a lost cause

I get the sense that you might really love her

This text gon' be evidence

This text is evidence

I tried to ration with you

No murders or crime of passion

But damn, you was out of reach

You was at the farmers market with your perfect peach

Now I'm in the basement planning home invasion

You got me singin' over a beat

I'm so mature

I'm so mature

I'm so mature I got me a therapist to tell me

there's other men

I don't want none

I just want you

If I can't have you, no one should

I might kill my ex

Not the best idea

His new girlfriend's next

She left me no choice

I might kill my ex

I might

I still love him though

I do

Rather be in jail than alone

I did it!

Ah!

Did it all for love

I did it all on no drugs

I did all of this sober

Don't you know I did it all for us?

I did it all for love

I did all this on no drugs

I did all of this sober

Don't you know I did it for us

I just killed my ex

Not the best idea

I killed his girlfriend

She left me no, no choice

I said, I might kill my ex

I still love him though

Rather be in hell than alone

[cheering, applause]

- Up next, Billie Eilish sings her Barbie smash,

then Miley Cyrus sings "Flowers" for the first time

on television.

This is CBS.

- The 66th Grammy Awards is sponsored by Mastercard.

Seeding the change we want to see in the world, priceless.

[upbeat music]

- Welcome back to the Grammys, coming to you live

at the Crypto.com Arena-- the only thing connected to crypto

that's not in prison yet.

I'm actually sitting here now with Billie Eilish

and Finneas's mom and dad.

How amazing is that, y'all?

Huh?

Congratulations to both of you.

I mean, the two of you, you have two

incredibly brilliant children.

My only question is, why didn't you make more-- like, more?

Why stop at two?

You're leaving Grammys on the table, people.

You know how many more Grammys you could have won?

Just two? You have the perfect formula.

You could have done the thing.

Look, I'm just saying, think about it.

Think about it. You've got a winning formula.

Think about it. All right.

We're here together as proud parents,

and I know how excited we are for this next performance.

Singing "What Was I Made For?" written

for the motion picture Barbie, please welcome Billie Eilish.

[cheers, applause]

[BILLIE EILISH, "WHAT WAS I MADE FOR?"]

(SINGING) I used to float

Now I just fall down

I used to know

But I'm not sure now

What I was made for?

What was I made for?

Taking a drive

I was an ideal

Looked so alive

It turns out I'm not real

Just something you've paid for

What was I made for?

'Cause I-- I--

I don't know how to feel

But I want to try

I don't know how to feel

But someday, I might

Someday, I might.

[vocalizing]

When did it end

All the enjoyment

I'm sad again

But don't tell my boyfriend

It's not what he's made for

But what was I made for?

'Cause I-- 'cause I--

I don't know how to feel

But I want to try

I don't know how to feel

But someday I might

Someday I might

I think I forgot how to be happy

Something I'm not

But something I can be

Something I wait for

And something I'm made for

Something I'm made for

[cheers, applause]

[upbeat music]

- Coming up, Miley Cyrus delivers "Flowers"

for the first time on television,

the legendary Joni Mitchell gives her first

ever Grammy performance, and Stevie Wonder

pays tribute to Tony Bennett.

This is CBS.

- For the first time on TV, U2 take us inside The Sphere.

This is CBS.

[upbeat music]

- Welcome back to the 66th Grammy Awards.

That's right, 66.

Music's Biggest Night is still younger

than America's next president.

Up next, performing her global smash hit "Flowers"

from her album Endless--

Endless Summer Vacation for the first

time ever on television-- she's already won a Grammy tonight--

this is Miley Cyrus.

[cheers, applause]

[music playing]

- Endless Summer Vacation is defined by bathing suits.

When I wrote "Flowers," I think part of its magic

is that I had no expectations.

I have a healthy relationship with success and numbers,

and know that even though they may excite me,

they do not define me.

[miley cyrus, "flowers"]

When I see other people dancing to "Flowers" the way

that I dance to "Flowers," it makes me so happy

that I could cry.

(SINGING) I can buy myself flowers

(SPEAKING) What do you guys want to really know?

You don't want to know this.

Do you want to know what conditioner I use?

I just want to be the artist that my idols

would be proud of--

Tina, Patti, Dolly, Celine, Whitney.

The reason I'm so excited when I get to sing this song

live is because I've literally only sang it live twice.

Why I'm performing at the Grammys-- so

I can lay in bed on February 5 and watch a video of myself

performing at the Grammys.

That is, like, actually the most honest

answer I could give you.

I thought about it this morning.

When I was rehearsing for the Grammys I thought,

why am I doing this.

And I was like, oh, yeah, for me.

When my future self looks back on this moment,

she's going to say, you look good.

[cheers, applause]

[miley cyrus, "flowers"]

(SINGING) We were good, we were gold

Kind of dream that can't be sold

Ooh, we were right 'til we weren't

Built a home then watched it burn

Well, I didn't want to leave you

I didn't want to fight

I started to cry then remembered I--

Oh, I can buy myself flowers

Write my name in the sand

(SPEAKING) Why are you acting like you don't know this song?

(SINGING) Stay out for hours

See things you don't understand

Ooh, I can take myself dancing

Yeah, I can hold my own hand

Yeah, I can love me better than you can

Can love me better

I can love me better, baby

Can love me better

I can love me better, baby

Paint my nails cherry red

Match the roses that you left

Ooh, no remorse, no regret

I forgive every word you said

(SPEAKING) But don't forget it.

(SINGING) Oh, I didn't want to leave you, baby

I didn't want to fight.

I started to cry then remembered I--

Oh, I can buy myself flowers

Write my name in the sand

Talk to myself for hours

Say things you don't understand

Oh, I can take myself dancing, babe

I can hold my own hand

Yeah, I can love me better than you can

Can love me better

I can love me better, baby

Can love me better

I can love me better, baby

Can love me better

I can love me better, baby

Can love me better

Ooh, I-- I didn't want to leave you, but I had to

I didn't want to fight, but we did

Started to cry then remembered

(SPEAKING) I just won my first Grammy!

(SINGING) I can buy myself flowers

Write my name in the sand

Talk to myself for hours, baby

Say things you don't understand, and you never will

Oh, I can take myself dancing

Yeah, I can hold my own hand

Yeah, I can love me better than--

Yeah, i can love me better than you can

Can love me better

I can love me better, baby

Can love me better

I can love me better

Can love me better

I can love me better, baby

Can love me better

[cheers, applause]

Can love me better

I can love me, can love me

Can love me better

I can love me better, baby

Can love me better

I can love me, can love me

Can love me better

I can love me better, baby

Can love me better

I can love me, can love me

Can love me better

I can love me better, baby

Can love me better

I can love me better

I can love me better than you can

[cheers, applause]

That's right.

Miley Cyrus, everybody.

Keep it going.

Miley Cyrus that was so beautiful.

Talk about live.

And thank you so much, Miley.

Thank you so much for reminding us that we

can all buy ourselves flowers.

Thank you for that.

I just wish you had reminded us to also water them because now

I've got a house full of dead begonias,

but I still love this song.

Still love this song.

All right, before we move on.

Before we move on, a few bits of housekeeping, everybody.

Please remember to keep your speeches short

so we have time for everyone, right?

We're trying to keep the show under 10 hours this time.

And if you go too long, there's going

to be consequences, right?

We're going to get Kelly Clarkson

to cover one of your songs better than you ever could.

So please, please listen to what I'm saying.

Also, I know everyone is excited that Dr. Dre is here,

but please stop asking him for a prescription for Ozempic.

He's not that kind of doctor.

He has a PhD in literature.

All right.

To present our next award, I'm thrilled

to welcome a great artist and seven-time Grammy

winner, including a new one just today,

please give it up for Kacey Musgraves.

- (SINGING) And I think we've seen enough, seen enough

To know that you ain't ever gonna come down

So why don't you giddy up, giddy up

And ride straight out of this town, you and your high

- 10 years ago, I came to the Grammys for the first time.

And I was honored to win Best Country Album.

And I'm also honored to be here tonight.

Each of these nominees would be winning in this category

for the first time.

Here they are.

