[jase chuckles]

Hey, that's a beautiful animal.

- You know what I
treasure, is my shower.

Hey, actually, my
whole bathroom.

My toilet, my shower.

Everything is set up
exactly how I want it.

- I was thinkin' of
something a little more-

- No, this means a lot to me.

- No, I was thinkin'
more like our kids.

- I mean, yeah, they're cool.

[murry chuckles]

- They're cool?

Here's why I'm bringin' that up.

I don't know if
y'all remember this,

But I just became
a grandpa again.

- Again.

- In a very short
period of time.

My son reed and
his wife brighton,

They are literally sayin',

"we're building a
village quickly."

I mean, they have a 14 month
old and now a month old.

And my lovely wife
who's now miss grandma,

She wants to have everyone
that's gonna be in their life,

And all of you are included
to do a little video

As part of the baby blessing

And dedication that
we're gonna do.

So it's somethin'
we can shoot now

That they'll have the
rest of their lives,

And it's like a little pep talk

And inspiration to the parents.

- I'll do it.

I'll do it for missy.

- Yeah, we're not
gonna be around,

On the earth for long,

So we wanna leave a legacy.

- We gettin' profound here.

This is gettin' deep, boys.

- Well, tell us where
are we goin' this week?

- Well, this is one of
them weird, wild letters.

For new places to
find treasure."

- "well, you guys are welcome

To come hunt at our
property in kentucky,

Known as hell's half acre."

- Oh, oh.

- "dating back to the 1860s,

It is considered one of the
wildest spots in kentucky.

It was a place for gambling,
looting, gunfights.

With its bad reputation,

Hell's half acre
and the 100 acres

We own that surrounded
it became fertile ground

For many strange and
mysterious tales.

And si, get this,

We're talkin' about encounters

With the ghosts of
civil war soldiers."

- Oh, wow.

- "many of whom are rumored

To have buried silver and gold

On the grounds
while still alive."

Well, I guess so.

They wouldn't be able to
bury it if they was dead.

[jep laughs]

a treasure story?

We are in the middle of nowhere.

- Well, it sounds interesting.

I don't know about
the ghost stuff.

I mean, you know.

- That was the most
interesting part.

the civil war ghosts

That are burying
- that's what I'm sayin'

Find a ghost.

When's the last time you

- Yeah.

in but one ghost,

And that's the holy ghost.

- I think there's ghosts.

There's gonna be
some kinda somethin'.

- This is gonna be fun.

Well, it's like ac/dc
wrote a song about this.

We're on the highway to hell.

- You ever heard of
that song, murry?

- No.
- Oh, that's a good one.

They actually got
it from the bible.

Can you believe that?

- There are multiple hell's
half acres across the country.

This one's located right in
the middle of western kentucky.

This could be a wild ride.

- Murry, all the research I did,

I only came up with one article,

And it's-
- yeah, sketchy at best.

Hell's half acre's just a place

That seems to be
straight out of a movie.

The story goes that
during the mid 1800s,

Civil war guerrillas took
over hell's half acre

And turned it into gamblin',

Just all kinda evil things.

Over the years,

This story kind of
morphed into ghost stories

And all kinda weird
things happenin' at night.

- Really-
- oh, look.

Hey, look, cemetery.

- Are you kiddin' me?

- No, it sure is.
- That's the first thing here?

Well, no wonder they get

All these ghost stories.
- Yep, yep.

- I really don't know what
to think about this place.

I'm really not
into spooky stuff.

But if just half
of this is true,

There should be lots of
coins, civil war relics.

I mean, you name it,
it ought to be there.

It should be a treasure trove.

[mellow music]

[jase stretching]

- Come on, girls.

- Kevin, I'm guessing?
- Yes.

- I'm jase.

- Jenel.
- Hi, murry.

- Well, this is quite the place.

I mean, it is a
trek to get up here.

Yeah.
- I would call this remote.

- Yeah, it's pretty
remote for sure.

- I got one question.

- How in the, did
you find this place?

- It wasn't this
place when I found it.

It was just a regular
piece of land.

I was just lookin' for hunting
property and came across it

Just outta the blue.
- Oh, okay, I see.

- But when I got the tax
bill, paid attention to it,

And then I seen it had
hell's half acre on it

And then that's when I
started doin' some research.

