having a lot of problems

drinking this water.

And right now, he
is not looking good.

be able to hydrate,

that's super, super dangerous.

This is an issue.

[Ryan] I drank some
pretty nasty water

and there's just something in
this basin, doesn't sit well with me.

I don't know what it is.

It's like really burning.

It's like the most acidic
throw up I've ever had.

Now, I feel a little better.

- Yeah. Everybody feels better when they throw up.
- [Matt laughs]

[Matt] That's good, I guess.

I mean, I felt it,
so I just chugged.

[Matt] Yeah.

It was like in there, I just
didn't want to get it out,

- so, I just like...
- [Matt] Yeah.

Four full gulps...

And I was like... instant.

- [Matt] Oh man, that's... Yeah, that was...
- [Rylie] Rough.

- [Matt] Just seconds after you took some drinks.
- [Rylie] Sorry, dude.

[Rylie] We're not even a
week into the challenge.

Both of my partners
are having problems.

Matt has got like a
roundworm parasite,

feasting on his
twig and berries.

It's called nutria itch.

It's from the feces of the nutria
that live in the swamps here.

[Rylie] Right now,
we're not in good shape.

Just wish drinking water
wasn't such a [bleep] chore.

[Rylie] Yeah!

[Matt] Well, hell. At least
you don't have to worry about

a microscopic round worm
burrowing into the scrotum.

[Ryan] Yeah! Yup. For sure.

[Matt] I'm still
itching some more,

but it's getting better.

I'm on the road to recovery
from this nutria itch, I believe.

It now seems as though
I just have scabbing

over my nether region.

[Ryan] Big Grey squirrel.

It's coming. It's coming.

The tree that the
bow is hanging on,

he's coming down it.

[Bleep]

That jump is even closer.

[Matt] Got it!

- [Ryan] Yay!
- [Rylie screams excitedly]

- [Rylie] Oh my God!

[Matt] This squirrel
is a small meal, but...

You know right now, this is the
moment we need, this is the food we need,

and this is a huge
morale boost for our camp.

Dinner time.

- This is like a big Mac, right here.
- Yeah.

[Rylie] I love that.

- Let's call him big Mac.
- Blessed. We got big Mac for dinner,

[Ryan] And Matt's beginning to
process the squirrel over here.

We're going to be using
one of the arrow tips to skin it.

A little more fine
work, fine detail.

So, we're not skinning this
small creature with a machete.

- Look at that.
- [Ryan] Oh man, that looks enormous.

[Matt] Cooked to perfection.

Now, we're talking.

First squirrel I've
ever had in my life.

- What? Yeah, buddy!
- [Matt laughs]

[Matt] Big old chicken
wing, right here.

The Grey squirrel was
a huge morale booster.

I ate as much as I
could of the squirrel meat,

but my mouth was so dry

and I knew if I took
a sip of that water,

that everything I ate was
going to come back up.

Oh, my God. No seasoning.
Nothing. It's beautiful.

[Matt] Oh, that's fantastic.

A Louisiana delicacy is to eat
the squirrel and suck at its brain.

It is good.

It tastes like dessert.

[Rylie] What?

It's creamy.

The squirrel is delicious

and Ryan is just perked
up like a little flower.

Like, he is just moving
around, happy, no nausea.

I just... I'm so relived.

You know, fingers crossed,
things are looking up.

[Ryan] Squirrel brain...

Is little, but it's for dinner.

[Narrator] As Matt, Rylie and
Ryan start to rebound in the north,

their fellow legends to the south
are on the hunt for a bigger prize.

[Max] If I was a gator, I would
eat this in a damn heartbeat.

[Amber] Oh, that's
going to be perfect...

[Max] Amber caught
a catfish yesterday.

So, I'm heading
to my gator hook,

I'm about to bait it.

Going to throw the
catfish head on there

and we are just praying and hoping
that we can get a gator on there.

[Amber] Gator be on the

[Max] Come on, gator.