[music playing]

- (SINGING) I guess wrong can look like.

- "Rolling Up the Welcome Mat," Kelsea Ballerini.

- (SINGING) When you're playing home in a penthouse, baby.

- "Brothers Osborne," Brothers Osborne.

- (SINGING) On the road is nobody is nobody.

"Zach Bryan," Zach Bryan.

(SINGING) One small victory.

- (SINGING) I will stand my ground.

- "Rustin' in the Rain," Tyler Childers.

- (SINGING) Bad man lookin' for takers.

- "Bell Bottom Country," Lainey Wilson.

- (SINGING) Watermelon moonshine.

[music playing]

- And the Grammy goes to--

hold on-- Lainey Wilson.

[cheers and applause]

[MUSIC - LAINEY WILSON, "WATERMELON MOONSHINE"]

(SINGING) Moonshine

We cut the burn with a little lime

Parkin' back in them kudzu vines

I was his and every bit of that boy was mine

Too young to know what love was

But we were learnin' on a sweet buzz

There's never nothin' like the first time

And mine's always gonna taste like

Woo, um.

This is absolutely wild, y'all.

This is my very first Grammys.

And um--

[cheers and applause]

- -thank you so much to my collaborators, Jay Joyce,

Jason, the co-writers, the musicians,

anybody who had anything to do with this record.

It has truly changed my life.

I am from a farming community in Northeast Louisiana,

a little town of 200 people.

And-- and I'm a fifth generation farmer's daughter.

And I would consider myself a farmer too.

And everybody that I surround myself with,

I think they're farmers too, but they're story farmers.

And it's about getting up every single day

and planting those seeds and watering them.

And watching them grow.

And sometimes when you find the right farming community,

you can have a harvest of a lifetime.

And I truly believe that.

And I think that's exactly what this is tonight.

God bless every single one of y'all.

Thank you, Jesus.

Thank you so much for the Recording Academy,

and thank you to my fans.

I love y'all so much.

- (SINGING) Turn up the music, turn down the lights

I got a feeling

- Please welcome last year's Record

of the Year winner, Lizzo.

[cheering and applause]

- (SINGING) All right, it's about damn time

Turn up the music, let's celebrate

I've got a feeling I'm gonna be OK, OK

What's up, everybody?

[rattling]

to the all-time greats from Stevie Wonder,

to Prince, to Alicia Keys, to Beyoncé.

[cheering and applause]

These are our soulfully gifted nominees for Best R&B Song.

"Angel."

- (SINGING) Let go, took a little sun

kiss just to look like this

God sent you an angel

"Back to Love."

- (SINGING) Bring you back to love.

"ICU."

(SINGING) I see you.

I breathe you.

"On My Mama."

(SINGING) I look fly.

I look too good.

Put that on my--

"Snooze."

- (SINGING) How can I snooze and miss the moment?

[dramatic music]

- And the Grammy goes to--

Solana Rowe, SZA!

[cheering and applause]

- (SINGING) How can I snooze and miss the moment?

You just too important

Nobody do body like you do

I can't lose when I'm with you

How can I snooze and miss the moment?

You just too important

Nobody do body like you

do [screaming]

I'm sorry.

I'm out of breath because I was changing,

and then I took a shot, and I ran here.

But Lizzo and I have been friends since 2013

when we were both on a tiny Red Bull tour

together opening up in small rooms for, like, 100 people.

And to be on this stage with her so amazing.

I'm so grateful.

I would like to thank my parents--

my mom and my dad--

God, Top Dog Punch, all of TDE, and my siblings at TDE,

to my godparents, to my niece.

I just-- I'm sorry.

I'm just really overwhelmed.

[cheering and applause]

I mean, you don't really understand.

I came really, really far, and I can't

believe this is happening.

And it feels very fake.

And I'm-- hi, Taylor.

I love you.

I'm just very grateful, and I'm not an attractive crier.

Have a good evening.

Goodbye.

(SINGING) When I'm with you

How can I snooze and miss the moment?

You just too important

Nobody do body like you do

Oh, man.

Congratulations, SZA.

Oh, that is so amazing.

What a beautiful night.

Look at this, ladies-- give it up for the legendary Billy

Joel, everybody.

Joining us here tonight, Billy Joel

is going to be performing his first new single in 30 years.

And, you know, Billy, I was actually

thinking how wild this moment is, how serendipitous it is.

Between the two of us, we have sold out Madison

Square Garden 152 times.

Do you know how wild that is?

Have you thought about that?

How many of those did you do?

Billy, I don't count.

I don't count.

I know what we do together.

I know what we work on together.

I just know that we've put equal effort in, Billy,

and that's all that matters.

I'm a great man.

I don't count these things. Thank you so much.

Billy Joel.

All right, tonight, Billy Joel is

going to be performing his first new single

in three decades.

And, I mean, I can't wait for it.

You can't wait for it.

It's going to be really, really special.

But let's

- Return now to the Grammy stage

with a three time Grammy award winner, who earned six more

nominations, including Album of the Year

as well as Record of the Year and Song

of the Year for the number she's about to perform for us.

Give it up for Olivia Rodrigo.

[cheering]

[olivia rodrigo, "vampire"]

- (SINGING) Hate to give the satisfaction,

asking how are you doing now

How's the castle built off paper

you pretend to care about?

Just what you wanted

Look at you, cool guy, you got it

I see the parties and the diamonds

sometimes when I close my eyes

Six months of torture, you sold some forbidden paradise

I loved you truly

Gotta laugh at this stupidity

'Cause I've made some real big mistakes

You make the worst one look fine

I should've known it was strange

You only come out at night

I used to think I was smart

You made me look so naive

The way you sold me for parts, as you sunk your teeth into me

Oh, bloodsucker, dream crusher

Bleedin' me dry like a damn vampire

Every girl I ever talked to told me you were bad, bad news

You called them crazy

God, I hate the way I called them crazy too

You're so convincing

How do you lie without flinching?

- (SINGING) How do you lie? How do you lie?

How do you lie?

- (SINGING) What a mesmerizing, paralyzing,

tragic little thrill

Can't figure out just how you do it

And God knows I never will

Went for me and not her

'Cause girls your age know better

I've made some real big mistakes

You make the worst one look fine

I should've known it was strange

You only come out at night

I used to think I was smart

You made me look so naive

The way you sold me for parts, as you sunk your teeth into me

Oh, blooksucker, dream crusher

Bleedin' me dry like a damn vampire

You said it was true love

And wouldn't that be hard?

You can't love anyone because that

would mean you had a heart

I tried to help you out

Now I know that I can't

'Cause how you think's the kind of thing I'll never understand

Oh, oh

I've made some big mistakes

You make the worst one look fine

I should've known it was strange

You only come out at night

I used to think I was smart

You made me look so naive

The way you sold me for parts

You sunk your teeth into me

Oh, bloodsucker, dream crusher

Bleedin' me dry like a damn vampire

[cheering]

- Up next, we join U2 from the Sphere in Las Vegas.

Then Stevie Wonder, Annie Linux, Lenny Kravitz,

Jon Batiste, Oprah, and Fantasia

Barrino honor the music legends we lost this past year.

This is CBS.

[music playing]

- All right, we're back at the Grammys

with all the stars that weren't on Epstein's list.

Our next award presentation is pretty special.

We are leaving Los Angeles for a moment

and going to Las Vegas and the venue everybody's been

talking about this past year.

Now, remember, no television cameras have ever been allowed

inside until right now.

So let's go to one of the most groundbreaking

and beloved bands of all time, U2 at The Sphere.

[cheering]

All right.

[u2, "atomic city"]

"Atomic City!"

- (SINGING) Come all you stars fallin' out of the sky

Come all you angels forgetting to fly

Come all who feel we're not alone

All UFOs come on your way home

Alone, that's no way to be carrying on

Come on, we're on a future that's long

Gone, in look of a song

You just have to be right one more time then you're wrong

Atomic City, Atomic

Oh, oh.