What I've heard from the farmer

That had it before I had it,

He talked about he was leavin'

As soon as the sun
got close to the trees

'cause he wouldn't stay up
here after dark, was afraid to.

So-
- really?

- Yeah.
- Yeah, everybody around here

Knows of it and it's kind
of a feared place I'd say.

- Have you seen any
ghosts or anything?

- I've had some
strange things happen.

- Really?
- Yeah.

- Well, one thing for sure,

We're gonna find out the
truth about this place, so.

- We'd like to find
out the truth, too.

So-
- yeah.

- And maybe a little
money to go on with it.

- Gold would be great.
- Yeah [chuckles].

- If you hear us
holler, we found money.

- Okay, thank you.
- All right.

- Thank you.

[upbeat music]

[detector beeps]

- [jase] what are you doin'?

- Well, I'm leavin'
my gear for now

And I'm going to take these...

- [jase] you're really
gonna put those cameras out?

- Oh yeah, I'ma put 'em out.

We find other stuff all the
time, we ain't found a ghost.

So I brought trail
cameras with me

To see if there's
actually ghosts here.

I mean, who doesn't
want to find a ghost?

- All right, jep,
you find the ghost,

We'll find the gold.

- All right, if you see any
ghosts, paranoia, let me know.

- Yeah, I'll be
sure and do that.

- Originally this place
was just a half acre,

Hence the name hell's half acre.

But as time went on, it
grew into 100 acre property,

So the first thing we gotta do

Is find the original half acre.

I mean, that's about the
size of a football field.

I don't know much about beer,
but I know this is a beer can.

These landowners haven't
owned this property long,

So they just know
about what we know,

Which is not a whole
lot, honestly, but
we're gonna find it.

We're on a mission to find it.

- A lotta trash in here.

Beer can, pull tab.

Beer can.

It's just become an
aluminum wasteland.

[upbeat music]

- Passed an old barn on
the way in so I'm like,

That looks super creepy.

So, that's where
I'm gonna start.

It'd be crazy if I actually
got a picture of a ghost.

I would be like really renowned.

Start a whole
business, ghost hunter.

Jase doesn't think I'll
get a picture of a ghost.

How does he know?

He's never tried it.

I'm like, I've never
tried it either.

This may work.

I think ghosts like to
hang around old barns.

Oh, and it is old
and weird looking.

[spooky music]
[eerie vocalizing]

Yep, that's an old
ghost barn, 100%.

Really creepy.

It is creepy up here.

I'm gettin' that
feeling already.

Somethin' weird.

Could be what I ate last
night, I'm not sure.
[stomach gurgles]

[eerie music]

[children laughing eerily]

- Kay, can you believe
how peaceful it is

With the rain out here?

- Oh, I love it.

It's like we're in
a forest of our own.

- [laughs] I know, that's true.

- And next to the most
beautiful town there is.

- I know, I love it.

I love it out here.

- Oh, I do too.

It's a miracle you
found this place.

[missy chuckles]

- Jase and I have four kids.

Three out of the four kids
live here in nashville,

So we took the opportunity
to buy our own place,

A farmhouse here in
nashville to spend

As much time as
possible with our kids,

And now grand babies and not
be totally on top of them.

What a blessing it has been.

I can't believe you
haven't seen david yet.

Of course, he's only
a few weeks old.

- Oh, I know.

- But I know it means a lot
to reed to have you here.

- Oh, oh wow.

I just can't hardly wait
to meet my great grandson.

- I know.

Baby merris, who's just 16
months old at this time,

And david who came along almost,

I mean, immediately afterwards.

This weekend is
the baby blessings

For both merris and david,

And we get to do 'em
at the same time,

Which is such a great
honor and blessing.

- All right, mamaw kay,

You wanna hold your
great grand baby?

- Oh, he's precious!

Oh my goodness.

The sweetest little boy.

I'm glad I'm so
healthy enough to be

With my great grandchildren,
enjoy seeing them grow up.

Some people never see
their great grandchildren.

- [reed] what do
you think mamaw kay?

- He's precious.

Perfect.

- What about the party tomorrow?

- We're excited for
everyone to be there.

