I'm writing in exile

from a dark and distant planet
called Earth.

My story begins in Andromeda,

a galaxy where
we practiced meditation,

telepathic communication,

and the knowledge and management
of energy.

Andromeda was part
of the universe hierarchy,

a group of developed civilisations

made up of an infinity of galaxies,

whose purpose was the evolution
of the spirit.

Travelling anywhere in the hierarchy
was allowed,

but there was a prohibited area

made up of young
and unstable planets.

My companion and I set off
to discover other places

and develop our knowledge this way.

We were overcome
with a supernatural love

and decided that we had
become gods.

We're with Jacobo Grinberg,
psychophysiologist

and professor of psychology
at University of Mexico.

He has written more than 36 books.

Neurophysiologist at Mexico
University, Jacobo Grinberg

is a specialist in the
relationship of mind and matter.

He has studied the
paranormal capacities of yogis and

shamans, telepathic communication,

and children's extraocular vision.

He established the
theory of ''syntergy''.

Jacobo Grinberg was an
avid researcher,

and an enthusiast

of his theoretical construction,
and experiments

on psychic physiology,
and quantum physics.

When you see a light,

it's actually your consciousness
that's experiencing

the luminous quality.

The light doesn't exist
externally or internally,

it doesn't exist as
a physical phenomenon,

as such, as light.

What exists in space is
a series of

electromagnetic waves
and photonic changes.

Nor does it exist in cerebral
activity as light.

As light, in that perceptual quality,
it's consciousness.

I knew about the Jacobo
Grinberg case from

a note that appeared in the
Mexican newspaper Reforma.

My initial attraction was

the crime or supposed crime
of his disappearance.

I have always liked
sensationalist news.

I've been doing these articles
for years,

but these kinds of articles

only work if there's an interesting
story behind them.

We don't have anything,
we have no body,

we have no blood,

fingerprints, or any evidence
that a crime took place.

I think I was the last person
to see him alive.

Near the end of the year,
he asked me to arrange

the possibility for him to go

to a meditation retreat

with my teacher, Tsoknyi Rinpoche,
in the Kathmandu Valley, Nepal.

Correct, he went to India.

In fact, he told me:
''I'm going to India, to Nepal.''

I spoke to his wife by phone
on 12th December,

and I said:
''I called to say bye,

and congratulate you''
and so on.

''Your dad has already left'',
she said.

So, I didn't talk to him.

His birthday was 12th December.
There was a party

but he didn't come.
But Jacobo was like that.

He didn't show up all week,
not even Thursday

for his first seminar,
and he's never missed one ever.

It was strange,
but we said:

''Maybe his flight's delayed,
or he's still in India.''

He didn't contact any of us,

not phone the laboratory,
nothing.

Time passed by.

There were almost no signs
that Jacobo was still alive.

I spoke to his
brothers after 3 months

of not having heard from him.

I asked: ''What about Jacobo?
It's unusual.

Something's up.''

It's the first time

there's been no activity

on his credit cards
during his absence,

Estusha doesn't know where he is.

This alarmed me.

And then we realized...

We were put in contact

with the government and
the Attorney General,

and a special team
was put together to find Jacobo.

I work for the LA Times,

the largest newspaper
in Western United States.

I know from my career as a journalist,

that the first 3-4 days after

a disappearance are key.

After, it's very
difficult to find the person,

especially if they're dead.

They would have had clues
if we'd got there earlier.

A really good team

led by Padilla,
the Chief Superintendent,

took charge
of a legal investigation,

to find out what happened.

How did you find out about the case?

It was assigned directly
by the Attorney General,

Jose Antonio Fernández
González.

He asked for the best.

The Attorney General
told me he was going to give me

a very special case. There had
to be a thorough investigation

to look for death, a murder,
or kidnapping.

It needed
special attention.

We needed something solid
to go on.

We started with house inquiries.

We had authorised access,
and permission to break in.