Atomic City, Atomic

Oh, oh

I'm free

Where you are is where I'll be

I'm free so unexpectedly

Come all who serve above and below

Come all believers and all who don't know

Come quick, come soon, comme ci, comme ca

Let me dive into your eyes and blah, blah, blah

Guitar, she pulls the strings, et cetera

Sinatra swings, a choir sings

Love is God and God is love

But if your dreams don't scare you, they're not big enough

Atomic City, Atomic

Oh, oh

Atomic City, Atomic

Atomic Sun for everyone, for everyone

Hello, Los Angeles

[u2, "atomic city"]

- (SINGING) God doesn't play dice

More like roulette

The wheel has not stopped spinning

yet [cheering]

Hello, Grammys.

The next category is Pop Vocals.

But these people look pretty rock and roll to me.

These are the outstanding nominees

for Best Pop Vocal Album.

Chemistry, Kelly Clarkson.

- (SINGING) You're my favorite kind of high rushing

through my like a fire.

- Endless Summer Vacation, Miley Cyrus.

- (SINGING) I can buy myself flowers.

GUTS, Olivia Rodrigo.

- (SINGING) I wanna make him feel bad.

Subtract, Ed Sheeran.

Midnights, Taylor Swift.

- (SINGING) In my hair on the weekend.

Thank you, the Edge.

And the Grammy goes to Taylor Swift for Midnights.

[cheering]

- (SINGING) Familiarity breeds contempt

Don't put me in the basement when I want

the penthouse of your heart

Diamonds in my eyes

I polish up real, I polish up real

nice [cheering]

Baby boy, I think I've been too good of a girl

Too good of a girl

Did all the extra credit, then got graded on a curve

I think it's time to teach some lessons

I made you my world, have you heard?

I can reclaim the land

But I miss you

sparkling [cheering]

- OK, this is my 13th Grammy, which is my lucky number.

I don't know if I've ever told you that.

I want to say thank you to the members of the Recording

Academy for voting this way, but I

know that the way that the Recording Academy voted

is a direct reflection of the passion of the fans.

So I want to say thank you to the fans

by telling you a secret that I've been keeping

from for the last two years, which is that my brand

new album comes out April 19.

[cheering]

It's called The Tortured Poets Department.

I'm going to go and post the cover right now backstage.

Thank you. I love you.

Thank you.

[emotional piano music playing]

- The Grammys is a night to celebrate the music that

has moved us this past year.

But it is also a moment to look back

and remember some of the remarkable people

that we have lost.

To pay tribute to one of music's most legendary icons,

Tony Bennett, please welcome his beloved friend,

Stevie Wonder.

Thank you.

You know, I remember hearing Tony Bennett

singing "For Once in My Life" when

I was like 13 or 14 years old.

And then, I went in the studio with Henry Cosby.

And I said, I got an idea for a song.

And I did the song.

The writer of the song said, what are you doing to my song?

It was "For Once in My Life."

But what's amazing is I was able to actually sing

the song with someone that I admired for so long,

not just because of his voice, which was incredible,

but because of his art, his love for art,

his love for peace, his love for unity,

his love for civil rights.

Yes, I remember as a little boy, him being in places where

most people would not even go to stand for the right

of freedom for everyone.

So Tony, I'm going to miss you forever.

I love you always.

And God bless that God allowed us to have you

and have us in this time and space in our lives.

Yes.

["for once in my life" playing]

- (SINGING) For once in my life, for once in my life,

I have someone who needs me

Someone I've needed so long

Once, unafraid, I can go where life leads me

And somehow, I know I'll be strong

For once, I can touch what my heart used to dream of

Long before I knew

Someone warm like you

Would make my dreams come true

For once I can say

Yes, this is mine

You can't take it

As long as I know I have love

I can make it

For once in my life

I have someone who needs me

Oh, for once, I can say

This is mine

You can't take it

'Cause baby, long, oh, that I know I have love

I can make it

For once in my life, all

Right I have someone who needs me

Stevie Wonder!

- The great Tony Bennett forever, yes.

["THE BEST IS YET TO COME" PLAYING]

- (SINGING) Out of the tree of life, I just picked me a plum

You came along, and everything started to hum

Still, it's a real good bet

The best is yet to come

Come the day you're mine

I'm going to teach you to fly

We've only tasted the wine

We're going drain the cup dry, oh

Oh, wait 'til your charms are right for these arms

to surround

You think you've flown before

But you ain't left the ground

Wait 'til you're locked in my embrace

Wait 'til I call you near

Wait till you see that sunshine place

Ain't nothing like it here

The best it yet to come

And, yeah, it will be fine

The best is yet to come

Come the day you're mine

Come the day you're mine

Yeah, the day you're mine

And you're going to be mine, oh, yeah

Thank you.

[jimmy buffett, "come monday"]

- (SINGING) And honey, I didn't know

That I'd be missing you so

Come Monday, it'll be all right

Come Monday, I'll be holding you tight

I spent four lonely

Yeah!

Woo!

["NOTHING COMPARES 2 U" PLAYING]

- (SINGING) It's been seven hours and 15 days

Since you took your love away

I go out every night, and I sleep all day

Since you took your love away

Since you've been gone, I can do whatever I want

I can see whoever I choose

I can eat my dinner in a fancy restaurant

But nothing, nothing can take away these blues

'Cause nothing compares

Nothing compares to you

All the flowers that you planted, Mama, in the backyard

All died when you went away

And I know that living with you baby was sometimes hard

But I'm willing to give it another try

Oh, 'cause nothing compares

Nothing compares to you

I said nothing compares

Nothing compares to you

- Artists for ceasefire, peace in the world.

Walk on

[BILL WITHERS, "AIN'T NO SUNSHINE"]

- (SINGING) Ain't no sunshine when he's gone

Only darkness every day

Ain't no sunshine when he's gone

And this house just ain't no home, anytime he goes away

Cry, cry

Goes away

[bill withers, "lean on me"]

(SINGING) Sometimes times in our lives

We all have pain

We all have sorrow

But if we are wise

We know that there's always tomorrow

(SPEAKING) Come on, choir.

- (SINGING) Lean on me, when you're not strong

And I'll be your friend.

- (SINGING) And I'll be your friend

I'll help you carry

on Oh.

For--

- Stand up for the ones we lost.

(SINGING) It won't be long.

It's the celebration of life.

- (SINGING) Til' I'm going to need somebody.

We gonna need somebody.

(SINGING) Somebody

Somebody gonna need somebody.

(SINGING) Somebody

That somebody might be you.

(SINGING) Somebody

[SOUNDS OF BLACKNESS, "OPTIMISTIC"]

- (SINGING) As long as we keep our head to the star

We can win

We can win, yeah

As long as we keep

Your head

Our head to the sky

We can win

You can win, that's just how

- Let me tell you, whatever you are going through right now--

[vocalizing]

We can win.

- (SINGING) As long as you keep your head to the sky

Your head, be optimistic

You can win, you can win

You can win

I feel a blessing in my soul

You can win, you can win

Let it rock, let it rock, let it

You can win

Keep your hands

As long as we keep our heads to the sky

You can win

Put it up

You can win

Keep on

You can win Keep on

As long as you

keep Hey!

Sing it, baby

To the sky

Your head to the

sky Oh

- The joy of living is still available to us.

All the darkness in the world can't hide light.

Light cannot be hid.

Light will always come out.

- (SINGING) As long as you keep your head to the sky

[cheering]

[applause]

There she is!

There she is!

- Tina Turner was always a towering figure.

She is our forever goddess of rock and roll

who inspired millions, a moving symbol of grace

and grit, soul and power.

Our love and respect for Tina grew

as we witnessed her bravely reclaim her freedom.

From the moment I met Tina, first as a fan,

then later blessed to become her friend,

she was a special kind of role model.

She used to say to me, Oprah, you should always dress up

for dinner even if no one else is

there just so you feel beautiful to you,

for yourself.

And as those big wheels of time keep on turnin', Tina's voice

continues to speak to all of us.

And tonight, to honor Tina Turner, her memory

with her own empowering voice joined by Adam Blackstone,

this is Fantasia Barrino.

[cheering]

Grammys, get up on your feet.

You know what time it is.

Now, most of y'all might not know me, so now

I'm going to introduce myself.

