All language subtitles for 3. Canva, Pixabay, Pexels and other Image Websites Copyright and License Lecture

Hello there, everybody, and welcome in this lecture.

Now, in this lecture, we're going to discuss the topic of copyright.

Now, of course, in this section you have learned how to self-publish books on Amazon KDP, which is

great.

We have learned how to create content using ChatGPT to write the content for us.

And of course, I have shown you how to check for plagiarism, how you can go ahead and even check for

AI content percentage, how you can swap content.

If you just go back to that lecture that I've added earlier today, which is in the same announcement

that was sent, which is about copyright when it comes to SEO or content writing, which is also was

sent to you in the announcements in which I specify everything.

But in this case we're going to discuss Canva copyright, which we're allowed to do, which you're not

allowed to do, and some of the things you have to be aware of as well when you're using images from

other websites like Pixabay, Unsplash, Pexels and all of the above.

So let's switch to the screen now.

Here we are on Canva.

Now what?

I'm going to proceed by doing, I'm going to create a new design.

I'm going to make it a six by nine inches design.

Now let's start off, first of all, by templates, what you're allowed to do when using templates and

what you're also not allowed to do using templates.

By the way, the effort that I'm going to do right now is also you can find a video which is better

than mine, I believe, by a Canva employee, a Canva insider, if I should have put it that way, who

created a video which is, I believe 15 minutes and I've shared the link to it in the resources lecture

of this, of this lecture, you can go to it.

And he talks about all cases when you're infringing copyrights and the cases when you're not infringing

copyrights when it comes to Canva.

So here on Canva notice, on my left hand side, you can see over here there are these templates.

Now if I click, for example, on this particular template, which you can use.

Now, one thing you have to understand is that there is a notion such as standalone designs or standalone

templates.

Now a template is basically like this one, which is something or a design which is a complex design,

is composed of text, composed of images, composed of, of a bunch of elements.

And that's what why we call it template is also because you can edit it, you can modify it, you can

modify everything inside of here is customizable, but can you actually download this exactly as it

is and put it on your website?

The answer is no.

You can't download this exactly as it is.

Put it on your website or any other any other place for that matter, because you have to edit it.

For example, some of the things you can do, you can edit the text instead of here saying, Let's have

a conversation, you can see, Hi, how are you?

For example, you can change the color of this text, you can change the font.

So for example, if I go, I can take the font, I can change it to this.

Right.

So I changed the font.

You can change it to something else if you want to.

You can come over here to the text color, you can change the text color and so on and so forth.

You can take this picture right here in the back, you can delete it.

You can go and find another picture, maybe a picture of buildings, and you can add that as well.

So building, let's just say one photos take this picture and you can make this the new picture in the

background.

You can take, for example, the text, change the color of it, maybe reduce it.

Right.

And you can do whatever you want with this text, right?

But you can't use the template exactly as it is without doing a physical effort of modifying the elements

inside of that template.

You should only use templates as an inspiration.

What would that be?

If you're using these templates or if, like myself and some other people, if you're designing, for

example, low content books such as a journal.

Now on the other hand, you're allowed to take a journal such as this and apply it, but you're not

allowed to use it as it is.

Just like I said, go ahead to these elements and at least edit what's inside, edit the font, edit

the background color, for instance, this color, edit it to something else, and so on and so forth.

Maybe you can eliminate those, add your other your elements of your own.

Maybe you can take this, change its color instead of this.

You could change it to black and so on and so forth.

But you should know in no way, shape or form use a template exactly as it is.

Now.

Another thing you're not allowed to do, you're not allowed to take templates from Canva exactly as

they are without making significant modifications to them and selling them on Etsy.

You're not allowed to do that.

You're not allowed to sell them, whether that be on Etsy or on Creative Fabrica or on even Canva itself,

because Canva has a creative program and creators can actually start creating designs and publishing

them to Canva and they can sell them, but they have to be designs with your own touch, your own significant

touch in them.

And of course you are allowed to take other elements from Canva and add them on top of a template.

For example, you can go and look for maybe dots.

Dots are elements.

You can take, for example, these dots and you can use them.

You can put a dot like this.

You can just change the color, for example, to a bit.

You can put it in here.

You're allowed to do this kind of stuff.

And when you make made enough changes, you can go ahead and proceed by selling those those templates.

Of course, after you've made changes to them, you can sell them as what we call a composite or original

design.

Now let's talk about the notion of standalone design.

Now here, if you go to Canva on Elements, we have a lot of elements.

So for example, if I open a new new tab now this one is what you call a standalone design.

The reason why is because its original format is like this.

We didn't add any elements to it.

We didn't change it, we didn't improve it.

So we can't use this exactly as it is.

Whether that be in a book, whether that be in a in a blog post, whether that be in any way, shape

or form, whether that be on a t shirt or anything.

But on the other hand, after you edit this element.

You can use it now.

Unfortunately, for some elements you can only edit them as much.

Okay, so for instance, I can't take this basketball from here or this this earth and remove it.

I can't actually remove it because as you can see, everything is is grouped together.

But on the other hand, if I remove this, I take this other standalone image and if I, for example,

take it and I click on the position of it, or I go and I look for a camel.

Maybe.

So Camel.

And if I take a camel and and take a camel and put it on top of this image and I go and I add another

element, which is, for example, birds.

And if I take those birds and put these birds inside of the design like this.

And I put another text that says something like, Camels are great.

Now, this is no longer a stand alone design.

This is a composite design because I've added elements on top of it.

I made it different.

Okay.

And now you can do things such as, for instance, putting this design on a t shirt.

You can do stuff like that.

You can do a bunch of other things like that.