In our family, in our tradition,

Our baby blessings
are passed down

From one generation to the next.

And it's just a way
and a time set apart

To honor the life of the baby

And to also challenge the
parenting skills of the parents,

And that's just
for them to raise

Their children in the lord,

And we're all gonna
be a part of it.

We're all here together
to encourage them
as one big family.

And I have a little
surprise that mamaw kay

And I are gonna be workin' on

To give y'all tomorrow
night that you don't know

- Well, I found somethin'.

- There's a lot of stories
about hell's half acre.

But in all honesty,

The only thing
scary that I've seen

Is the amount of trash
that was left here.

- [murry] silver!

- Nah.

- It's still silver.

- Another beer can.

- Got a plastic
bottle here, jase.

Top that one, big boy.

- Well, there's a
lotta bottles in here.

- It looked like maybe a
mustard jar or somethin'.

Mustard for sure.

Jase, mustard.

- I love mustard.

Find me some sardines
and we'll have some.

[jase sighs]

What you gotta remember here,

We're looking for one half acre,

And we obviously
haven't found it yet.

- Hey jase, think I found brick.

We could be on a home site here.

- That's what led me to it.

I'm diggin' up the
faintest of signals.

Uh oh.

This might be a nail.

Hey, I found a bullet.

- [murry] modern bullet?

- [jase] I don't think so.

- Well, there's supposed to
been some guerrilla troops here.

- It's a one ringer.

I mean, it's definitely
not that modern,

But it's definitely old

Just 'cause it's got that
corrosion all over it.

What do you think it is?

- I think it looks like a
.38 caliber pistol bullet.

- [jase] yeah.

- That single groove is
where it was crimped.

So, early 1900s is my guess.

- Well, that's the
oldest thing I found.

- Yep.

- We're gettin' closer.
- Yep.

- Never in my treasure
hunting career

Have I been this excited

Over a early 1900s
.38 caliber bullet.

Seein' as how I found it
here, I'm like, "yes!"

At hell's half acre,
this is treasure.

[phone vibrating]

But it's proving very difficult.

To be honest, bein' a
grandfather is a bit surreal.

I mean, my first thought was,
"I'm really gettin' old."

Some old ghost comes
headin' to the barn.

I got it.

I'm gonna set these trail
cameras in strategic locations.

Yep.

Basically it senses any kinda
movement, it snaps a photo.

This is the road ghost camp.

You gotta see what's
comin' in and outta here.

Yep, that looks lovely.

All right, last camera.

They can be workin', I
can go treasure hunt,

Come back later
and see what I got.

That's a weird sign,

"no hunting" with
bullet holes in it.

That's par for the course.

But I don't think they
meant ghost huntin'.

- I saw a thing.

I have one story, I
don't know about a ghost,

But somethin' weird.

I was drivin' on my
way to duck hunt.

It was rainin' like crazy
at 4:30 in the mornin',

And I passed this dude.

He had no shirt on, no
shoes, jeans, super fit guy,

And I was like,
"does he need help?"

And I like slowed way down,

And I swear I looked
in my rear view mirror

And there was no face.

It was just like,
there was nothin'.

It was like, blank.
[eerie music]

And I was like...

So then I sped up

And like got outta
there and I told my dad.

He's like, "oh boy,

You don't know what
you're talkin' about."

And I was like,

"all I can tell
you is what I saw.

I saw a faceless dude
out in the rain."

I don't know.

Can't explain that one.

It freaked me out though,
I can tell you that.

You don't know what's
out in the world, man.

People think they know.

You don't know what's out here.

Think we may get somethin' here.

If there's somethin' strange
in the kentucky woods,

- [murry] yeah, I think I did.

It's some kinda button.

I think it says elk brand.

- [jase] you know
what you found?

- [murry] what?

- You found an elk
brand overall button.

They're originally made

In southern kentucky
in the 1920s.

- Wow, it's a lot older
than I thought it was.

But I like that it's local.

- [murry] as it turns out
this button was made locally,

And it's a great
find because it ties

This button with this
area in hell's half acre.

- I like duck huntin' better,

But when it comes
to deer and elk,

That's an all you
can eat buffet.

- [murry] I love it.

- [jase] and who doesn't
like a pair of overalls?

- Beer can.