(SINGING) I left a good job down in the city

Workin' for the man every night and day

But I never lost one minute of sleepin'

'Cause I was worried about the way

that things might have been

(SPEAKING) Adam.

[FANTASIA BARRINO AND ADAM BLACKSTONE, "ROUD MARY"]

(SINGING) Oh, you know, the big wheels keep on turnin'

And the Proud Mary keep on burnin'

She'll be rollin', rollin', yeah, rollin' on the river

One more time

She'll be rollin', yee, rollin', yeah,

rollin' on a river

On a river

Well, I left a good job in the city working for the man

every night and day

But I never lost one minute sleep worryin' 'bout

the way things might've been

Big wheels keep on

turnin' Turnin'

Proud Mary keep on

burnin' Burnin'

Rollin', rollin', rollin' on the river

Said rolllin', rollin', rollin' on the river

We're up, do do do do do do do do.

Yep.

Now, I need to find a pretty lady that

doesn't mind moving up here.

What about you?

Yeah.

I need a pretty lady.

You!

One more.

One more.

You!

Now I need everybody in this building to move

your feet for Tina Turner.

Up top.

(SINGING) Big wheels keep on turnin'

Proud Mary keep on burnin'

We're rollin', yeah, rollin', yeah, rollin' on the river

Yeah, rollin', yeah, they're rolling on the river

Let's go

Rollin', yeah, rollin', yeah, rollin' on the river

Yeah, yeah, yeah

Rollin', yeah, rollin', yeah, rollin' on the river

Rollin' on the, rollin' on the river

Rollin', rollin', rollin' on the river

Rollin', yeah, Tina will love you, Tina will love you

Rollin', rollin', hey, rollin' on the

river [cheering]

[energetic music]

And we're back, everybody.

We are back at the Grammys.

You know, the thing about success

is it gives one an opportunity to do

something bigger than oneself.

It gives you the opportunity to help people that you've

never met before and impact lives

in ways that are unimaginable.

This man has done exactly that through his work.

Even as a young man growing up in South Africa,

I was encouraged by seeing him come

from a place like the Marcy Projects,

and not only come from that place,

but end up as the greatest in the world.

The culture is so much better for having you in it,

and I'm extremely privileged to have lived in your era.

- If you take away the genres of music--

rock, country, rap-- in truth, it's all the same thing.

It's about passion.

It's about pain.

It's about love.

[JAY Z, "PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT"]

- (SINGING) Allow me to reintroduce myself

My name is Hov

- Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York,

Shawn Corey Carter has always had a clear understanding

of hip hop's universal reach, earning

him many titles throughout his groundbreaking career.

Jay-Z single handedly pushed rap into arenas where it had

been historically excluded.

And today, he continues to permeate all aspects

of pop culture, from music streaming

to sports to entrepreneurship.

Forward thinking has been a constant in his legacy.

- We were told that hip hop was a fad.

But the audacity of hip hop, we didn't believe them.

I for not one second changed my course.

We did it, Brooklyn.

[rap music]

(SINGING)

HOVA HOVA

Loud

Yeah, now, see, that's what I'm talking about

Love you

too [applause]

- It is now my honor to present the Dr.

Dre Global Impact Award--

in the presence of Dr. Dre himself, by the way--

to the one, the only--

I mean, come on, y'all, you're gonna

have to get on your feet--

Jay-Z.

- (SINGING) Cough up a lung, where I'm from, Marcy, son,

ain't nothing nice

Mentally been many places, but I'm Brooklyn's own

Cough up up a lung, where I'm from,

Marcy, son, ain't nothing nice

Mentally been many places, but I'm Brooklyn's own

Cough up a lung, where I'm from,

Marcy, son, ain't nothing nice

Mentally been many places, but I'm Brooklyn's own

Cough up a lung, where I'm from,

Marcy, son, ain't nothing nice

Mentally been many places, but I'm Brooklyn's own

Cough up a lung, where I'm from,

Marcy, son, ain't nothing nice

Mentally been many places, but I'm Brooklyn's own

Cough up a lung, where I'm from,

Marcy, son, ain't nothing nice

Mentally been many places, but I'm Brooklyn's own

Cough up a lung, where I'm from,

Marcy, son, ain't nothing nice

Mentally been many places, but I'm Brooklyn's own

- Thank you. Thank you.

Thank you very much.

[cheers, applause]

Um, I usually say this is a sippy cup for Blue.

Well, Blue's grown up now.

She doesn't take sippy cups.

And she has her own Grammys.

[cheers]

First of all, thanks to Dr. Dre-- said he's in the house.

He's somewhere.

Oop, there he is.

Andre Young, thank you, sir.

All the doors that you opened, you know,

showed us that we can be rock stars, seeing

you on the Rolling Stone.

Obviously, there's Run-DMC with the Leathers and Aerosmith.

But when you came out West, you took it to a whole new level,

put us on covers, Rolling Stone,

put us around the world, you and Snoop, all that y'all did,

all the records y'all broke.

So thank you for this.

[cheers, applause]

Honored-- honored to accept it.

Honored to accept it.

And thank you to the Black Music Collective

for all the work that you guys do,

scholarships for young creatives.

And hopefully, you know, I'm adding to, you know,

what you guys are doing out here.

Obviously, it's-- it's great to have an award for such a icon.

How far we've come, with Will Smith and Jazzy Jeff

& the Fresh Prince winning their first Grammy in '89

and boycotting because it wasn't televised.

And then they went to, like, a hotel and watched the Grammys.

I ain't even understand what the--

[laughter]

Wasn't a great boycott.

[laughter]

We're here.

But then, '98, I took a page out of their book.

I was nominated for the Best Rap Album,

and DMX had dropped two albums that year.

They both were number one.

Shout out to DMX.

And he wasn't nominated at all.

So I boycotted, and I watched the Grammys.

[laughter]

I'm just saying we just-- we want y'all to get it right.

We love y'all. We love y'all.

We love y'all.

We want y'all to get it right, at least

get it close to right.

And obviously, it's subjective.

Y'all ain't got to clap at everything.

Obviously, it's--

[laughter]

Obviously, it's subjective because, you know, it's music,

and it's opinion-based.

But, you know, some things--

you know, I don't want to embarrass this young lady,

but she has more Grammys than everyone

and never won Album of the Year.

So even by your own metrics, that doesn't work.

Think about that-- the most Grammys,

never won Album of the Year.

That doesn't work, you know?

Some of you--

[cheers]

Some of you are gonna go home tonight and feel

like you've been robbed.

Some of you may get robbed.

[laughter]

Some of you don't belong in the category.

[laughter, oohs]

All right, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.

That was it.

No, when I get nervous, I tell the truth.

[laughter]

Um, but outside of that, outside of that, you know,

we got to keep showing up.

And forget the Grammys for a second.

Just in life, as my daughter sits and stares

at me, nervous as I am, just in life,

you got to keep showing up.

Just keep showing up.

Forget the Grammys.

You got to keep showing up until they give you

all those accolades you feel you deserve,

until they call you chairman, until they call you a genius,

until they call you the greatest of all time.

You feel me?

[cheers]

Thank you.

(SINGING) Cough up a lung, where I'm from, Marcy, son,

ain't nothing nice

Mentally been many places, but I'm Brooklyn's own

Cough up a lung

- Congratulations, Jay-Z. All right.

Still to come, performances by Burna Boy and Billy Joel.

But we're about to take a quick commercial break.

But this is a fun one.

This is gonna be really interesting.

Coming up in this break, a special performance

by SZA at GRAMMY House presented by Mastercard.

So we'll be right back after this.

- Lionel Richie is about to present the Grammy

for Song of the Year.

This is CBS.

[music playing]

- Earlier tonight, the Grammy for Best Rock Performance

was won by Boy Genius, the Grammy for Best Gospel Album

was won by Tye Tribbett, and the Grammy for Best Global

Music Album was won by Shakti.

What did you say?

And then say the same thing-- like another thing--

Yo, I was just having the time of my life right now.

Because, I mean, every single table you sit at,

you meet people from all over the world.

Right now, I'm sitting with the son

of the legendary Bob Marley, Ziggy Marley

himself, everybody.

