kind wrap my head around,

but I'm deep in the middle
of the Amazon jungle,

by myself, looking for food

it's just me out here
right now. It's just me.

There's nobody around.

This is a hollow tree.

I hear this, like, strange
sound coming from the tree.

I don't really know what it is.

It's almost like
heartbeats, almost, so.

There's all these
little insect wings.

Something's been having
a good meal in there.

[Rapid squeaking]

Aw, [bleep]!

Oh, my...

Ew...

The jungle is nuts!

[Narrator] Three miles
north of Steven's camp...

[Sighs]

Time to go to work.

[Narrator] Waz also finds
himself alone in the Amazon

after a bountiful
day of fishing...

Yeah, boy.

[Narrator] ...Ended in
rod' sudden sickness...

[Retching]

[Man] You're almost
home. Almost home.

[Narrator] And
emergency evacuation.

[Waz] Gary left day
two, rod left this morning.

Basically, it's the
Waz show now.

[Deep exhalation]

[Waz] I thought I was
good. I thought I'd made it.

[Laughs]

[Mosquitoes buzzing]

Definitely the plan today,

I'm gonna head back
to that other fishing hole

that was about an
hour-and-a-half walk away.

And I'm confident at
that other fishing hole,

I'll just be dragging
fish out of the water

like we did last time.

[Insects buzzing]

But I am really hungry right now

and I need some
calories in my belly.

If I do catch some fish,

I'm gonna cook them up
straight away, eat them,

and then do a
little bit more fishing

before I've gotta
leave and come home.

You see the lake's starting
to appear through there?

It's tough me being
out here by myself.

I've got to do all of the jobs.

There's no one to
help. It makes it difficult.

You can see the fishes coming up

and grabbing
stuff at the surface.

But I'm not focusing on that

I'm focusing on
the little things

I have to do every day
to get me to 40 days.

This is what we
saw the other day

when we got down here.

Just a lot of movement
on the surface.

I'm gonna get myself set up

and I'm gonna get some
food out of this water.

It's a good news
day, we got a grub.

[Thunder rumbling]

Man, that storm's
gonna be big, isn't it?

I can hear the rain.

You can hear this wall of
rain just coming towards me.

It's really ominous.

You've gotta work out if
the juice is worth the squeeze

on everything that
you do out here.

If I can catch food...
It's definitely worth it.

There he is.

Come on.

You all right? There we go.

I'm gonna keep this guy.

Come on, buddy.

[Narrator] One
mile to the south...

[Thundering]

It feels like rain.

[Narrator] Dan begins his
second day without a teammate.

[Bird squawking]

And without significant protein.

[Dan] My biggest fear in the
challenges by far, is being alone.

I'm about to climb this tree.

There's big anthurium
leaves right there.

It's so nice to patch holes in
the shelter while it's raining.

You just weave one of
these up into the wall, and...

It stops it immediately.

It just keeps thundering
and lighting out.

[Thundering]

It makes me panic inside when
I hear thunder and lightning.

I think it's 'cause my
first challenge in Mexico,

it got down to, like,
42, 43 degrees at night.

[Dan] Half of my body's numb.

I think maybe I, literally,
have PTSD from that.

Out here in the Amazon, I mean,

there all kinds of crazy
things living in every tree.

Ants can start
raining down on you

or other biting insects.

Very dangerous.

Oh, boy.

[Grunts]

[Tapping the tree]

Of course the
rain starts now, ah.

Raiding ants all over me.

Ugh.

[Bleep]

Ugh. Uh, god...

Ants are huge.

[Thundering]

Oh, no.

[Thundering]

Ah.

I still hate the rain.

[Narrator] Five miles south.

Oh, nice. Hell, yeah.

[Narrator] Amber has led Trish
and Jen to a steady supply of fish.

We'll take you to the Amazon.

[Screaming]

[Narrator] But a
difference in priorities...

We really need to
work on our roof.

[Trish] They just don't care.

I gotta get the
bed frame together,

and I gotta get enough
vines to put it together.

They've been
working on their beds

for, like, four, five days.

[Narrator] Has revealed
cracks in the all-female team.