[Amber] Will it to happen.

- [Max] Come on, gator.
- [Amber] It's going to come.

I think that with Max, he
feels that he is not the provider

and he can't stand that.

He needs to be the warrior that goes
out there and gets food that we need.

These men and their egos,

I have been dealing with
it my whole life in the army.

It's not about who can
do the best or what.

It's about really just
working together.

[Max] It's still hanging.

I'm going to rehook this.

[Gary] Me, Max and Amber, we
got a little bit of a roof over our head.

We need to get more.

And here we go.

Right now, we just
have one lean-tube.

But my plan is to add
another to make it a-frame,

so we can insulate ourselves
from the rain and cold.

Because winter will be
here before we know it.

Doing these challenges

has really expanded and exploded
my shelter building techniques.

You know? So, just
work on the shelter.

It's what needs to
be done right now.

This is survival.

This isn't camping.

If it does snatch it,

EJ, Sarah and Suzanne

finally have their
shelter completed.

And can now turn
their attention to protein.

[Suzanne] This
morning I'm braiding

three strands of our
fishing line together.

And then I'll add
couple of hooks

to make a little bit of
a treble hook and then

use the fishermen's
knot to put it on to the line.

And hopefully have us
some gator dinner tonight.

I want to contribute

and put my
survival skills to use.

But I'm with EJ.

You know, I have
to really perform.

I have to outperform what I have
ever done before here in the swamps.

That's a lot of pressure.

[EJ] My team, yeah, we are
getting our dynamic together.

Suzanne, she has
a lot of great ideas.

She is a big planner,

but she is a talker

and she is opinionated

and she thinks out loud.

Sarah is a bit more
quieter than she is,

and I'm a man of
action most of the time

and speak when
it needs to be said.

Here's another pile.

We are both willing to just

kind of figure out how we
are going to operate together.

A lot of this stuff will
just work itself out.

And that's awesome looking.

[Suzanne] Here. About ten feet
of line and there's a treble hook.

[EJ] Yeah, that's a great job.

That is impressive.

Let's get a gator.

[Suzanne] Let's do it!

[EJ] Now that the sun's
kinda breaking out, periodically,

the water moccasins are gonna
be out, looking to get warm.

Eyes peeled.

[Sarah] So, where are
we going to string it?

We got to find an
overhang somewhere.

[EJ] I mean, I could
dangle it off of this one.

There's one right there.

[Sarah] Where?

Oh, I see him.

[EJ] You know what I'm gonna
do is to set that gator-hook

with some of the old
dead water moccasin

that was in the belly of
the other one, for bait.

[Sarah] The digested one?

[EJ] Yeah.

What I'm going to do...

Is screw them up.

[Sarah] Oh, I see, you're
dangling it from there

and then you're gonna
tie it to tree... okay.

Yes. Good job.

- Let's get a gator.

Gator for the team.

[Narrator] Ten miles to the east

Jeff, Steven and Lacey are
still trying to find their footing

at their second camp location.

When winter comes,
the breeze will be a killer.

Yeah, so the more [Bleep] we
can all stack on that back end

and prevent any kind of
breeze coming through...

- [Steven] It really helps.
- [Jeff] Yup.

I am sick today.

I spent all night
throwing up and puking.

Come on, Louisiana.
Is that all you've got?

[Jeff] My teammates, they're
being great teammates.

We are all pitching in together.

We are banding together
and we are making it happen,

because we've got to get
our shelter put together.

[Steven] I'll go get
the palms cause...

- and I'll get some more willows.

'Cause what we don't use for
thatching, we can use it to lay on.

You know, everybody
gives Lacey a bad rep,

but her attitude
towards this challenge

is different than any other attitude
she's had coming into a challenge.

She wants to cross
that finish line on this one

and I want to help her do it.

[Jeff] Oh, cool. Thank you.

I mean, we are literally
knocking out tasks,

left and right.