And we were just chatting about how his dad's biopic is

coming out, right, One Love.

And Bob Marley's played by Kingsley Ben-Adir.

Now, we're having this conversation, and like,

I really struggle to understand,

like, a deep Jamaican accent.

It's so amazing.

It's so it's so melodical.

But don't get it.

But tell me, like, what it feels

like to see this moment in time portrayed in your father's

life in the movie.

You don't know.

Yeah.

Like, is it, like, amazing?

- Is it-- how does it feel? - Fire!

- Fire. [laughter]

Yeah.

Yeah.

And what should we look forward to in the movie?

Everything cool.

Right.

A man of many words.

[laughter]

Kingsley, would you add anything to that.

- I didn't understand what he said.

- Well, you're just going to have to watch the movie.

Now to present the award for Song of the Year,

a legendary, multi-Grammy-winning artist,

who won this award for writing We

Are the World with Michael Jackson.

A historic moment now celebrated

in a new Netflix documentary called

The Greatest Night in Pop.

Please welcome, Lionel Richie.

- (SINGING) All night long, all night

All night, all night

All night long

All night, all night

All night long

[crowd cheers]

Thank you, Trevor.

Thank you very much, everybody.

Winning the Grammy for Song of the Year

for writing We Are the World with my dear,

dear friend Michael Jackson holds a very special place

in my heart forever.

And it means the world to me to present

this Grammy award honoring the art of song writing.

These are this year's outstanding nominees

for Song of the Year.

[music playing]

- (SINGING) Jimmy, Jimmy, cocoa puff.

"A&W."

(SINGING) You can get me high

Love me if you love me not, you can be my light

- (SINGING) I'm the problem. It's me.

- "Anti-Hero."

- (SINGING) At tea time, everybody agrees.

- (SINGING) You fly--

"Butterfly."

- (SINGING) Oh, child, butterfly flying home.

(SINGING) Dance.

- "Dance the Night" from Barbie, the Album.

- (SINGING) My heart could burning,

but you won't see it on my face.

- (SINGING) I can buy myself flowers.

"Flowers."

- (SINGING) Write my name in the sand.

- (SINGING) I still love him though.

"Kill Bill."

- (SINGING) Rather be in jail than alone.

- (SINGING) You sold me for parts.

"Vampire."

- (SINGING) As you sunk your teeth into me.

Oh, blood sucker.

(SINGING) When did it end?

- "What Was I Made For" from the motion picture Barbie.

(SINGING) I'm sad again.

Wow, wow, wow, wow.

All win, but there has to be one.

And the Grammy goes to--

Billie Eilish.

[crowd cheers]

Billie Eilish!

- (SINGING) Cause I, I, I don't know how to feel

But I wanna try

I don't know how to feel

But someday I

might Someday

Whoa.

Whoops.

Yikes.

Whoa, my goodness.

Damn.

That's stupid, guys.

[laughter]

Whoa, literally.

Like, I was looking at everybody's faces,

and I leaned over and I was like, not a chance!

Yo, I just want to say, everybody in this category,

like, that was a crazy list of incredible people, incredible

artists, incredible music.

[applause]

I feel crazy right now.

Damn, dude. Wow.

I don't even-- this is crazy.

I'm shocked out of my balls.

So--

[laughter]

Um, thank you to the members of the Recording Academy.

Thank you to my brother, who's my best friend in the world,

and makes me the person that I am today.

Um, thank you to Greta Gerwig for making

the best movie of the year.

[crowd cheers]

- Thank you to Paul Wachter for having a meeting where he said

that we should have a song on the soundtrack,

and then calling me out of the blue and being like,

do you want to be on the Barbie soundtrack?

And I was like, yeah, of course, we do.

We're so lucky.

We just continue to be just deeply, deeply

privileged, lucky people.

This is nuts though.

- It's hard to feel deserving ever,

but we certainly don't right now.

We feel very humbled, very grateful.

Thank you guys so much.

Yeah, thank you.

Chelsea, Michelle, Danny, Brandon, Justin, Alex--

Mark Ronson.

- --Mark Ronson, Andrew Wyatt, Margo, Noah,

everybody, thank you so much.

I'm forgetting people. I'm sorry.

My mom, my dad, I love you.

My friends, my fans, I love you.

This is silly.

I'm not supposed to be here.

Thank you for having me.

OK, bye!

(SINGING) What was I made for?

[applause]

- Well, congratulations, Billie and Finneas,

for winning Song of the Year, an award for songwriters.

Speaking of great songs and songwriters,

it is now time for a performance from one

of the greatest of all time, Joni Mitchell.

To introduce this icon, here is another Grammy winner

just today.

And I know this moment means the world to her.

Please welcome Brandi Carlile.

[cheering]

Hi.

[piano music]

- Whether we know it or not, any one of us out here who

ever dreamed of becoming a truly self-revealing singer

songwriter did it standing on the shoulders

of one Joni Mitchell.

Joni is one of the most influential

and emotionally generous creators in human history.

She redefined the very purpose of a song

to reflect the contents of a person's soul.

And before she took this leap, the popular song

was observational.

It was brilliant and influential, of course.

But the exhilarating risk that we all now

take by turning ourselves inside-out for all the world

to see started, as far as I can tell,

with Joni Mitchell doing it first.

She's like the first person to strip down at the skinny

dipping party and take that awkward terrifyingly

before everybody else eventually joyfully follows.

In some ways, she didn't have a choice

but to take these leaps.

She was too preoccupied with basic survival,

surviving poverty, polio, and as of 10 years ago,

a near-fatal brain aneurysm.

She didn't dwell too much on how her art was being received

because she was too busy relearning

to speak, let alone sing.

She's learned to walk three times.

Joni just turned 80, my friends.

But we all know she's timeless.

She's timeless.

[cheering]

If we're so lucky that history remembers any of us,

one thing I know for sure is that it

will remember that we lived in the time of Joni Mitchell.

Today, she just won the Grammy for Best Folk Album 56 years

into her singular career.

And singing tonight for the first time

ever on the Grammys stage accompanied

by Lucius SistaStrings, Allison Russell, Blake Mills,

and Jacob Collier, please welcome the matriarch

of imagination, a true renaissance woman,

my hero and yours, Joni Mitchell.

[cheering]

- (SINGING) Rows and flows of angel hair

And ice cream castles in the air

And feather canyons everywhere

I've looked at clouds that way

But now they only block the sun

They rain and they snow on everyone

So many things I would have done

But clouds got in my way

I've looked at clouds from both sides now

From up and down

And still somehow

It's cloud illusions that I recall

I really don't know clouds at all

Moons and Junes and Ferris wheels

The dizzy dancing way that you feel

As every fairy tale comes real

I've looked at love that way

But now it's just another show

And you leave 'em laughing when you go

And if you care, don't let it show

Don't give yourself away

I've looked at love from both sides now

From give and take

And still somehow, it's love's illusions

That I recall

I really don't know love at all

[applause]

Tears and fears and feeling proud

To say "I love you" right out loud

Dreams and schemes and circus crowds

I looked at life that way

But now old friends are acting strange

They shake their heads and say, "Joni, you've changed"

Well, something's lost, but something's gained

In living every day

I've looked at life from both sides now

From win and lose

And still somehow, it's life's illusions

That I recall

I really don't know life

I really don't know life at all.

[applause]

Woo.

Thank you.

- That's right, that's right, ladies and gentlemen, the one

and only, the incomparable Joni Mitchell.

[cheering]

Congratulations.

Thank you.

- All right, everybody, we're going to be right back

with more right after this.

Don't go away.

Congratulations.

- Get all the Grammy looks at home.

Your purchase of Grammy gear supports

the Recording Academy's mission to serve music

creators 365 days a year.

Coming up, performances by Travis Scott, Burna

Boy with Brandy and 21 Savage.

Then Billy Joel returns to the Grammy stage.

This is CBS.

[upbeat music]

Welcome back to the Grammys.

This past year, hip hop turned 50,

which means rap is finally old enough to say,

"Turn that loud music down!"