- There's a storm coming in. It's raining.
- Yeah.

Do we have firewood?

[Amber] We have whatever we
have from last night that we didn't burn.

I think we should take a break,

and we should collect firewood
for tonight if it's gonna start raining.

I can do this if you
want to do firewood.

[Trish] We have some firewood.

Yeah, but we need more.

[Amber] Finishing up your shelter,
preparing for your environment,

is crucial out here.

Even though I've been saying we need
to reinforce the shelter for multiple day

with the girls, it's
not sticking yet.

And I think, truthfully,
it's gonna have to rain

for them to see the
detrimental effects of it.

- Jen, do you want to start looking for firewood?
- Sure.

All right, let's be optimistic.

It's raining right now.

Let's go get firewood
and stop what we're doing,

and then, um, let's
get ready for tonight.

We'll go without
food for a little bit.

[Trish] I think Amber's very competent
in her skill and her experience out here

but sometimes she just, like

doesn't have great
communication.

Yeah, we need to
get the fire going.

Jen, you wanna sit
down, I'll bring these in,

- and you can start the fire.
- Sure.

[Trish] It's the delivery.
It's how you say it.

Yeah, you guys, we
don't have much time.

It's gonna come down pretty bad.

[Trish] Just in case
the fire goes out,

we'll have these
to start the fire.

A nice little tinder bundle.

They're wet, but it's something.

It's better than having nothing.

[Trish] Damn, that's a breeze.

[Amber] It sure is.

Whoo, we're about to get wet.

And our roof is looking slim.

Yeah, let's bring in those logs.

You might wanna
get in the shelter.

It's getting colder.

Holy crap.

[Wind howling]

Come on. One last bite.

[Groaning]

Take it. There we go.

Aw. Just got a
little one on there.

I've got a couple of
fish up here on land,

but this storm that's
coming is massive.

The sky's really ominous.
It's getting really windy.

I think something
massive I coming in,

which is a little bit
dangerous for me,

so I'm gonna get outta here

I've a full-size fish there
that'll fill my belly up.

I've got a smaller one,

and then half the one
we're using as bait.

I'll eat that as well. There
no need wasting that.

I'm gonna need a
little bit of firewood.

But I'm getting that fire goin',

and I'm gonna
have fish in my belly.

[Steven] The wind's pickin' up.

[Birds squawking]

I hate thunder.

With all the rain,
there's no animals here.

Which makes sense,

'cause the animals don't wanna
be crotch deep in water either.

It's cold.

Temperature drops 20 degrees.

Hypothermia is a real thing.

Window makers falling in
this canopy is a real thing.

It's really important I get back
to camp as soon as possible.

Venture out and get
those leaves that I cut.

Oh, it's so wet.

It's thundering and
lightning out here right now.

I'm getting anxiety.

I'm running out
trying to pick leaves,

and just shore up the
shelter as best I can.

These leaves are
totally worth the effort.

I'm able to, like,
just in ten minutes,

stick these up in
all the holes inside,

and totally waterproof
the inside of my shelter.

Ouch.

Fire is too hot.

Okay, that's enough. Over it.

Damn.

[Thunder rumbling]

Whoa.

[Tree crashing]

Oh, my god!

Storm's coming in pretty good,

but it just dropped me a
nice new piece of firewood

and some shingling
right into my front lawn.

Thank god I wasn't
standing there.

It knocked the top
of that tree right off.

Holy [bleep], that
could have killed me.

A good ten, 15 feet off the top of
that tree fell off, but... I don't know,

now it's probably 30-feet tall.

Man, my heart is
racing from that.

It's [bleep] intense.

Bone dry inside here right now.

I'm gonna try to ride out
the storm as best I can.

[Groans]

[Waz] This is one of the hard
things about being out here solo

is the fact that I've
had to walk an hour,

catch these fish,
walk an hour back.

And, uh, I get back to
camp, I can't just eat 'em.

I can't just put 'em
on a fire and eat 'em.

I've gotta set them down.
I've gotta clean them.

I've gotta go collect firewood.

It's a lot of work between catching
those fish and eating those fish,

and that's why it would be
nice having another person,

um, and have that
division of labor a little bit

where things just run a
little bit smoother and quicker.