We found his things
as they would normally be,

as if he hadn't left,

as if the doctor
wasn't going anywhere.

It's since May '95

that we've had the case,

that we started
a thorough investigation,

because it was presumed

a homicide

committed by his wife.

María Teresa,

who was on the run.

The last time I saw Jacobo
I interviewed him

on radio Centro.

When we saw each other
he told me:

''I can't bear Teresa anymore.

I'm on very bad terms with her.''

And then, I never heard
from him again.

Jacobo...

told me:

''I'm afraid of my wife, Tere.

I don't sleep at home.''

He had a van, or something like that.

''I don't want to see her,
she scares me.''

He used to sleep in the van,

and he also had other places to go
that were fully equipped,

where he could sleep,
instead of at the house

with María Teresa.

Tere's bouts of anger
totally consumed her.

Her emotion took over

and she became very violent.

He said he feared
for his life.

He told me:
''I'm counting on you

if anything happens to me.''

That is almost the last thing
I remember about Jacobo.

I received a phone call
on 13th December

from his wife Teresa,

saying he wasn't
returning to the laboratory

and they were going on holiday.

They had planned to go to Campeche
at the end of the year,

and then go to India.

The police searched

airline company documents,

and it seemed like they hadn't left.

So, he disappeared.

The ticket was unused, he didn't get
to Nepal and wasn't seen there.

He didn't arrive.

There are no documents
of his exit from Mexico,

this was investigated.

No emigration document
for his departure,

and no arrival
document in Nepal.

We went to Israel for a year
and really got to know each other,

and became a couple.

We were in a kibbutz

next to Gaza.

These are the towers where they
watched over the kibbutz.

Curious, he was always very curious

from the start.

I think that was what
I liked most about Jacobo.

The interests that Jacobo
had throughout his work

and developed

actually began on that journey
to Israel

in a meeting he had

with a spiritualist!

In the kibbutz, there was a man
who used a ouija board.

It was his first encounter with the
mysterious and esoteric world.

Things happened to Jacobo,
a spirit told him

that his watch would stop
at a certain time, and it did.

I think this was the first time
his curiosity was sparked:

realising another
reality exists, wondering

how to understand it,
and how to study it.

I feel like a channel of God.

A channel of light.

I don't think I do it.
I am the medium.

I met Jacobo because

of our communication system

and the channels we all have.

It's true that some people manage
to keep them open,

and see people
without using their eyes.

I think it was in the 70s

when Jacobo started
training children

in extra-ocular vision

through touch.

For example,
if we take this book,

he could say what was on the back.

I saw that with my own eyes.

Skin vision. I mean, the gifts and
channels that keep these children open

are much more open than in adults.

But the children
started to see nasty things.

Nasty things.

And this scared them.
The children gave up

because it connected
them with other realities,

with other dimensions.

he told me that

as a child he wanted her to die,

because he couldn't just be.

His infancy was cut short,

he didn't enjoy his childhood.

He lived stuck to my mother
while she was on her way out.

She was really beautiful,

but she died at the very
young age of 35,

and he was 13.

led him to his death

because he didn't know
who she really was.

He was seen at
the start of December,

and then never again.

But his wife was seen;
they saw Teresa

8 days later getting
stuff from home.

Later, she was spotted
cashing a cheque.

Teresa was seen at
their home,

picking up some things.

When Jacobo disappeared,

he vanished.

We know nothing of him
since the 8th December.

But Tere appeared

on the 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th, 14th,

and the 20th.
After a month she was still around,

calm, in good spirits.

Chief Superintendent Padilla

bugged Teresa's phone;

it's forbidden,
but he did anyway.

We notified the Government Prosecutor
for instructions

to arrest someone

linked to María Teresa's calls.

He was a school caretaker.

He looked paramilitary,
had paramilitary training,

karate training,
wore military boots.

It's unusual, unlikely,

to find this in a school caretaker.

They caught a guy who
was Teresa's assistant.

