deep into leopard country.

I don't really want
to share a boma.

I'm extremely stubborn.

one-handed, or die trying.

is hot on their trail...

after surviving
alone for 24 days.

Because I'm not stopping
until I find my family.

Lacey: I am struggling.

I'm trying to build up
my boma with one hand,

and there's leopard
activity in the area,

and they're superpredators.

But I'm not, under
any circumstances,

going back to that situation.

Gary: Does anybody want
to go with me to go get meat

from that dead
nyala that I found?

I'm gonna walk back
and get backstrap.

-What do you think?

-No. Definitely not.
-I'm gonna work on the boma.

I got to stay and work on the
shelter. I'm not gonna risk it.

Um... Kaila: Gary
found a dead nyala,

and I absolutely do not
want to eat that meat,

because I looked at it,
and it smells like death.

And right now my number-one
concern out here is shelter.

There's a lot of work to do before
we can think about eating something.

Gary: I'm in a race right
now against a leopard.

Me and a leopard are
fighting for that meat right now.

Yes, you are.

I mean, if you guys don't
want to eat it, I'll go eat it.

-Where's a pulaski?
-Over by your spear.

To pass up that nyala?
Assuming you're gonna get a kill?

My behavior is in
the realm of a real

"you're never going to eat
again" survival situation.

While there's food,
I need to eat it.

Exactly. I'm not gonna assume

the meat's gonna
be around tomorrow,

or even in an hour.

I spent the majority of
the challenge with no food.

14 days without eating,
again, is gonna do me in.

Absolutely.

We're racing against
a leopard right now.

Battling a leopard for the meat.

Gary: That's right.

Big animal.

And I can tell
it's a fresh kill.

You know, it has a smell, but...

It's not rancid.
That's for sure.

Sarah: There's that smell.

As soon as you
pushed on the abdomen,

I guess it released
some fumes from inside.

It's a dirty job, and
Gary's got to do it.

[ Growling ]

We got to get a roof.

Lindsey: Gary's
down getting his meat,

but he needs to
help build shelter.

There's leopards around,

so having a secure
boma is important.

And we need the ax.
There's a lot of stuff like this.

But until Gary gets back
with it, we can't chop it down.

Kaila: Man, we really need
that pulaski right now, don't we?

Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

We need that pulaski
to build shelter,

not to harvest meat.

[ Squishing ]

I almost feel like we

Sarah: In my regular life,

I would be far away
from this process.

But this is not my normal life.

I'm out in the bush of

slowly... To death.

We're gonna eat good.

that 200-mile territory.

smell that scavenged his kill

when he goes back there
later on tonight to eat.

We need this
shelter built tonight.

anywhere near our camp.

I'm gonna be honest...

when he has an idea.

and do what's best for survival.

That doesn't smell like death.

temperatures over 40 degrees,

the deadly bacteria
and parasites

found in raw meat
spread exponentially

and, if ingested, can cause
serious intestinal issues,

such as dysentery.

I'm hungry. And
this is survival.

We're not friends here.

But I hope that
they share the meat.

I have a pretty good stomach,

and I have pretty good
judgement of when meat is bad.

I grew up on the
poor side of town,

so I'm used to eating
weeks-old meat.

I mean, if it
doesn't smell rancid

and it doesn't have,
like, a gooey texture to it,

you're fine.

Just eat it.

Shelter. Survival.

Not being hunted by an
animal that we took its food from.

That disgusting,
rotting kill is a no-go.

I don't mind scavenging
a little bit from a leopard,

but he took the

immense amount of meat.

When are we gonna be
ready for it, you know?

Shane: Unfortunately,
I don't have the ability

to build a boma in three hours.

I know. We got to get Gary and
Sarah in on helping us build this.

Number-one priority
right now is shelter.

Listen. Melissa.

He's gonna do what he
wants to do, and that's it.

Trent: So it's up to us
to get this boma secure.

We'll probably
just have a bonfire

and sleeping around it tonight.

We're just gonna have
to keep our fire high.

Yeah. With what wood?
This is a [bleep] nightmare.