Oh, it's hot in there.

You wanna cook
the fish all the way.

There's parasites in there.
There's bacteria in there.

It's definitely not
something I wanna do

is put some raw
fish in my mouth.

That's a big risk.

If you get sick out here, it
gonna be coming out both end

from a survival perspective

it puts you in a
real bad situation.

It's so delicious.

I can take a lot
of joy from this,

but, like anything with life,

if you have someone to
share that moment with,

especially the good moments,

then it's always just gonna
be that little bit more special.

So, it would be nice
to have someone here.

Right now, I'm just gonna
sit here and enjoy this.

[Jen] It's super windy,
a total downpour,

so, we're all hunkered
down in our shelter.

Tryin' to keep our fire going

it's pretty intense.

I think this is, like, the
craziest storm we've had

since we've been here.

None of us are
going outside in this.

No, ah!

Half of my shelter's holding up,

the other half isn't.

But I just found a little spot
that is the most protected.

[Thundering]

[Sighing]

[Dan] It's been
raining all night.

I'd appreciate if it
stopped anytime now.

[Jen] I'm getting
wet on my butt.

Yeah, it's so hard. This is the
hardest rain I think we've had.

You could hear the
thunderstorms rolling in

as it was going dark,

and then just a deluge of water.

Like, it just dumps so
much water so quickly,

it was insane.

And also, I've
been itchy all day.

There is flies, there's
ants there's mosquitoes.

All these things just
constantly barraging you,

biting you, sucking
your blood out.

[Amber] I froze my
ass off last night.

[Jen] Oh, my gosh.
Look at your butt.

[Amber] The rain brings
out every type of insect,

every single bug you
could ever think of,

and puts it in your shelter.

- This is what happens to us.
- Look at all that blood.

It's like these flies that she
just killed with her finger on me

- is, like, they're just...
- Bastards.

Horrible. And evil.
These little bastards.

They just suck
your life all day long.

[Steven] Holy crap.
What a freakin' nightmare.

Everything's totally soaked

I mean, just totally saturated.

Soaking wet ground.

It was just tempest death
Noah's ark flood rain.

I mean, it was dumping.

[Steven] I'm hungry.

Haven't had any protein
in the past couple days,

but, uh, I need to put
a roof on my shelter.

I wish there were palms here

it's the only way to make it
even in the realm of waterproof.

But there's not, so, I'm
gonna have to debris it up.

Towards the river,

there's a big grass
bed that's dead

and kind of overcoming
these big fallen trees.

And I'm gonna use that
grass as the base of my debris.

Since there is water.
Water brings animals.

So, this is extremely dangerous.

The smaller the debris is,
the more compact I can get I

the more compact it is,
the better for waterproofing

if I can get this base on,

and then lash it
down really tight,

it's gonna help
my waterproofing.

It's like the song says,
it's all about the base.

Slowly adding this layer

to the roof of my shelter.

Making sure it's even.

Making sure I can't
see my bed underneath.

Priority number one
now that the roof's done,

fire, water, food.

[Trish] Definitely not
going in the water.

It's really such a
mess after a storm.

[Amber] Today, we
came up with a plan

that we're going'
to work on the roof,

which is great, and get it done.

[Trish] I was cold
enough last night,

- I don't need to be cold anymore.
- Yeah.

We have so many tasks
and necessary things to do,

but it's Paramount right no

to, again, reinforce the shelter

to make sure that the
other half is waterproof.

Are you okay?

- Yeah, are you ready?
- Yeah.

Let's just go grab
hella palms right now.

Okay.

[Amber] I've been
mentioning it every day,

"hey, we need to
work on the roof.

We need to work on the roof."

And finally, Trish
and Jen said, "yes."

They wanna learn.
They're willing to work.

Whatever we've gotta do.

If we stack enough
of them, it'll be worth it.

Okay.

[Birds calling]

[Jen] I feel like Trish and Amber
are both really strong survivalists.

But there's some tension. So, I'm
just glad that we can work together

to reinforce our
shelter. Add more palms.

It's extremely beneficial
for the temperature inside

as well as if it
potentially rains.

