She thought she would find you a changed man in Foshan

But you have disappointed her

I don't get it

What change did she expect to see?

Simple, be a man of determination

Determination?

Yes, be you revolutionary or reactionary

Be you engaged in martial arts or commerce

Once you have picked your path

You have to persevere

Think about it

Wing-shing will only spend her life with an unwavering man

You are right

Like your mentor Mr Yu Fung-kau

He's the unwavering Foshan Hero

Right

lp Man, Wing-shing doesn't know you that well

If you have time, you should talk with her more

You should tell her in no uncertain terms why you have picked kung fu

That's what she wants to know

Thank you, I will think about it

One more word

This is my advice for you

Whatever we do, we shouldn't compromise so easily

In the battle between the sexes Don't blink first

I don't want to win, I just...

That's all I wanted to say I won't get in your way

Enjoy

What did he say?

Don't be impatient, have some tea first

I couldn't sleep the whole night

I was thinking

Maybe I was asking for too much It's not reasonable

Most importantly

Maybe he couldn't get what I mean

Wing-shing, I told him what you said Without a word missing

What did he say?

Promise me you won't get mad

What do you mean?

I mean, you should have patience with him

What did he say?

He said... his mind is set on martial arts

He failed to get what I mean

Wing-shing, you know how much I love you

I wouldn't play dirty tricks on this

Ching-shan, sorry, that's not what I meant

Cashier Wah... don't go

See? He wants Cashier Wah to take him as his disciple

Well? Should I go with you?

No, thanks

Well, if you really love him

You should make it clear with him

I will

Cashier Wah... don't run...

What now?

I have something to ask you

No more talking about the kung fu thing

No, I mean to ask you where to get a good smoking pipe

What do you want a pipe for?

As a gift

Gift?

For your dad? His birthday is coming?

For a very important person

I can't decide on what type to buy

Hence I've come to ask you

That's easy, I am an expert on this Come with me

For long-stemmed pipe

The stem is be made of fine bamboo No big deal about it

The bowl is for the tobacco

A quality one is smooth and cool to the touch

The mouthpiece makes the difference

A good one is made of jade

And a really fine one, emerald

This is the tobacco pouch

Quality ones are made of brocade

This one won't do

You speak like an expert

Now let me present you with our best

Have a look

This is an emerald mouthpiece

Premium stuff, premium emerald

Zi, if Master Chan takes you as his disciple

You pass it to me

If he takes me, I'll pass it to you

I don't mind being your mentor

I don't mind you being my mentor

But it's so expensive

Either I don't buy it Or I have to have the best

Boss, this one please

How much? Two dollars

Let me wrap it up for you With a brocade pouch thrown in

Good

Boss

Just a moment

Let me wrap it up for you

Your dad is blessed to have such a loving son

Oh yes, Dad wants to treat you to tea

What for?

I don't know, you'll know when you are there

Alright

Boss, make it quick Coming...

Master Chan...

Ip Man, leave me alone

Hey, this is for you

It's not for your dad?

It's meant as a gift for my mentor

Hold it

Whatever you say, I won't take you as my disciple

It's alright

But you should take this

I've done nothing to deserve it

But it's bought for you

The one you are using is worn

The tobacco falls out

I have long wanted to get you a new one

But I knew nothing about smoking pipes

So I asked you to go along

Let me tell you, I am used to the old one

A token for saving my life in Canton

Come on, take it

I am Cashier Wah, you are the heir of the lp family

I am not worthy

If you won't take it

I'll pester you every day

You're giving this to me You'll get nothing in return

Don't be so obstinate

I promise you

If you take it, I won't pester you anymore, alright?

You mean it? Yes

Alright, I'll do you this favour

Don't go back on your word

So this trick didn't work either

Now I have taken the pipe

But not the disciple

If I take lp Man, it'll break Zi's heart

Cashier Wah...

Director Wong, it's you?

Come sit down, I am wanted?

