All language subtitles for 65 - Intro to Develop Module

Now that you have a better understanding
of the library module,

we can explore the develop module.

The developed module allows us to perform

a variety of adjustments on our images.

We've already had a bit of exposure
to image adjustments

when we use the quick
developed panel in Lupu.

Well, the developed module includes

a much more comprehensive list
of image adjustment options.

Before we get started in the develop
module,

we'll need to select an image
that we'd like to perform adjustments to.

For the purpose of this lesson,
go ahead and select

this ancient Greek photo
from the thumbnail scroller.

Once you click on it, it'll launch
and loop you to get it into develop.

Just click develop over here.

We are now in the develop module
with our photos selected

in the preview area
on the left side of the developed module.

We have some items
that probably look familiar.

We have our navigator,
which we worked with in loop view.

We can scale our image up and down using
the aspect ratio options in our navigator.

We've been through that before.

For now, just go ahead and select fit.

You'll also notice
that we have our preset menu

available here,
so just go ahead and expand that.

Keep in mind that if you don't have any of
these panels available here,

you're going to

right click on any one of the panel
headings and place a checkmark

next to each one of these items
will be working with all of them.

So if you recall, the preset menu
consists of various adjustments

we can perform at the click of a button
just as a side note.

The first few preset headings
we see here are all relevant

to black and white presets.

Sometimes when you take a photograph,

the colors in the photo
may give it a somewhat boring look.

A great way to spice up
the image is to add a black

and white preset
to give it a much more dramatic look.

This works especially
well if you photographed a scene

which already has an older or an ancient
look to it.

We'll be applying a black and white filter
to this image.

But before we do, we can easily preview
what the filter will look like

by hovering our mouse over each one.

Pay attention to the navigator

as you hover your mouse over each filter.

Since we'll go over

most of these filters for now,
just click the blue filter to begin with.

So clearly the image is turned
into a grayscale image.

But take a look at the histogram so
we can see exactly what this filter did.

Since our image is now grayscale,
so is our histogram.

There are no longer
any additional colors present

and just if you want to see the before
and after, I'll just undo that.

So this is the histogram before

and you can see the different colors
in the histogram

and I'll click back onto the blue filter
and now it's completely grayscale.

Another way of removing a filter
you've applied or any adjustment for that

matter is to click the reset button
and that takes you right back

to your original shot.

With the blue filter
applied, we can see that our mid tones

have shifted over
to the right in the histogram.

So this tells us that we've emphasized
the highlights in this photo

to give it a much more dramatic
look against the darker set of colors.

Now click on the blue high contrast
filter.

Here are mid
tones have shifted over to the left.

So this is the before
and this is the after.

You can see a complete shift
of mid tones over to the left.

This means that our mid range of colors
have become much darker

and we can clearly see that
that that is the case

just by looking at the stone pillars.

Now we'll go ahead and select
the green filter.

So again, just before I click on it,
take a look at the histogram.

So this filter

has removed quite a bit of our black
and darker

shade of colors and shifted
the mid tones predominantly to the right.

And we can see that it's removed

the shadow detail
almost completely in the stonework.

So the image does look a lot flatter
because we don't have those contrast

in the tones anymore.

Now let's
go ahead and click on the infrared filter.

I'm just going to click on the reset
button first

before I click on that filter.

Sometimes
what Lightroom does is it preserves

some of the data from the previous filter
you've applied

and you'll see a little bit
more of that later on.

But I don't think that was the case.

In this particular example
with the infrared filter,

the histogram has moved
almost entirely to the right,

so that tells us right away that a lot of
our shadow detail is going to be gone.

And you can see that
that is the case because most of the

the dark colors that have been preserved
are almost absolute black.

So we've lost our shadow detail.

But the blacks are you can see

the blacks are still visible in the image
and in the histogram.

Now you can go through
the additional presets here

though, we're not going to go through
each one of them,

but as long as you know how to interpret
the histogram, you'll know exactly

what's going on in the image.