And, so, we're gonna
strip it in the middle,

- lay 'em like this, and then weave.
- Yep.

- Okay?
- Yeah. Let's do that.

It's like a razor going
through this thing.

Hmm-hmm.

Ow! [Bleep] Ouch!

[Groans]

Ooh. Ah!

Ooh. Ah!

God, I really scratched my boob.

That looks pretty gross.

That was pretty painful!

- Oh, Trish.
- Yeah?

- I totally hurt my boob.
- [Trish gasps]

Oh, yeah. Oh, god,
it's right across your nip.

Yeah. All the way. It hit me
right there, and like [bleep].

Ah, you poor thing. That sucks.

That looks as if
you got cut by a cat.

Maybe it could have
been a cougar out there.

- I wasn't sure.
- Could've been.

I thought we were the
only cougars out here.

- Are you okay?
- Yeah, I'm fine. Just it hurts.

[Amber] I'm resilient
enough to get past the pain

and just keep pushing forward.

Should we rack and stack 'em?

Definitely.

[Jen] We've tried a lot of
different ways with the shingles,

but, I mean, these
allow fuller coverage

because they
create the full sheet,

so they should still be
protected even when they dry out.

That's great and that
really covered so much.

We had so much
open here, it was bad.

[Amber] The girls and I are communicating
with each other we respect each other.

I see them. I know that they
can be beasts in the wild.

[Trish] The shelter
is every single day.

You can't just set
it and forget it, so...

We are learning that, and we are doing
what we can to make sure that we stay dry.

[Amber] Why don't we
go cut some palm nuts

and get some larva and
then we'll kinda go from there.

- [Jen] Yeah.
- And get some good fish, set up a couple of lines

and try to get some
more protein for us to eat.

[Amber] All right,
team taj let's rally!

[Dan] I didn't sleep so well

ironically, not
because of the rain...

Even though it poured all night
long, but because I was itchy.

But there's one
advantage to all this rain,

I am going to make
myself a little garden.

At home I work on really
remote, bio-secure islands

which means we try really
ha to prevent any introduction

of plants or animals to
the that might go invasive.

And as part of that, we
don't let people eat tomatoes

for 48 hours before
going on to the islands.

Because seeds of tomatoes
can pass through digestive tract

totally intact and
sprout really well.

So out here, I thought of
doing some reverse biosecurity.

[Chuckles] So I ate a bunch of
tomatoes before starting the challenge.

All right. Last night before
we start the challenge.

I'm trying to squeeze
in one last snack.

A nice, big juicy tomato
with seeds that just so happen

to pass through
your digestive tract.

When I started the challenge and
went to the bathroom for the first time,

I mixed it with some dirt,

and there's a bunch of a little tomato
sprouts coming out of the ground.

To my surprise!

So I am going to
bring Naked and Afraid

from the paleolithic
to the neolithic.

This is the sunniest
spot I can find.

I think tomatoes need full sun.

If I can start Naked and Afraid
agriculture out her, that would be amazing.

Making little terraces here.

This is going to be great.

Okay.

And I couldn't be
more proud. [Chuckles]

Check it out, the
little sproutlets!

Put a little water.
Grow big and strong.

I don't think anyone's ever tried to have
a garden on any challenge before ever.

But to have a garden and have
it actually produce food for me...

It will probably
take about 40 days

for these to produce
fruit, I'm guessing.

That's an evolutionary human
existence. That's a big deal.

And there you have it.

Agriculture.

We'll see how they do.

[Waz] Today is a fishing day so
even though it's pretty frustrating

having to make and hour and
a half walk away to get there,

I'm happy to do that
to get food in my belly.

For me, it's worth walking
through mud, far away from camp,

if it means getting
some fish out of that lake.

But unfortunately, this morning,

I'm also having to deal wit a whole bunch
of fire ants, just all over me all at once

and I don't even know
where they came from.

I'm not going to
get upset by it.

The number one thing
I want to focus on today

is to get some food.

I don't know if I like this.

I've been down here for a while,

and I've not even had a
nibble, not a bite. Nothing.

I haven't seen any
splashes in the water.

