I'm the one who told her that I really wished I could spend

here, spending time with her made me see what's really best

Why are you doing this, to get over the fact that Rex

mom and JJ as you are with me. But now your dad is back,

You need to talk things through. Your mom and JJ and I weren't

there when you needed us to believe in you,

but none of us ever stopped loving you for a single second.

Chad." >> Jennifer: Hey.

Chad called me at work. He feels like he's the reason

that you have resentment towards JJ and me, so he--

he planned this dinner so maybe we could just sit and--and talk.

>> Abigail: Without telling me. >> JJ: He was afraid

you wouldn't come if-- if you knew it was us.

>> Abigail: So you're in on this too?

Hmm, three of you against me. Nothing's changed, huh?

>> Haley: Will you please calm down?

I did not tell Kayla Johnson anything.

>> Melinda: You had better be straight with me.

>> Haley: I am. >> Melinda: I've worked too hard

and too long to get to where I am in this town.

My life is not going down the tubes because of my

screwed-up little sister.

>> Maggie: In the first place, I was given to understand

that Chloe had no problem with Eric seeing Holly.

And in the second place, I didn't give my approval.

I was on the elliptical, working out.

when I was done, I found a note from Sarah.

So get off your high horse! >> Brady: Sarah--Sarah took

Holly without asking Chloe's permission or telling you

in advance. And she left a note?

You don't think that's pushing it just a little bit, Maggie?

>> Maggie: Maybe. >> Brady: Hmm?

>> Maggie: Maybe. But, you know, Sarah is squarely

on Eric's side in this. And I don't know why.

And as for you... I don't think this is just

about your concern for Holly. >> Brady: What's that

supposed to mean? >> Maggie: Oh, well, let's see.

That I've noticed how protective you are of Chloe.

>> Brady: She's my ex-wife. She's my friend, Maggie.

>> Maggie: Uh-huh. You're still getting over Eve.

I would hate to see you getting involved with Chloe again,

especially now.

>> Chloe: Um, so what made you change your mind?

>> Eric: Seeing Holly.

Seeing how well she's doing under awful circumstances.

And I'm sure that has a lot to do with being around

Parker and Maggie and mainly you.

I don't want to disrupt her life any more than it's already been.

>> Chloe: I'm really glad that you feel that way.

And thank you. And truly, I apologize for what

I said to the both of you before.

It's just that I take my responsibility very seriously.

And I meant what I said before. I want you to be

in Holly's life. But next time you want to see

her, can you please just ask me in advance?

I'm not trying to be a gatekeeper.

I just want to keep her safe, you know?

>> Eric: I promise. >> Melinda: I have made a lot of

that got done on me and the lies I had to defend

myself against, I cannot believe that you guys

thought that tricking me into having dinner was somehow

>> Abigail: Oh. But you, uh--you just

went along with it anyway. >> JJ: Look, okay, let's just--

let's just try to calm down. >> Abigail: JJ,

don't ever tell me to calm down again, okay?

Never. >> JJ: Abigail, we don't have

to talk about any of that. We can just--we can just sit

down and eat dinner together. We can be together.

>> Abigail: [stammers] >> JJ: Look, I know I miss that.

I thought you might too. >> Jennifer: I just thought that

maybe it would be so nice for the three of us to sit down

and share a meal. >> Jack: Three?

I was told that this would be a party of four.

I shouldn't have got into it with Chloe again.

>> Eric: It's okay. >> Sarah: And I probably

shouldn't have done what I did. >> Eric: Did I tell you how much

[chuckles softly] Holly forgot her Dirty Kitty.

>> Sarah: Sorry, Dirty Kitty? >> Eric: Yeah, that's what she

calls it. >> Sarah: [laughs]

>> Eric: But I can, uh-- you know, I'll just drop it off

at Chloe's tomorrow. >> Sarah: Are you sure that

you're okay with letting Holly go?

You seem sad. >> Eric: Well, I was looking

forward to raising a child, especially Nicole's.

But, um, it was a hard decision,

but I know in my heart it was the right one for Holly.