He was weird,
it was like he was

ill due to the odd way he walked.

He did all Teresa's jobs.
Who knows

if they were
clean or dirty jobs.

I remember the arrest.

We asked him about
Teresa and Dr. Grinberg.

He denied everything until
the end of the investigation in '96.

He was the main suspect.

Teresa probably killed Jacobo,
she had to be found.

Teresa disappeared.

If there was no connection
she'd also be looking for him.

I don't know why she disappeared,
never to appear again.

The housekeeper said

that María Teresa was
accompanied by a blonde woman,

took the dining furniture and
her personal effects,

and left the house with their dog.

She had a blonde friend
who was a witch.

It's significant that she was
always with a blonde woman.

Her mother always denied

seeing Teresa.

There is evidence
of phone calls between

Teresa and her mother
after Jacobo disappeared.

Between 15th October and
1st December,

there are 11 calls
with a total of 65 minutes,

despite her claims
she hasn't heard

from her daughter since 1982.

She was obviously lying.

She was probably
withholding something too.

There were sightings of her

in the north
of the republic,

and in places
where she had relatives.

This is in the police report.

The last time Teresa's mother

was in contact with her

was the 10th May '95.

The conversation lasted
10 minutes

from Baja California,
to her mother's house.

I sent officers to the address.

They flew to Tijuana,
journeyed to Rosarito,

but Teresa Mendoza was gone.

Why isn't she there?
Who warned her?

He disappeared,
his wife is a fugitive,

and her mother is lying.

We know many things,

but we couldn't
act legally,

the law protects them.

That's the law and besides,

there's no body.

I asked the detective

what he thought,
even off the record:

Was there was a plan?

''This was planned'', he said,

but why and by whom,
he didn't know.

It's significant that he
believed it a plan.

- Yes.
- Not a crime of passion.

Well, here's the important information

that makes me think,
or at least from what Padilla said

makes me think it wasn't
a crime of passion:

When they searched
one of Jacobo's houses,

they discovered the CPUs
and mainframes were missing.

We saw that the mainframe
of the computer was missing,

there wasn't a single
floppy or compact disc

or CD Rom.

The books and theses
he was working on were gone

from all the houses

we searched.

If it was theft, that means
someone was especially interested

in Jacobo's line of investigation.

We interact with
an informational matrix,

with an informational field,

that contains all the information
in each one of its sections.

It's a kind of holographic
informational matrix.

The brain interacts with this field

and the end result
of this cerebral processing

is the perceptual reality
that appears

as we know it:

Objects with their colours,
shapes and textures.

Jacobo went to New York
to do a PhD,

and this is when he began earnestly

to look for answers.

I don't mean non-scientific,

but para-scientific
or meta-scientific.

Jacobo and I separated.

He decided to go to New York.

It was a huge change.
He separated from his wife,

and with the separation,

and also the influence
of counter-culture,

he changed.

He grew a beard and didn't study
what he used to study.

He changed the focus of his studies
to consciousness,

and whether there was something
that united all human beings.

Everyone in New York
knew about Roy John.

He was very interesting,
doing really advanced stuff.

He also met the creator
of holography.

Then he found a
group of friends

who were also scientists,

and were experimenting

with similar things,
like LSD trips.

In some way,

those trips affected him,

the way he perceived things.

He accepted things he came across,

and always wanted to
add them to his body of research.

Jacobo took off
after meeting Roy John.

When he got to New York
to start his PhD.

He told me:

''Sometimes I go cycling
in New York,

I close my eyes,

cross a road full of traffic
on my bike,

and if I don't
get knocked down or die,

I know I'm not meant to die

and I'm here for a reason.''

He did these experiments,
and I said:

''Jacobo, don't!
You're going to die like that,

and we need you.''

I would say: ''You're going
to win a Nobel Prize.

I'm sure you're going to win a Nobel.''

Do you accept the possibility
of these events?

He said: ''I don't
I accept the possibility,

I said they are real.''