I don't know what has happened.

I wonder how this works, like...

Maybe something
to do with the storm?

Something's happened where
the fish aren't biting anymore,

which is a little bit strange.
I'm trying to work that out.

It's really weird that just... zero
bites. Doesn't make a lot of sense

it's like the fish have just
gone on holiday or something.

Yeah, no, there's nothing.

[Trish] Hey, this
is kind of solid.

- [Jen] It is solid.
- [Trish] It's a good log.

[Trish] Think we can drag this
puppy? Bust it in a few big chunks.

[Amber] All right,
looking good, beauties.

Let's go to the water in the sun

and let's come up
with a game plan.

[Amber] Now that we're working
together I'm gonna talk to the girls

about really expanding
our horizon and just,

you know, do caiman hunts, get a
bunch of fish and getting [bleep] done.

[Amber] I'm thinking we should
consider fishing down here.

I think we'll have
better fishing on the river

because the pond
is really limited.

Like, it takes us about an
hour or two hours in the morning

and if we miss that
window coming out of here

- I bet we'll get some big fish.
- Yeah.

- [Amber] We should have a dock built.
- [Jen] Yeah.

This could be a
good team project.

Let's build a little platform.

- Maybe, um, that platform could turn into a raft.
- A raft.

So build the dock
that is, essentially,

a two-in-one piece with a raft

and then, um, set up an area
where we can move hyacinths

and actually have
a square set out

so we can actually just
go there and fish daily.

I was thinking of starting
to maybe cut that tree

and have it just drop
right across the hyacinths...

- Mm-hm.
- And see this how far we can get.

[Jen] The biggest
tree in the Amazon!

We see this tree that's
right by the edge of the water

and it looks long enough that it
could go nearly halfway across.

[Amber] Let's chop it down. That
thing is gonna be perfect for our dock.

Once we cut down the tree, it will
act as our pier out to the deeper water.

Then we'll clear out the hyacinth
to create an open fishing platform

and build the raft that attaches
to the tree like a floating dock.

I'm staying here for 60 days.

This dock is so necessary because we
have to transition away from our ponds

that we have near
our shelter to the river.

It's what will provide.

We're gonna cut
down this damn tree

and we're gonna
make an amazing dock.

[Trish] The rewards are
a dock will clear almost

all the way to the other side

so we can open
up our exploration

and maybe find something new.

The risks, however,
are that it's a huge tree,

so it's a big undertaking,

and, um, it's gonna take
days to cut this down, it's huge.

[Amber] I'm gonna
take some hacks

and then we can
rotate back and forth.

- Do you know what I mean?
- [Trish] Yeah.

I'm following the tree so
that it's easier for us to snap it.

[Jen] Sure.

- [Amber] This tree is solid!
- [Jen] Yeah.

When I'm hacking
into this tree, I'm, like,

"oh, my god, of course,
it has to be the hardest

goddamn tree in the Amazon."

But with my team,
we are unstoppable.

- Okay, Jen, you're up.
- Okay.

- I think I put a good dent in it.
- Yeah, you did.

- Keep it consistent and then we'll saw a little, too.
- Okay.

[Rhythmic tapping]

Ooh, everything is moist.

The weather out
here is unpredictable.

It can be hot and sunny and then
rainy and freezing the next moment.

I need to get more firewood 'cause
last night I burned through a ton of it

I wanted to keep the fire big
and strong while it was raining.

A couple more trips
and I'll be satisfied.

I was just paranoid, so... [chuckles]
So, I really don't have much left.

You know, I feel like when you're
out here you're constantly reminded

that danger is
literally everywhere.

You know, there's all kinds of
things on land that could get me,

so you still have
to be vigilant.

One snakebite, one
bite of something out he

could take me out of this
challenge in five minutes.

Oh! [Bleep] Ow!

Jesus Christ!

[Dan grunts in frustration]

[Dan gasps in pain]

[Growling] What
the [bleep] was that?

I think it was a scorpion. Ow.

Kinda feels like scorpion bites.

[Narrator] There are over 50 types
of venomous scorpion in the Amazon

with sting effects ranging from
intense burning and swelling

to paralysis.