>> Sarah: You know, Chloe was right.

This was none of my business. I just--I think the reason

that I got involved is that I know what a great guy you are,

and I think that Holly will be lucky to have you

in her life, no matter what your role is.

>> Eric: Hey, do you have to go? I was, uh--

you know, I was gonna make dinner.

That is, if you don't have any other plans.

>> Sarah: Well... lucky for you,

I don't have any plans.

>> Brady: Eve already let me have it about Chloe, okay?

I thought you'd be a little more understanding, Maggie.

>> Maggie: You and Chloe have a bad history.

Do you understand that Chloe was the one person--

the one person that I actually could talk to about

losing custody of my son? And--and--and also, I--

when I broke off my engagement with Eve, Maggie, she, uh--

she didn't pile on about what-- what a bitch Eve was.

She didn't... she didn't do that to me.

She just let me vent, and I was appreciative of that,

and I needed that, and... Chloe's my friend.

about the fact that I had broken off the engagement,

to take all the anger out on Jennifer.

>> Maggie: Do you have any idea how Eve found out

she plans to put her hooks into Jack

>> Jack: Well, this, um... this guy named Chad DiMera just

appeared out of the blue and-- >> Abigail: Why am I not

surprised? >> Jack: Well, he--he wanted me

to meet with the three of you, and--and--and I said I already

had plans with Eve so I couldn't do it.

But the guy wouldn't take no for an answer.

>> Abigail: Sounds like Chad. He's my ex-husband, by the way.

>> Jennifer: Wait, so Chad convinced you

to come eat with us? >> Jack: He said he'd write me

a check for $10,000. >> JJ: Are you kidding me?

>> Abigail: Oh, my God. >> JJ: The--hold on.

The--the only reason you would have dinner with your family

is if Chad paid you ten grand? >> Jack: Whoa, whoa, whoa.

The fact is, I-I don't know any of you from Adam.

>> Jennifer: Jack, for all these years, weren't you even curious

I was putting all my energy into fighting my way back

from the brink of death. >> Abigail: So, what, Chad's

$10,000, that was, uh-- it was compensation

for all that you've suffered? >> Jack: I-I suppose you could

look at it that way. The way I see it,

what kind of man would I be if I continued to sponge off of Eve?

>> Chad: I don't know if you've heard yet, but Stefan's

been arrested. >> Eve: And that would be

interesting to me because of what?

>> Chad: Well, the interesting part is, the, uh, board

of DiMera doesn't care to have their CEO sitting in the joint.

Stefan's been removed. I'm in charge now.

>> Eve: Hmm! Well, goody for you, Chad.

>> Chad: Well, I know that you worked for the company

at one point... and you're at liberty.

How would you like to have another job?

>> Haley: I have to go. >> Melinda: Haley.

>> Haley: I'm sorry I got in your way.

You don't have to worry about me much longer.

>> Melinda: Haley, don't go, please.

[sighs] If you want to know the truth,

my mood today doesn't have anything to do with you.

It's been a rotten day because of a woman named

Abigail Deveraux. >> Haley: Any relation to

JJ Deveraux? >> Melinda: JJ is her brother.

How do you know him?

>> Jack: So... Abigail...

you were telling me that I have two grandchildren.

What are their names again? >> Jennifer: Mm-hmm.

>> Abigail: Uh, Thomas and Charlotte.

>> Jack: Nice names. Nice. Uh...

maybe I can come see them sometime soon.

>> Jennifer: Mm! >> JJ: Hmm, what would you

charge for that, Dad? >> Jennifer: Jack, you--you

should see little Charlotte. She is precious.

She is so cute. She is really starting to look

just like a Deveraux. >> Jack: Well, that's so

interesting, since neither of these kids look like me.

>> Jennifer: Jack, they are yours.

>> JJ: I was worried about a friend of mine.

We were in the middle of a important conversation,

and she sort of... took off.

