an unprecedented mission.

Here we are on the amazon,
baby.

[matt] got a call
while I was out on my boat

Taking alligator hunters out

They said, "hey, we need yo
in the amazon now,"

So with a drop of a hat,

Here I am to take on
the amazon jungle,

Along with my naked family.

[jeff] evidently,
people were dropping
like flies out here,

So I'm here to show
that it can be done.

I understand exactly
how badass this place can be.

[ej] if anybody can survive
out here,

I know it's me.

I spent 40 days in colombia

On the first-ever xl
challenge.

[screaming]

This is what I live for!

The philippines,
where I survived 60 days.

[roars like an animal]

But also the swamps
of louisiana,

My second 60-day challenge.

[all] oh, my god!

[all yelling indistinctly]

[jeff] I know what it's like

And it is the greatest feeling
that I've ever felt
in my life,

And if I can help someone else
get to that finish line,

And to feel that feeling
themselves,

I want that for them.

every challenge I've done,

I've been able to conquer,
dominate that environment.

Well, the amazon,
it kicked me out.

It kicked me out fast.

[woman] it's spread.
Yeah, it's getting
a little wider.

it's bigger.

The, uh, bacteria
can't be treated.

To make sure I save my foot,
I've gotta go.

Now here I am. I'm back,

And this place has been
on that bucket list.

I need to have
that redemption.

Man, it's been eight years
since I've been here
in the amazon jungle.

And nobody's wanted
to really swim

I've never, like, joined up
in a group,

through the hyacinths.

That was a new technique.

I've never been
in a survival challenge
with three women before,

So this is new.
New territory for me,

And I'm definitely
a minority out here.

day one today...

Evidently, like,

in the first week.

And even learn from him.

He's an experienced
survivalist. He's a legend.

I wasn't completely surprised,

Hearing that so many people
had gone home
in the first week.

acclimatize to the weather
and humidity,

And the bugs might be
the most brutal thing
that I've endured

As a human being
in my 40 years on this earth.

our own bow and arrow sets...

We really wanna thrive
out here.

It's not just survival,
it's about thriving.

Matt's really gonna help us
from a survival perspective

Make it to those 40 days.

a little fishing dock set up
down there.

a tomato garden growing?

Ate a bunch of tomato seeds
right before the challenge

- And *bleep* them out.

- I'm growing a tomato bed.
- Okay.

I like the creativity.

[dan] have you ever made
one of these traps, matt?

- This bird trap right here?
- Yeah.

- You know, I've been training
it to come to that spot.

You're talking vultures,
right?

Vultures, hawks.

the vulture's not exactly
our ideal bird to eat,

But it's also, like, I mean,
a vulture gets a bad rep,

But you think, you know,
they eat meat.

[dan] I did a lot of research
on it too.

Like, scientifically,
really there's no reason
why you can't,

And we eat plenty of things
that eat dead meat.

There's plenty of people
used to actually eat vultures
and the vulture eyeballs,

'cause they thought
vultures can see the future

So, heck, maybe
we just get psychic abilities
if we catch one, huh?

I am hoping that I can test
my skills

By teaching them to become,
essentially,

A better hunter
and a better survivalist.

they just caught
their second caiman

much more than I do right no

I'm the fresh cat

I'm energetic, I'm healthy.

So hopefully this can be

the extra palm fronds

To make jen and I a bed.

Jen gave up her space,

So now jen and I
are moving in together,

And I'm making us
a nice new little bed.

I've ever undertaken,

Actually, the foot
of the elevated bed,

And a crossbeam.

I gotta get this set up

Even if I don't have a roof,

I can be up off the ground

Had a wild day,

And this is
my first caiman broth.

So this is
from our second caiman.

We ate a bunch
and boiled the rest up

With a leaf as well,

And so I'm so excited
to try this.

We're trying to get jeff
to join in on the party.

- We're gonna force jeff
to eat with us.

Caiman tastes just like

But it doesn't have
an aggressive fishy taste

exactly how that feels,

We came in
on day one, puking.

We could barely walk.

It was horrible,

So what this jungle
does to you
is incredibly questionable,

On a daily basis.

[retches]

Jeff is feeling pretty poor,

But we know we need to go of
on our own

And do what we need to do.