[Groans in pain] Ugh.

Actually maybe
it was a scorpion.

I can feel it moving
through my foot, like...

Looking for firewood to
bring back to my shelter

and take one step
and my foot is burning.

It feels different than the bee
sting 'cause the pain's moving.

It is excruciating.

I just wanna, like, clean it

that fat little toe, it's
swelling up like crazy.

Yeah, I think I'm good for
collecting firewood for now.

[Bleep]

It's no joke.

I'm hearing so many
birds and creatures

and a lot of frogs tonight,

so, um, a lot happening
out there right now.

[Croaking]

- Why don't I see him?
- Right here.

- [Jen] Oh, my god...
- [Amber] Hurry!

He's huge!

We have to be really careful.
It could burn your hand.

- [Trish] Ha!
- [Amber] Ooh, nice! Oh, he's peeing!

[Trish] Oop, oop,
oop! Oh, my god.

[Jen] That is the biggest
frog I've ever seen.

- [Amber] Wow!
- Oh, my god.

Look at the size of those legs.

[Narrator] The
smokey jungle frog

can grow up to
eight inches long,

but secretes poisonous toxins from
its skin as a defense mechanism.

Here he is. And I tied him up.

I tied him up on
his little waist.

I have him chained to the tree.

And all the stuff on the
ground, this white stuff,

is from when I caught
the frog last night.

It, like, secreted a
whole bunch of liquid.

And, um, it's all on the
ground even today. It's still here.

So I'm really glad that
we made the decision

to not do anything with him last night
while it was dark and we didn't really...

Like, we couldn't see anything.

You see all the white.

That's from untying the
cord that I had around the frog

which was on his skin, so
it's turned my hand white.

Is it worth killing him?

[Amber] How did your hands feel
after you washed them last night?

I had a cut on my hand
and it started to burn.

[Amber] Mm, yeah.

[Trish] It's not
really that safe.

I don't have soap or anything
to really clean with out here, so...

[Amber] You're gonna let him go?

- Yeah...
- That's your decision?

I'm gonna let
him go. I think so.

[Trish] Hi, buddy. Good
news, you've been set free.

- All right, buddy.
- [Jen] Bye, buddy.

Do you wanna get some mud in
there and get really deep with it?

No, it's good. It's cleaned off.

- Okay.
- Yeah, it's good.

[Steven] I have to go deeper
and deep into the unknown jungle.

And the deeper you go, the thicker it
gets, uh, the more dangerous it gets.

I mean, we're in the jungle

I mean, the ground is alive
like, you look at it and it moves.

From scorpions to spiders
to snakes, you know,

just everything.

This place is wild.

I gotta go find food, I have
to find where the animals are.

First couple of days I was
here, I ran into this bog marsh.

It's a pretty good
distance away.

That's a perfect little breeding
area for these caimans,

so I'm gonna see if
maybe I can call one in

or find a nest or something.

[Steven sighs deeply]

I'm gonna try and call caiman
like I call alligators back at home...

[Calling caimans]

And see if I can get
'em to call back to me.

[Making screeching sound]

I don't know a whole lot about
caimans, but I grew up with alligator

I grew up in Florida, so... water
moccasins and alligators is my jam,

but here it's
different, it's harder.

It's nerve-racking. I'm
expelling a lot of calories.

To have a really big protein
source would be great right now,

but especially not having really
any food for the past 48 hours,

I need a big score, baby!

[Tapping]

[Amber] Ooh. Get down.

After we decided
to let the frog go,

we wanted to get an early
start at chopping down that tree.

We're actually
doing pretty good.

[Jen] Oh, yeah!
Looks pretty deep.

I think if we spent 15, 20 minutes
each, we'll get the tree down.

[Amber] Like, this
is a really hardy tree.

[Jen] Look at this.
Can you see it?

- [Trish] Oh, with the hole at the bottom?
- [Jen] Yeah!

[Amber] Is that a wasp nest?

- [Jen] Oh, my goodness!
- [Trish] Yeah.

[Trish] Enough hornets
sting any of us, I mean,

we could be seriously
affected by that.

Just one hornet sting is enough,
like, imagine a whole nest.