But right now, it is time for one

of rap's most exciting stars, a 10-time Grammy nominee.

And his album Utopia became one of the biggest

albums of the year.

This is Travis Scott.

[travis scott, "my eyes"]

- Utopia is my fourth addition to the La Flame discography.

The three songs I'm performing are kind of like,

you know, the transport portal to where

we're going to get to utopia.

(RAPPING) Look in my eyes

Tell me your tale

Do you see the road, the map to my soul?

Look, tell me the signs whenever

the smoke clear out of my face

Am I picture perfect or do I look fried?

If you could have a feeling of utopia for one second or one

moment or one minute, one hour, things

can be calm even though everything around you

is moving at a thousand miles per minute.

And the album is just my trip trying to find that.

I'm from Houston, and I grew up in MO City.

It's like a lot of flat land.

So you kind of have to create your own imagination.

Growing up, my imagination and the things I was doing, like,

helped inspire me to create the music I was doing,

fulfill the dream I was after.

[TRAVIS SCOTT FT. PLAYBOI CARTI, "FEIN"]

(SINGING) Fein, fein, fein

Fein, fein, fein, fein

Fein, fein, fein, fein

Fein, fein, fein

Fein, fein, fein

- I go off the energy that the fans give me.

And, you know, every night, you know,

they come out there ready to go.

It's like, don't forget what we're out to achieve,

the people we're trying to inspire.

To my fans, I just want to say thank you.

I had aspirations and aspirations to, you know,

perform at the Grammys.

Being able to share that with, you

know, the world is amazing.

[cheering]

[travis scott, "my eyes"]

(RAPPING) Stacks spreaded on my seat

10,000 on my eyes

Rollie Pollie on my wrist

Gotta make a flight, big day, slumming, no FaceTime

50K, wondering why I'm storming off, no race

Emboldened by the bliss

I was sworn in by a kiss

Late from the country caters

No peacemaker, I sweep up cases

Going on a walk with a new suit armor

New suit dead, Bottega, that's it

Give me the heat from the sleep, then I harm her

Cupid creep in, sleep in a--

Three time to get me T-T-T'd

Still same phone, AT&T

Still giving news very vividly

Beef [muted]

Smoking on some vicious type of [muted]

No beef, no cheese

Even when I eat, they cheat

Every time we meet, naive

[travis scott, "i know?"]

Yeah

Oh,

Tell me, is you still up?

It's 5:00 AM and I'm drunk right now

Tell me, can [muted]

One of one, I'm in the zone right now

Tell me, am I still?

Yeah, telling you just how I feel right now

You say it's just the drugs, and I know

I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, oh

I lied, too, way before, before

Before I had you right inside my arms

But then again I could be drunk

[TRAVIS SCOTT FT. PLAYBOI CARTI, "FEIN"]

(SINGING) For the night, yeah, take your time

Get your light, yeah

Johnny Dang

Johnny Dang

Shorty got key

Fein, fein, fein, fein, fein, fein

Fein, fein, fein, fein, fein

Fein, fein, fein, fein, fein

The career's more at stake when you in your prime, at stake

[muted] that paper, baby, my face on the dotted line, dot

I been flying out of town for some peace of mind, yeah

It's like always they just want a peace of mine, ah

I been focused on the future, never on right now, ah

But I'm sipping, not kombucha, either pink or brown, lit

I'm the one that introduced you to the you right now, mm, yeah

Oh, my god, that bitch bite, that bitch bite

But all right All right

Trying to vibe

Trying to vibe

In the night, come alive

Ain't asleep, ain't a--

- Still to come, Burna Boy performs

with Brandy and 21 Savage.

Billy Joel sings his new song for the first time anywhere.

And what beloved Grammy-winning legend

will take the stage to present the award

for Album of the Year?

This is CBS.

- Coming up, who will win the Grammy for Album of the Year?

This is CBS.

- Earlier tonight, the Grammy for Best Americana Album

was won by Jason Isbel and the 400 Unit.

The Grammy for Songwriter of the Year, Non-classical,

was won by Theron Thomas.

And the Grammy for Best Rap Album was won by Killer Mike.

- Welcome back to the Grammy Awards.

The Recording Academy CEO, Harvey Mason Jr., Has written

or produced music for everyone, from Whitney to Beyoncé,

Michael Jackson to the Justins, Timberlake and Bieber.

So having him in charge of the Academy

is almost like your science teacher

being Bill Nye the Science Guy.

Please welcome Harvey Mason Jr.

[cheering and applause]

[classical music playing]

Good evening, everyone.

It's an incredible privilege to lead this Recording Academy,

an organization that celebrates music, but more importantly,

serves music and all the people who

make it every day of the year.

Tonight is a truly global event.

We began the show with an artist

who grew up in Kosovo and London, the amazing Dua Lipa.

The next performance will be a first on the Grammy stage.

We'll see the superstar from Nigeria, Burna Boy.

And earlier, we presented Grammys to winners

from around the world, all the while

guided through this evening by our fantastic South

African host.

Tonight, we celebrate the world of music.

Every one of us, no matter where we're from,

is united by the shared experience of music.

It brings us together like nothing else can.

And that's why music must always be our safe space.

When that's violated, it strikes at the very core

of who we are.

We felt that at the Bataclan Concert Hall in Paris.

We felt that at the Manchester Arena in England.

We felt that at the Route 91 Harvest Music Festival

in Las Vegas.

And on October 7, we felt that again when

we heard the tragic news from the Supernova Music Festival

for Love, that over 360 music fans lost their lives,

and another 40 were kidnapped.

That day, and all the tragic days that have followed,

have been awful for the world to bear as we mourn the loss

of all innocent lives.

We live in a world divided by so much,

and maybe music can't solve everything.

But let us all agree, music must

remain the common ground upon which we all stand,

together in peace and harmony.

Because music has always been one of humanity's

greatest connectors.

Think about it.

Every song that we're honoring or hearing tonight

moved someone.

No matter where they were from or what they believed,

it connected them to others who were moved in the same way.

Take this string quartet.

As individuals, they sound really good.

But together, they achieve something beautiful

they could never do apart.

These musicians of Palestinian, Israeli, and Arab descent

are here playing together.

Now is the time for us, for humanity,

to play together-- to come together--

with empathy and with love.

Thank you

[cheering and applause]

- Coming up, Burna Boy performs with Brandy and 21 Savage.

Then Billy Joel.

This is CBS.

[music playing]

- Welcome back to the Grammys, which sadly

is not an award show celebrating

the world's best grandmothers.

You know there is no denying that over the past few years

Afrobeats has swept the globe.

In fact, I'm proud to say that over the past year

South Africa's very own amapiano has truly,

has truly taken over music in a special way.

Shout out to Tyla.

Congratulations on your Grammy.

Though, you know, people say Afrobeats is new.

And personally growing up in South Africa,

I would get Afrobeats all the time from my mom

every time I came home past my curfew.

So it wasn't new to me.

Well, tonight, you're in for a special treat.

Afrobeats on the Grammy stage for the very first time,

joined by Brandy and 21 Savage.

He's a Gramm-winning sensation originally from Nigeria.

Please welcome Burna Boy.

[applause]

[vocalizing]

Sitting on top of the world

Feel my thug passion

So tell me if you want action

Until the lights back on

That's the difference when you're my baby

That's how it is when you're

Sittin' on top of the world

Your body make me stop the world

Top of the world!

[applause]

That's right.

That's right, everybody.

The African Giant, Burna Boy, 21

Savage, and of course, Brandy.

I want to make a few special acknowledgments

right now, everybody.

These are a few special awards that we don't get

to see at the actual event.

But I want to say big ups to all of these people.

Our Music Educator Award goes to Annie Ray,

Orchestra Director of Annadale High

School in Annandale, Virginia.

Congratulations to you, Annie.

[applause]

Also, the Recording Academy's Industry Icon

is Jon Platt, Sony Music Publishing Chairman and CEO.

The Best Song of Social Change goes to K'naan, Steve McEwan,

and Gerald Eaton for "Refugee," a tribute

to refugees around the world.

And I want to acknowledge Jack Antonoff, this year's Producer

of the Year, Non-Classical.