So I'm feeling good about that.

But there is something
definitely not going good...

...down below the waist.

Hey Steven, is your
nutsack burning?

Is this a start of a joke?

[Jeff] Because my
nutsack feels like it's on fire

and has been, the last 12 hours.

about to crinkle and fall off?

[Steven] No, my nutsack
has never felt like that.

[Lacey] I bet you, it's like
a fungus or something.

- [Steven] Yeah.

[Narrator] A medic is
brought in to treat Jeff

for the same parasitic
infection that afflicted Matt.

[Medic] On area, I
have heard of nutria itch

from the water.

[Jeff] Nutria itch?

'Cause they go into water and they
leave some sort of tick or bacteria.

Like that is a local
thing I've heard about.

I caught a glimpse,
and it's terrifying really.

It's "Ripley's believe it
or not" worthy, for sure.

[Medic] You can, maybe stay
out of the water for at least a while.

- Yeah, I'll do my best.
- [Medic] Yeah.

[Lacey] That puts
him out of the game.

Well, he can't go
in the water now.

Like, he has to stay, you know,
as dry as possible in Louisiana.

Any kind of ball sack itch
named after a nasty rodent...

- [Steven] Yeah.
- That's not good.

This stuff sucks!

But I don't know
what tap outs are like.

I have never experienced
one and I don't plan to.

[Steven] Yeah, so I'll go over
there and check the gator traps.

[Lacey] That's a good idea.

You check and whistle back,

'cause I'd rather you didn't get
in the water, unless you had to.

- [Steven] Yeah.
- [Lacey] Let's hear a whistle though.

[Whistles]

[Lacey] I'm really
glad I plugged my ears.

[Jeff] I think we'll hear that.

- [Jeff] All right, so that means, gator's on.
- Yeah.

[Jeff] Gator is on. Come quick.

[Steven] Yeah, if I whistle like
that, that means it's gator time.

Steven, he knows that
my balls are in jeopardy

and I can't get them wet.

So he is the one taking the
trek across the river today.

[Steven] For me to
check our gator hooks,

I have to cross the tributary

and it really wasn't
bothering me.

But knowing that there is this
parasite that can infect my manhood...

That's a wakeup call.

That's the most terrifying thing I
have found out in the swamp yet.

- [Lacey] Don't die out there.
- [Steven] Okay.

But what it comes down
to is, it's going to be winter.

We're out here for 60 days

and we need an alligator.

[Lacey] I am worried, I'm just standing
here waiting for him to give me the signal

whether there's
a gator on the line.

He's been over there
for a really long time.

I am getting worried.

Looks like we got a gator.

The line's pretty taut.

It definitely pulled some slack.

It could be just stuck on a log,

but we're going to find
out here in a minute.

Holy [bleep]!

This is [bleep] sliding.

[Lacey] I don't know.

I'm going to wait a
couple more minutes.

I think it might be
time to go after him.

Go look for him.

[Loud thrashing]

Yeah, that will make you pucker up
when your balls deep in the swamp.

I grew up in the swamp.

I live in Florida. I've lived
there for over 25 years.

So I know, hooking an
alligator isn't like hooking a fish.

Their entire skull
is made of bone

and you can't just set a hook.

You have to let them swallow it

and you got to let
that hook sit in their gut

and once it in their gut

then you can bring
them into shore.

But it was playing with our bait

and never decided to quiet
swallow them all the way.

So that was a
meal that got away.

We're going to get one.

It's day three.

It's day three that
we've had one on.

Steven?

- I think he is...
- [Steven whistles]

One whistle means no gator.

Major, major, major bummer.

But he whistled,
so I know he's alive.

At that point, I was just
like, any noise will do.

A gator would have been...

Gator would have awesome.

You know, getting us
through the cold nights.

It is getting cold

and rainy.

- [Max] All right.
- [Gary] Who's hungry?

- [Max] Get some protein.
- [Gary] Yes!