[Amber] It's risky, but the
hornets' nest is pretty high up

and when it falls it should land

out in the middle of the water.

If we have to take breaks to get
away from them, that's what will happen.

- [Amber] You're up.
- [Trish] All right.

I'll give it a shot
with this thing...

- Okay.
- See what happens.

[Amber] Higher.
Use one hand, babe.

- Are you micromanaging me?
- I'm just helping. I cut down trees.

I know. I do, too.

[Trish] Amber can be
pretty fricking challenging

and, um, I have a hard
time with faking [bleep].

Like, I'm not a good
faker. I'm not a good liar.

[Amber] Do this,
you're so strong, Trish...

- I'm not doing it.

[Amber] I've cut down
a lot of trees in Montana.

- We'll definitely have to take a break from...

Being out here alone sucks, man.

It's not only
because of the fact

that you have to do all the work
alone, but just for me, you know,

I'm an extrovert.

It's hard to see the joy in all
of it when you're by yourself.

Today I am going to go out
and scout for some resources

this jungle's a whole network
of different ecosystems,

with different resources

and hopefully some
fruits and things like that

and other things that
I can utilize out here

but really I'd
be lying if I said

I wasn't just looking
for any sign of life.

Any sign of life at all, anywhere
else in this jungle someone to join me.

I have a terrible
sense of direction,

but one thing I can do is
keep the river on my right,

so that's the one thing that'll
help me from getting lost.

If I went straight back
into the jungle right now,

I would never find my way back.

look at the nest.

[Amber] That hornets'
nest was a nightmare.

I woke up and I was like, "nice!"
I didn't scratch them or itch them.

They're all over my body.

They look like penny tags
with little dots in the middle.

So, we decided to go back and
finally get the nest off the tree

so we can start
building our dock.

[Jen] How's the hornet nest?

- [Trish] It looks empty.
- [Amber] It does look empty. [Gasping] What?

I don't see any
hornets in there.

You would have known if
the hornets were still there.

- They would have been out.
- Yeah.

There's nothing in there,
but there's five million ants.

They're all coming out.

[Amber] I'd rather
focus on the hornets first.

Well, there's no
hornets in there.

Well, these are fire ants
and they bite and they burn.

So now we have to really come
up with a plan to knock that off.

[Trish] There's no
hornets in there.

- [Amber] I just wanna make 100% sure.

price type deal.

We get a raft and
also a dock set up.

in the middle with the raft

so we may have to
create other logs to attach

to the top of the tree
and strap them on

as we walk across it.

The girls haven't built a raft on
any of their challenges before.

I have a ton of experience
with building rafts

so hopefully they'll
listen to my guidance.

feeds water into me.

It's a little bitter.
It tastes earthy

but it's fresh.

Got about a cup and a half of
water straight from mother earth.

It's just nice how nature
provides when you need it most,

but gonna keep on trucking.

I'm out here on a mission right
now, so I'm gonna do the best I can

to kind of put
something on the table.

I'm gonna tread
round here for probably

another hour, hour
and a half or so

'cause I got a long
trek back to camp.

It looks like there's an

The elevation is changing a lot.

This terrain is rough and dense

and we're gonna use this net
for both the pond and the river.

Hopefully it'll hold up

to the things that have
teeth in the river, but...

It'll be a multi-purpose net

to scoop up bait fish
and maybe even piranha.

in the net too long

and I'm not gonna stop.

This is prime spot for
caiman and caiman nesting.

I'm liking the environment
that I'm in right now.

It screams carnivore-dinosaur,

so, you know, fingers crossed
we come across something.

[Whispering] So, I
found a mound of debris

right by the water's edge.

It looks like a caiman nest.

It's super dangerous to
approach any crocodilia nest,

whether it's caiman,
alligator or crocodile.

They're extremely protective
and they will defend their nest

against anybody and anything

[whispering] I gotta
keep my head on a swivel.

They will erupt
out of the water,

mouth open, hissing, snarling

and they'll protect
it with their lives.

[Whispering] Check it out.

That's a caiman egg right there.

How amazing is that?

I can't tell if it's
fertilized or not.

