Okay.

Brilliant.

So let's have a look at how we can tidy up these products.

But just before we do that, I just want to give you an overview of the format of a product, how Shopify

displays the product within the admin system.

So we can do that very easily simply by clicking on one of my examples.

So my Silver Dog Cat necklace and every single product, the way it's displayed in the abdomen is the

same.

So you have your title up here, then you have a description.

Scrolling down, you have the media, which is typically images, could also be video.

Then going down further, you have the options and the variants.

So the options are basically the options available for this product.

And in this case it's the colour.

So different colours available for this product.

You can see we've got rose gold, we got gold and we've got silver.

And then within those options we could have different variants.

So let's just focus on this gold one for example.

We could have we don't see it here, but we could have a gold one that was, let's say, three different

sizes and they would be listed within the variants.

So I hope that's clear.

Now, what I also want to point out is that if you don't have any variations within a product, so it's

what we call a simple product, it's only available in one size and one colour.

Then you don't see this complexity here.

You don't see the options in the variants because there aren't any.

So you won't see this section.

But at the same time, probably 95% of the products that you'll end up selling on your site will have

different options, and they will have different variants within those options.

And that's just because how most products are right.

We like to give our customers the possibility of buying different colours or buying different sizes.

So for that reason, 95% of the time you're going to see these options and variants.

And if you do find it a little bit confusing, please don't worry.

It is actually quite simple.

And over time you'll get very, very familiar with this.

Okay.

Scrolling down towards the bottom, we have the ever present search engine listing preview and then

going back towards the top.

We have the product status.

So how it's showing on our store.

Don't worry.

I'm going to come back to all of this stuff in more detail.

Okay.

So I'm literally just doing, as I said, an overview.

So the product status then for the rest of these insights, product organization, online store here,

for the most part, you don't need these at this stage of your business and possibly never, because,

you know, Shopify can deal with very small businesses and it can deal with enormous businesses.

So like I said, right at the beginning of this, Shopify has a massive amount of functionality, but

we don't need all of it.

We just need the bits that you need to build your successful business.

So you don't really need any of this except for collections.

Collections is going to be an important part of how we present the products on your store, so I'll

be coming back to that in a few lectures time.

So there we go.

That's an overview of how the products are presented within the Shopify admin system and it's the same

for every single product.

So what I want to show you now is the process that I go through to tidy up the products because as we

said, these are not acceptable at the moment.

We have this kind of crazy title, we have a crazy description.

We need to sort out pricing, we need to make sure they're showing our store, etc. So there's a process

that I go through every time.

So it's going to take us a little while to do that this time.

But you're going to see as ever that it's pretty straightforward and things will pick up dramatically.

I'm also going to give you some great tips as we go through this.

So let's start with the title.

So as I said, we've got this sort of crazy title here at the moment.

Now, titles should always be short and to the point they really are pretty simple to write.

And what I like to do is just simply take out the keywords that I need.

So let's remove all of this and I will replace it with something like Stunning Dog.

Necklace with cute paw.

Pendent.

So all I've done there really is just described it in a way, but in a very succinct way.

There should be no more than about ten words.

In order to get your title across, you are trying to grab their attention.

Do you remember my tips on the copywriting where I was talking about the headline on the on the home

page itself?

Well, this is no different.

This is the title for the product.

We want them to think, Oh, let me have a closer look at that.

So stunning dog necklace with cute paw pendant does exactly that.

Then we have the description.

Now, all I'm going to do at this stage is completely remove the description, because typically the

description on Allie is is not worth having.

It doesn't help sell the product at all.

Now, of course, I'm going to teach you how to write proper product descriptions.

It's actually very simple and there's a very effective technique, which I'm going to teach you in the

next lecture.

It talks about selling the benefits and not the features.

Okay, so that's coming up in the next lecture.

But for the time being, we're just going to leave this blank.

Okay.

Next up, the media.

So the media is basically showing here everything that got pulled off of Ali.