>> Abigail: Why don't you do something about it

if you're so worried about her, like--I don't know--

important too. Chad went to a lot of trouble

to bring us all together. >> Jack: I'm sensing some

I've had my own problems, and I wasn't here for Abigail

when she needed me. I want you to know,

Abigail, I'm sorry about that. And I'm here now.

>> Jack: It couldn't have been easy for you at your age to...

suddenly be the man of the family.

>> Jennifer: It wasn't easy for either of your children

to get over you. And it wasn't for me either.

So when's the wedding? >> Jack: What wedding?

>> Jennifer: Yours, of course. >> Jack: [laughs]

I have no plans to get married. >> Jennifer: Well, you should

tell that to Eve, because she said she wasn't gonna stop

until she was Mrs. Jack Deveraux.

>> Eve: I really appreciate this offer.

I mean, I really do. The problem is, there's not much

for me to go back to DiMera for. You see, Stefan, uh, liquidated

Basic Black about the same time Brady and I hit the skids.

>> Chad: People are beginning to realize that Stefan, despite

his claims to the contrary, was a lousy businessman.

One of his worst decisions was letting you go.

I think you'd be an asset to the company.

May I? >> Eve: Mm-hmm.

As what? >> Chad: Senior VP.

>> Eve: You're joking. >> Chad: If I was joking,

would I have this contract ready to be signed?

[tense music] ♪ ♪

>> Maggie: You say a lot about what Eve says, what Eve wants

now that she's back. What about you?

>> Brady: What about me? >> Maggie: Did seeing her

make you realize that you may still have feelings for her?

>> Brady: I mean, I--Maggie, I tried to reach out to her.

I tried to... I tried to find the woman that

I thought she had turned into, that she had changed into,

and she just-- she just swatted me away.

I swear to God, I don't even recognize the woman

that I used to love.

>> Chad: Everything look all right?

>> Eve: [laughs] You serious about this salary?

>> Chad: Dead serious. And if you take the job,

it'll be worth every penny. >> Eve: [laughs]

This job isn't in Salem. This job is in your office

in Paris. Oui, madame.

>> Haley: JJ's an EMT. He's in and out of the hospital

all the time. >> Melinda: Don't hold out

on me, little sister. I catch people in lies

for a living. >> Haley: Okay.

He was the one who found me in the on-call room.

>> Haley: And since then, he checks in on me

every so often, just to see how I'm doing.

>> JJ: I would be careful, Dad. Eve has a way of getting

what she wants, and, uh, what she wants more than

anything is sticking it to Mom. >> Jack: Well, I'm--I'm in no

position to get married to anyone.

>> Jack: I thought that this dinner was supposed to be about

bringing Abigail back into the family.

talk about. When we went to visit JJ

the last thing I wanted. >> Abigail: Yeah, 'cause you

hadn't cracked a book since the time we dropped you off

in September. >> Jennifer: And, Jack, you were

so excited because you wanted us to go to a play by Shakespeare.

>> Abigail: Yeah, but the only one that was playing

was "Romeo and Juliet." >> JJ: Yeah, and it wasn't in

the West End. It was--it was in Islington.

>> Abigail: Islington, yeah. >> Jennifer: Yes, and we took

the tube, remember? We took the tube.

>> Abigail: Oh, we were starving, and the only place

we could find to eat--remember? We found that, like, little pub.

>> JJ: It was a dive. >> Jennifer: Oh, it was

horrible. >> JJ: Total dive.

>> Jennifer: It was the greasiest fish and chips

in London, I'm sure of it. >> JJ: But you actually--

you actually thought it was-- it was all good, though.

>> Jennifer: [laughs] >> Abigail: Oh, you remember JJ

got--he was pretending that he was sick from the fish and chips

so that he could go and hang out with some girl at some party?

>> JJ: Some girl? No. >> Abigail: Oh, my God.

>> JJ: Jessica Freeman-Slade. >> Abigail: That's right.

>> JJ: I was so hot for Jessica Freeman-Slade.

>> Jennifer: You were not-- you were not hot for her.

But you did not let him off the hook, and we worked our way

to that dinky theater, didn't we?