Caiman out here get
to about six-eight feet.

All crocodilian species are
very aggressive and protective

when it comes to their nests.

They'll build this debris hut
basically around their eggs

and it regulates the
temperature of the eggs

so they don't have to be the

and depending on the
temperature of the nest

determines the
sex of the caiman,

so if mama's around,
which I'm sure she is

'cause they always are.

I'm a little concerned

mama would come
rushing out of that water,

like, Jurassic park style.

[Whispering] So, I
found a caiman nest.

If mama's around, I'm surprised

she hasn't made her
presence known yet.

Back home if you get
within three feet of a nest

within a minute mama
Dukes is right there, up on you.

I don't know a whole
lot about caimans

but I grew up with alligator
and worked with them for years.

This is the first time I've ever
approached a crocodilian nest in my life

and not had the mom
try and bite my face off.

Even in the swamps, when
we're cruising on our airboats,

if we get too close to one
the mom will attack the airboat.

That's how protective
they are of their nest.

Now, looking at these...

They don't look fertilized.

There's almost two yoke
membranes on each end of the egg

and usually, when
they're fertilized,

they start getting
softer, the shell itself

and you'd be able to see,
like, an embryo in there.

The good news is I'm gonna
take these back to camp with me

and have a little
hard-boiled egg party.

I got about a dozen
and a ha caiman eggs

and there's probably
about another 18 eggs

left in the nest.

I've got pretty broad shoulders

gotta work out a few things

take off some of the bumps

and smooth out some of the
grooves, and all that sort of stuff.

First of all, what
I'm doing here

is just mixing a bunch
of clay with some water

so I've got a thick soup,

and this is gonna get
poured over the gaps

and, sort of, leak in and
join everything together.

I don't want it
to be too watery,

'cause then it will never dry.

I really need that
perfect consistency,

where it's still able
to drip through,

but it's gonna set eventually.

It's looking pretty good.

Got there, that's done and done.

I'm gonna do some fishing,

so I'm gonna get set
up some passive lines.

I'll take a couple of hooks
and see if I can retie 'em.

these passive lines,

it takes zero energy,
which is pretty significant,

especially when we've been out
here not eating a whole heck of a lot.

Yeah, I got four hooks ready.

But we're trying to trap and hunt
things within pretty close range.

[Waz] Whatever
fish we get out there

are gonna be definitely
another good sign

and a bump in
the right direction.

[Steven] Need to get this fire
going get a nice bed of coals.

I got about a dozen
and a ha caiman eggs,

and there's probably
about another 18 eggs left

in the nest.

That, right there,

that's four days' worth of food,

so I'm gonna boil these
up, see how that is,

I've never had boiled
caiman eggs before,

and, hopefully, they're just
like hard-boiled eggs at home.

It's probably between 20 and
36 grams of protein, right there,

which is the equivalent to
about a small chicken breast

so that's substantial.

so I try to rely on my
biological experience,

of the animals in the area,

and what attracts
them, that kind of thing,

and the one animal that I know
is reliably coming to a certain spot

is the vulture.

It's coming to my bait spot

it's learned that I've
been leaving food out for it,

so it keeps coming
back to that same spot,

so I think I'm gonna try
to build an ojibwa bird trap

excited to try this out.

It's a native American design

and, basically, it's just, like,
a big post with a hole in it,

with a peg that fits
perfectly in there.

I'll have the snare wire
laying on that piece of woo

and onto a weight that's
suspended off the ground.

Theory is,

a big bird will come down
and land on the perch,

ideally for some bait,

and when it lands,
it'll knock this down.

The bird's instinct is to
keep grabbing onto the stick

for a minute, while
it's trying to fly away.

When this falls down,
the weight'll drop,

and the snare wire that's on the
stick will tighten right around its legs.

Come on, whittled enough.

There we go, did it.

Just needs a weight.

[Waz] That one you're
about to stand on,

that's the one I suggest
using the weight.

I'm really impressed by
what Dan's done so far,

and obviously, in survival,

failing to plan is
planning to fail.

Dan says there's a chance
we can snag a vulture,

down by our fishing hole,

so executing that plan is
the best chance of survival.
