Why do you think this group of yours

is a global sensation?

of the thought of having a concert.

I began to wonder

To be honest, it was difficult.

of the spread of infectious disease.

The entire arts industry

[V] The last two years�

were really frustrating.

I lost myself in deep thought.

I couldn't organize my thoughts that well
during that time

because I was anxious about not knowing
when we'd be able to meet again.

[Jung Kook] In those two years,

my personality and thoughts

have changed a lot.

On one hand,

it was a time that allowed me
to change and grow as a person.

Nothing changed.

No matter how depressed I was
or how hard of a time I was having,

it didn't change reality.

[j-hope] In the end, time passes

and life continues.

That's how I lived on.

I told myself I had to do something
in the meantime,

so I worked on music or practiced dancing.

That's just�

how I lived on.

But in a way, that was the driving force.

[Jung Kook] We were all very sad.

But something good

still came with all the bad.

[waves crashing]

I guess I wasn't completely aware of
how important music and dancing was to me.

I realized
that I shouldn't take it all for granted.

- [? soft music playing]
- I think I would have been happy

even if I wasn't in this line of work,

but I think I would've failed.

[Jin]
You can develop yourself in this industry,

and we can create something
that'll satisfy the fans.

This work has thankfully allowed me
such opportunities.

[V] I really hoped we can meet soon.

I wanted to perform,
and I missed ARMY too.

I wanted to go to the airport,
which I used to despise so much.

[Jin] These things make me happy,

and I think
that's why I put in so much effort.

[j-hope] It was a difficult time globally,

but many people, including us,

were able to use that time
to look back on themselves.

I think it was

a time meant to study ourselves again.

Namjoon and I talked a lot

about how we needed to organize
our thoughts over the years

pertaining to our reasons
for doing what we do,

how we feel, and what we want to do.

This is the first time

I've affiliated myself with something

for 11 years of my life.

Some of the memories that I'd forgotten
come to mind during the interviews.

An exploration of myself?

[inhales sharply]
I'm genuinely happy when I do this.

Music was so much fun for me back then.

It was something fun to do
instead of studying.

I realized that such a world exists.

- Is that it?
- Yes.

We start at exactly eight o'clock, right?

[staff 2] Yes, that's right.

[RM] Bangtan, Bangtan.

[all] Bang Bangtan!

[Si-Hyuk] A lot of people know this story,
but one day, our producer Pdogg

played a demo by Namjoon,
and I was really shocked.

I really believed that someone like him
needed to debut no matter what.

[? upbeat music playing,

We originally weren't supposed to be
an idol group.

Si-Hyuk actually wanted
to make us into a crew.

[SUGA] A crew with rappers and producers.

[Jin] RM was the first member of the team.

They said it was supposed to be a group

that only did hip-hop and rap
with RM as the center member.

? What's the life
that you've been dreaming of ?

? Who do you see now in the mirror
I gotta say ?

? Find your own path
Even if you live just one day ?

? At least, do something
Put any weakness aside ?

[RM] I think they planned on
making a hip-hop team.

But they realized it wasn't the way to go
in the middle of the process.

And after countless member changes,

we became the current BTS.

? Hey, man, what's your dream? ?

? Hey, man, what's your dream? ?

I guess

they needed someone like me
who could dance.

That's when everyone started to dance.

[j-hope] I came at the right time.

I practiced with everyone,
and we spent time together.

[Jin] Jung Kook, Jimin, Taehyung, and I
were the last ones to join.

And that's how the final BTS came to be.

? Is that all is that all all ?

? To all the youth without dreams ?

In Namjoon's case,
I was surprised when I heard his demo.

But I was also surprised

by the depth of his character
and his knowledge base

when I met him.

As for Yoongi, I was drawn
to his unique sarcastic nature

and somewhat dark side.

[Si-Hyuk]
And I still like this side of him.

I believed that it was essential
to have someone like him on the team.

And he wasn't someone who would
act out his nature in a negative way.

Hoseok was very memorable
in the practice room.

He can be considered
the personification of diligence.

He's a very sincere
and earnest individual.

As for Jin�

I mean, he calls himself
"worldwide handsome."

But I was really surprised
that such a handsome person could exist.

I believed that as a member
of a K-pop idol group,

he could at least help bring in
and create some kind of fandom.

In Jung Kook's case,

he wasn't very confident in himself.

So he wasn't able to show off
everything he had.

I had a strong conviction
that he had a lot of potential

but hadn't been able
to express it just yet.

Taehyung's charms,

talents, and looks were very different
when he was younger.

I had strong confidence
in his potential as well.

Jimin was a very interesting case.

