Okay.

First things first.

Between this lecture and the last one, I took the opportunity to tidy up my other product.

I felt like you didn't really need to watch me do that because it's basically the same as everything

I've just taught you.

So you can see, therefore, that I have a fabulous winter fleece for the small dog lover now.

If I click on this, you get to see all the work I did.

Here's my description.

How cute would your dog look in this?

So the question that we talked about before.

Super comfortable fleece for those chilly days.

Very easy to put on and remove a variety of colors to match every outing.

So a bunch of benefits, not so much the features.

All right.

So with that done, if I then go over to the store and click on the catalog, now, of course, I now

see two products.

And that leads me very neatly into the subject of this lecture, which is collections.

Now, a collection in the shop fi world is simply a group of similar products.

So here I have two products, but they're two different types.

So I've got a clothing product and I've got a jewelry product, so I could create a clothing collection

and put the clothing into that, and I could create a jewelry collection and put the jewelry into that.

And then what I could do is in my menu, I could expand it so I could have a clothing section in my

menu and I could have a jewelry section in my menu so that my users can very easily navigate the site

and find the products that they want.

So let's bring all of that to life by actually putting it in place.

So what I need to do therefore is go back to the admin system and under the products menu you can see

collections.

So I click on collections.

Now first thing you notice is that there's already one collection called Home Page.

I'm going to come back to that towards the end of the lecture.

Okay.

What I want you to do now is to go over here and click on Create Collection and then to create a collection.

It's really super simple.

All we need to do is to give it a title.

So clothing, we don't need the description that doesn't really add any value at this stage.

What is important, however, is the collection type.

So we have a choice between manual and automated.

Now I'm going to select manual because I want to manually add products into this collection.

Firstly, because I want to show you how you would do this.

But secondly, it's probably the method you're most likely to use going forward.

I know I've only got one product at the moment, but if you were to add in ten, 20, 30 products and

I'm in Manly as you're going to see, is super quick and easy and it's generally the method that I use.

If you do go for automated, what it means is that as you add them in from visas based on various rules

that you could define, you could immediately add them to certain collections.

I hope I'm not confusing you there, but suffice to say that manual for the time being is all you need.

And with that done, all we then need to do is to click on Save.

And as you can see, it's created the clothing collection.

So let's go and create another collection.

So we'll come out of here, we'll click again on Create Collection and this time we'll create a jewelry

collection.

So title will be Jewelry.

And then we come down and select the collection type to manual and then we save.

Coming back out of here.

Now, we can see that we've now got a jewellery collection and a clothing collection.

And as I said before, I will be coming back to the home page collection.

So now what I want to do is show you how you can assign a product to one of these collections.

So if you go back to the products and this time, let's go to the stunning dog necklace.

And when I scroll down the right hand side here, you probably remember a couple of lectures ago, I

said that this part was going to be important collections, and this is the point where we need to talk

about it.

Now, if I click in here, I get the options of my various collections, clothing and jewelry, just

ignoring home page for the moment.

Okay, forgive me.

So you've got clothing and jewelry.

Well, this is jewelry, so I could click on this.

I've now added it to my jewelry collection, so I click on Save, then I go back to my products.

Let's go to the fabulous Winter Fleece.

Scroll down here to the collections.

And this time let's put it in clothing and click on Save.

So now what we've done, of course, is associate the correct product with the correct collection,

and that's all great.

But it still doesn't help us with our navigation system.

If I go back to my store and just refresh it, I still basically have the same looking store.

There is no mention under the catalog here of different collections of different categories, if you

like.

So let's fix that.

So in order to do that, we need to go back to the store, click on online store, and go back to navigation.

You remember all this with the menus?

Now this time, I'm going to click in the main menu and our target here is the catalog.

What I want to have is when I hover my mouse over catalog or click on it, it shows me the clothing

as a category and it shows me the jewelry as a category.

Now, not to do that, what I need to do is to come down here to click on Add menu item.

And this time I'm going to call it clothing.

And when I go to the link, you remember before we chose a page?

Well, now we're going to choose a collection.

So I click on this and here's my various collections.

So I click on clothing and I click on ADD.

So now I've got clothing.

Now here's the cool bit.

I can basically take this here, see little hand, take it and just drop it here under catalog.

See this?

I've got catalog and then clothing is slightly indented.

Right?

Then I can add another menu item to the catalog at this point.

So let's click on this here.

Let's call this one.

Jewelry.

And now we take the jewelry collection.

Click on AD and now on the catalog.

I've got clothing and I've got jewelry.

So this is when the magic happens, I click on Save.

I go back to my store and I refresh this time next to catalog, you see a little dropdown arrow.

If I click on this, guess what?

I see my two collections, clothing and jewelry.

If I click on clothing, it takes me to the clothing collection with my fabulous winter fleece.

As you would expect, if I click on it again and go to jewelry, then here's my super cute pendant sitting

within my jewelry collection.

And of course I can add any number of products to my collections and indeed as you create any number

of collections themselves, but I hope you can see how simple it is to organize your products into appropriate

collections so that your customers can easily find the products you are selling.

So that's almost that, except for I promised I would go back and talk about the home page collection.

So what is the home page collection?

Well, it can in fact be a number of things, but the way I like to use it is to showcase certain products

on your home page, within your featured collection, to show, let's say, your best products on the

home page, those products that are most likely to entice your customers to look further into your store.

So in order to do that, there's a few things that we need to do, but you only need to do it once and

then it's really straightforward.

The first thing you need to do, of course, is to go back to the admin system and go to themes and

go back to your theme editor.

And as I scroll down, I'm sure you remember this featured products section.

Now at the moment it's showing our two products and you might be thinking, well, in that case it's

done.

It's showing our two products on the home page.

But the problem with the way it's set up by default is that every single product that you add into your

store at the moment, it's going to be showing on your home page.

So if I add 200 products to my store, I'm going to have 200 products on my home page.

That's not what I want.

I want to feature select products.

So in order to do that, I simply come over to the featured collection part of the menu here, click

on it and come down to where it says Collection here, and I want to change it from all.

So I click on change and I go to change collection and this time I select Home Page.

I click on select at the bottom here, and then of course, I need to save.

Now, the first thing you notice, of course, is that I now have no feature products.

So what I need to do now is to go and associate my products with the home page collection.

So let's come out of here.

And let's go to one of our products.

Let's go to the stunning dog fleece and we'll come down here again to collections.

And this time we'll also select the home page, note that a product can easily go in one or more collections.

So having done that, let me click on Save.

So I've added one product to my home page collection.

That means there should be only one product showing on the home page.

If I go back to here, go to my home page, scroll down.

Hey presto.

Under the feature product section, I just have the one product, which is of course, my cute poor

pendant.

So what you now have is a very easy way, a very simple and easy way to add any product from your list

of products to the home page at any time, so you can decide to feature certain products at certain

times.

So you might be doing a special offer, for example, so you could put that product onto the home page,

or you just might want to chop and change it now and again simply to keep it fresh.

It's entirely up to you, but once again, you have an incredibly powerful tool at your fingertips,

so I'd really encourage you to do what I've just done.

So create collections, logical collections for your products, drop your products into those collections,

create the associated menu, and then decide which of those products you want to feature on your home

page.