So and of course, you cannot take this design even after you've modified it.

You have to you have to have made significant changes to it before you can sell it as your own design.

And you cannot declare this as your copyright copyrighted design.

So you can't take this for example, there are logos here, a lot of people on Canva, they come and

they design their own logos.

So if I go here to templates.

If we look for a logo template now actually here there are no logos, so I'm going to go ahead and open

up a new tab with 500 by 500 pixels.

Because the file that I opened is huge.

It's a six by nine inches.

So now if you search for logos, yes, you are allowed to find logo templates and edit those templates

according to your specifications.

You can take a logo that already exists, you can remove the name, you can add your name, you can

add other elements as well.

But even if you've made significant changes to it, you still can't make it your trademark logo.

So if we look here for logos now, for example, we have this logo right here.

You can come over here and change this to instead of Aaron Loeb Limited, you can say passive income

gen.

Gen Z.

Now over here, I'm not sure if this is a letter.

Right.

So you can go and take the letter and the letter.

P.

Now they're going to show me the letter.

I can take the P letter, put it right here, and I can get the I letter as well.

Now this is a logo, right?

Passive income Gen Z.

But I still can't make this logo a trademarked copyrighted logo.

I can use it on my website as my own logo, but I can't make it a trademarked copyrighted logo.

The reason why is because we have used elements from Canva, but we have the right to use it because

we've made changes to it.

It's just that we can't make it our own.

If you want to make your logo your own, you have to have designed it or hired a professional designer

who took it from idea, from concept to paper to the computer.

And basically these designers, they use Adobe Photoshop and they use Illustrator and all of the above.

So these are the things you have to be aware of.

Now, other things you have to be aware of is that you can't take a Canva design and sell it, right?

So you can't take, for example, the letter P or the letter I or this picture right here and go and

upload it on other websites and sell them as if they were your own.

You can't take these designs exactly as they are and put them on a t shirt and sell them as if they

were your own.

You can't act like that.

All right.

That's against canvas copyright.

So the bottom line is always to protect yourself, you have to take an image and layer multiple images

on top of it to not make it a standalone image, especially if it's a canva image.

And I mean what I say and I say what I mean, which is especially if it's a canva image, because you

have to understand that not all images on Canva are a canva images, because there are some images that

that are provided from other sources because Canva has partnerships with Pixabay, with Pexels, with

Unsplash, with all of the other websites, which means that some images on Canva can be from those

other websites.

So for example, if you take an image, if you look for a shark, I know a lot of people don't like

sharks, but I just so happen to have watched a couple of movies about sharks these days.

And I just want to show you, for example, this image right here.

You might think it is a shark image from Canva, but it is not a Canva image.

This image is if you click on it, you know the source.

You have to hover over the image and click on these three dots.

You can see that this image is a Getty Images image, which means that the laws of copyright of this

image, the laws that apply to this image when it comes to copyright are Getty Images, laws of copyright.

So you have to go back to Getty Images to check the laws of copyright for these particular image.

And by the way, I wouldn't download images from Canva before checking their source.

So, for example, if I look for another element, which is giraffe and if I look for giraffe right

here, there are a couple of images about giraffe.

If I check right here.

Now this is an image which is also from from Getty Images.

Let's check some other images.

Let's click this one.

This one is from a specific author.

So this one is a Canva image.

Okay.

This one is provided by a Canva author and it doesn't exist on any other website.

So the laws of copyright that applies to this image are copyright laws that apply to Canva images.

So let's let's click this one.

This one is still from Getty Images.

I still couldn't find another source.

This one.

Getty Images.

Write this one as well.

Let's check.

This one.

So Getty Images are swarming the marketplace still.

All right.

So let me just go ahead and check for giraffe with two F's.

Because I was mistaken there.

Now, let me click here.

Okay.

So you can see that right now we're getting somewhere.

This image is from Pixabay, but you can find it on Canva.

A lot of people are mistaken to think that this is a Canva image, so they would apply the laws of Canva

to it.

But on the other hand, what they should be referring to is what Pixabay has to say about what they

should and they should not do about this image.

So, for example, if we go to Pixabay, you will find that the laws of copyright that apply to Pixabay

are different than than those of Canva.

This is a giraffe picture that I found on Pixabay from the author Alexis photos, who has 23,447 followers.

If you want to know exactly what to do and what not to do with this image, you have to check the content

license of this image on pixabay and you can see what you are allowed to do and what you're also not

allowed to do right now.

This is interesting.

I hope that you find this interesting.

Another interesting thing you want to be checking when you are downloading images from from these websites

such as Pixabay, Unsplash, Pexels, and all these websites is you want to be making sure that the

author or the photographer is a legit photographer that has a track record and that has been there for

a long time.

This author has joined in January 6th, 20, 2015, has 599,000 likes 111 million views and 61 million

downloads.

Okay.

And he has 437 images as editor's choice, which means that this guy is legit.

So you can trust this guy's images even if you download them for free as long as you follow the content

license that applies to each image, which you will only find if you click on that specific image and

it will show you whether that what you can do and what you can't do with this image.

And also if you click on any image at any given time, you can see whether that image also exists on

Canva.

So, for example, here they're showing you that you can use this photo to create a free design on Canva,

which means that this image is also uploaded on Canva, right?

But the laws that apply to it are laws of pixabay.

I hope that I made my point across.

And by the way, you can find if you find a lot of authors or photographers with a very low following

and if they have created their accounts very recently, which means that in the months in the prior

months and they have uploaded a lot of images, I would not trust those authors because I don't know

for sure whether those images are their own images or that they might just have downloaded these images

from other websites and uploaded them on there by using their name.

And I can't be sure whether they're spamming their way through.
