The Immigration and Naturalization

Service, like the FBI and the Bureau of

Presence, is under the Department of

Justice. It controls the admissions, the

exclusions, and the deportations of all

aliens to and from the United States. It

is not wrong to wish to enter our

country, but it is wrong

to enter illegally or to

remain here unlawfully. That is the

spirit behind the Immigration Service.

In guarding the lonely stretches of

desolate mountain country adjacent to

Canada and the desert leading into

Mexico, 43 immigration officers have

lost their lives. To them, we dedicate

this picture as a tribute to the men and

officers of the Immigration and

Naturalization Service, headed by

Commissioner Watson B. Miller. One story

cannot possibly tell everything about

our service, but our greatest single

problem is illegal entry, including

attempted and sometimes actual smuggling

of aliens. I've been looking over briefs

from the case of particular interest.

From our files, it has

been pieced together for

you step by step. Case file number 191,

the Blue Danube Affair. On August 24th,

during routine mountain patrol near San

Gorgonio Pass in California San

Bernardino Range, Officer William Lacey

of the US Forest Rangers came upon

something that was

definitely not routine.

Tattooed markings on the dead man's back

told their own story, and the matter was

referred through proper channels to Dan

Collins, Chief of the

District Investigation

Section Immigration and Naturalization

Service Los Angeles. Another one Benson.

No doubt about it. Couldn't have happened

any other way.

Anything you want to add to

out there is waiting for

operating on a simple hunch with a

slim chance for success,

but nevertheless a chance.

the place? A girl, Anna,

O'Neill. Yeah. Formerly Anna Duvack. Now,

might tell us things if she

didn't know we were asking questions.

According to the record,

Anna married an American

flyer in Europe, Lieutenant Wallace

O'Neill. He brought her to

this country as a war bride

and she stayed with his folks. A couple

of months later, back

in the South Pacific on

active duty, he was killed. So she stayed

on and in due time

became a citizen. After that,

she held various jobs and wound up with

the Blue Danube. That's right. Frank, I'd

like to put a special man on this case.

Anybody you want, Dan,

what's his name? I haven't

the slightest idea. But maybe the army

has. Maybe they'll find

me someone who would have

a natural reason for dropping in on Anna

O'Neill. Say a man who was

in her husband's squadron

flow with him during the war. That

shouldn't be too difficult. And the

search wasn't difficult.

The adjutant general's office, the

immobilization personnel

record branch at St. Louis maintains

a complete identification section. And

there's a very complete

record on any man who has

been in the army. A record even long

enough to reach into