- So, right now, I'm gonna go
and set lines and get it done.
- [trish] all right, do it.

So that way, tomorrow morning
we have a fish.

[trish] great idea.

Cool. That way, it's done,

And I don't have to worry
about doing it
before the sun goes down.

These stalks are dangerous.

- I know, I'm getting them

That one is ripe as can be.

I'm actually doing really good
at catching these,

Setting the lines
just above the water,

And the caiman
are pulling in the babies,

And they're getting stuck

If we get a caiman a day?

Let it sit just right
on the water,

And hopefully,

The caiman go for it.

on a little walkabout today

We're gonna cross the river

See if we can't find
some new resources.

Palms, protein, fruit.

It's untapped territory for me

So it'll be a cool adventure
for both of us.

I'm excited to go out
and cross the river,

But that's dangerous
by myself.

It just wasn't worth it,
but having ej here

And to have him have my back,

I feel good.

the stuff over there.

It looks like
there's an opening,

like some animals make.

We have to check out
as much as we can
on the environment around us,

And if it means
I gotta cross a caiman,
piranha-infested river,

We're gonna do that.
We're gonna get the job done

And fingers crossed we find
something worthwhile.

a river like this,

Especially in the amazon,

You don't know
what's underneath.

There's caiman,

There's anaconda,
there's piranhas

Can basically grab your leg
and pull you under,

And you won't even...
You know, no one will ever
see you again.

It looked like
it was an easy swim.

Half of it is
across that grass.

- Spider-infested,
caiman, carnivore grassland.

How's it feel
to be a day further
than you've ever been?

Oh, I just got...
I just can't stand
this hair in my eyes.

- [matt] your hair still is
remarkably short.

- You wanna do
some improvements today?

I know, it was like...

At one point in time,
I woke up,

And you were using my feet
as a footrest.

[matt] so, right now,
our shelter's a little tight

Last night, the bed was made
for a little person,

And that little person
was kaila, I believe,

So it was a little bit hard
to fit up there,

But to alleviate that,

We're actually expanding
the front of the shelter
a little bit,

With a simple a-frame.

Waz and I
will get this thicker one.

These two are not some,
you know, amateur squad.

This is the varsity squad.

Oh, look at that. How lovely!

[matt] dan has the ambition
to go out and do things

That some normal person
would just not have the drive
to do.

So, we're, like, making
a mosquito breeding ground
here.

This kind of stuff fills in
the ground really well.

[matt] you know, waz is
a strong guy.

He's kinda going at it
in a strong-man way.

They're taking
the challenge on,
kinda like myself,

Where they... They enjoy it.

The amount of energy
I've been exerting lately
is pretty extreme,

Compared to
the amount of calories
I've been taking in.

[dan] whoo, that's high up.

Matt wright, that's
his specialty, is getting fo
for you out here,

Which is exactly what
I was hoping for.

[matt] what I just did now
is I just lashed on
these poles up on top.

These are gonna create
the verticals going up.

The horizontal tie's gonna be
the actual palm itself.

- Looks like all of it.

[matt] and, as we layer thos
from down to up,

It's gonna create
a pretty watertight shelter.

as a group effectively.

We're communicating well,

Growing as a team,
learning from each other.

This is more ambitious
than I thought.

I'm feeling good
and ready to take on
a couple of new tasks.

Ideally, ones that involve
getting us more food.

They're not very useful

some in my feet,

And it's not good.

These things could lead
to infection,

And that'll take you
out of this challenge
very quickly.

I really thought maybe
there was something
really, really great

But we don't know
until we get out and explore,

But trying to find

When the other two

and reeds that try
to kill you.

I think it just went through
mainly feathers.

So to hit a bird,
what you see of the bird
is not the whole target.

It's covered in feathers.
The actual body's
much smaller.

So a big bird may only have
a kill zone the size of, lik
a small ball.

And because of that,
you have to be super precise
on that arrow.

But his ideas, you know,
really do bring some light
that we haven't seen before.

That's where I caught
two caiman
in between the two logs.

So to create this platform

The first thing we have to do
is actually make a structure
for the walkway.

It's two branches coming dow
fork pulled together.

sink into the mud.

Then we're gonna need
60-something small sticks
to make the platform.

it takes to do
something like this is huge.

Yep, it takes a lot of work
to get that food rolling,
