- Yes.

the ship

that just brought you
back from Europe, right?

- Oh, that's right.

- Is he a friend of yours?

- We met him onboard ship.

played shuffleboard together

a few times, and, oh yeah, one
afternoon, you played cards.

- [David] When was the last
time you saw Lieutenant Cane?

- Oh, the last night out.

But I didn't see him when we
disembarked.

- Now, he's missing.

He didn't get off the ship
yesterday.

- Missing?

- You were dancing with
him the last night out,

weren't you, Mrs. Reed?

- Yes.

- Did you leave the dance
with him at any time??

- Before the last dance,
we went out on deck.

- Where were you, Doctor?

- Well, I was in the
bar most of the evening.

- Where'd you go when you left
the bar?

- Well, I went to the
ballroom to get my wife.

But the dance was over.

So I went out on deck
and found them talking.

- Them?

- Yes, my wife and Lieutenant
Cane.

- And?

- And he said goodnight and we
went below to our state room.

- That's not quite true,
darling.

- What is true, Mrs. Reed?

- Well, after Lieutenant Cane
left us,

my husband and I stood
talking for a moment,

until we were interrupted by
one of the ship's officers,

who came up on us in the fog.

It was then that we went
into our state room.

- Did Lieutenant Cane
seem depressed, suicidal,

anything like that?

- Well, he'd had a lot to drink.

- Well, that's it.

We have to question everyone on
board.

It's quite a list.

Sorry to have troubled you.

- I'll walk you to the door.

- [David] Thank you.

(gently dramatic music)

- Uh, you'd better have a
drink, Forgetful Freddie.

You look like a cold fish.

(phone rings)

- We don't want any.

- Oh yes, you do.

Well.

Now, you really live in style,
Mrs. Reed.

Nice luggage.

Going somewhere?

- All right, how much?

- You know, Nickie, money's made
you dull.

You never sent me that much.

I thought I'd just, you know,
come along for the ride.

- [Nickie] Well, the ride's
over for you, Mr. Floyd.

- Oh, Nickie, a gun?

I don't believe it.

- Get out.

- You know something, Nickie?

After all these years, it just
hit me

That old frequency we worked on

- He thinks he killed you.

(groaning)

(dramatic music)

- How is she, Doc?
- What?

- Mrs. Reed, how is she?

You know that crazy musician
thinks he killed her?

Well, let him think it.

It'll be easier to get a
full statement from him.

Besides, we've got him solid
on that assault and battery

with intent to kill.

Oh, I'm sorry I had to
scare you like that, Doc.

But I called the hospital and
told them

to get you over here right away

as soon as Floyd called
and said she was dead.

You know, it's a funny thing,
Doc.

He was sitting right on those
steps,

just babbling away,
something about boomerangs.

He said he choked her to death.

I went up to the bedroom.

She was blacked out, all
right, but she wasn't dead.

Far from it.

Pretty weak, though.

I told her to stay there and
rest

until I got him out of the
house.

Well, I better get her statement

and I can leave the two of you
alone.

(dramatic suspenseful music)

- Sorry, but that is all the
