I made some plans, and unfortunately the plans

make it necessary for me to put some space between us.

>> Haley: And what are these plans?

>> Melinda: I can't say just yet, but no one can know

that you and I are related. [approaching footsteps]

Haley: JJ. What are you doing here?

>> JJ: [stammers] I-- I, uh, came back to find you.

Disappeared on me in the middle of our conversation.

I was--I was worried. >> Haley: You don't have

to worry about me. I'm fine. >> JJ: No, you're not.

Heard you on that call before, remember?

You seemed pretty upset, just like you do now.

But I know who you were talking to.

>> Chad: I know that you told Jennifer you came back

to Salem with revenge in your heart.

>> Eve: Mm, I get it. You want me to give up on Jack

so you can win some brownie points

with his daughter. Am I right?

There was a time when I could be bought.

>> Chad: Spent a huge chunk of your money

trying to get rid of Eve Donovan tonight.

Here's to hoping that it... [sighs]

>> Jack: What were we like? >> Jennifer: "A sea...

I really believe that we built a wonderful life together.

already heard, but they've indicted Stefan for treason.

I cannot begin to tell you how happy it makes me

just the thought of him rotting in a federal prison.

I just hope it means that the FBI is wrapping up

their case, and you can come home now.

It's been too long, my love. I know that you--

you want to see Jack, too. I--I don't know what else--

>> Eve: I don't know if that's gonna happen.

Jack's missing. >> Jennifer: Why would you

say that? Why would you even think

that we couldn't build a life together again, Jack?

We had our share of big problems,

I almost didn't. Why didn't just be honest

with me and tell me that you were planning a dinner

with my family? I mean, that would have saved me

so much anxiety knowing that you weren't gonna be there.

>> Chad: I wasn't sure your father was even gonna go.

>> Chad: He wasn't supposed to tell you that part.

I was sure that there was nothing you could say or do

to move me. But in the interest

of honesty, I... will admit that...

I see that you were trying to do something really special

for me, and--and to provide some healing for my family.

so she could be nearby, but there's--there's nothing

romantic between us at all, 'cause she's not the woman

>> JJ: I found Haley lying on the floor of the on-call room

I'm the one that reunited Jack with his family.

>> Kayla: Oh, yeah, I'm aware. But I also know that

the real reason that you did it was so that you could rub

this so-called "relationship" with him in all of our faces.

>> Eve: You think I would go to all that trouble--

>> Kayla: Oh, come on, you don't need to deny it.

We both know that you despise Jennifer.

And the temptation to actually cause her pain

was just too good to pass up.

And Adrienne and Steve, well, you don't really care

about them. You claim that you care

about Jack-- >> Eve: I do care about Jack.

>> Kayla: Well, then think about what he's going through.

>> Eve: What? You're painting him

as a victim, here. I mean, really?

After what he did to you? He raped you, Kayla.

I mean, if I were you I'd be really worried if my attacker

were roaming the streets of Salem.

Jack attacking me. We have an understanding.

and he just offered me a very sweet deal.

I am gonna turn him down flat, because I'm not leaving

this town until I get exactly what I came here for.

>> Jack: How could you ever fall in love with someone

>> Jennifer: No, of course not. >> Jack: But I kept hurting you

and hurting you, and running away

and running away time and time again.

Now, yes, of course, in time maybe you and I would find

our way back together, but history would just

repeat itself. >> Jennifer: No, but Jack--

>> Jack: I shouldn't be with someone like you.

Someone who only sees the good in other people.

Who's selfless and kind. The only reason

I'm here tonight, after all, is because of the money.

I should be with someone more like--more like me.

>> Chad: Look, since we're being, uh, since we're being

honest with one another I should probably tell you

that I offered Eve Donovan a job tonight.

>> Jack: She's thinking about it.

I know money can't fix all of our problems, I just--

I just figured if she does accept...

then your parents may have a stronger chance of being able

to work things out.

>> Abigail: I hope they do. [laughs softly]

>> Chad: How was it tonight? With your family.

>> Abigail: It was, uh, it was pretty good, actually.

Um, yeah, it was... it was nice.

I mean, of course, uh, you were right.

My dad did not want to be there at first, but after a while

he warmed up and-- you know, there was a moment

where it really felt like it was back to the old days--

just the four of us again-- and that was...

special. >> Abigail: Except I knew that

it wasn't going to last. Which is exactly how

it is in our little family.

>> Rex: Sarah, I made a terrible mistake,

and I have spent the past few months in Chicago

just riddled with--with guilt and--and regret--

not just because of what I did but because...