So far I'm with the
ghosts on this place.

[detector beeping]

It's as loud as it can, but
it's a slightly bigger number.

You gotta dig it
up at this point.

What in the world?

Oh, whoa.

It's a big hunk of somethin'.

It's a bar.

This looks kinda like silver.

Oh, it's got writin' on it.

Phila, but it's broken.

So that would be
the end of the word.

I think it's somethin' valuable.

Why would you put writing on it?

I think I found a silver
bar that's been broken.

I can't figure out
what this means.

I thought it was philadelphia

But that's not how you spell
the end of philadelphia.

- Do you remember
what it rang up?

- It was '80 to '82.

- I think it's lead.

- Well, why would you put
a name on a piece of lead?

- Well, they do that.

Most of these little molds
have a have a name in it.

- All right, well,
wait a minute.

Test for silver and lead.

Let me see.

Let's run a test.

I'ma do this fire test.

It said put a match against it,

Then a lighter match
so when I light this,

If there's a black
stain here, it's silver.

Here we go.

[upbeat music]

On anything you put a match to.

- [jase] I want it to be silver.

I've seen this many times
when a treasure hunter

Is just havin' a bad day.

Denial is not just

I mean it exists right
here in hell's half acre.

- Some fool put it
on the internet.

- [murry] yeah, well

- I think it may be lead.

It appears that I have
found a mysterious metal bar

With the letters filled phil'a

That is most likely not silver.

Don't believe everything
you read on the internet.

gone to sleep.

There's no way I can stand up.

I've lost all feeling
in both feet.

Stretch your legs occasionally
so that when you get up,

You don't lose all
feeling and fall over,

I've ever been in my life.

If you wanted to make a ton

about bein' a ghost hunter.

found was a dang milk jug.

I wonder what they're findin'.

This is one of the
few signals I've had

That I do not think
is a beer can.

Whoop, I got it.

Oo, that looks like brass.

This is 1950s.

I can just tell.

The patina's not real finished.

- Oh [chuckles], I thought
it was a coin at first.

coin, but it's cool.

It's brass, I know for sure.

- See the groove in
the back of these?

Somethin' held it.

It was a face
plate of somethin'.

Could have been a drawer pull,

Like the decoration
around a drawer pull.

- This brass object
is definitely

The coolest thing that
I have found here.

Even though I'm not
real sure what it is

And it's not from the time
period we were looking for,

Findin' relics like this
ties us back to the past.

To me, this is why we hunt.

And it's still way
better than findin'

A modern day beer can.

Uh oh.

Have you ever got the
feelin' we're bein' watched?

[eerie music]

- Like right now?

- I don't know if I
want to touch this.

- Oh boy, it's time to go.

[jase exclaims]

- [jase] not that I'm scared.

about this place.

- Yeah, this place is spooky.

I think I'm gonna head
back and set up camp.

[children laughing eerily]

- Nice camp.

- All the comforts of home.

- I need that big
tent, just fyi.

- It's yours.

- We'll put jase in that
old red one over there.

- He can have that
little red one.

- Yeah, he's skinny.

He don't need much room.

- [jase] hey.

- About the only thing left
to find here is ghosts.

Good thing I put out
some trail cameras

To take pictures at night.

So I'm gonna get
up in the mornin'

And see if I got any pics.

[creature screeching]

- What's that screechin'?

- If we survive the night.

[creature screeching]

- It's ghosts.

See? He's got the sense.

He's sensin' it.

- Yeah, I'm gonna put some
more wood on the fire.

I hear ghosts are
afraid of fire.

- [chuckles] well, I'm
not afraid of ghosts, so.

- I hope you can say

[animal howls]

- Yeah.

I think missy's idea

For the baby blessing
surprise is a great idea,

And everybody would
love to look back

And see things and now they can.

I just wanna tell you,

And I just want 'em to know
about when I was a child

And I had my animals,

They were like my
life 'cause my mom

And dad worked all the time.

- Miss kay does have
lots of words of wisdom.

- And I had chickens
and I had ducks, geese.

Oh, the calf.

I had the calf, goats.

Or was it the sheep?

No, it was the sheep.

And the craziest one I ever
had was a baby alligator.

- To get her to be specific
sometimes is a challenge.

everybody else to do?