He's a very charming individual
with a lot of talent,

but I was actually quite skeptical
because he seemed incomplete.

My team members strongly insisted
that someone like Jimin

needed to be on the team.

I also knew
that my hunches weren't always right.

So I accepted him because I believed
that there was a reason why

they insisted on it so strongly.

Thinking back, it was a close call.

If I had gone against them back then�

If I had to point out a difference,
it would be all the blood and sweat

we put into the three years
of preparing for our debut.

I'm not sure if you heard it,

- but one of Jimin's parts goes�
- [fan shouts]

�"Throw that stone
if you've done as much as I have."

"We go hard."

Like that lyric, we worked really hard
preparing for our debut.

[Jung Kook]
Hardship was an expectation at that time.

I wouldn't be able to do it again
if someone asked me to.

I would say,
"Let's just stop here for today."

[laughs]

Back then,

staying up all night, going on a diet,

and everything was very hard to do.

But they were such a given at the time.

We spent every moment in the practice room
when we weren't eating or sleeping.

Some people may think I'm exaggerating,

but we really lived like that
for about six months.

- Don't get confused.
- Where should we start?

Let's try to do the whole thing.

- That wasn't right.

[SUGA] We would point out our mistakes
frame by frame while monitoring,

so I got really stressed out.

I seriously tried to run away.

For real.

It was different
from what I had dreamed of.

[j-hope] We had to undergo
intense training to learn the dances,

which was different from how I had danced.

And I already had a lot of rigid habits.

Thankfully, Yoongi and Hoseok stayed

since they believed they could communicate
with the public and do their own music.

I think taking the form
of a K-pop idol group

was the reason why
we were able to come this far.

[? upbeat music playing,

We filmed the dance for No More Dream
for the first time.

And I still remember
our choreographer telling me,

"I guarantee this moment
will never come again in your lives."

And it didn't.
No matter how hard we tried.

who will help you release albums

and with other things.

- Yes, sir.
- [producer] There's no need

to worry or be too nervous.

Let's do our best
to show them your potential.

[Jimin] It was our first time
performing in front of people,

and we wanted to appeal to them.

So we'd think we needed
to jump higher and look cooler.

I think that was
all that we could think about at the time.

I had fulfilled my dream

who made me want to do this with them.

during the year I spent there
after leaving home in 2012.

I had worries
about being in that situation too.

I had my career path to think about.

"Should I look for another company
and debut?"

"Or should I go back to my old company

and debut with my friends?"

But the answer was right in front of me.

I trusted the members and went with them.

I think doing that made me
feel more comfortable and at ease.

I only thought about the members.

I stayed because of those six members.

I went with them,
and it felt like I had found my place.

I believe that was
the most fateful moment in my life.

the year when BTS debuted,

the so-called big agencies
were more influential than they are now.

HYBE wasn't what it is now.

BTS was a small company's idol group.

In other words,
they debuted in a very tough situation.

I don't know. Can we do it?

I might cry if we get it.

We had never received an award before,

so we weren't sure
about what to say if we did get one.

We'd get hopeful thinking,
"Are we getting one or not?"

I'm proud of Namjoon
for getting through the performance.

He was probably busy
memorizing people's names.

by entering society too early.

We could also see our friends
who were still at school

[RM] But we kept running forward.
We needed to do something.

After receiving an award,

we were always being compared
to big agencies.

I think we always felt inferior.

I think the beginning of our debut
was harder than before we debuted.

A really talented artist was singing,
and I could hear them

through my in-ear monitor.

And they were on another level
compared to me.

I felt so small as I listened
and made those comparisons.

We would become physically exhausted.

It wasn't a time
when you saw results right away.

But people would say,

"But you still got the New Artist award
at the start of your career."

I'm not sure if it was because
our ambitions were too big

or if we just couldn't face reality.

We were so confused.

I think all seven of us

would pick that time to be
the most difficult time of our lives.

That was when we questioned our mindset
of just continuously pushing forward.

The traces of the collisions we made

financially and whatnot,

so we had a lot of arguments.

Bad situations kept repeating.

[SUGA] I wasn't sure
if this was the music I wanted to do.

I was very confused.

This, combined with everything else,

led to The Most Beautiful Moment in Life
after much endurance.

[Jimin] Again, the concept was youth.

I kept tearing up.

I cried the most during
The Most Beautiful Moment in Life Series.

I could really relate to it.

We became quite sad
after the School Series ended.

The timing just ended up like that.

The worries of youth showed up for real.

I think those songs do a great job
of explaining our times back then.

[Jimin]
So they're very precious albums to me.

I NEED U was different.

When I first heard the song, I thought,

"This is it."

We'll remember this weight
and continue to do our best