You haven't paid your tax

But I did

Look, there's a new item

A new tax? Yes

New tax again?

Cut it out and pay up

Search... Yes

Don't argue with them

I really don't have money for the tax

Not even a dollar, Director Wong

You have nothing? Really?

Nothing? It's jade

It's emerald Right

It's good stuff, it really is jade premium jade

Drop dead... you old fool...

Stop it... stop it...

Just take it

Be smart Let's go

Hello, hottie, don't go...

Who are you?

What are you looking at?

Why is your face covered?

Buddies, beat him up

Give way

Zi, give it back to me

For this?

It's from lp Man?

This is his gift for his mentor

You took lp Man as your disciple for this?

Chan Wah-shun

I won't disappoint you

Boss, is my plaque done?

Yes, over here

Yu's Crane School

Here you are

Marvelous

What is it?

The books I brought you, have you read them

Books? Yes

Really?

You think I shouldn't have wasted my time on books?

What's the use of practising martial arts?

What good will it do for the country?

For a country to be strong The people have to be strong

Sound physique and strong will make strong people

What about thinking?

The thinking behind kung fu is profound

I thought you had got it

But you're still talking kung fu with me

Wing-shing, I know you don't like kung fu But you should know...

I know, kung fu is good

Hence you want to be Chan Wah-shun's disciple

Yes, it's Mentor's wish

Moreover, Wing Chun is so profound a school

I've picked up a bit only It's just a drop in the ocean

You are leaving?

We just can't communicate

We have nothing in common

Hear me out

Just save it

You spend your life here in Foshan for your kung fu

Good for you

Wing-shing

Be it the French Revolution or the October Revolution

They have one thing in common

That is, the result of the youth's passion

middle-aged men's financial support

and the experience of the aged

It's the fruit of three generations' effort

The books have taught me that the world is expansive

I want to explore the beauty of the world with you

Why are you smiling?

I was smiling?

You look so pretty when you smile

Ching-shan, my mind is filled with lp Man

I wish it was he sitting here

and he being more captivating than you are

You dozed off and had a dream?

The princess misses her prince

She sees a frog by the pond

And she is thinking, when will the frog turn into the prince

And so she kisses the frog

If this was told by Zhuangzi

I wonder if it'd be the frog turning into the prince

Or the prince turning into the frog

I am wanted elsewhere. Excuse me

How come you are here?

To see you and treat you to dinner

What? You don't want to go?

I do, I do

I made the steak for you

I was rude yesterday

So this is my apology

I am not good with words and I failed to make myself clear

Try it

How is it?

Delicious

Do you want to go to France to try genuine French cuisine?

I have been reading the book on the French Revolution you brought me

Did it fill you with zeal?

I was on the attack of the Bastille last night

On the Jacobins and Robespierre taken to the guillotine

It hurt me to read it, I felt so sad

Sacrifices are unavoidable in a revolution

I don't mind sacrificing

You know, as a martial arts practitioner

Like my mentor, Yu Fung-kau...

We are having western cuisine

Could you spare me your kung fu pitching?

Wing-shing, you know I long for a new world

But after seeing the aftermath of the French Revolution

The power struggle of the Canton warlords

I... I don't like intrigues or scheming

It's not for me

I think there's a kind of spirit embodied in the traditional Chinese culture

and it's embodied by my mentor Yu Fung-kau...

What?

I find it stuffy here, I need to go out

Let me go with you

Sangyuan Town Pier

Going to Canton tomorrow

Miss, how many?

One

Here you are, for Canton Thank you

lp Man, goodbye

Goodbye

lp Man...

Ip Man, goodbye

Goodbye

lp's Mansion

You're not waiting for lp Man to come back?

The boat is leaving

Let Uncle see you to the pier

Yes, let me...

No, thank you

I have given you too much trouble already

I really am sorry

I am going to France

I don't know when I will be back

Uncle, Auntie, you take care

Hold it

Let me get lp Man

No, don't bother

If he's here, I don't know how to bid him goodbye

You two are not in each other's destiny

Auntie, please don't say so

I have failed you

Take care

That is lp Man's room

You have not seen it, right?