I didn't believe this until
my hands were soaked

in Pachita's blood.

who has experienced
hours and hours too...

who Pachita is?

Pachita is a Mexican healer

who opened bodies,
skulls, with a knife,

and pulled stuff out.

I'm a scientist,

I have a laboratory,
I study cerebral activity,

cerebral physiology.

I was invited
to meet Pachita,

and her operations.
And what I saw there

initially contradicted

my whole concept

and knowledge I had
about reality.

The sister of López Portillo,
the President of Mexico,

met him at the university,
and she says:

''Jacobo, I'm going to
help with your research

more than you think.

Come to the National Palace

and I'll introduce you
to someone who

will help you a lot.''

Margarita was a totally
mystic person.

They all lived in the
presidential building Los Pinos.

The guards let them through,

he was to be welcomed by
the president's sister,

Margarita López Portillo.

They were in a garden full of cages
with birds of Mexico,

when suddenly all the birds
started singing

in unison.

They see a short woman with
native features

walking towards them.

It was Pachita.

Jacobo was impressed

by all that Pachita
says she does.

To meet her in Los Pinos
was even more impressive,

what was a woman like her doing
in Los Pinos?

Pachita invited him to
see her operations,

magical and impressive,

and Jacobo goes straight away.

What I really remember
is that he used to come back

at midnight with his lab coats

all bloodstained.

''I am Dr. Jacobo Grinberg,

I'm studying Pachita,
and I found out

you were her last assistant,
I'd like to speak to you.''

''Yes, sure.''

He was very
interested in my experience.

She removed and replaced vertebrae.

She operated on things that were
inoperable.

She could open your skull,

spine, or remove a vertebra,
replace it,

and you left walking.

I assisted so many
operation sessions over 2 years,

holding a cotton pad
in my hands or alcohol.

The more I observed
and looked, and looked again,

the woman had ability.

She used a hunting knife
to make a cut

that she could have done
with her hand,

but used it for people
to see she used a tool.

She said she was a medium,

and that she really had
special spiritual abilities,

and believed she was
the last Aztec king.

The spirit of the last
Aztec king was inside her.

What I learnt was that
I can't say what

the limit of human capacity is.

Since that experience
I wouldn't dare say

that human beings can't do this,

or the brain has such a limit
to its potentiality,

but rather it seems that we are
in a continuous infinity,

and we don't know
where it ends.

It was significant
for Jacobo

when he broke with scientific canons

because he said: ''If the canons
are unable to explain this,

then what use are they?
I have to explain it in a way

by my science.''

Science isn't defined by subject,

it's defined by method.

You can research what
you want, good or bad.

You investigate well
that's science,

you investigate badly,
you're a charlatan.

He pushed boundaries,
and of course

it caused him
many problems.

Colleagues asked what was
a scientist doing in this research?

A psychophysiologist?
But he dared.

He always went back to the laboratory.

The scientists saw him
as a shaman.

The shamans saw
a scientist.

He was between two worlds.

The laws of consciousness

was very famous in Mexico.

His photo was shown
and people began to talk,

as expected, as people
always think they

have information. There was one
who was more credible

or at least the Chief
Superintendent thought so.

Padilla went to see a janitor
who cleaned in Boulder, Colorado.

He was Mexican
and worked in a laboratory,

apparently a secret laboratory.

This guy said he saw
Jacobo in this place,

Boulder, in Colorado.

Jacobo never would
have left Estusha.

And that was when
that witness pointed out

that Jacobo and María Teresa

were accompanied by the blonde,

and two FBI agents
escorting Grinberg

in Boulder, Colorado.

It was a private jet from which
several agents got out of,

and someone who was
my cousin according to him.

Cousin Jacobo.

And they took him by car,
according to him.

According to the circumstances
and the way

in which it occurred,

this wasn't a voluntary disappearance.

This is why it's serious.

We're saying that there were forces

that planned this disappearance
very well indeed.