Congratulations, Jack.

And this is a really special one.

Let's hear it, everybody, for Jon Bon Jovi, our MusiCares

Person of the Year.

[applause]

And this one is special to all of us who work on the Grammys

every single year.

I want to send a special shout-out and thanks to a man

that after 26 years as the CBS executive

overseeing specials, Jack Sussman,

he is stepping down after this show.

Our eternal thanks to you, Jack.

We love you and we appreciate you.

All right.

Right now I am honored to introduced last year's winner

for Best New Artist, who won a new Grammy earlier today

for Best Jazz Performance.

Please welcome the amazing Samara Joy.

- (SINGING) Guess who I saw today, my dear?

I went in town to shop around for something new

I thought--

- One year ago today, I was totally surprised

and completely thrilled when Olivia Rodrigo called

my name as Best New Artist.

And now in a beautiful recent Grammy tradition,

I get to pass on this great honor

to one of this year's eight very

eclectic and extremely worthy nominees for Best New Artist.

Gracie Abrams.

- (SINGING) Everything I know brings me back to us.

Fred again.

[fred again, "adore u"]

(SINGING) Adore you.

- (SINGING) Nowadays I be duckin' the cameras.

Ice Spice.

- (SINGING) And they hype that I'm on them banners

Pulling my phone, but they know I don't answer

In the hood, I'm like Princess Diana

- (SINGING) Please don't let me lose her.

Jelly Roll.

- (SINGING) I only talk to God when I need a favor.

Coco Jones.

(SINGING) I need you.

When I leave you--

(SINGING) Love Vermont.

Noah Kahan.

(SINGING) But it's the season of the sticks

I saw your mom

She forgot that I exist

(SINGING) I look too good.

Victoria Monét.

(SINGING) On my hood

I look fly, I look good

- (SINGING) That is how love--

The War and Treaty.

- (SINGING) --is made.

- And the Grammy goes to--

Victoria Monét.

[applause]

[victoria monét, "on my mama"]

(SINGING) Mama, on my hood

I look fly, I look good

You can't touch my bag, wish you could

I look fly, I look too good

I'm so deep in my bag

Like a grandma with a peppermint

They say, ooh, she smell good

That's just 'cause I'm heaven-sent

Sex game so stupid

Snappin' like a toothpick

Man, to tell the truth, your opinion is irrelevant

But I, I know you think I'm fine

Might be too fine to hit it from behind

Reflection in the mirror don't

decline [applause]

Oh, my, God.

Thank you guys so much.

Thank you to the champagne servers of tonight.

That's my first.

Thank you.

Thank you to the Recording Academy voting members.

This is because of you guys.

You guys pressed that button.

You were in your emails.

Thank you so much.

Thank you to my mom.

A single mom raising this really bad girl.

Thank you so much.

I just want to say to everybody who has a dream.

I want you to look at this as an example.

Thank you, God.

[applause]

This-- this award was a 15-year pursuit.

I moved to LA in 2009.

And I like to liken myself to a plant who was planted.

And you can look at the music industry as soil.

And it can be looked at as dirty,

or it can be looked at as a source of nutrients and water.

And my roots have been growing underneath ground

unseen for so long.

And I feel like today I'm sprouting,

finally above ground.

So I'd like to thank my team of visionaries who

could see through that soil.

Rachelle, thank you so much.

I just want to tell a small story.

I know that this slot is, like, one minute.

So I'll hurry up.

There was a binder that I made to take this really

important meeting at a label.

And I thought I was going to be signed.

And I was an independent artist with no team.

And I just thought, maybe my music would stand for itself.

But that binder left collecting dust in an office in a label.

And Rachelle found that binder.

And she decided to take a chance, leave that label,

and be my manager.

So thank you so much for seeing me.

[applause]

Thank you.

I'd like to thank all of the other nominees

in the category, because best is subjective, right?

We voted for it.

And I think we're all the best.

But when you look at what "best" means introspectively,

I'd like to say that that is what rings true.

[music plays] The music.

We got the music.

Let me just make a song.

That's what rings true.

And we are all the best versions of ourselves tonight.

Thank you, the Recording Academy.

Thank you, every collaborator.

Thank you, D'Mile.

Thank you, Deb. Thank you, Kyla.

Thank you.

Thank you, Charlie Boy, everybody.

Thank you.

If I know you, thank you.

[victoria monét, "on my mama"]

(SINGING) Mama, on my hood

I look fly--

Well, you know, Grammy presenters are always asking

me, Trevor, can I please present the Grammy award

alongside my mother-in-law?

And my answer is always no.

Until right now.

Please welcome Mark Ronson and his mother-in-law,

Meryl Streep.

(SINGING) Get down.

Oh, oh

Lock, and we got

What you came to see, woo

Oh, oh, yeah, oh

It's about that time to get out your seats

- I am so unbelievably honored to be here tonight with you,

Mark, to present the most important award of the night,

the Best Album of the Year.

- No, no, no, no, no. Sorry.

I'm sorry.

It's for Best Record.

Best Record of the Year.

That's what I said.

Yeah.

- Best album is a record, so, best record is an album.

- It can be, but this is different because this

is just for one record.

- So, how many songs are on a record album?

Well, one.

Just this one on this one.

So, it's a single?

So, it's the Best Single of this Year.

[laughter, applause]

But we already gave out the, um, Best Song?

- Yeah. Yeah.

That's a songwriter's award.

That is also a totally different thing.

Yeah.

- That's the one you lost. - Yeah.

- Thank you. - Oh.

[laughter]

But you did win this.

You won the Best Record.

- Twice. Sorry.

- Yeah. OK.

Yeah.

So, what is it?

- Well, it's a really important award,

and it's an award that recognizes all the things that

go into making a great record-- the producers,

the recording engineer, and the artists,

- and all their contribution. - So, see?

Everything award.

It's-- it's the best.

And the nominees for Record of the Year are--

[dramatic music]

"Worship," Jon Batiste.

- (SINGING) We are born the same.

- "Not Strong Enough," boygenius.

- (SINGING) Not strong enough to be your man.

"Flowers," Miley Cyrus.

- (SINGING) Can love me better, baby.

- "What Was I Made For?" from the Motion

Picture Barbie, Billie Eilish.

(SINGING) What he's made for.

"On My Mama," Victoria Monét.

(SINGING) I look too good.

"Vampire," Olivia Rodrigo.

(SINGING) Into me, oh.

- "Anti-hero," Taylor Swift.

- (SINGING) I'm the problem, it's me.

"Kill Bill," SZA.

(SINGING) Than alone.

[dramatic music]

And the Grammy goes to,

"Flowers" Miley Cyrus.

- (SINGING) Say things we don't understand

I can take myself dancing, yeah

I can hold my own hand

Yeah, I can love me better than you can

Can love me better

I can love me better, baby

Can love me better

I can love me better, baby

Can love me better

I can love me better, baby

Can love me better

Oh, I

I didn't want to leave you

I didn't want to fight

Started to cry, but then remembered I

I can buy myself flowers, oh

Write my name in the sand

Talk to myself for hours

- I don't--

- (SINGING) Yeah, say things you don't--

- Do you want to talk, or you want me to talk, or?

Can you hold this?

Yeah.

All right.

Thank you all so much.

Oh, this award is amazing.

But I really hope that it doesn't

change anything because my life was beautiful yesterday.

Not everyone in the world will get a Grammy,

but everyone in this world is spectacular.

So, please don't think that this is important.

Even though it's very important, right, guys?

We're very excited to put this on the piano.

I want to thank everyone that's standing on this stage

right now.

Tom, Tyler, Michael, and Greg.

Our teams, my team, Crush, Colombia.

My mommy, my sister, my love, my main gaze,

because look how good I look.

[cheers]

Anyone else?

Your wife, your fiancee--

all the people that we love.

Thank you all so much.

I don't think I forgot anyone, but I might

have forgotten underwear. Bye.

[cheers, applause]

- (SINGING) Say things we don't understand

I can take myself dancing, yeah

OK.

Well, time for what so many have been waiting for.

And when I say waiting, I mean waiting 30 years.

