gathered around the television set

and we waited as this guy read out

wanted me to be in the Marine Corps.

he wanted me to be a minister.

I got a high number.

I was not enlisting,

I was going to enrol in the seminary.

When I finally managed
to get the words out of my mouth,

the Colonel just
stared at me for what

felt like an eternity.

And he said, "Do me a favour, son."

And I thought,
"Oh, yeah, here it comes."

The big flag-waving lecture.
But instead,

he said:

"If you really want to be a minister,

if that is what you feel
God wants you to do,

then I hope you'll be a good one."

And I left happier than
I've ever been in my life.