It likely points to blackmail,
coercion, or extortion to extract

the secrets of his experiments
for a specific objective.

There are several combinations,
and there is a mixture

of probable factors
pointing to kidnapping.

if consciousness is not local
and you want to exploit the idea

and influence this consciousness...

influencing the
collective consciousness.

dedicated to shamans,

with your investigations?

I'm still in the laboratory,

Jacobo had the opportunity

of knowledge,

that Castaneda himself
was surprised, and applauded.

''Bravo, bravo Jacobo!''
But he understood that.

Castaneda's knowledge was something
that could decipher

the mystery of life, of
human beings, of the world.

He knew that to go further
he had to transform himself.

He knew he had to get away from
the world, and all its temptations.

It was a book of our youth.

Carlos Castaneda was a turning point
because he put you in another reality.

You read the first book, the second,
the third,

he become famous and he used his fame
for many things.

Jacobo loathed this.

Jacobo knew he couldn't detach from
his success, his achievements

nor his daughter, eh!

Castaneda made him see he was

overly dependent on his daughter,
let's say.

There was a woman in this group
who had a son.

She was a single mother,
and Castaneda told her

to leave her son.

To be part of the group,
she had to leave him.

So, my dad began
to realise this,

and he was totally against
Castaneda.

He knew he had to detach
from everything to carry out

a serious process of spiritual
development, to drop everything

and be unknown.

''I felt watched after I decided to
break contact

with Castaneda.

I can't tell you everything
by phone,

but I am a little scared.''

He was a man who
was very interested in power,

in control, and obsessed
with having control over others.

Castaneda told Jacobo that
he was very interested in his mind.

I don't know what that expression
might mean.

Why was he interested in his mind?

Castaneda recognised
that Jacobo had a very powerful mind.

It seems there were conflicts
between Castaneda and Grinberg.

Grinberg confided to colleagues that

he only wanted power,
and he was insane.

Jacobo lacked understanding of the.

Castaneda phenomenon

as there were elements
difficult to understand,

contradictions.

Castaneda's goal is to reach
complete consciousness.

Where one perceives
all of reality and other

worlds of reality,
something Jacobo learnt later.

There are many worlds in reality.

The freedom comes
from your own knowledge.

The more you know,
the freer you are,

and the more you know, the more
you can exercise that freedom,

you're less subjected to pressure,
or to...

aspects that prevent
you being free.

Freedom comes from
self-knowledge.

The more knowledge,
the more freedom.

If you read Castaneda and Grinberg,
you realise that

you are faced with a sorcerer,
Castaneda, whereas.

Grinberg is openly seeking things
that he is looking for.

The question is:
Why would Castaneda want.

Grinberg to disappear?

This gave a mysterious nature
to the investigation.

Combined with all the investigations
he did into shamans,

Pachita and the magic operations,
everything turned...

This whole investigation
became a veil of secrecy

over Jacobo's death.

Jacobo said he had beings that helped
him, and as he talked to them

they came close to him...
and they helped him a lot.

But in the end, he wasn't very keen
to keep in contact with them.

And ''they'' disintegrated him here.

He's in another place.

He can't leave.

They have him trapped.

''He's chained'', they said.

''Don't look for him.''

That's the information I have.

When someone dies, on the
anniversary of their death,

there's a prayer called ''Kaddish''.

We asked rabbis:

''What about a missing
person?'' And they answer:

''He's not dead.''
They always answer the same.

He's at an age that
he could still come back.

Maybe in 20 years, who knows?
Now Jacobo would be my age.

Once I saw Don Lucio,
he was very old by then.

He told me: ''No, your dad is...''
He didn't say he was dead.

''He's fine, they're... he's fine,
they're treating him well.''

Odd because he told me: ''He's
no longer in this world...

He is... but he's fine.''

Estusha is named after her grandmother

and...

Estusha...

had a brain tumor.

I really needed Jacobo's energy
at the time. And I said to him.