I didn't try hard enough to make things right.

I gave up on us way too easily, and that's why

I came back. To fight for you.

>> Sarah: What about your daughter?

You just abandoning her? >> Rex: What? No.

God, no. No, like I said, they're--they're in Chicago,

they're nearby. I can get there any time.

I made a commitment to raising my little girl

but, Sarah, I also made a commitment to you.

>> Sarah: [scoffs] Well, that commitment

wasn't honored, Rex. In fact, you made a mockery

of it, so why even bring it up? Because it's meaningless

to me now. >> Rex: No, it's--it's not

to me. And Sarah, I would not be able

to live with myself if I didn't do everything in my power

to prove to you that I will never jeopardize

the most important thing in my life,

and that's you. And that's us.

This--this past New Year's Eve all I could do was--

was think about you, because that's the night that

you and I were supposed to be married.

>> Eric: You know, why don't I let you two talk?

>> Sarah: No. Stay.

I didn't give you a single thought

on New Year's Eve. >> Rex: Look, I know that this

is not gonna be easy, okay? I know it's gonna take

a lot of work. I know how angry you were

when you found about Mimi and me, and how angry

you still are. And you know what?

You have every right to be. Sarah, you and I were in love.

Our feelings for each other were so strong,

to Salem? It isn't about wanting Jack.

It's about revenge. But is that really gonna fill

the hole inside of you? That loneliness that eats away

maybe you should worry about your own soul.

See, I'm not the one that's going home to a cold,

empty bed every night. >> Kayla: I can't imagine

what it must have been like when you lost Paige.

I mean, she was just such a wonderful young woman.

Really, one of the most promising students I ever had

the opportunity to mentor. How do you think

she would feel if she saw what you were up to?

>> Eve: Don't you dare. >> Kayla: I know your daughter

loved you, and I'm sure you want to live

a life that honors her. But Salem just holds

all these painful memories. Do you really want

to subject yourself to that kind of pain?

It happens every time you come back.

Why don't you try to break the cycle?

And take a chance on a fresh start.

>> Jennifer: You are nothing like Eve.

I--I know that you have things in your past

that you regret, Jack. So do I.

But you know what, did Kayla tell you?

Did she tell you that you had an abusive father?

And that--that you were given up for adoption

and you ended up with Senator Harper Deveraux,

who was so violent and so disturbed.

Jack... you were traumatized.

It's a reason. And maybe you can look

at that reason and-- and try to forgive yourself.

I know it helped me to forgive you, Jack.

And look--look, every time I had struggles,

I had this wonderful family to support me.

They loved me no matter what. You had no one.

You had to fight all of these demons on your own.

You had to do it by yourself, but you know what, Jack?

You did it. You fought so hard.

You went to therapy, you-- you paid your dues to society.

And... years later...

when I was raped... you were the one who helped me

through it, because I never thought I could

ever love or trust another man again.

But you loved me and you supported me,

and that is what got me through it.

But you didn't even believe it, Jack.

You didn't give yourself credit for anything because you never--

you never felt worthy. You blamed yourself

for everything that went wrong, even our daughter.

When Abigail got sick you blamed yourself, but really

you're the one who got us through it,

because you have this gigantic heart.

And you have this... generous spirit...

and this crazy... wicked sense of humor.

of your childhood... every time someone gets close

to you, you want to run away. And I am not going

to let you do that now, or ever again.

Of course you do. A part of you does, at least.

Otherwise you would have been able to accept Charlotte

for exactly what she was, which was a beautiful miracle

no matter who her father was. But instead, every single time

that you saw me when I was pregnant,

you were reminded about the night that I betrayed you.

You didn't even think that you could love Charlotte,

and that is the one thing I don't know if I can get past.

>> Kayla: As long as you're in Salem, you are always gonna

be reminded of Paige's death, and it's just so much harder

to move past the pain. Especially now that

Ben Weston's in town. Would I be happy

if you left town for Jennifer's sake?

I think she understands what's best for everybody,

anything about her family situation?

and I was fortunate enough to run into JJ, where he told me

the two of you were here together.

for you to try to reunite with your family,

get that, you know? I mean, it's kind of

your thing, right? You know, your disappearing act

that you always do? It makes you--it's one

of your quirks, anyway. And I know it used

to drive you crazy, right? That's one of the reasons

it's a good thing that I completely understand Jack,

'cause I'm kind of like that, too.

Kind of a free spirit coming and going all the time.

to matter. It's why we're not together anymore.
