It's been
embarrassing enough

for Wells Fargo
to have had $50,000

in gold stolen right out

from under its nose,

but what made the company's
face even more red

was that it didn't have
the slightest idea

where or when the theft
had taken place.

But the box just couldn't
have been stolen here

in Rock River, Mr. Hardie.

Why not? Because I took it off

the stage myself
the minute it came in.

Did you open it?

Did better than that.

I checked every bag

and there was gold
in all of them.

I put the bag back into
the box and locked it,

and put the box in the safe
and locked it.

And that safe wasn't touched
until I opened it,

took the box out,

and put it back on the stage

just before it pulled out
the next morning.

Did you look in the box then?

What's the point?
The gold couldn't get out

of a locked box in a locked safe

and I'm the only one
who knows the combination.

Yet when it got to Denver,
there was nothing there

but a lot of worthless dust

and Red Burns swears

he didn't take
his eyes off of that box

from the time it left here

till it arrived in Denver.

I just can't understand it,
Mr. Hardie.

trouble over at my place.

A couple of saddle tramps
got themselves a snoot-full

and now they're trying
to take over.

about a week ago
that the Hollister Bank

was in bad shape.

it was true or not,

but some of the bank's costumers

began to get edgy

and started to withdraw
their money.

For a while there,
it looked like

there might be
a run on the bank.

And what happened?

Well, Meg Hollister
put a stop to it.

Who's Meg Hollister?

Oh, she runs the bank
since her husband died

about a year or two ago.

And how did she stop
the run on the bank?

Well, she announced
that she was gonna pay

a hundred cents on a dollar

to anybody
who wanted their money.

That sort of quieted
everybody down.

When did she make that
announcement?

SAM: Last Thursday.

It was the day after
the money was supposed

to have left town,

but it didn't.

Maybe I'd better go have a talk

with this lady banker.