Definitely the most
dangerous location I've been at.

I am in the middle of
a nightmare in Africa.

Trent: Everyone's unified,
it always goes smoother.

But we got Gary and
Sarah cooking meat.

And we got Lacey
doing her own thing.

And then the rest of us
are working on the boma.

I badly need food.

The reward would be the ability
to continue with the challenge.

The risk would be

possibly debilitating
rancid-meat disease.

[ Sighs ] They put us in hell.

My biggest concern is
there's predators out here.

And bringing the entire
head into this area,

it's risky.

Please lord, don't
let our mistakes

get somebody hurt out here.

I've just been out here
solo, just goin' like hell.

Narrator: 24 days ago,
Matt entered the African bush

on a solo quest for redemption.

Since then, his
world-class hunting skills...

Matt: Whoo! Jungle
warrior just struck again.

...have allowed him to stockpile
a huge amount of protein.

Frickin' livin' like a
king in Africa right now.

Narrator: But the effects of
isolation began to take their toll.

When you're out here
long enough, you really get

to the point of lacking
some friendship.

Matt: I have been to
every one of your villages.

Really?

-Yeah.

Every time I got there,
you were moved out.

Took 24 days to
find my naked family.

I'll tell you what. I am very
happy I made the move.

I would've traveled 50
miles more to find them.

It's an epic day right now.

Sarah: You look like
you've been more successful

than all of us put together.

I'm on a 100% meat diet.

Gary: Matt seems like
a strong team member.

Even I respect Matt.

But I feel like we were
kind of kicking butt already.

Now we're gonna kick more butt.

We're cooking up a
bunch of steaks right now.

we're not eating.

Gary: I was the only
one here with meat,

the only one cooking
meat, for everybody.

And Matt's here,
and nobody cares.

The kill that Gary's
working on is from a leopard.

Matt: That leopard

Trent: We don't have
enough firewood for one night.

We just want to build, and we haven't
had a chance to really look around yet.

Trying to scramble
before the sun goes down.

I went from just
myself getting firewood

and everything else that I
had to do for the last 24 days

to voices everywhere,
commotion everywhere.

Woman: Gotta go left.

It's -- it's crazy.

What an all-meat diet

Lindsey: Matt Wright showed up.

And he brought with
him lots and lots of jerky.

It's like breathing
life into a dying group.

-Now, that's a hunter.
-Yeah.

Because Matt came along
and brought a whole bunch

of this nice dried meat,

I don't need any of Gary's meat.

Woman: That's the
biggest log I've ever seen.

Woman: I know.

We love Matt.

I just became useless.

Well, out here, the
only thing that matters

to anyone is kills and hunting.

In the social setting,
more than likely,

I have now just
become a cog in a wheel.

I showed up, and Lacey
has her own separate shelter.

I realized how hard
it is to do it solo.

You should be working
as smart as possible.

So one little shelter
for one person?

A lot of extra work, and
maybe you didn't have to do that.

Why did you build an apartment
all by yourself over there?

Everyone is fighting.

Everyone's just
yelling and freaking out.

And I can't deal

So I have my own boma

because I cannot stand
the whole social dynamic.

The sun is fading fast.

But Gary has a very
smelly section of meat

just sitting 70 meters
from the camp.

You know, there's concern.

We're in predator-rich
environment right here.

This is an area that
leopards would love.

[ Insects buzzing ]

Gary: Check it out. I'm
gonna cook this and eat it.

It's been here all day,
but it was bright, red,

and fresh when
I cut it off today.

Matt: There are some indications
you can see in its mouth.

And the head itself, because
it is so close to all that,

it's all the bacteria
of the mouth.

That's gonna go bad.

But, I mean, I've
got enough meat

that you guys
don't have to eat it.

It's getting to the
point of no return.

Yeah.

Gary: I did my
best today with this.

And I'm gonna drag it
over there on that bank...

Get it as far away as I
can tonight from our boma.

Lacey: All right. I
got my boma door,

and I'll bring this shut.

And then, uh, my meat.

Well-done is probably
the best way to go

when you're dealing
with scavenge.

