They represent the lust and gluttony
of a clergy led astray.

And on the other side
is Death and the Miser

which is in Washington.

And which represents

by showing this old man
buying his soul's salvation

with all the money he has amassed.

And according to this archive,
the central panel shows

"a group of singing monks and nuns".

The tryptic, as a whole,
is denouncing religious hypocrisy.

It is foreshadowing Protestantism,
really.

And another character is "stealing
eggs from a furious swan's nest".

We can't know how sloth and pride
were represented.

But the swan symbolizes anger?