I'll go tell lp Man

You try to keep Wing-shing

Wing-shing, I have made a sweet soup

You have some before you go

No, thanks, I don't have the time

It's alright, I can have you taken there

No, thanks, goodbye

Let their fate decide

lp Man, go to the pier

Wing-shing is leaving, just go

Wing-shing is leaving

Son, go... just go... go...

Foshan-Canton

Wing-shing, wait for me

Wait for me

Wing-shing

Wing-shing

Thank Heaven, you are still here

I want to change mine into two tickets

I jumped off the boat

I just wanted to ask you

Will you go to see the world with me?

I will... I will... of course I will

Let's go together

We'll go to see the world together

But why did you call the betrothal off

You fool

What do you mean?

She wants you to go with her?

I said "yes"

It's great

How audacious

You have not talked with us first

I am here to talk with you

If it had not been for us

you wouldn't have had this outcome

Let me tell you

Your dad asked her to see your room

Let her see how serious you are with your studies

That's why she changed her mind

Dad, thank you

I have to share the good news with him

Thank you

You have not packed yet Where are you going?

Who is he going to?

You don't know our son as much as I do

You know? Of course

I don't think you do

I do, but I won't tell you

I won't bother with you

I won't tell you

Who?

I am not going to tell you...

Tell me who... tell me

Zi, look, Wing-shing gave me the ticket

She wants me to go to France with her

Wing-shing wants me

Where is France? Very far away?

Very far away

You are going to a faraway place?

Zi, if I could bring you with me, I would

But... after I am gone, you have to behave

Don't fight with your dad all the time

After I am gone

You'll be the one that worries me

Don't be so sissy

Let's drink

Yes, cheers

One more One more

Be good to her

I will, don't worry

When are you leaving?

Tomorrow evening

Before you go, I'll put your mind at ease

Zi, what's in your mind?

You don't have to care

You will get your assurance

About what?

Lp Man

What?

Lp Man

What?

I just want to call out your name

After you are gone

I'll have no name to call out to

You know what it means by chillness

Just you alone, no one to talk to

You eat alone, sleep alone

There's nothing for you to think about

But there's a person here

He is so far away

If you approach him, he backs away

But if you go away, he comes to you

When finally we meet, we are speechless

Pour it out, I am your listener

At first I had nothing but hatred for him

I thought he hated me just as much

But then, when I woke up to see those wet and muddy silver dollars

He had scrimped hard to save them

He said they were for my leg treatment

I said I didn't want them

My heart is bleeding

I am lonely

His heart is bleeding even more

He's even lonelier

I have to call him Dad

He has to call me son

Don't dwell on it

Let's drink

I want to learn Wing Chun from my dad

I want to do Wing Chun with my dad

Wing Chun School

Mentor, don't get up

Sit down...

Mentor, you set up this Wing Chun martial arts school

Let me be your first disciple

I set it up on someone's behalf

Mentor, you teach me Wing Chun

I won't be bullied again

Mom, I don't need so many sets of clothes

You do, we don't know the weather there

You are so far away how can I not worry about you?

What if you catch a cold or go hungry?

Mom, it's just for a few months

It's not like I am not coming back

Bring more

Dad, take Mom over for some rest

Our son is a grownup now Don't worry so much

But...

Mom, take some rest

And don't see me off

But...

Don't worry, come on

Elder, this is the Wing Chun School

Tell him to come out

Kid, come out

Mentor, we have a challenger, that's him

Cripple, come out

Cripple, how dare you set up a martial arts school here

You have the nerve to fight me again?

I lost because you tricked me

This time my two elders are with me

They will tell you what kung fu means

Come on, fight me, come on

Halt!

Take the plaque down

You are not worthy for it

You are the Wing Chun successor

The martial arts school is for you

I'll call you dad

You pass me Wing Chun

No way
