All you can do is keep your head

into billets, for rest periods,

even do a bit of training.

And that means
a comfortable bed,

drink a bit of cheap wine,

game of cards,
kick a football about.

If your rest area
hasn't been evacuated,

you can talk to French people,

go out with the girls,
that sort of thing.

about inspections
by visiting Generals.

You have to be cleaned up for
them, shaved, rifle well-oiled.