>> Abigail: Mm-hmm. >> JJ: You know, it was

actually--it was pretty cool when we got inside.

It was-- The seats were in rows,

like you would--like you would expect, but all around

the stage. >> Abigail: No, wait,

they weren't, though. They were, like, scattered

kind of, right? And--and the actors were in

modern dress, and then remember the--the actors

were, like, mingling with the audience and stuff?

You remember the band? Oh, he loved that.

>> JJ: Of course. >> Jennifer: They were so good.

>> JJ: Drum set, bass guitar, keyboard, acoustic.

It was pretty cool. >> Abigail: Yeah.

It was all original music too. It was really amazing.

>> Jennifer: Mm-hmm. >> JJ: It was like a Detroit

techno but different. >> Abigail: Oh, you remember

Mercutio rapped the Queen Mab speech?

>> JJ: Yeah, yeah. >> Abigail: And you were, like--

>> JJ: Look, I've--I've never liked a play so much in my life.

>> Jennifer: And do you know what I liked most about it

is that I looked down the row at the three of you

just loving this production... and in that very moment,

I was so grateful for my family. >> Jack: Did they modernize

the language of the play? >> Abigail: No, um, they--

they kept it the same, uh, and it worked.

You actually-- you really liked it, Dad.

>> JJ: Like, uh... [clears throat] Like, Romeo

is talking to his buddy... >> Jack: Mm-hmm.

>> JJ: Um, um, at the beginning of the play, before he even

meets Juliet, and he's miserable because the

woman he likes says that she'd rather be celibate

than be with him. And his friend is, like, making

him feel worse, you know, feeling sorry for him,

and right here, like, I said to myself,

"Dude, I get it. That was me and

Jessica Freeman-Slade." >> Jennifer: Oh, my goodness,

not her again. But listen.

I kind of remember--I remember that speech still.

Isn't that crazy? >> Abigail: Really?

>> Jennifer: Yes. >> Abigail: Wow.

>> Chad: The only iron you have fired up right now is

Jack Deveraux. >> Eve: You don't know anything

told Jennifer you came back to Salem with revenge

>> Sarah: I gotta tell you, I think we make a mean

amatriciana sauce. Although I do think it needs

sauce in the pasta or them separately?

>> Sarah: I do it separately, but if that's not what you do--

>> Eric: No, no, no, let's do it your way.

We have to get your shirt off, because if we don't soak it,

what she did by throwing that thing--what happened with Rex

in your face, I thought that was--it was rotten.

>> Sarah: Yeah, well, I'm not exactly proud of

throwing the whole Lucas thing back at her.

I just think... I think she hit a nerve.

I was really sure that I was gonna spend the rest

of my life with your brother. I guess you don't really know.

>> Eric: You know what? For what it's worth,

any man that treats you the way he did is an idiot

or worse. >> Sarah: You should tell

Rex that sometime. >> Eric: Next time I see him,

>> Eric: Hey, you know, this pasta, it's really good.

He has broken a lot of women's hearts, and your life is

He told me he came close to taking his own life last year.

She works at the hospital, and I usually stop by

you should really take the time to ask him what he knows

about Eve and why he doesn't trust her.

position to give advice, but... maybe you should be careful

of a man who tried to buy your attention.

You're not in any position to give me advice.

I'm an adult, and Chad and I have been through a lot.

And I know we have our...stuff, and yes, he does throw his money

around like a DiMera sometimes, but he has a good heart.

For example, when we all thought you had died saving my life,

he got me the galleys to your book so that I could read

them before the rest of the world did.

And he did that because he understood how important

my father was to me then. And he understands how important

my father is to me now.

There's a reason we both remember that speech, I guess.

>> Jennifer: It was... hard sometimes, and there was

a lot of pain, Jack. But I really believe,

in spite of that, we built the most wonderful life

together.

trying to get rid of Eve Donovan tonight.

Here's to hoping that it... worked and that Abby had a

wonderful night with her family. [door opens]

I mean, I'm--I'm happy for you. I'm happy for Holly.