Gary: This is the real tough
part of survival right here,

to where you program
your brain to zone in

and to love and like and
appreciate the smell of...

Survival is a state of mind.

If you won't eat maggots,
you're not willing to survive.

Woman: This is so
gross. Can you smell that?

Definitely smells like [bleep].

It smells like death.

Matt: In a survival
situation, if you are starving

and you might die
of starvation, eat it.

If you are not
dying of starvation,

it is actually a worse strategy,

because now you
could give yourself

a giant spectrum
of foodborne illness.

Nyala steak. Delicious.

Shane: Gary's first challenge,
he ate poisonous fruit.

Apparently he has
not learned his lesson.

Gary: Camu fruit.

They taste basically
like eating pine-sol.

That's tannic acid.

Ugh! [ Vomiting ]

Melissa: I am really worried
about Gary and Lacey,

and I really hope that that
does not make them sick.

I'm still not eating it.

Lacey: All right. My boma
is closed for the night.

The fire's going.

And I'm listening to
Matt over at the big boma,

and he's telling stories

of all of his amazing
hunts that he's been on.

Matt: I'm watching
them come in, come in.

It's very, very riveting.

Gary's meat made me sick.

I made a judgement call.

I wanted to see if I could

I've been eating it
non-stop, ravenously.

Every chance I can, I
just pick it up and eat it.

I feel good. I feel strong.

As a survivalist, I don't
pass up opportunities like this.

It's just not smart to me.

I'm not a whiner by any
means, but it's just adding up.

Everything's just adding up.

Part of survival is

It's just very indicative of the
way that she treated me here,

that she would not come
over and say goodbye to me.

It could have to
do with the fact

that I'm just eating only a ton
of meat right now in my system.

I'm just being smart and loading
up on as much food as I can.

delicious morsels.

hunkered in a corner,
going to the bathroom.

I think he wants to feel like
he's this badass survivalist,

but all I've seen him do
now is go to the bathroom.

Shane: I'm chopping
bamboo, trying to make that roof

as watertight as possible

so we can at least be
somewhat comfortable.

They're calling me gross.

And they're criticizing.
And they're judging.

that pot of smelly meat,

when they should look at that
pot of meat and they should go,

what a survival technique."

that leopard print.

That's a huge leopard.
Looks like I'm walking

the leopard's favorite
stomping grounds...

As I'm stealing his food.

We're working in
prime peak-sun hours.

We really need to get this done.

Shane: This is punishing work.

I'm not sure what
Gary's agenda is,

but rubbing it in all
of our faces every day

that eating some
meat that's days old,

just to make a point,
is kind of frustrating.

Personally, I think he
might be a little jealous,

because he thought he was
gonna be the savior of the team.

Hopefully he's done
with his little agenda

and we can move on in trying
to survive the next 12 days.

I noticed the corpse is
completely hollowed out now.

The marrow will last
longer than everything else

because it's
trapped in the bone.

I just now tapped into another
food source for my team.

All because I took
a little adventure

to go get this bone marrow.

A big part of me likes
being underappreciated.

It's my life. This is my life.

I'm underappreciated
in society all the time.

I must do it.

Gary's not just working
on the hide again, is he?

Gary's doing his own thing.
He's getting bone marrow.

I mean, it'd be helpful
if he was over here

working on the shelter with
us. We could really use the help.

He hasn't done anything
to help with the boma.

His, like, pride is getting
so much in the way that he...

He ate the meat,
[Bleep] Himself,

and has now surrounded
us with [bleep].

And surrounded us
with stinky-ass meat

that's probably brought
every leopard around

and every scavenger around.

Over and over, he
does whatever he wants,

thinks how he can twist it,

and says, "that
was for the team."

We're all doing our part
as a team [bleep] effort,

and without the team, none
of us are making it to 40,

regardless of
what our skill set is.

And he's not gonna
be better than any of us

if he's not helping any of us.

At this point, he's
sort of a lost cause.

Like, if he wants to
do his thing, that's fine.

We can do without.

If he's not part of the
team, that's his problem.