[Amber] You should've
saw his reaction.

It was even better.

He was like, "snake!"

And he went towards it.

[Max] I was like "dinner."

[Max] Add that
notch on the belt.

I killed a freaking
water moccasin.

[Amber] Very cool!

Max caught a snake today

and it was great.

Like you know what,

I would have handled the
situation a little bit differently.

But I'm grateful to
have food tonight.

You have to eat
everyday actively.

So that way, you can
survive 60 days in the swamp.

If not, you're not
going to make it.

[Max] Mmm. Tasty.

[Amber] That back
meat's so good.

[Gary] Yeah.

[Amber] I can feel this
protein give us energy.

[Gary] Oh, yeah.

- [Amber] It's like snake.

[Ryan] Morning of day six.

Yeah, we heard some heavy
thunder, lightning this morning.

But I think it's a storm
that is just missed us.

So that's good.

We're going to go
check the gator line.

See if there's
anything on the hook.

[Rylie] Any action?

It is not... It is

[Ryan] It's not in the tree.

[Rylie] Let's find out.

[Amber] I can see the stick.

take a little persistence.

when our bait is not big enough...

think it's right,

doesn't want to swallow it.

waiting for us to leave so
he can come and investigate.

so he might dang well think
that we are hand feeding him.

to check the gator line

because we are all
out here for 60 days

and we need to get after food.

[Suzanne] I just feel like we're
gonna see a moccasin or two.

[Suzanne] My legs about
two feet shorter than your legs.

[EJ] Just trying to
stay a little bit ahead,

just in case there is a snake.

- [Suzanne] I hate this area. I hate this.

I wasn't shushing

about kind of being quiet.

And we're getting to the
area where we laid the bait.

So that means it's quiet time.

May be a gator up here.

Nah. A snake is still hanging.

[Suzanne] Darn! [Bleep]

Dang it. I was so hopeful.

Wow. Look at that
gator right there.

[Suzanne] I see him.

[EJ] Sometimes, when you
splash they'll be very curious,

'cause they think it's a
wounded animal or a free meal.

And this guy is
very curious on us.

[Suzanne] He is coming this way.

[Suzanne] Have some lunch,
so we can have some lunch.

[Suzanne] Swing the bait. May
be he will think it's a chicken.

[EJ] Got to be quiet.

- [Suzanne] EJ is your blade bothering you or you are good?

I'm in fighting mode.

he naturally knows this stuff

and it's his
environment, he loves it.

So he is naturally
excited to say everything.

Then that doesn't give either
Sarah or I a chance to say anything,

point anything out
or make suggestions.

And I don't want to
feel like a side kick.

- [EJ] Crap.
- [Suzanne] Our lunch just swam away.

[EJ] Dammit!

[Sarah] It's not the right bait.

It's out there eating the fish.

[EJ] I know what
it takes to hunt.

I'm very successful at it.

And if we're going
to get to 60 days,

I don't know how I'm going to
continue to... Try to be patient

and it gets to a point
where it might break

and I got to say something.

[Ryan] First shot, that was
bigger... the biggest school.

I think they're
already figuring us out.

[Matt] I need the fish
to stay on the arrow.

But I can't tie a
line to the arrow

and to my body.

If the string gets stuck, then
razor sharp arrow will fly back

and it's a bad combination.

So, I had to problem solve.

You know, what I
could do for that?

It's going to be kind
of weird in a way,

but I could take an
arrow, unthread that hair.

So if you tie a toggle, like
wrap it around a little bit,

when it sticks through a fish,

it will stop on a toggle

and the arrow will
stay in that fish,

help us locate it

and also help that
fish not get anywhere.

That toggle is to let the
fish get skewed by the arrow

but it stops it at the
end of a the toggle.

Keeping the fish
centered on the arrow

is key to getting that fish.

Get a nice, flexible twig

and I'm just going to give
it about 10-inches of line.

Should be sufficient.