And this is key because sometimes you get stuff that you don't want.

You might have images that you don't want.

You might have a video that you don't want.

So you need to give this a once over.

And the things that you don't want, you will want to delete.

Now this one is not bad, but there are still some things that I want to delete.

So for example, I have duplicate pictures here.

This one here is also a duplicate.

So to delete them, I can basically just select this one here and I can select this one here and I can

delete those files.

So delete these and now I have the images that I actually want.

So the double, which is nice, I've got a silver and a gold and another sort of Goldie or the Rose

gold, if you like.

So they're all there.

Okay.

So I've now got a nice representation of the images that I actually want on my site.

Moving on down, we then have the options and the variants.

Now again here you'll just want to check that it makes sense.

So my options here relate to the metal color, which is fine.

And I've got rose gold color, gold color and silver color and I could leave it like that, but I don't

really need to keep saying the word color.

Right.

It's pretty obvious that gold is a color and so is silver.

So what I would do is I would come in here in this instance and click on edit and then I would change

the name of these option values.

So I would take out the color.

So I just have rose gold.

I have gold and I have silver.

You can then click on done.

And that just simplifies things, right?

It just makes it neater and therefore improve the overall presentation.

Now, just before I start talking about the variance, I'm going to save my good hard work that's done.

And as I scroll back down again, let's start talking about the variance.

Now there are various ways of doing this, but this is what I consider to be the simplest.

All you need to do is to go over to the edit button of the very first variant and click on it and it

brings up this editor page for the variant itself.

So we have the name for the Color Rose Gold.

We've already changed that.

We're happy with that.

If at this stage the photo associated with the variant wasn't correct, you could change it.

But in this case, there's nothing more to do.

Then we have the pricing which are going to come back to in one second, because I just want to show

you the rest of this page and assure you that for the time being, you don't need to worry about any

of it.

All right.

So this is actually quite a simple process, but of course, the price is super important and this is

where we're going to set it.

And of course, you now need to think back to the golden rules, because we want to sell on our store

for between 25 and $30.

Now, there are two prices here, as you can see, the price and the compare out price, and this relates

to discounting.

So it's up to you.

If you wanted to show it as a discounted price, you would put a higher price in here.

But otherwise, just keep it simple at this stage and just enter the same price for both fields.

So in this case, let's put in 2995 and let's also put in 2995, and that's it.

We have now basically edited the variant.

Everything we need is now showing.

So if I now save this but I then want to do is just have a look at the other variants, make sure they're

all good.

So really all I'm doing is just changing the price and saving it and then going to the silver variant

and doing exactly the same.

So you start to see, I think, how you can actually fly through these really quite quickly.

So with that all done, we can then go back to the original page, scroll down to our options and our

variants, which now are looking really, really good for the search engine listing preview.

We don't really need to do anything here.

I'm going to talk a little bit about SEO later on in the course, of course.

But for the moment, don't worry about it here.

It will do its magic without you needing to touch it.

But what is important, scrolling back up is this product status.

So we have it as active at the moment.

My typical process is to set this as draft so that it can't show on the site until I'm absolutely ready.

But I also want to select a sales channel.

Now, I don't know if you remember many lectures ago.

I described what the sales channels are, but they're basically just the touchpoints for where your

products are going to be available.

And in our case, we only have the online store.

We don't need anything else.

But you can see here we have zero selected.

So what we want to do is always make sure that here it says online store and to do that is super easy.

Just click on Manage.

You can see the online store is the option.

Select that and click on done and that is that now I realize is quite a lot of information in this lecture.

You might feel a little bit overwhelmed.

You might feel that it's a little bit complicated, but please trust me when I say that once you've

done this two, three, four, five times, you'll be doing it almost on autopilot.

It starts to become easier and easier.

Now, of course, we're not quite done because I left the description blank on purpose because I said

I was going to teach you a great sales tip on how to write copy to get people to come and buy your product.

So let's have a look at that in the next lecture.