Because tonight is the return of The Piano Man.

[cheers, applause]

[billy joel, "piano man"]

- He's one of the best selling artists of all time.

160 million records sold.

33 Top 40 hits.

He sold out Madison Square Garden over 100 times.

For 22 years, Billy delivered hit after hit.

And then, he just stopped.

- The last time I wrote a song, it has to be 30 years ago.

A lot of people have asked me, why did you stop writing?

Because I didn't want to.

Some people, maybe they have a great time with it.

I kind of suffered with songwriting.

- You can't be Billy Joel and be done.

You just need to find the magic again.

[cheers]

- I'm Freddie Wexler, and I love Billy Joel.

For my 35th birthday, my wife made it her mission to try

to get me to meet Billy Joel.

And eventually, she found a doctor who knew another doctor

who once knew Billy Joel.

Somehow he got him to agree to meet me.

So I said, OK.

I was going to go have lunch.

I'll talk with this kid, and then that'll be that.

- When I got there, it was pretty

clear that Billy had no intention

of spending any time with me.

He ordered clams on the half shell and a BLT to go.

- The place we went to, they have great clams.

- A 10-minute lunch turned into two and a half hours, and we

became unlikely friends.

- And then as time went on, he was

starting to get me to think about writing

a song and recording.

It took him a while to talk me into it.

It took two years.

- You want me to try singing this?

- Yeah. What do you mean?

- The guy was--

I don't want to say relentless.

I was relentless.

And I did a recording.

And I listened back, and I didn't hate

my voice, which I usually do.

When I go out in the studio and I sing and then I come

back and listen, I'm like, oh.

It's me again.

[cheers]

So this is actually the first time I'm doing it in 30 years.

The whole point of doing what I do

was because it was so much fun to do when I first started.

I kind of lost that after a while.

Freddie got me to find the joy in it again.

[cheers, applause]

[BILLY JOEL, "TURN THE LIGHTS BACK ON"]

- (SINGING) Please open the door

Nothing is different, we've been here before

Pacing these halls

Trying to talk over the silence

And pride sticks out its tongue

Laughs at the portrait that we've become

Stuck in a frame, unable to change

I was wrong

I'm late, but I'm here right now

Though I used to be romantic

I forgot somehow

Time can make you blind

But I see you now

As we're laying in the darkness

Did I wait too long

To turn the lights back on?

[cheers, applause]

Here, stuck on a hill

Outsiders inside the home that we built

The cold settles in

It's been a long winter of indifference

Maybe you love me, maybe you don't

Maybe you'll learn to, and maybe you won't

You've had enough, but I won't give up

On you

I'm late, but I'm here right now

And I'm trying to find the magic

That we lost somehow

Maybe I was blind

But I see you now

As we're laying in the darkness

Did I wait too long

To turn the lights back on?

It's late, but I'm here right now

Is there still time for forgiveness?

Won't you tell me how?

I can't read your mind

But I see you now

As we're laying in the darkness

Did I wait too long

To turn the lights back on?

Yes, I'm here right now

Guilty right now

I'm looking for forgiveness

I can see as we're laying in the darkness

As we're laying in the darkness

Did I wait too long

To turn the lights back on?

[cheers, applause]

That's right.

That's right, y'all.

That's right, y'all.

Billy Joel, everybody.

Billy Joel.

How great was that?

That was worth the wait.

Absolutely, absolutely worth it.

All right.

From one icon to another.

She's a five-time Grammy winner and one of the great voices

of the world.

What an absolute honor to welcome the one,

the only, Celine Dion.

- (SINGING) I am always by your side

'Cause I'm your lady

And you are my man

Whenever you reach--

[cheering]

Thank you all.

I love you right back.

You look beautiful.

When I say that, um, I'm happy to be here,

I really mean it from my heart.

[applause]

Those who have been blessed enough to be here

at the Grammy Awards must never take

for granted the tremendous love and joy

that music brings to our lives and to people

all around the world.

[applause]

And now it gives me great joy to present a Grammy award

that two legends, Diana Ross and Sting,

presented to me 27 years ago.

[applause]

Whew.

These are the outstanding nominees

for the album of the year.

[applause]

- World Music Radio, Jean Baptiste.

The Record, boygenius.

- (SINGING) Into the front of a shotgun.

- Endless Summer Vacation, Miley Cyrus.

- (SINGING) Love me better, baby.

- Did You Know That There's A Tunnel

Under Ocean BLVD, Lana Del Rey.

The Age of Pleasure, Janelle Monae.

- (SINGING) I like lipstick on my neck.

Guts, Olivia Rodrigo.

Midnights, Taylor Swift.

SOS, SZA.

(SINGING) Than alone.

Yes.

And the Grammy goes to--

Woo!

Taylor!

Taylor Swift.

[cheering]

[taylor swift, "karma"]

- (SINGING) Karma is the breeze in my hair on the weekend

Karma's a relaxing thought

Ain't you envious that for you it's not?

Sweet like honey, karma is a cat

Purring in my kap 'cause it loves me

Flexing like a acrobat

Me and karma vibe

Spider-boy, king of thieves,

Weave your little webs of opacity

My pennies made your crown

Trick me once, trick me twice,

Don't you know that cash ain't the only price?

It's coming back around

And I keep my side of the street clean

You wouldn't know what I mean

'Cause karma is my boyfriend

Karma is a God,

Karma is the breeze--

Oh my god!

Ah!

Oh god.

Oh god, oh god, oh god.

No.

[applause]

I don't know, man.

Um-- guys-- you gotta come closer.

I feel really alone.

I feel so alone, like-- you guys--

oh my god.

OK, um--

- Taylor, Laura's right here. - Thanks.

Thank you.

I want to say I get to work with one of my best friends,

who is not only one of my best friends

but also a once-in-a-generation producer.

That's Jack Antonoff.

I'm so lucky.

And my engineer, Laura Sisk.

I want to say Thank you to Serban Ghenea.

Sam Dew, Soundwave.

Lana Del Rey, who is hiding.

But I think so many female artists would not

be where they are and would not have the inspiration they have

if it weren't for the work that she's done.

I think she's a legacy artist, a legend in her prime

right now.

I'm so lucky to know you and to be your friend.

I would love to tell you that this is the best

moment of my life, but I feel this happy

when I finish a song, or when I crack the code to a bridge

that I love, or when I'm shotlisting a music video,

or when I'm rehearsing with my dancers or my band,

or getting ready to go to Tokyo to play a show.

For me, the-- the award is the work.

All I want to do is keep being able to do this.

I love it so much.

It makes me so happy.

It makes me unbelievably blown away

that it makes some people happy who voted for this award too.

All I want to do is keep doing this.

So thank you so much for giving me the opportunity

to do what I love so much.

Mind blown.

Thank you so much.

Ladies and gentlemen.

Congratulations, Taylor Swift.

Not just on the award, but on making history.

The first person to win Album of the Year

four times, ladies and gentlemen.

Well, thank you so much for joining us tonight.

Thank you for being here.

Thank you for tuning in.

I hope you had a wonderful time.

We've loved having you.

To play us out, please stay on your feet, have some fun,

and give it up one more time for Billie Joel!

[crowd cheers]

[BILLY JOEL, "YOU MAY BE RIGHT"]

- (SINGING) Friday night, I crashed your party

Saturday, I said I'm sorry

Sunday, came, trashed me out again

I was only having fun

Wasn't hurting anyone

And we all enjoyed the weekend for a change

I was stranded in the combat zone

I walked to Bedford Stuy alone

Even rode my motorcycle in the rain

And you told me not to drive

But I made it home alive

So you said that only proves that I'm insane

You may be right

I may be

crazy Oh!

But it just may be a lunatic you're looking for

Turn out the lights

Don't try to save me

You may be wrong

For all I know, you may be

right Hey!

You may be right

I may be

crazy Oh!

But it just may be a lunatic you're looking for

Turn out the lights

Oh, don't try to save me

You may be wrong

For all I know, you may be right

You may be wrong, but you may be right

You may be wrong, but you may be right

You may be wrong, but you may be right

You may be wrong, but you may be right.

[crowd cheers]