And this is going to stop the arrow
from flying all the way through the fish.

Hopefully keeping
the fish on the line,

long enough for us to jump in,

grab the line,

grab the fish.

I just have to hit him solid
enough that it's going to stop.

What this is going to do is

keep this arrow from
zipping all the way through it,

while these guys
are coming over him.

Coming to party.

[Ryan] Yeah, you
can see all their backs.

[Matt] Get one of these mouths to
just look like I could see real good.

[Ryan] Just disappeared.

[Matt] Just enough glare...

[Ryan] I know.

[Matt] It's not the closest
shot to hit a hotdog size target.

No. It would be a
[bleep] trick shot for sure.

[Matt] Okay, we got a shot here.

The light changed little bit.

He just like shoots
into the water

and nails this tiny ass fish,

which is just bananas.

It's the opposite of
shooting fish in a barrel.

Like, there is no reason
that should have worked.

- [Matt] It worked like a champ.

Oh, my word. You see
that? See it struggling there?

[Rylie] Genius. Good job.

[Ryan] Have you done
that toggle idea before?

I've never done it. Just thought
about it right here, right now.

[Rylie] Awesome.

[Matt] It's a Louisiana swamp.

[Matt] It's an
absolute victory for us

because it shows that we have
advanced in our techniques,

coming up with
new ideas in a world.

Trying to keep this arrow
from flying through the fish...

Big win today.

And I couldn't be happier.

Now we got to decide

do we eat a little meat

and then save the
gut and the skeleton

for the gator bait.

This is a small meal.

But if we turn this small
meal into gator bait,

then we're gonna get a gator.

- [Rylie] Feed a gaiter.
- Yeah.

[Ryan] I think it's a good idea
to use the whole thing as bait.

[Matt] Heck yeah. Thank
you little buddy. Appreciate it.

[Rylie] Go big or go hungry.

[Ryan] That's one of the
wildest things I have ever seen.

[EJ] Once it gets cold,
everything stops moving.

Food is going to be more scarce.

work double hard for it.

far as that gator line,

I think we should just
wait till the morning.

You know, may be there's some
little special relationship they have.

I am well aware of the fact

And I think it's biggest part is
because I am out here with EJ.

but it's not a quick journey
to get to these palm trees.

this challenge just from the cold alone.

you're hungry and cold and tired,

to focus on anything other
than how miserable you are.

I haven't slept a lot.

It's just easier to be up tending
the fire than it is to get any sleep.

right through our entrance way.

So we need to definitely hunker
down a better shelter tomorrow.

We'll just be filling
in the end wall,

put some more material
above me on the roof.

And then we are going to need
a mortar around all of the cracks

in order to prevent
that wind for coming in

and making it just bomb proof.

up this wall right here

with the help of Amber.

that small amounts of food

for a greater number of days

is way more reliable than

one huge big kill that

ever actually come.

This is a swamp. There
are fish everywhere.

Maybe not huge,
big, whoo-hoo fish.

But little ones.

It might not be glorious,

but, it's food and
that's what we need.

So, we're going to
hang fishing lines.

or anything to weight it down.

We need to set something new because we've
been seeing gators stalking us at camp.

There's aquatic weeds and

very visual animals.

They also rely on
their sense of smell.

But they need to be able to see.

These aquatic weeds hinder
the ability to see the bait.

So if we can get that bait
to drop into the open water,

then we're going to
have better success.

Well Ryan and I
found this branch.

We're going to set up the
piece of bamboo we found

and dangle the bait where I
think it's absolutely perfect.

It's a deep water ledge.

Alligator is going to come
up from the deep. See it.

Grab it, pull it
down, take it down,

swallow it and then go time.

Thinking if we do this.

We get entondo-matic,

and we tie it like this.

It's getting... It'd be
dark in an hour or so.

If we keep an eye on it
from camp, we could always...

have to use all their core strength

they roll just like they
would rip something apart.
